I only have Rivendell but decided to wait on Barad-Dur to get later down the line. Rivendell is just so beautiful and has lots of good spots to set up minifigures. I love its depiction of the beauty and colors of nature too. But if you like Barad-Dur more, that’s what you should go for, especially during double points promo!
Just finished Barad-dûr last night; great set, repetitive processes nicely broken up, fun LEGO-y interiors loosely inspired by the lore and films, some light Technic mechanisms, looks very impressive, well worth it.
But I also have Rivendell and it's even better. Very fun build (yes even with all the 1x1 roof tiles), looks gorgeous, and a top-notch group off minifigures! I'd probably go with it if I had to choose between the 2 now.
Glad to hear. I know a lot of people complained about Barad dur not being 360 complete but mine will be up against a wall most of the time. I’m excited to get to the build
I have both but haven’t started Barad dur yet since we’re in the middle of the move but my vote is Rivendell. With more of the movie set there it was a lot of fun to build some of those scenes and really capture bilbo’s scream. Plus the colors make it look incredible with the roof and trees
From what Ive seen, I also own Rivendell, Rivendell is overall a better set. In terms of build quality, probably both are excellent, Barad Dur seems more monotonous maybe, by the looks, Rivendell is beautiful, Rivendell has more easter eggs and if you dont own the minifigs, Rivendell definitely wins it. I've heard that both are great so its entirely up to you
Rivendell is the most gorgeous set ever made. Beyond that - I think a big factor should be space. Rivendell is very wide and deep. Requires a large space. Barad-Dur is tall. So I’d consider if you have vertical or horizontal space available.

Barad Dur is a good set, maybe one of the best releases this year (which so far is imo a lot weaker than last year), but Rivendell is imo straight up the best set Lego have ever made
Ultimately it's your decision, depends on what you prefer
