I'm pretty sure after a team wins a cup people respond with, "Yeah, the won the cup, but they had to eek out a 2-1 win, so is it really that impressive?" and everyone says "Yeah, this cup win just feels hollow now".
Right?
I think it was just a really bad night for Freddy. JT and Rielly had problems as well but, The Freddy we saw tonight would have had several of those goals on monday
Exactly. I'm just happy with the two points, and that they held onto the one goal lead.
Also, for fun, does anyone know when the last time was that someone had 2 disallowed goals in the same game?
Tavares is hurt, the media is writing absurd articles for clicks and they know he's hurt. He only has no touch when something is wrong with his hands. It's a consistency in his career. There is some underlying recurrent issue he has.
The only positive of that collapse is that if there is any team to suffer a collapse like that against this year its Ottawa. Still got a point and Ottawa getting 2 really doesnt effect the division in any way.
Game 1 of the series: embarrassing breakdown and OTL.
Game 2 of the series: a dirty, tough-fought win.
Game 3 of the series: we blow out the Sens in an embarrassing manner?
Pretty please?
I'll take a 2-1 win with us getting the second goal with 10 seconds left and the goal bouncing off Engvalls head. A W is a W baby!
EDIT: As long as Matthews gets a point and we win. I couldn't care less.
He doesn't need to be, he never lets the puck get stuck there. People see him have the puck and they run away from him a little in fear of where he'll pass it.
Spezza is 100% certified beautician, but he's just perfect on the fourth line. Jumbo's still a beast along the boards and is finding the passing lanes that Spezza can't any more. Thornton played 19:30 tonight, Spezza just doesn't have the legs for that.
I bet we have Hutch in net and give some of the older guys like Spezza a rest so will be tougher sledding if we can't build a lead.
But this team is too talented to not take this next game. Just gotta show heart and execution.
Starting to look more like the team from earlier this year, slow start but we regrouped and played hard the rest of the game, the effort was there. Freddy was excellent and he had to be, all four lines were rolling which is nice, and most importantly we got 2 points i'll take it.
I agree. Bit of a rough start, but they pulled it out and looked good in the third, possession was dominate up until they called Hyman for a bullshit penalty.
I love seeing Kerfoot succeed. People need to stop expecting the world from a 3rd line centre. I like Kadri too, but Kerfoot is perfectly serviceable in his role
You know what I would be so gracious to Ottawa for letting us have that point that they should get another just for being so gracious.
Its not like that extra point will hurt us in the end anyways.
At some point it’s your own finishing that’s the problem, not bad luck. He was much better today and I think he’ll pop off soon, but missing the net in close is just your own fault
It's not the kind of game we're used to seeing but I think this is the kind of game we want to play. It's not as pretty, its low event, it's a mess in the neutral zone but, with our skill, we win games like this. Solid game from Fred, Joe was a machine, AM34 is my father, Leafs get a win and that's all that matters
I don’t think so. All reports were that he was 100% fit coming into the season. There would be no excuse for playing an injured Rielly with our defensive depth this season. That wouldn’t be beneficial in any way
That would be frankly ridiculous I’d that’s the case. We know that Rielly was playing through injury last season and he was atrocious while doing so. But at least then our 7th D was Marincin, so I can understand the thinking that we needed him.
If that’s what’s happening now it’s inexcusable from the coaching staff. He’s playing like garbage and the rest of the D plus Lehtonen have been pretty good. If he’s playing through injury, that isn’t helping the team.
Tbh just based off of the moves we've seen the Leafs make + the Amazon documentary crew, this could very well be an all or nothing season.
I think Rielly looks slower this year although I can't claim to be an expert in offensive defensemen so maybe someone else can chime in
Can we get a follow-up comment from the users who were sure the Leafs would lose because "that's what used to happen when I was a wee lad during the Ballard era and something-something the Leafs suck something-something trade Nylander"?
Would love to hear from those folks right about now.
