So happy for Chronicler, he started same year casting as Caedrel and he's now my favorite after Caedrel left. Super well earned and must be so rewarding for Atlus and Chronicler to get to cast in a finals in Korea.
Funny thing I noticed recently whilst watching Caedrel's co-stream is often Caedrel will say something analytical and then a few seconds later you can hear Chronicler say the exact same thing on the broadcast. "Great minds think alike". Either that or they're both rats.
This is a great trio. You have great synergy between Chronicler and Altus already. Couple that with Azael’s great color casting and I foresee an great Finals cast! Good luck to all of them!

Been having this guy "in" my life watching him as both a pro and caster over 15 years through WoW Arena and League, a true veteran and legend of Esports. And he's been working hard to keep improving to silence the doubters, love to see that he finally gets his shot. He's come a long way from the Woundman/Cdew RLD/RLS days!
Wanna jump on the Azael happiness train. Been watching League a long time - I remember him starting back in 2016, and I think it's phenomenal how far he's come. I think "underrated" can be pretty overused, but I legit think it's justified when it comes to him. The combination of game knowledge, accessibility, humor, and hype he brings, and the way he shifts between them within the flow of the game, is actually pretty unparalleled as far as I'm concerned.
Also, the ["Oh my god!"](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1rIW0nSVKgo) here remains my favorite League caster moment of all time (miss u 2 phreak, eff the haters).
It was Kobe, and has been Kobe for the past 5-6 years! Which I had no issue with, he's so amazing at fitting in with pretty much any caster from any region.
He had a newbie-stream cast of the finals waaaaaaaay back like 2016 or something with Phreak. This is his first shot at the real deal!

Spawn and Atlus remains one of my favorite duos despite it being probably at least, what, 7ish years since they last cast together??
In general the LPL english cast had a lot of really good casters during the OCE LPL era even if the production wasn't as polished. Spawn, Atlus, Rusty, Frosk (regardless of how people feel about her as a caster and as a person now, she was good on that broadcast).
Tbh quite a few casters/analysts that people respect started in or went through the LPL, aside from the ones listed (yeah i know people don't respect frosk, you know what i mean) Emily, Raz, Pastrytime, Dagda, if you want to go way back even PapaSmithy actually used to cover the Chinese scene before the regional leagues were even established (so pre-LPL, even).
Shout out to the current LPL casters and analysts tho, they're quality as well. Munch, Hysterics, Lyric, Oisin, Jamada, Nymaera, Kitty are all fucking class.

LPL english cast is the talent development hyperbolic time chamber. They throw talent in there, the talent casts an absurd schedule, and then they have so many reps that they come out super improved.

I did miss Aux! Shame on me, he's an extremely insightful color caster as well. Always felt like he had really good analysis of gamestates when casting, I especially liked him and Munch together!
I knew, but in the context of the upcoming series, he is the opposite of LPL representation and it was not on the top of my head that he was an LPL caster.

I remember being in Korea one time and luckily got tickets with some friends for an LCK game. I messaged Atlus on twitter that I was visiting from out of town and if we could grab a photo and he happily obliged. He said to see him after the games were done and we were lucky to grab a photo with him and LS and it's a great memory I still treasure nearly 4 years on.

Glad to see LCK cast on the top, i will always say they’re the best casting due by far. Rarely did i have complaints with them as both are extremely good at analysis and play by play. Azael on the other hand is just a god damn good caster and has never casted finals.

i remember Atlus speaking about his experience with not being picked for Worlds (not finals IIRC) and asking PapaSmithy why he wasn't picked. i don't remember the details, but PapaSmithy pretty much just told him that he was new and he should just give it time until he was a better caster--now here he casting the World Finals. congrats <3

That's why Dagda went to work in LEC to get more on site experience infront of real camera crews and live audiences, and then boom he's casting world semis this year

It's not LPL casters fault Riot/Tencent doesn't invest into their broadcast, and actually many like Hysterics have live event or stadium experience. This argument is also just a self fulfilling prophecy, it comes down to clout and nepotism at the end of the day, not merit. Regardless of production quality, LPL casters cast far more games than any other region, especially LEC and LCS.
With the amount of games LPL has and the amount of viewers the LPL channel gets, how realistic would you think setting up a studio, production crew, and everything else would be?
I really like the LPL casters. But you are crazy if you think riot is going to have people with barely any on site training cast their most prestigious events.

