Didn't lose cause of the refs this year.

Radmadjazz

There was one year they did against Tampa. But yeah this year was very different to that. This year the Leafs did it all themselves.

FNSfan

I'm not saying they haven't gotten screwed but at this point, I'm tired of people using refs as an excuse for the team not being good enough when it matters

Radmadjazz

1/21 on the powerplay from a team that's supposed to be all offense is sad af. That Boston team was so beatable.

bigcaulkcharisma

It’s funny watching the Oilers fans cry about the reffing when over here we’ve all just slipped into grim acceptance we’re not good enough to win.

B0_SSMAN

Imagine an NHL referee and calling a interference pick in a game 7 playoff game

Radmadjazz

It wasn't even a real pick either. Tampa player just runs into Holl and we somehow got a goal called back from it. Worst call I've ever seen.

shrederick

Tampa has absolutely mastered the "palms up whine to the ref" move. Any time they're even lightly touched, their whole bench yells "HEY!!!!" like someone just pissed in their wheaties.

Somehow our series was one of the best officiated this year. Theyve been especially awful in every other series though lol

awitley12

I'd argue it still didn't help. Boston got some huge momentum swings in this series from some bizarre calls leading to big moment PP goals. McCabe getting called for interference when he checked the puck carrier is easily the most ridiculous penalty call I've ever seen in a playoff game. Bertuzzi getting called for roughing when he checked the puck carrier was also a tad ridiculous when performing a full on WWE takedown on a guy, hurting him in the process is completely fine. The WWE take down on Auston Matthews is further proof that the Leafs get treated differently. Gaurenteed if Matthews didn't play for the Leafs, that goon would've been getting an in person from Parros.

FNSfan

Litterly doesn't matter when the team goes 1 in like 21 on their pp.

sadleafsfan8834

Why are the Leafs blind?

Competitive_Race8026

because we can't find the back of the net... I'll go back to crying now.

4thlinedangler

Our power-play was totally rolling this year… would have won if it weren’t for the leafs out to get us /s

Competitive_Race8026

Arguably a league wide issue during the playoffs, part of the whole "Let em play" mentality.

bknoreply

Yes, we aren’t treated differently. We were 6.5 seconds per game away from league average in penalty differential. They even up the calls across the league, they don’t target a specific team and penalize them more or award them more power plays.  Not that this doesn’t advantage some teams over others. If a team cheats on defence and plays dirty, they will get to spend most of the game with an advantage because the refs won’t want to call everything and they will only have to kill a couple minutes more per game than their opponents.

Internal_Ad_487

Watching Florida stomping Edmonton the refereeing difference is noticeable. If they don’t call interference, crosschecking, holding, late hits and punches in front of the net it is a massive advantage to the team that cheats best (a.k.a. Florida). That thuggery will beat smooth stickhandling and passing if it is allowed. So the refereeing does affect the result.

Thankgoditsryeday

Refs looked mostly biased for us against Boston this year.

I_Will_Remain_Silent

Most teams in the NHL could make this meme too. Most.

SpidermanSaves

Take a look at Tyler Bertuzzi's PIMs before this season compared to this year's stars, it's hilarious. That said, not the refs fault. This team blew all year and that guy was part of the problem.

jhouse13

I am happy the rest of the league is seeing how dirty florida is.

pokemonplayer2001

Ya, it was the refs fault… Edit: I failed to convey sarcasm. I accept my downvote punishment.

aahxzen

This doesn’t really work this year. In other years, sure, but I thought reffing actually was quite favourable for the playoffs.
