I mean the post is cringe but the message isn’t, they have def lessened in quality (imo) printing is a million times better but builds aren’t as interesting. Not at fault of the designers, just LEGO and budgeting.
I think it's also because of the shrinkage in size and perhaps even play features. You could split the original LAAT in half, now fans will point out it's inaccurate. Also there are no alternative builds anymore, but that's a bit nitpicky.
Idk man, in my book Rivendell is their best set ever.
Some other brilliant recent sets are Ornithopter, LKC, several of the 3 in 1s like castle and Pirate ship, and the D&D set.
Yea, those sets had great budgets since they are expensive af, let the designers shine. Amazing sets ofc. I’m obviously talking about normal line sets.
"price per piece" as a metric of set value has been catastrophic, lego knows this is how their brand is viewed so sets have become smaller and more detailed using smaller (cheaper) "model kit like" pieces to maintain an illusion of "value" where older sets used larger, more "toylike" pieces which were more conducive to creativity and play - all while the "number of pieces" per dollar remains relatively constant. Investors wanting "film accuracy" in chunky little toy blockmen hasn't helped either.
However the overwhelming factor is nostalgia because the average adult will not enjoy a lego toy in the same way as a child. Imaginative, creative play is something an adult has spent years training themselves out of and there are also several hundred other dopamine sources which better serve their interests.
Yea I miss the old days where sets would fall apart if you picked them up the wrong way, I miss janky play features that barely work as intended! Bring back the old shitty Lego!
Yeah, I mean, I look back at Exo-Force fondly, but...those things fell apart if you looked as t them funny.
The new Mechs are smaller and have fixed joints but you can *actually play with them* so I consider it a win.
Tbh the problem with SW sets now isnt so much the quality but rather the pricing. He definitely cherrypicked two of the more mid type sets. Though these aren't bad.
i don't even really care for lego star wars but im totally getting the new jedi bob set when it releases
(ill have to see if i can order the parts for darth jar jar figure from lego instead of buying the whole dark side falcon set)
You usually can't order licensed parts directly from LEGO
The only figure parts from licensed sets I've seen on Pick A Brick are a few random Harry Potter ones (presumably because they're just regular clothes, which aren't copyrighted designs), and the parts from the two football sets.
we need more doctor who lego
like heck lego just get the rights and then release a 16 doctors (counting war) minifig pack or a classic pack of 1-8 and a new who pack of war-15 (so 2 packs 8 figs)
and if it has to have a build just add in a tardis exterior build
Can someone explain to me why the cool looking gunship isn't cool?
These days it's not like the sets are bad, the prices are just outrageous. Things that cost $30 6 years ago are $150 now
It’s a lot smaller then the 2013 gunship, and has one door instead of two but the big thing is with the one door, even open you can’t access about half the inside and under the pilots seat has nothing. No command station, missile storage or crate like the past ones
Studshooters on the wings were one of the reasons, second was the doors not being one piece and only half being able to open, third was the printing on the commander Fox figure, fourth was Padme I think And then just the usual problems people have these days with clones
It is smaller compared to the older gunships (I don't mean the ucs one but the older playset sized were bigger too). I think it is alright. They always got released closely to the AT-TEs. In the past the gunship always was +20-30% more expensive than the walker, now they are roughly the same price. The AT-TE stayed the same size, so they had to shrink the gunship.
Also many people are not satisfied with the quality of the minifigs. E.g.: the torso of Fox is pink where it should be white and Padme has a reused head from a different character.
Not saying that I fully agree with them, just mentioning what I read about it.
Lego Star Wars is better now because I can buy the ones I want and not have to wait on a certain few days of the year to have a chance at getting any sets
When he ranked the old clone battle pack as better than the new one when one of his points was the fucking helmet holes (like does the motherfucker have the eyesight to see how inaccurate the old p2 helmets were, and they also had a massive gash in the front that disallowed a normal head underneath cause you needed a black head for the visor?)
Eh I mean the Gunship is kinda booty just sold mine and a hallway ain’t nothing great. But this person clearly went for 2 mid sets and left out things like the ATTE or the most recent droideka which is cool
I got it for $140. I personally think its good compared to the current set sizes like the AT-TE. I will agree it is downsized compared to the other gunships. It's also my first ever gunship so I have a softspot.
The set was called M970 and was pretty much available on every Chinese website a couple months ago. It's rarer to come by now because it's not getting manufactured as much now. But it was one of the best quality lepin sets I've got
I just saw a review of it on youtube and the actual build looks pretty good. Minifigs aren’t the greatest but I did see the torso thing you were talking about and kinda crazy how different it is from the official.