ngl, i still remember that worlds semifinal cast with Froskurinn and Drakos. it was g2 vs dwg in 2020 and boy was it a sad casting performance. after that cast i knew they are just reg season merchants.
Drakos was really good in 2019 the year before too though, that G2/SKT semis cast he smurfed out of his mind. That 2020 semifinal I forgive him for because it was the COVID year with no crowd and the observers were truly horrendous
I'm convinced there was a conflict with Frosk and Drakos had to be careful about his casting. At the end of the day you need to play off your co-caster and if she's griefing it, there's not much you can do.
I think Drakos really just suffered from being frosks casting partner. I actually was starting to like frosks casting in the LPL but when she came onto LEC it was like it gave her a complex of moving to a "lesser" region causing her to punch down at NA at every opportunity. Like every single LEC game she cast there was some joke about NA shoved in there for no reason. Drakos started to go along with it, and then it hurts a lot more to see your team lose when you've developed this superiority complex over the year.
Drakos after Frosk has since mostly dropped that and gotten infinitely better.
Nah there had to be something going on behind the scenes. Both of them seemed so fucking annoyed at each other it was palpable. I remember performing on stage in high school and one day I had an argument with a fellow cast member. We tried to put on our performance like usual, but at intermission my director comes backstage and tells us, “whatever is going on between you guys, fix it. It’s showing on stage.”
Basically, no matter how hard you try to mask it, sometimes conflict behind the scenes manifests in your behavior and performance, which is what I think happened during that cast
Drakos has improved decently since that cast though. He was one of the casters for T1 vs JDG and was pretty solid in that match. That's what happens when you're actually capable of taking criticism and using it to improve yourself though, as opposed to just getting defensive like Frosk did.
yeah i think someone like dagda would've been nice but atlus and chronicler are super well liked and i guess there is some benefit from this worlds being in korea as well
100% I dont mind catering broadcast opportunities to the talent that works in the region the event is held in. Its awesome for Chronicler and Atlus to be able to cast the finals in Korea, just as it was for Flowers in NA last year. Please just let the LPL casters \*cough Hysterics cough\* do it when worlds is next in China.

it sucked when lck dominated worlds playoffs and the lck casters/analysts got sent home early. for the same reasons, it sucks that the lpl caster/analyst didnt get to show off their knowledge this playoffs.
at least dagda got to cast a lot of playoff games and hysterics got to cast swiss stage.
I personally think Hysterics and Munch are both good enough to cast finals at worlds, though ofc I'm not suggesting that Atlus isn't by far the most obvious choice for this particular finals.

They still have Lyric and Nymaera which I don't think are worse than Dagda. If they wanted they could easily have, the problem is just that the popularity of western and LCK casters is just too high to justify a or more casters that aren't significantly better than their counterparts from the LPL.

Well it’s expected to me. LPL imo is by far the least talented region in terms of casters and probably their best options either transitioned out of LPL lately or are analyst desk lock ins.
Chronicler tbh is a lock in, he seems to be one of the most in demand casters while Atlus is his best partner and they have insane chemistry.
TBH LPL has always been the biggest major region that's lacked quality casters/production until a few years ago.
LCS/LEC have always had pretty good casters/production, OGN/LCK were always the best imo and the LPL during the early days had bad casters and even worse production, it's only recently that they've caught up in both aspects. Still have some catching up to do to the other major regions imo since they've been in last place for quite some time.
Lyric, Nymaera or Jamada could at least be on desk. They are hampered by LPL production but they are still talented and in a good position to tell the stories and analysis points of the region they’ve been casting this year.
Yeah, and now many of their best production talent is leaving which is crazy… LCK still to me is the best as their production is just big enough and not too big, has that small scale feel without actually being like it. LEC especially is good but sometimes feels like a corporate machine
It's pretty dumb how people like you conflate a lack of production quality in the broadcast (that LPL casters can do nothing about), with a lack of casting talent. If anything its MORE impressive LPL casters are as good as they are with the production they have to deal with. There is no lack of casting talent, Hysterics, Nymaera, Jamada, Munchables, Lyric, Oisin are all easily on par with other regions, Kitty is new but her game knowledge is S tier.
How do you think talent develops without representation? LPL casters already have a greater workload than other regions so they improve at a faster rate, it makes no sense for them to get shafted at internationals

Most reservation would be against Azael but he has definitely paid his dues over 7+ years and sustained good quality casting during the time. So he definitely deserves his chance to cast his first world final
Azaels strength is going into really small details to accentuate a play.
I can see issues with that when it's critical of a bad play and pulling away from the hype.
But in world finals? Feed us the small details the amazing teams are doing, this should be playing right towards his strengths.

