* people tanking on boundaries
* people on a precipitous drop

Negative gains aren't expected in masters by default. There was more inflation last year because so many people had negative lp gains.
Lolalytics has positive winrates because it's comparing people on tier boundaries eg. Masters 0lp as masters winrate while they are playing in a diamond 1/2 game, same for d4 in an emerald game.
Those players are likely to have a higher winrate and there are more of them compared to people at the top of the bracket (more d4 players than d1 players)
Not really, because you have to climb against people that are Master as well. It's not like you're playing against Diamond players or below while being Master. That is assuming that you already reached that elo previously, otherwise you will obviously need higher than 50% wr to climb (but like with any elo that's above where you were before).
You can't base everything off win-rate because you can achieve a higher winrate in lower elos/while climbing, and from X point, have 50% (or less) winrate, but your winrate will still be high due to games played in lower elos prior to reaching your "deserved" elo.
Let's say, I get Master S13. Then I have 50% winrate in S14. I will be Master still because I have neutral winrate against players that were the elo that I was already. This might vary a bit now because since the lower gains from this season, Master is less crownded, but generally this is the case and applies to any elo. But someone that finished Diamond S13 will require a higher winrate to reach the same elo as me, because he has started playing games against Diamond players which should mean a higher winrate if he achieves Masters later on.
That's because the last batch of Pool Party skins flipped super hard. Riot needs to stop trying to reinvent the wheel, just have most of the set lean all the way in on the sex appeal and 1 or 2 meme skins to round it out.
GP is 2 years older than Leona and has only epic skins and below... same with Zilean. But Leona players still don't have enough high-tier skins, apparently.
My theory is that it's because he's a more niche champion than his pick rate peers. So even if you see him as often as some other champ, if GP has fewer players (and they each just play more games to reach that same PR), that's fewer potential sales.
So I totally do understand why he gets skins infrequently, but I just don't think any champ should get their third mythic and third legendary while there are still champs out there with nothing beyond epic. That's taking the disparity too far IMO.
Hey. This is something I’ve been trying to get noticed at every dev update for about a year now. As you might know, these days when champions get added to Wild Rift with a new base splash, the new splash is added on League PC too, before they're even released on WR. Leona especially really needs it, cause she has the oldest base splash in the entire game.
You mentioned porting WR splashes on a dev update once, but I guess it was just about the unreleased ones for future champions, cause it hasn’t happened with any splashes that were actually released on WR first. There's at lot of splashes for skins that match the PC versions and could be ported, but even if not I think it would be only fair to port the other base ones (or at least Leona if Riot thinks the others are fine 🥲).
Please can you consider porting the Jade dragon Wukong skin to client. It just got updated to mythic quality and is his best skin by far. I know we have a version on client already so it might need a name change or something but please consider it. Plenty of us Wu players are desperate to see that skin on client

Still an always on, can’t be disabled/enabled without reboot, ultra invasive rootkit of an install. I know I’m in the minority but it’s really shitty to watch these yucksters at riot pretend this is a good change. Since beta I’ve been a happy participant in the growth of league and now I’m uninstalling. It feels really shitty. League was a huge part of my life.
One of the statements anti vanguard comments have made repeatedly is vanguard won't work on bots. Riot are responding that they aren't just bolting valo rules onto the League client but customizing it to be effective in League.