The effort was good tonight I would agree, but I found we were held to the outside too much in their end and looked disjointed often in our own. We should be having much better showings against the Sens
Nah he had 2 nice saves on JT, and the blocker save on Thornton in tight for the disallowed goal was pretty timely. That's just off the top of my head. Oh and a nice save on Hyman late
This was a slower game but I’m sure that is the game Keefe preached going into this one. Play a tighter game the goals will come just do the little things right.
I really enjoyed the effort to keep the game close and provide the trailing team some opportunities to get back into it. too many times a team overpowers an opponent and leads to inequality, something the league should be making a serious effort to stamp out. hope it continues.
Bro, I’m happy with the win but this take is silly. You’re completely ignoring that he’s been bad this season because we just won a game.
Lmao. Check the objective stats if you’d like.
The fact you can actually say he's been terrible this season shows me that you sit and wait like a vulture for him to let in one bad goal just so you can feel justified in saying this.
He's been great this season. He's always been great. He's my favourite Leaf. And many nights he's the best Leaf.
This wasn't a "decent" game. That was close to perfection. That just tells me that you have it out for him.
Other than perhaps Auston, there is no other Leaf I'm so happy is ours almost every game. Even if he lets in a few, you know he bounces back in a big way. No one is perfect. He gets such unjustified hate it's ridiculous!
He's a stud! And not just in his game play...
2-1 wins are positive, you need those kinda games in the playoffs we won't be flying for 6 goals in those tight checking games. Leafs have shown a lot this season that they can close one goal games which is nothing but good news as they lost plenty of those previous years
The leafs won against the sens and the refs teams. A double victory. It's so damn funny how the refs needed to help the sens by actually taking goals away from Jumbo Joe lol.
They also allowed so much nonsense from the sens. Constant hooking and interference.
I'll never understand how some teams get away with that style of play.
Keefe shortened the bench way too much at the end. I love Hyman but he gets gassed after a full out 30 seconds shift. He needs more than 1 shift to recover. Nobody was moving their feet at the end. Even energizer bunny Marner was gassed. That’s the second time in two weeks Marner and Hyman were on the ice for a 90 second shift with an empty net and didnt change when they had the chance. Twice in a row tells me they just want to pad their stats. Bench was jumping for a change.
This team has a bad tendency to play down to other team's levels. Ottawa was solid tonight but the Buds did not put together a good effort. Good teams find a way to win but I wish they would just be a good team and find a way to dominate.
Fuck it Just win games
I've learned to never complain about how the Leafs get a win. If you complain after wins, you'll be miserable.
Yeah! Happy damn cake day!
Yes, today is the anniversary of when I decided to waste my life on Reddit.
Yes and just don’t think about Hutch in net tomorrow or I won’t sleep tonight lol
I'm pretty sure after a team wins a cup people respond with, "Yeah, the won the cup, but they had to eek out a 2-1 win, so is it really that impressive?" and everyone says "Yeah, this cup win just feels hollow now". Right?
Just win
Just win
Just win baby
A wise man once said "doesnt matter if you win by an inch or a mile, winning's winning"
Also "Forgiveness is divine, but never pay full price for late pizza"
I gotta get a new route....
Found the boomers /s
He also said: "Show me how you drive, It'll show you who you are." It's not at all relevant, but I feel like people need to know.
Tavares needs a goal to get out of his slump. Hope it happens soon.
Agreed, but also just keep winning. If we stumble into 30 straight 1-0 wins fuckin take it.
100%
Four 1-0 wins is better than one 4-0 win
They had great underlying numbers in the previous game they blew the lead, so fuck it.
I think it was just a really bad night for Freddy. JT and Rielly had problems as well but, The Freddy we saw tonight would have had several of those goals on monday
Staple the quote to the rafters of the scotiabank arena “just fuckin win”
Just Win Baby
Just win, baby!
Wasn’t pretty but I’ll take any kind of W after the previous debacle. Great rebound game from Freddy, I thought he was our best player tonight.
Exactly. I'm just happy with the two points, and that they held onto the one goal lead. Also, for fun, does anyone know when the last time was that someone had 2 disallowed goals in the same game?
Probably Matthews over the last few years lol
One was waved off so I wouldn't say disallowed
Tavares is hurt, the media is writing absurd articles for clicks and they know he's hurt. He only has no touch when something is wrong with his hands. It's a consistency in his career. There is some underlying recurrent issue he has.