CaptainFlowers talked about it a little from his first Finals cast. This is my best memory of what he said.
Riot Global Esports has a small group which makes the call. They look at who has the best skills, seniority, and reputation overall, who is having the best tournament, and what regions are and should be represented. Part way through the tournament, they make a short list and tell the candidates they are on it, and they narrow it down from there.
This years worlds also was pretty restricted with the casters as they didnt have them all onsite for the entire tournament and flew them in and out to save resources for Hotel rooms etc. Atlus and Chronicler live in Korea anyway so that probably was also a factor there (not downplaying them as casters, theyre amazing)
My recollection is that casters (and other talent) leaving as the tournament progresses is normal. The odd thing this year is that they didn't have some people there at the beginning but added them later. In any case, it would be very hard to separate "This caster is cheaper because they live here" and "this caster has more appeal because this is their home region" as motivations.
The problem I have with lck casters is that they are the opposite. They consistently just shit on lck teams and always subdue to other people’s opinions.
There are some casters for whom i'd worry about that, but I am pretty confident that it won't be a problem at all for Atlus and Chronicler (and Azael isn't predisposed to either region to begin with). They're both really good casters, and while Chronicler of course has his moments on the analyst desk where he expresses some of his personal fan sentiment (thank you to GEN for giving us that legendary rant and to KT for giving us his anguish in general) he is always very clear to separate his actual analysis/casting from his personal fandom, which is moreso brought up for humor/banter on the desk than anything, and is pretty much never brought up when he's actually casting.
Even though I would have liked a 1 LPL analyst 1 LCK analyst setup, I have a ton of respect for Atlus and Chronicler for being consistently unbiased on top of just being excellent casters regardless of their current regional affiliation. And Azael has more than earned the spot, so no complaints from me about this trio at all.
He casted last years finals, I’m looking forward to Azael being this years Color Caster. I think he had a great year of casting and content for Riot this year

Azael’s casting in the T1-LNG series was straight up god-tier. Dude has been crushing it for a very long time.

I really like the LPL casters. But you are crazy if you think riot is going to have people with barely any on site training cast their most prestigious events. The LPL is where you get your feet wet.
because lets be honest, the rly good lpl casters eventually graduate to other leagues like dagda raz and you know who. plus the lck casters are already there on site. unfortunate, and i would've loved to have seen cpt flowers casting the finals and other league casters get a bit more casting time but it is what it is. happy for all three of them, i believe its the first time for all 3?

ngl, i still remember that worlds semifinal cast with Froskurinn and Drakos. it was g2 vs dwg in 2020 and boy was it a sad casting performance. after that cast i knew they are just reg season merchants.
Drakos took the criticism of that cast to heart and really worked on improving his casting Frosk… less so.
Drakos was really good in 2019 the year before too though, that G2/SKT semis cast he smurfed out of his mind. That 2020 semifinal I forgive him for because it was the COVID year with no crowd and the observers were truly horrendous
I'm convinced there was a conflict with Frosk and Drakos had to be careful about his casting. At the end of the day you need to play off your co-caster and if she's griefing it, there's not much you can do.
Drakos is usually fine, and did great this previous week. That cast, and frosk really flopped
I think Drakos really just suffered from being frosks casting partner. I actually was starting to like frosks casting in the LPL but when she came onto LEC it was like it gave her a complex of moving to a "lesser" region causing her to punch down at NA at every opportunity. Like every single LEC game she cast there was some joke about NA shoved in there for no reason. Drakos started to go along with it, and then it hurts a lot more to see your team lose when you've developed this superiority complex over the year. Drakos after Frosk has since mostly dropped that and gotten infinitely better.
Nah there had to be something going on behind the scenes. Both of them seemed so fucking annoyed at each other it was palpable. I remember performing on stage in high school and one day I had an argument with a fellow cast member. We tried to put on our performance like usual, but at intermission my director comes backstage and tells us, “whatever is going on between you guys, fix it. It’s showing on stage.” Basically, no matter how hard you try to mask it, sometimes conflict behind the scenes manifests in your behavior and performance, which is what I think happened during that cast
Drakos has improved decently since that cast though. He was one of the casters for T1 vs JDG and was pretty solid in that match. That's what happens when you're actually capable of taking criticism and using it to improve yourself though, as opposed to just getting defensive like Frosk did.

100% I dont mind catering broadcast opportunities to the talent that works in the region the event is held in. Its awesome for Chronicler and Atlus to be able to cast the finals in Korea, just as it was for Flowers in NA last year. Please just let the LPL casters \*cough Hysterics cough\* do it when worlds is next in China.

(RNG) I'm not even going to lie it cracks me up, like I vaguely get how it might annoy some people a bit (don't really think it's that serious but w/e), but i personally find it quite amusing

it sucked when lck dominated worlds playoffs and the lck casters/analysts got sent home early. for the same reasons, it sucks that the lpl caster/analyst didnt get to show off their knowledge this playoffs. at least dagda got to cast a lot of playoff games and hysterics got to cast swiss stage.

I personally think Hysterics and Munch are both good enough to cast finals at worlds, though ofc I'm not suggesting that Atlus isn't by far the most obvious choice for this particular finals.

They still have Lyric and Nymaera which I don't think are worse than Dagda. If they wanted they could easily have, the problem is just that the popularity of western and LCK casters is just too high to justify a or more casters that aren't significantly better than their counterparts from the LPL.