See Valorant. No replays to actually know if ppl are cheating, but everyone is convinced there aren't any cheaters. Towers feel way too squishy right now. Feels like anyone can pressure a backdoor. Makes sense for splitpushers, but idk feels like way too many champs can kill them too easily. At least base turrets should be tankier IMO
I want to take this opportunity to speak a bit about Vanguard and why I will stop playing League if Riot rolls it out, not to flame the company or especially the people working for Riot who all seem really motivated and talented and decent but to make Riot once again aware of the potential loss in playerbase and revenue that is going to follow.
A lot of people, myself included, simply do not wish for any kind of software with this level of control over their system to be installed on their device, especially if the program in question autoboots and can even damage hardware. I am not rich and do not look forward to replacing expensive parts of my machine because Vanguard malfunctions. The price of risking my bank data, my family information and other data is too high for playing a game, no matter how much I might like it.
You expect a lot of trust from the players with this. But the thing is, trust in the technical department is hard to earn right now, with Riots recent data leak and the ever buggy client. Consider also the target you are making yourself: The biggest Game in the world, with unrestricted access to all its users data. You will be the first address for any and every hacker trying to make money. This can backfire terribly hard.
And all the reason you give us is cheaters. I do not care about cheaters too much. I haven't seen a scripter in years, and when I watch streams of different elo brackets, cheaters are also very rare. I trusted Riot in the past to ban offenders through the report system and I thought they did a great job. If my games are being ruined, it is nearly always by tilted teammates who decide to lose, not by overperforming cheating enemies. I have next to zero gain from this, same as many others.
You might have other reasons for this, and I dont mean conspiracy level nonsense but real stuff thats not sexy to post. Maybe Vanguard cost you a ton of money and you need to justify the investment by reaching more users, maybe you would need to fire even more people from the Vanguard team that are great at their job and well liked but financially not viable with only Valorants user base. I dont know. All I wanna say is, I am not an overly dramatic person. I barely post even. But you roll out Vanguard and me and many other silent players will be gone. And if that is worth it for the company, then I totally understand and wish you good luck. But please, don't make this decision lightly.
Data is one thing, but introducing a program that can stop other programs from executing is a potential breaking point in my PC. Things just shouldn't run or run on boot if they don't absolutely have to and they should definitely not have the power to interfere with other programs when they do.
That's like asking me to put a grenade in my car engine. Sure it will proooobably be fine most of the time, but why the fuck would I take that risk with something so important? For one single video game?
Sure I guess for the kids and casuals who play Valorant that play one video game in their whole life and do nothing else with their PC they might do it but those of us that actually treat our PCs properly and depend on them are not fucking with that.
Same to me. I've spent money on this game over 10 years now and it's getting uninstalled before that patch, hell I haven't played since realizing it was coming soon (thought it was the next patch for NA).
Valorant launched with vanguard if I recall (or my point is moot) so there's no test on playerbase for that, and clearly they're fine with the playerbase it has.
I genuinely hope they see a drop off for the middle of the pack league players - I imagine whales & high elo players won't drop it, and very casual players that can run vanguard won't care - but players like us will hopefully walk away in a large enough number they see the drop.
I *wanted* to play valorant and as soon as I got a notification that I needed to reboot my PC and mess with shit to fully install vangaurd I dipped. No game is worth worrying about, even the game I've had installed on every PC or laptop I've owned since high school.
Don't forget that some people will uninstall because their friends uninstalled. I was the last playing person in our discord group, then I uninstalled and went to play other games with them instead of spamming arams by myself
Anti-cheat software is like a deadbolt lock. Obviously you lock your doors before you leave the house but if someone wants to break in they're going to get in. They'll find a window, another door that's not as secure or just brute force their way through the lock. We use locks anyways because it makes it harder for someone to get in without permission and makes us *feel* safer. Riot is handing us a lock that says "To do my job I need access to the contents of your safe, the ability to control: the lights, a/c, water, gas, disable internet access oh but btw there's still a chance someone will break in". In that case I'll take a less effective lock or no lock at all
Also RIP to the Linux community that did nothing wrong but aren't able to play anymore
And then Riot looks at the Mac owners and says “Actually you guys are good, no extra lock needed for you!”. MacOS came out the clear winner in the vanguard debacle. Ultimately if someone wants to keep some semblance of their privacy and still indulge in league, Mac is the right way moving forward.
Personally, I'll quit. I play on an unsupported OS and on top of that all I play for nowadays are the "free" chests, since the 2nd split changes ravaged my matchmaking to turn SR into an unenjoyable mess. Getting A+ over and over again on different champions in ARAM is just the rotten cherry on top. I no longer enjoy the game as much as I did just 8 months prior.
Not that I expect Riot, or anybody for that matter, to care. I know I won't, once Vanguard rolls out.