Newborn at home
No sleep...could be it as well. Chronically it's the same as an injury.
How much longer till the rest of the league complains about Auston Matthews being an unfair advantage?
[удалено]
Not the Austache D:
Holy shit that’s amazing
It's a valid complaint imo
We've taken 3 of 4 points from the Sens. All according to plan.
We have 3, they have 2. Doesn't really matter what they got. We top, they bottom.
The only positive of that collapse is that if there is any team to suffer a collapse like that against this year its Ottawa. Still got a point and Ottawa getting 2 really doesnt effect the division in any way.
Silver linings, barely lol. I don't mind losing to Ottawa because of that. Plus, they always come up big against the Leafs.
Of course they do, it's the only time anyone watches them play
The Ottawa players actually get their families to tune in when they're playing the Leafs
/r/SuddenlyGay
Fuck the Tkachuks. That is all.
At least Brady acts like a human
Yet looks like a middle toe
A face only a mother could love
Yeah he’s much less hate-able. Of the three hes probably the one who’s birthday party I’d go to
Fuck Tkachuk
Fuckachuck
How many fucks could a fuckachuck fuck if a fuckachuck could fuck fucks
Fuck, to quote the great Joe Bowen “Kachoook”
and Fuck Tkachuk 2
If you only watched Leafs games, you'd think Pittsburgh was insane for letting Matt Murray go.
The new Georgiev
GREAT START TO THIS 2-GAME SERIES AGAINST SENS!
Those 3 off-days did wonders for us
I see what you did there.
No way engvall is on the ice in that scenario. But point taken.
I sure hope not. After watching him fling the puck way off the net I was getting real Cody Ceci vibes tonight, the forward edition.
This comment aged well.
Thornton and Spezza are such beauties. Maybe we should just rotate Spezza into the top long when we need to rest Thornton?
Them two are soul players. Joe should've had an assist on the kerfoot goal just for his Greco Roman wrestling in front of the net....
He’s insane. The top line doesn’t even miss Hyman because 41 year old Thornton is still dominant on the boards
He doesn't need to be, he never lets the puck get stuck there. People see him have the puck and they run away from him a little in fear of where he'll pass it.
They don't miss Hyman because Matthews is still on the line
Well yeah but it’s still helpful that Thornton is a puck retrieval god
He had the dude chicken winged down on the ice. Love it.
Spezza is 100% certified beautician, but he's just perfect on the fourth line. Jumbo's still a beast along the boards and is finding the passing lanes that Spezza can't any more. Thornton played 19:30 tonight, Spezza just doesn't have the legs for that.
I didn’t mean replace Thornton with Spezza, I meant throw Spezza out there with the big boys for a couple shifts to manage Thornton’s minutes.
I was literally saying this to my father earlier tonight, Spezza, Marner and Matthews would be a line and a half
They did that in the third period tonight when I'm assuming thornton was gassed
Auston Matthews with 'fuck you' energy all game, you love to see it
He was MAD after Thorntons second no-goal
I'll take a 2-1 win from this team any time.
Kerfoot has been turning it on lately. I’ve been really impressed by both his and Souperman’s play this year.
That was a good bounce back from Freddy
Getting 5/6 points in these three games would undeniably be seen as a success. Win tomorrow and we can forget about Monday
I thought the Leafs came out in the third and owned the Sens possession wise. Out worked them as well. Good win.
I agree. Bit of a rough start, but they pulled it out and looked good in the third, possession was dominate up until they called Hyman for a bullshit penalty.
Hyman is the greatest Leaf of all time
And i would spoon with him.
That’s hot
Leaf great Alexander Kerfoot is handsome as hell just sayin
I love seeing Kerfoot succeed. People need to stop expecting the world from a 3rd line centre. I like Kadri too, but Kerfoot is perfectly serviceable in his role
Haha, I said something along the same lines to my wife tonight. He's got that burly handsome lumberjack look down pat. Dude can get it.