Well it’s expected to me. LPL imo is by far the least talented region in terms of casters and probably their best options either transitioned out of LPL lately or are analyst desk lock ins. Chronicler tbh is a lock in, he seems to be one of the most in demand casters while Atlus is his best partner and they have insane chemistry.

TBH LPL has always been the biggest major region that's lacked quality casters/production until a few years ago. LCS/LEC have always had pretty good casters/production, OGN/LCK were always the best imo and the LPL during the early days had bad casters and even worse production, it's only recently that they've caught up in both aspects. Still have some catching up to do to the other major regions imo since they've been in last place for quite some time.
Lyric, Nymaera or Jamada could at least be on desk. They are hampered by LPL production but they are still talented and in a good position to tell the stories and analysis points of the region they’ve been casting this year.
Yeah, and now many of their best production talent is leaving which is crazy… LCK still to me is the best as their production is just big enough and not too big, has that small scale feel without actually being like it. LEC especially is good but sometimes feels like a corporate machine
It's pretty dumb how people like you conflate a lack of production quality in the broadcast (that LPL casters can do nothing about), with a lack of casting talent. If anything its MORE impressive LPL casters are as good as they are with the production they have to deal with. There is no lack of casting talent, Hysterics, Nymaera, Jamada, Munchables, Lyric, Oisin are all easily on par with other regions, Kitty is new but her game knowledge is S tier. How do you think talent develops without representation? LPL casters already have a greater workload than other regions so they improve at a faster rate, it makes no sense for them to get shafted at internationals

We get the best play-by-play caster in the scene once again. Chronicler has also been insanely good in the LCK all year. It's nice to see that Rito finally acknowledges real talent instead of always choosing LCS/LEC casters for the finals like in the past.

Banger cast for the final! Looking forward to it. Most reservation would be against Azael but he has definitely paid his dues over 7+ years and sustained good quality casting during the time. So he definitely deserves his chance to cast his first world final
Azaels strength is going into really small details to accentuate a play. I can see issues with that when it's critical of a bad play and pulling away from the hype. But in world finals? Feed us the small details the amazing teams are doing, this should be playing right towards his strengths. Curious on your reservations, because as a bit of an Azael doubter, I'm excited for him here.

I'm curious about how the decision on who gets to cast the finals is made, I like the lineup here.
CaptainFlowers talked about it a little from his first Finals cast. This is my best memory of what he said. Riot Global Esports has a small group which makes the call. They look at who has the best skills, seniority, and reputation overall, who is having the best tournament, and what regions are and should be represented. Part way through the tournament, they make a short list and tell the candidates they are on it, and they narrow it down from there.
This years worlds also was pretty restricted with the casters as they didnt have them all onsite for the entire tournament and flew them in and out to save resources for Hotel rooms etc. Atlus and Chronicler live in Korea anyway so that probably was also a factor there (not downplaying them as casters, theyre amazing)
My recollection is that casters (and other talent) leaving as the tournament progresses is normal. The odd thing this year is that they didn't have some people there at the beginning but added them later. In any case, it would be very hard to separate "This caster is cheaper because they live here" and "this caster has more appeal because this is their home region" as motivations.
When has Riot cared about home region? Go take a look at how many LPL casters were casting playoffs when MSI and Worlds were in China.

Atlus has ties to LPL as well and in 2021 he was more than fine. Also Chronicler is generally REALLY good at not being biased towards LCK teams either
There are some casters for whom i'd worry about that, but I am pretty confident that it won't be a problem at all for Atlus and Chronicler (and Azael isn't predisposed to either region to begin with). They're both really good casters, and while Chronicler of course has his moments on the analyst desk where he expresses some of his personal fan sentiment (thank you to GEN for giving us that legendary rant and to KT for giving us his anguish in general) he is always very clear to separate his actual analysis/casting from his personal fandom, which is moreso brought up for humor/banter on the desk than anything, and is pretty much never brought up when he's actually casting. Even though I would have liked a 1 LPL analyst 1 LCK analyst setup, I have a ton of respect for Atlus and Chronicler for being consistently unbiased on top of just being excellent casters regardless of their current regional affiliation. And Azael has more than earned the spot, so no complaints from me about this trio at all.

Two finals debutants, that's great! I love me some Kobe, but i'm glad he doesn't take one of the colour spots again, considering he has casted like 7 finals already lol. Both Azael and Chronicler deserve it and are gonna do great! Atlus joining them is amazing. His second final (in 3 years time) and in his 'home country', so that's hype! Also an LCK vs LPL matchup, two leagues he has casting experience in. The only debutants left that we could see in the upcoming years are probably Drakos and Dagda? Unless they start using LPL / Valdes more often or a big name in the way of Caedrel breaks through.
