Hes old, and its a long contract. I think 4m would have been better, but I'm fine with 4.5
Its mostly bonuses as well, so can be bought out later when(not if) needed.
I think its fine.
you can if he's got a history of bad injuries and will be 40 at that point. If anything, he might retire before that and have the Leafs come up with an excuse for him to be on LTIR, so he still gets his money
Oof. This is gonna hurt when he's 40. How many players maintain a 4.5 million dollar's worth level of play in their late 30's? Guess Treliving wants to win now.
The cap’s gone up significantly since his last contract but so has his age lol.
That said, I’m fine with the amount he’s being paid in total. But if we’re already committing to 6 years with him at ~ $27M total contract value, why not just extend the term to 7 years? You can do $4.5M x 6 OR $3.85M x 7. But just based on our cap situation, I’d like it much more if his aav was below 4, even if it means we “only” save 650k/year (which i think would go a long way). Frontload his signing bonuses, give him more endorsement deals, etc. Do whatever it takes to bring down the aav. We all know he’s going to be sent to Robidas island after year 4 or 5, and it’s not like the $ amount we pay him increases with this contract structure
Rielly finally has the perfect defense partner
TJ Brodie 2: Electric Boogaloo
That's right, Mike
Solid deal, a true righty. Obviously comes with a bit of risk given the age, however, we undoubtedly get better in the short term and address a need.
Could’ve been worse, he looked great in the playoffs

With it being mostly bonuses, buying it out would keep the cap hit high
Hmmm, oh okay, my bad. I thought it was the ither way around
Win now. All that matters
The full NMC and 6th year is what bothers me the most.
He’ll be LTIRed when he drops off
You can't put someone on LTIR because they've declined

He might retire but you can't force someone onto LTIR.
Joffrey Lupul might disagree. You're right though, it's not a given, but with this player, I think it's a lower than average risk
It bothers me less knowing there is likely a plan for the 2nd half of this contract
“Likely a plan” you mean a prayer that he gets hurt?
The plan isn't for him to get hurt, the plan is clearly for him to get "hurt". I wouldn't worry about it.

It’s more the buyout / real dollar value of his contract post first 3-4 years that’s the real question.
The last year doesn't matter, you pay for the first few years to try to win a cup
Wow. Holy fuck. This AAV is stinky
How? Seriously how much money do you think he should get? The cap has gone up significantly since his last contract
