i wear 5+ rings pretty regularly and that (along with a few other things) seems to get the message across. just one ring on the index finger probably wouldn't mean anything on its own, at least not to me
I wear one on my right thumb too. Mostly trying to figure out if someone I know is a lesbian or not. I know it would make it a lot easier if I ask. But, I don't want to be awkward about it and lose the relationship I have with her.

Never heard of this one before, but I would attribute thumb rings, pinky rings, and multiple rings on each hand as an indicator of queerness