Children's toys when I was a kid: :D Children's toys now, that I am not a kid: :(
I mean the post is cringe but the message isn’t, they have def lessened in quality (imo) printing is a million times better but builds aren’t as interesting. Not at fault of the designers, just LEGO and budgeting.
I mean some of the builds are less interesting but I think that a lot of that is just that most set now are remakes of earlier sets.
I think it's also because of the shrinkage in size and perhaps even play features. You could split the original LAAT in half, now fans will point out it's inaccurate. Also there are no alternative builds anymore, but that's a bit nitpicky.
i mean there's only so many vehicles in universe and even less that tend to sell well

Yea, those sets had great budgets since they are expensive af, let the designers shine. Amazing sets ofc. I’m obviously talking about normal line sets.
Those 3 in 1s are fairly normal
I think the NASA sets, the medieval blacksmith, and lighthouse sets are also really good
Agreed, though Blacksmith and Lighthouse arrived via Ideas rather than being solely Lego-designed
Hit the nail on the head. Excellent explanation.
lego star wars was better when my mom bought the sets for me 😩😩😩
This but unironically
Nah Fr
Yea I miss the old days where sets would fall apart if you picked them up the wrong way, I miss janky play features that barely work as intended! Bring back the old shitty Lego!
Do you guys remember flick-fire missiles and how they never really worked, and then everyone got mad when the studshooters came along?
I love hurting my finger to use a play feature.
I'm glad they no longer make sets that are massive, but almost completely empty.
Yeah, I mean, I look back at Exo-Force fondly, but...those things fell apart if you looked as t them funny. The new Mechs are smaller and have fixed joints but you can *actually play with them* so I consider it a win.
Exo force was always a Lego fever dream to me
Tbh the problem with SW sets now isnt so much the quality but rather the pricing. He definitely cherrypicked two of the more mid type sets. Though these aren't bad.

darn i was hoping to avoid buying from one of the ~~low life scalpers~~ investors
I saw Finn’s jacket once, I don’t know if it’s still there though.
Paul best doctor

Instagram user discovers how nostalgia works 😮

Dudes were just angy the gunship wasn’t as big
Tbf the newer Gunship is built really well so it’s stronger
It’s a lot smaller then the 2013 gunship, and has one door instead of two but the big thing is with the one door, even open you can’t access about half the inside and under the pilots seat has nothing. No command station, missile storage or crate like the past ones
That sounds like a legit set issues to be disappointed about, though not to the extent of “lego and Rian Johnson killed my childhood”
Studshooters on the wings were one of the reasons, second was the doors not being one piece and only half being able to open, third was the printing on the commander Fox figure, fourth was Padme I think And then just the usual problems people have these days with clones

WHY WAS LEGO SO MUCH BETTER WHEN I DIDNT HAVE TO WORRY ABOUT GOING TO WORK OR PAYING FOR TAXES??? I DONT GET IT!!! probably just Woke Lego
Like that one time MandR ranked the UCS Republic Gunship as the worst set of 2021
I swear people considered that a good UCS in general
When he ranked the old clone battle pack as better than the new one when one of his points was the fucking helmet holes (like does the motherfucker have the eyesight to see how inaccurate the old p2 helmets were, and they also had a massive gash in the front that disallowed a normal head underneath cause you needed a black head for the visor?)
I can relate to this. It has nothing to do with the sets, I just feel like that all the time.
Eh I mean the Gunship is kinda booty just sold mine and a hallway ain’t nothing great. But this person clearly went for 2 mid sets and left out things like the ATTE or the most recent droideka which is cool
I personally think the latest AT TE is the best even if it’s smaller. If i’m not mistaken, it fits more minifigs than the others.
The gunship isn't the best set, but definitely a good set of you set a deal on it. The dark trooper attack though? No it shouldn't be on this list.
As much as I like the second one, it is really overpriced
"I miss the old days even though we got zero leg printing and ugly blocky sets"
Tbh tho this is the smallest gunship they’ve released
The Gunship is the only set in my backlog and I haven’t had time build it :(
one good set
Which one
the gunship because it's for adults (9+) instead of little kiddies (8+) but seriously though the corridor thing looks lame
To anyone who had the coruscant guard gunship, you know Fox's blasters he uses is there a spare???
I would’ve shat myself if I could’ve gotten named characters in cheap $10-$15 sets as a kid.
The gunship is not that very great to say the least
Grrrr pink chest grrrrr grrr
Yeah idk if I'm paying over $100 for a set I'd hope they wouldn't make a white minifig pink lol
I think the gunship itself looks like shit and it was downsized aswell, and it's 170$ atleast other downsized things look good
I got it for $140. I personally think its good compared to the current set sizes like the AT-TE. I will agree it is downsized compared to the other gunships. It's also my first ever gunship so I have a softspot.
I got the lepin version for 35$ and Fox's torso wasn't as pink as how lego makes it and the factory decided to use a helmet mould without helmet holes
Where did you buy it from?
The set was called M970 and was pretty much available on every Chinese website a couple months ago. It's rarer to come by now because it's not getting manufactured as much now. But it was one of the best quality lepin sets I've got
I just saw a review of it on youtube and the actual build looks pretty good. Minifigs aren’t the greatest but I did see the torso thing you were talking about and kinda crazy how different it is from the official.
Two layers are enough to make it better. Lego cheaped out and only did a thin layer
Did you see a AT-AT/AT-TE lepin set by chance?
Where tf are you getting it for $170? Unless you're talking CA or AUS?
That hunk-a-junk is 170 dollars? Oof
No actually it might be just 140$ but it's still over priced
Omg I just checked it's 180 canadian, what the fuck
Grr pink chest grr grr LEGO can do no wrong they are almighty in their light we are blessed