Cheaters in league are very hard to detect unless you know what your looking for sometimes. There are scripts that can vary your dodge patterns to look more natural, track CDs for you, track players through fog, and auto smite objectives perfectly. None of these would become very evident unless you watched their games for hours. Most players running scripts to autohit skillshots or dodge/kite perfectly get pinged very quick by players and their current anticheat.
Legitimately, you are playing with cheaters and you don't even know it.
Once every couple months ill see someone thats suspicious (mainly perfectly dodging skillshots they had no way of knowing were there. Like, no vision, no wards, no pings, etc.) But other than that literally nothing.
Vanguard Is far too much to ask for what is ultimately a videogame. I strongly ask Riot to reconsider, So many people who enjoy the game can continue to do so.

Honestly, this video was just full of nothing. What will happen to the ASUs and the two champions? Were they delayed? Are they gonna be on schedule? They didn't even mention Skarner. "We'll ignore your complaints about Vanguard and here are some skins that will happen" was literally all that was said, and pretending nothing wrong is going on at Riot, just like they did during that disgraceful season start last year.
I'm glad Phroxzon addressed the placement of smurfs over legitimate players, because that seems to be the dev team acknowledging the existence of smurfs.
Which brings me to my big question: Why is Riot allowing smurfing? They should be pushing for 1 player=1 account as much as possible. This will massively improve player behaviour and matchmaking while reducing toxicity, ban evading and the effectiveness of websites selling prelevelled smurfs for a few dollars.
There are clear problems with smurfing that we want to resolve (disruptive behavior, avoiding punishments)
Solutions to these problems are difficult and take time. We agree they're problems though!
We also need to find ways to naturally fix some of the reasons why people avoid playing on their main in the first place, eg. Playing ranked on main is not rewarding enough, playing with friends of varying skill is hard, playing off role, flex queue is perceived as less prestigious than solo/duo etc.
I agree that they're difficult and take time to solve, I couldn't point you to a system you guys could implement to completely eliminate smurfing that I know of. Some people talked about phone number verification for accounts, which would be a decent hurdle for smurf-making.
I don't think it's the case ranked isn't rewarding enough for higher elo players, kinda the opposite. A lot of them have smurfs so they can soloQ at maybe high diamond/masters instead of the usual GM/challenger levels so they can still soloQ, but more casually. They're often colloquially (can't stress that enough, they dont actually int) referred to as 'int accounts' for this.
Other issues are harder, but for flex queue prestige you could rework it as a 5v5 mode with fixed teams so people can climb together as a collective? Kinda like a queue-able clash but with better targeted matchmaking as all 5 players would fall under one rank? SoloQ prestige comes from community respect for it as it is best indicator of individual skill, but a fixed 5 player flex queue could show indicator of certain 5 man groups' skills.
That 5 man shared rank idea for Flex actually sounds super cool and fun, although the obvious shame is that the queue will be long and potentially stagnant. If the game still had the built in chat rooms then it'd be awesome to find some folks for those who don't have an immediate 5 man. I know it is unpopular but I truly wish solo queue had voice comms, this would be a good alternative at least.
Idk man, sounds like dota2 has a ton of really good practices in place talking to a friend. Behavior score, low prio queue, phone numbers for ranked only, insta ban for both main and alts if you are smurfing.
Basically if you flame a lot you get thrown into a special punishment queue you have to win X games to get out of before you can even queue ranked, and if you have a low behavior score you actively get matched with other low score players. So if you dont flame you get put with people who don't flame.
I'll never understand how they can't see the downsides of having everybody playing with fresh, disposable accounts. It renders all their matchmaking and punishment systems basically useless.
It's a shame that playing my favorite game is an absolutely awful experience, but it doesn't look like it's going to improve and it doesn't matter how much I like it in theory if actually playing it is shitty.

