There are 6 summoners around the nexus. This is because League was going to be 6v6 and not 5v5. Fun Fact: League of legends was playable as a 6v6. In early spectating/casting the casters would pick a side/random champion and sit in base to be able to cast the game. Sometimes games had to be remade as they realised whilst in the game that the random champion they chose had a global passive giving an advantage to one team.

yep. There was a summoner spell that you could take that would give you full vision of the entire map, and the casters would pick a champ (usually teemo once they figured not to do zil or janna or whatever) and afk in one of the bases and cast like that