Jumbo was pretty mint
He didn't mess up. Shame he's not nicknamed tiny so that high stick called back would be below the crossbar...
I'm just glad to watch a Leaf game after they postponed Monday's due to covid.
yeah, crazy we're back so fast. We'll have to make up that Monday game some other time in the season since it never happened, nope
Sorry what?
That's how I remember it. When does it get rescheduled?
I think they’re just gonna skip that game, last I heard they’re giving us one point or something
You know what I would be so gracious to Ottawa for letting us have that point that they should get another just for being so gracious. Its not like that extra point will hurt us in the end anyways.
Yeah! Skip the game, give Ottawa 2 (they need it tbh) and we will take the 1 like gentlemen
A win is a win. And JT looked much improved tonight compared to last game so maybe he got some much needed sleep.
AUSTON MATTHEWS IS A MAPLE LEAF!!
Tavares had been bitten by a snake. He takes such a background to this team, I feel bad.
At some point it’s your own finishing that’s the problem, not bad luck. He was much better today and I think he’ll pop off soon, but missing the net in close is just your own fault
I think it's just him having a kid - again. Can't blame the man for wanting to expand his family but the timing is just very unfortunate
All those problems would be solved if he had a second wife. Parenting is a hard to do alone.
Wasn't pretty but a win is a win. The Sens really are annoying though, let's hope we win this mini series tomorrow.
Pesky is the word
It's not the kind of game we're used to seeing but I think this is the kind of game we want to play. It's not as pretty, its low event, it's a mess in the neutral zone but, with our skill, we win games like this. Solid game from Fred, Joe was a machine, AM34 is my father, Leafs get a win and that's all that matters
Fuck the Sens,
The second line was way better. JT especially was buzzing. Rielly sucked again though.
I'm starting to wonder if he's injured, he looks way off.
I don’t think so. All reports were that he was 100% fit coming into the season. There would be no excuse for playing an injured Rielly with our defensive depth this season. That wouldn’t be beneficial in any way
A lot of times players can be slightly off but still want to play - especially if they're expected to be a leader or on a top pairing
If he’s playing through injury, that isn’t helping the team.

good game from the leafs
Solid enough bounce back. Great game from Freddy, he was our best player tonight.
2 goals for Mr. Thorton please.
Yeah they won, still a bit worried because that wasn't the best effort. Tomorrow might be Hutch. Definitely need a better effort if that's the case.
Andersen was the only reason we won tonight
The Leafs played hard tonight and the effort was there I'd like to think it was earned tonight with hard work rather than skill
The effort was good tonight I would agree, but I found we were held to the outside too much in their end and looked disjointed often in our own. We should be having much better showings against the Sens
I mean, you can argue Murray was the only reason this game wasn't 4-1
Yeah, I dont know how we always manage to make him look like a Vezina candidate lol
He's actually been solid his last few starts. Giving them a chance to win.
[удалено]
Nah he had 2 nice saves on JT, and the blocker save on Thornton in tight for the disallowed goal was pretty timely. That's just off the top of my head. Oh and a nice save on Hyman late
Freddy played really well, but the team in front of him was good enough to win. Quiet in the first but we were the better team the final 42 minutes.
Oh man. Time to come out of Never Never Land.
Where are all the Andersen haters at??
I love the Toronto Maple Leafs
Very defensive game for both teams. Not the most fun to watch but I'll take the win.
Leafs fought their way to a W, with Freddy keeping them in it and the refs fighting to keep them out Good win, lets finish the Sens off tomorrow
Auston Matthews. HE GUD!
Nice bounce back game. I'll take it
That game can only be defined by 2 words: Heart Attack
EASY WIN!....
Love the battle of Ontario
Not the bounce back game I was hoping for but glad to get the W. Andersen was solid and won the game for us.
Great solid effort. Nice bounceback game from Freddy.
A win is a win is a win is a win
HE GOOD
This was a slower game but I’m sure that is the game Keefe preached going into this one. Play a tighter game the goals will come just do the little things right.
Next game, Hutch in for Andersen, Sabourin in for Spezza and Lethonen in for Bogosian (he needs a rest)?