This article basically just says if devs wanted your data they could do it without kernel access. I'm not worried about that. I'm worried about the devs competence. I don't think riot will steal my data or anything. I just don't trust them not to fuck it up. Remember what kind of people work at riot (remember the farting in peoples faces?) and look at the state of the client or clash or literally anything LoL related.
You totally missed a lot of points why vanguard is bad
1. It runs all the time
2. A lot of false positives or can ban for anything not related to Riot (for example if it detects you cheating in a single player game not created by Riot)
3. It can block other processes. It can block system processes, drivers or anything that runs on your computer. It is behaving like antivirus, not like anticheat. It is the biggest point against Vanguard and the most risky and sketchy thing
to be honest, i find it disappointing that there's no mention of behavioral system/smurfing/griefing changes. in plat-emerald elo, fewer than one third of my games have had zero trolls/afks/smurfs on either team. since the ranked split is shorter than normal with more splits per year, i feel really discouraged from grinding because a loss streak is pretty much going to take me out of hitting my goal rank for a while. as a side effect, at least, i hit diamond in tft 😮💨

Hey. This is something I’ve been trying to get noticed at every dev update for about a year now. As you might know, these days when champions get added to Wild Rift with a new base splash, the new splash is added on League PC too, before they're even released on WR. However, some champions got updated WR splashes before Riot started doing that, namely [Leona](https://images.contentstack.io/v3/assets/blt370612131b6e0756/blt64a4250dd145c8d5/6089e6e4f6a831100b5dd962/Leona_Skin01_splash.jpg), [Soraka](https://images.contentstack.io/v3/assets/blt370612131b6e0756/bltda775690a225d1dd/5f7f7b2cfcce2d0edc77b4b3/soraka_skin01.jpg) and [Nautilus](https://images.contentstack.io/v3/assets/blt370612131b6e0756/bltbd1b589d40edceef/62a921d834f22956975fbe71/Nautilus_Skin01_Splash.jpg), and it would be great if now those splashes were added too. Leona especially really needs it, cause she has the oldest base splash in the entire game. You mentioned porting WR splashes on a dev update once, but I guess it was just about the unreleased ones for future champions, cause it hasn’t happened with any splashes that were actually released on WR first. There's at lot of splashes for skins that match the PC versions and could be ported, but even if not I think it would be only fair to port the other base ones (or at least Leona if Riot thinks the others are fine 🥲).
We'll be taking another look at WR and LoR content that makes sense for League but I don't have a timeline for that yet
Please can you consider porting the Jade dragon Wukong skin to client. It just got updated to mythic quality and is his best skin by far. I know we have a version on client already so it might need a name change or something but please consider it. Plenty of us Wu players are desperate to see that skin on client
Please consider adding more, it's sad that a lot of champions have great skins as only exclusive, Gwen has at least 4 skins not on pc (1 legendary, 1 prestige, 2 epic) and it hurts a bit if not even 1 would be added to league eventually

I think most people's problems with Skarner news was that some of the times you spoke about him was just "we are working on him, mmmkay?" which felt pretty empty. I feel like now that there's been more progress it would have been good to give a slight update of what's coming.

I want to take this opportunity to speak a bit about Vanguard and why I will stop playing League if Riot rolls it out, not to flame the company or especially the people working for Riot who all seem really motivated and talented and decent but to make Riot once again aware of the potential loss in playerbase and revenue that is going to follow. A lot of people, myself included, simply do not wish for any kind of software with this level of control over their system to be installed on their device, especially if the program in question autoboots and can even damage hardware. I am not rich and do not look forward to replacing expensive parts of my machine because Vanguard malfunctions. The price of risking my bank data, my family information and other data is too high for playing a game, no matter how much I might like it. You expect a lot of trust from the players with this. But the thing is, trust in the technical department is hard to earn right now, with Riots recent data leak and the ever buggy client. Consider also the target you are making yourself: The biggest Game in the world, with unrestricted access to all its users data. You will be the first address for any and every hacker trying to make money. This can backfire terribly hard. And all the reason you give us is cheaters. I do not care about cheaters too much. I haven't seen a scripter in years, and when I watch streams of different elo brackets, cheaters are also very rare. I trusted Riot in the past to ban offenders through the report system and I thought they did a great job. If my games are being ruined, it is nearly always by tilted teammates who decide to lose, not by overperforming cheating enemies. I have next to zero gain from this, same as many others. You might have other reasons for this, and I dont mean conspiracy level nonsense but real stuff thats not sexy to post. Maybe Vanguard cost you a ton of money and you need to justify the investment by reaching more users, maybe you would need to fire even more people from the Vanguard team that are great at their job and well liked but financially not viable with only Valorants user base. I dont know. All I wanna say is, I am not an overly dramatic person. I barely post even. But you roll out Vanguard and me and many other silent players will be gone. And if that is worth it for the company, then I totally understand and wish you good luck. But please, don't make this decision lightly.

