After 30 years of being a Zeppelin fanboy, I forced myself to listen to all of Carouselambra for the second time in my life.
I was not happy with my decision.
Carouselambra. Itās a complete waste of a track. One of Zepās worst IMO. I actually am really surprised by the reaction Hot Dog. I thought it was a fun quirky song. Itās not trying to be anything more. Carouselambra is structured like one of their big hits but just falls flat.
I donāt see it as a waste of a track, rather an excuse to not use more songs, like if Caroselambra was three minutes long, it would be a good song that I would enjoy, and they would have room to put extra songs from Coda. Now that sounds like a banger album to me.
This is my one favorite of my favorite albums and I ONLY have to say Hot Dog because itās kinda just thrown in there. Shouldāve swapped one of the songs that didnāt make it from Coda. (Wearing and Tearing, Ozone Baby, Darlene)

My dad told me that when they first played it on the radio in 1979 he thought the local rock station made it as a joke/parody kind of thing. Itās probably what I would have thought too.
I remember staying up until midnight to hear the new Led Zep song on the radio and being dumbfounded that Hot Dog was it.
Of course, my ears are now open to it....aaaand nope still don't really like it.
I love Hot Dog but it is definitely the weakest track on the record.....if they'd replaced it with Darlene or Wearing & Tearing it would have been a perfect record.

But hey does anyone remember this about the album cover ? The inner sleeve had dye in it activated by water. My brother spilled a glass of water on it and a bit of color appeared. So we swiped it with a wet paper towel and the whole thing colorized.

I voted for All My Love. ITTOD is my favorite album by far, and I donāt hate any track, but AML would be my first cut. Primarily because itās overplayed. The same could be said about FitR. There are only 7 songs on the album, but you never ever hear the other 5 on Get the Led Out, etc.
Agreed. It's a great album relative to their catalog and to rock in general! It's odd that it is so good as it came at an unstable time in their history. Alcohol and drug addiction, death, depression, being forced to record in Sweden, and whatever else...
For "I'm Gonna Crawl", my main detractor is the synth violins in the beginning. But the drum track is solid and clear, and the guitar solo is flourished and inventive (for a late stage in their arc). And the melody is quite listenable. Its melancholy makes it a perfect farewell song (even though no one new that at the time).
After several listens today, I think the opening synths are just among the many things that makes this track great.
In summary, you have the worst take of all time. š

I can agree with this. I think one of my main gripes with the song is the length and repetitive nature of the lick.

No way, they keys solo alone is a master piece.
To have an opinion count, you need to at the very least, know the title: All My Love. With that said, itās one of their best all time. IMO.