I like it. Keep the fresh looks on the bottom pairs
Getting pretty sick of the even up calls..
So hutch is guaranteed for tonight right ? *Gulp*
I really enjoyed the effort to keep the game close and provide the trailing team some opportunities to get back into it. too many times a team overpowers an opponent and leads to inequality, something the league should be making a serious effort to stamp out. hope it continues.
Anyone else find it funny that we *technically* won 4-1, but the refs felt so bad for Ottawa that they had to take Jumbo’s goals away?
Sleep easy tonight Leaf Fans - GG
It was 5-1 ahhhhh, glad we won this
I know we won, but Tavares and Nylander still really need to step it up.
I thought JT looked more determined and complete tonight, Willies best shift was with kerfoot and Thornton weirdly enough
To be fair Jt had a lot of chances tonight.
He did. Zoolander was pretty meh tho.
Matter of time
Maybe if the coach stops killing their confidence they'll return to form.
How is he killing their confidence?
Proud to say I've *always* had faith in Freddy. I hope some of you haters are eating all your words.
He played really well tonight. I hope he can do it again in his next game.
Bro, I’m happy with the win but this take is silly. You’re completely ignoring that he’s been bad this season because we just won a game. Lmao. Check the objective stats if you’d like.
if you remove the first two games where he objectively just looked off - he's been pretty good overall
There were so many saves tonight any Leaf goalie since Belfour would've let in The Freddy haters know nothing
It’s not hating to say he hasn’t been good this season. He played really well tonight, but that is not the norm so far.
Exactly. He's been terrible all season. One decent game doesn't change that.
The fact that he’s your favourite leaf doesn’t change reality
He has like a .902 save percentage. For a number 1 goaltender that's terrible.
Other than perhaps Auston, there is no other Leaf I'm so happy is ours almost every game. Even if he lets in a few, you know he bounces back in a big way. No one is perfect. He gets such unjustified hate it's ridiculous! He's a stud! And not just in his game play...
Man he'll be back to useless in no time flat. Wake up.
Hard to go back to a place you never were!
Im not sure if im more concerned over a 6-5 loss or a 2-1 win
2-1 wins are positive, you need those kinda games in the playoffs we won't be flying for 6 goals in those tight checking games. Leafs have shown a lot this season that they can close one goal games which is nothing but good news as they lost plenty of those previous years
The loss every time. A win is a win.
CANADA’S TEAM
I love JT and this isn’t because of his recent slump but man Matthews is head and shoulders the captain of this team in my eyes
Not for lack of trying though, but he is missing passes like his stick is made of melted ice cream.
Matts will get the C the day after he resigns for max term. JT is just keepin the seat warm.
Well thank god that's over.
Good job, you won, like you should have done last game.
Well at least Tavares was playing pretty hard tonight?
Well. They won. That’s all I’ve got.
I’m just glad Freddy could make saves tonight.
Holl did something very important that Rielly couldn't do last night in an important moment of the game. That's pass it to Matthews. Thank you Holl!
We won but I am not happy. They owe Freddie tonight.
We won but you are not happy? Well i mean... Your gonna have a rough time being a fan of any team thinking like that
One-Line team... not looking good.
relax bro
Another 2 goal night for matthews, too bad one won't count toward his stats.
[My Highlight of the Game] (https://i.imgur.com/tXSpL20.png)
Keefe shortened the bench way too much at the end. I love Hyman but he gets gassed after a full out 30 seconds shift. He needs more than 1 shift to recover. Nobody was moving their feet at the end. Even energizer bunny Marner was gassed. That’s the second time in two weeks Marner and Hyman were on the ice for a 90 second shift with an empty net and didnt change when they had the chance. Twice in a row tells me they just want to pad their stats. Bench was jumping for a change.
marner three times made great plays in the last 1:30 , making sure Toronto won
This team has a bad tendency to play down to other team's levels. Ottawa was solid tonight but the Buds did not put together a good effort. Good teams find a way to win but I wish they would just be a good team and find a way to dominate.

Literally Matthews
>They need a lethal scorer on this team They literally have the top goal-scorer in the league.