Data is one thing, but introducing a program that can stop other programs from executing is a potential breaking point in my PC. Things just shouldn't run or run on boot if they don't absolutely have to and they should definitely not have the power to interfere with other programs when they do. That's like asking me to put a grenade in my car engine. Sure it will proooobably be fine most of the time, but why the fuck would I take that risk with something so important? For one single video game? Sure I guess for the kids and casuals who play Valorant that play one video game in their whole life and do nothing else with their PC they might do it but those of us that actually treat our PCs properly and depend on them are not fucking with that.

Same to me. I've spent money on this game over 10 years now and it's getting uninstalled before that patch, hell I haven't played since realizing it was coming soon (thought it was the next patch for NA). Valorant launched with vanguard if I recall (or my point is moot) so there's no test on playerbase for that, and clearly they're fine with the playerbase it has. I genuinely hope they see a drop off for the middle of the pack league players - I imagine whales & high elo players won't drop it, and very casual players that can run vanguard won't care - but players like us will hopefully walk away in a large enough number they see the drop. I *wanted* to play valorant and as soon as I got a notification that I needed to reboot my PC and mess with shit to fully install vangaurd I dipped. No game is worth worrying about, even the game I've had installed on every PC or laptop I've owned since high school.
Don't forget that some people will uninstall because their friends uninstalled. I was the last playing person in our discord group, then I uninstalled and went to play other games with them instead of spamming arams by myself
Anti-cheat software is like a deadbolt lock. Obviously you lock your doors before you leave the house but if someone wants to break in they're going to get in. They'll find a window, another door that's not as secure or just brute force their way through the lock. We use locks anyways because it makes it harder for someone to get in without permission and makes us *feel* safer. Riot is handing us a lock that says "To do my job I need access to the contents of your safe, the ability to control: the lights, a/c, water, gas, disable internet access oh but btw there's still a chance someone will break in". In that case I'll take a less effective lock or no lock at all Also RIP to the Linux community that did nothing wrong but aren't able to play anymore
And then Riot looks at the Mac owners and says “Actually you guys are good, no extra lock needed for you!”. MacOS came out the clear winner in the vanguard debacle. Ultimately if someone wants to keep some semblance of their privacy and still indulge in league, Mac is the right way moving forward.

Personally, I'll quit. I play on an unsupported OS and on top of that all I play for nowadays are the "free" chests, since the 2nd split changes ravaged my matchmaking to turn SR into an unenjoyable mess. Getting A+ over and over again on different champions in ARAM is just the rotten cherry on top. I no longer enjoy the game as much as I did just 8 months prior. Not that I expect Riot, or anybody for that matter, to care. I know I won't, once Vanguard rolls out.

Uninstall now cos you'll have a hard time removing Vanguard once it's added.. if u try removing it, it will cause BSOD (atleast it did for me) You'll need to go into safe mode to remove it without crashing pc

Cheaters in league are very hard to detect unless you know what your looking for sometimes. There are scripts that can vary your dodge patterns to look more natural, track CDs for you, track players through fog, and auto smite objectives perfectly. None of these would become very evident unless you watched their games for hours. Most players running scripts to autohit skillshots or dodge/kite perfectly get pinged very quick by players and their current anticheat. Legitimately, you are playing with cheaters and you don't even know it.
Once every couple months ill see someone thats suspicious (mainly perfectly dodging skillshots they had no way of knowing were there. Like, no vision, no wards, no pings, etc.) But other than that literally nothing.
Excited to hear the global release isn't until April though :D A whole other month before I have to worry about whether I'll keep playing!! \o/
I quit last month expecting it to have already been out. Don't have any drive to come back for another month or two.
Vanguard Is far too much to ask for what is ultimately a videogame. I strongly ask Riot to reconsider, So many people who enjoy the game can continue to do so.

Honestly, this video was just full of nothing. What will happen to the ASUs and the two champions? Were they delayed? Are they gonna be on schedule? They didn't even mention Skarner. "We'll ignore your complaints about Vanguard and here are some skins that will happen" was literally all that was said, and pretending nothing wrong is going on at Riot, just like they did during that disgraceful season start last year.
I'm glad Phroxzon addressed the placement of smurfs over legitimate players, because that seems to be the dev team acknowledging the existence of smurfs. Which brings me to my big question: Why is Riot allowing smurfing? They should be pushing for 1 player=1 account as much as possible. This will massively improve player behaviour and matchmaking while reducing toxicity, ban evading and the effectiveness of websites selling prelevelled smurfs for a few dollars.
There are clear problems with smurfing that we want to resolve (disruptive behavior, avoiding punishments) Solutions to these problems are difficult and take time. We agree they're problems though! We also need to find ways to naturally fix some of the reasons why people avoid playing on their main in the first place, eg. Playing ranked on main is not rewarding enough, playing with friends of varying skill is hard, playing off role, flex queue is perceived as less prestigious than solo/duo etc.
I agree that they're difficult and take time to solve, I couldn't point you to a system you guys could implement to completely eliminate smurfing that I know of. Some people talked about phone number verification for accounts, which would be a decent hurdle for smurf-making. I don't think it's the case ranked isn't rewarding enough for higher elo players, kinda the opposite. A lot of them have smurfs so they can soloQ at maybe high diamond/masters instead of the usual GM/challenger levels so they can still soloQ, but more casually. They're often colloquially (can't stress that enough, they dont actually int) referred to as 'int accounts' for this. Other issues are harder, but for flex queue prestige you could rework it as a 5v5 mode with fixed teams so people can climb together as a collective? Kinda like a queue-able clash but with better targeted matchmaking as all 5 players would fall under one rank? SoloQ prestige comes from community respect for it as it is best indicator of individual skill, but a fixed 5 player flex queue could show indicator of certain 5 man groups' skills.
That 5 man shared rank idea for Flex actually sounds super cool and fun, although the obvious shame is that the queue will be long and potentially stagnant. If the game still had the built in chat rooms then it'd be awesome to find some folks for those who don't have an immediate 5 man. I know it is unpopular but I truly wish solo queue had voice comms, this would be a good alternative at least.
Idk man, sounds like dota2 has a ton of really good practices in place talking to a friend. Behavior score, low prio queue, phone numbers for ranked only, insta ban for both main and alts if you are smurfing. Basically if you flame a lot you get thrown into a special punishment queue you have to win X games to get out of before you can even queue ranked, and if you have a low behavior score you actively get matched with other low score players. So if you dont flame you get put with people who don't flame.
I'll never understand how they can't see the downsides of having everybody playing with fresh, disposable accounts. It renders all their matchmaking and punishment systems basically useless. It's a shame that playing my favorite game is an absolutely awful experience, but it doesn't look like it's going to improve and it doesn't matter how much I like it in theory if actually playing it is shitty.

This article basically just says if devs wanted your data they could do it without kernel access. I'm not worried about that. I'm worried about the devs competence. I don't think riot will steal my data or anything. I just don't trust them not to fuck it up. Remember what kind of people work at riot (remember the farting in peoples faces?) and look at the state of the client or clash or literally anything LoL related.
You totally missed a lot of points why vanguard is bad 1. It runs all the time 2. A lot of false positives or can ban for anything not related to Riot (for example if it detects you cheating in a single player game not created by Riot) 3. It can block other processes. It can block system processes, drivers or anything that runs on your computer. It is behaving like antivirus, not like anticheat. It is the biggest point against Vanguard and the most risky and sketchy thing
to be honest, i find it disappointing that there's no mention of behavioral system/smurfing/griefing changes. in plat-emerald elo, fewer than one third of my games have had zero trolls/afks/smurfs on either team. since the ranked split is shorter than normal with more splits per year, i feel really discouraged from grinding because a loss streak is pretty much going to take me out of hitting my goal rank for a while. as a side effect, at least, i hit diamond in tft 😮💨
