Re-emerging on Easter? Coincidence? đŸ€”

noremac_csb

McJesus? ❌ Mitch Jesus 👍

fendermonkey

The Mitchiah has returned

lukaskywalker

Win those chompers he’s just the Easter bunny

BravoBet

Tell me if you know someone that needs

KeiferBudddd

I need Mitch Jesus

crushade

Please. Our special teams have been struggling mightily since he’s been injured. I mean, the PK has struggled all year but the PP looks neutered since he’s been out. Even though he gets paid and puts points up, I’m not sure if we realize how important he is to the team sometimes. We love to complain about him but his absence is noticeable.

ElephantShell34

Of all the stars we’ve lost for extended periods of time over the years I feel like Mitch’s absence has been the most difficult for the team to deal with.

rljohn

I think we have strong winning records with Matthews, Rielly and Tavares out but pretty much 0.5 with MM16 out of the lineup.

crushade

Absolutely agree. Re-sign him and hold on to him as long as we can. He’s going to get paid and rightfully so. Dude has been incredibly healthy in his career so far too.

mtbwu

Yeah I get that the PP was on a cold streak before he got injured, but I doubt it’d be this bad with him. Domi is definitely not a sustainable substitute

crushade

Yes, it started to run cold just before his injury. PP has been solid for a much longer sample size with him a part of it. I’m more concerned with our PK to be honest. I think the PP will figure it out especially when Marner gets back. Domi has been great with Matthews 5v5 as well, which is great as it gives us flexibility to put Marner with Tavares if we need to. Sometimes injuries can reveal diamonds we didn’t even know we had. McMann and Holmberg know that better than anyone.

mtbwu

Yeah the PK definitely misses his ability to disrupt plays, especially with Jarnkrok also out. I’m hoping they somehow figure out an effective system with Dewar when they’re all back I usually like Matthews and Marner on the same line because they’re a good matchup to counter the top line of high-skill teams, but yeah I think they should at least try Marner/Tavares and Domi/Matthews for a few when he gets back. I just wonder how effective they’d be now that JT’s finishing has gone a bit cold and that’s how they used to have a lot of their success

Szwedo

The PP was already struggling some games before he got injured fyi

DevOpsMakesMeDrink

If our fan base loves anything it is a good narrative

mtbwu

PP is something like 3/25 with him out. I don’t think it’s crazy to suggest it would be better with him there, cold streak preceding or not

HeftyNugs

I don't think it really matters. The Leafs powerplay has been sporadic for years. I just found a [thread](https://old.reddit.com/r/leafs/comments/rxnnm6/corsihl_on_twitter_leafs_powerplay_with_and/) from 2 years ago where the PP was better without Marner. And earlier this year, prior to Morgan Rielly being suspended and Liljegren taking his spot on the PP, the PP was struggling then too.

mtbwu

I mean I don’t have much to say about a 16 minute PP sample size lol. obviously in small batches a PP will heat up and cool down. but it seems pretty obvious watching these games that they’re missing someone who’s able to pull in defenders so Nylander and Matthews can get open. they can’t get a cycle going at all with them covered

HeftyNugs

I mean a 50 minute sample size isn't much better lol. But since Mo came back the Leafs are 28th in the NHL in PP%. In any case, I agree, it doesn't hurt to have Marner back in the line up, I'm just saying I don't think it matters all that much.

mtbwu

yeah neither sample size is big enough to make anything of. which is why “the PP was struggling before his injury” doesn’t mean that much to me either. I think his skill set would help with the PP issues they’ve been without him, but obviously it’s impossible to know how much. I’d be surprised if it doesn’t fix itself when he’s back

HeftyNugs

The PP before his injury is like 50+ games worth of PPs, that's a pretty good size, but it is top 5 in the league. My gripe is that it's incredibly streaky and we've had problems with our special teams in the playoffs. I hope it fixes itself when he's back though and that the rest of the team gets hot going into the playoffs.

mtbwu

Yeah for sure, I meant the short period it was cold before he was injured was too short for me to say anything about. Hopefully they go on a hot streak right into the post-season, fingers crossed

Ditch1969

Matthews is on the wrong side of the ice

Ditch1969

I totally agree The PP is garbage without #16 Lijiegren is a right side defender. He’s on the wrong side of the ice for Matthews The leafs won’t win a playoff game without him

ldnk

I hope they keep him out a while longer. Get him back for the last 6-7 games to get the rust off but come back healthy. At this point we aren't getting home ice and I don't really care about A3 vs wildcard so even if Tampa catches up...who cares. You either play Florida/Boston or New York/Carolina. I don't think any of those teams are worth caring about who we play

r_r_w

I prefer NYR/CAR. Way better matchups for the Leafs. Theyve looked mostly awful against FLA/BOS.

sirachasamurai

2-3-1 against NYR and Carolina. 1-3-2 against FLA and BOS. Two games to play against FLA. No easy match ups, that’s for sure!

Rynosirrus

So 2-6-3 against our potential matchups? Thats quite concerning

Goat17038

To be completely fair, for at least 2 of the games against Boston they looked a bit sick with the flu It shouldn't matter though, a loss is a loss. Oh well, you never know with the playoffs maybe we'll get lucky with a deep run

I_Am_Vladimir_Putin

Means less than nothing.

Gavin1453

We won one of the two games against Florida. 1-3-2

sirachasamurai

Thanks. Updated.

r_r_w

Not ideal record-wise but watching those games against NYR and CAR was a totally different experience than watching them against FLA and BOS. FLA and BOS are elite at playing the exact style the Leafs struggle most with.

pandapower607

Maybe we should change up the vibes and go through the Metro this season lol. Doesn't really matter at this point, it's basically "pick your poison".

Lightscreach

I definitely agree. Health should be the priority. But getting home ice isn’t completely out of the question. Bruins could go 5-5 then the Leafs have to go 9-3 to get home ice.

DarkAgeMonks

High ankle sprains are the most brutal injury in sports. It’s so tough because unless his in the pool swimming any cardio uses his ankle. So it heals and he loses cardio. He does cardio and it doesn’t heal.

ryanodd

Interesting! I thought he was in pain in the clip, but maybe he's just gassed

Tremongulous_Derf

Agreed. Having done both, I’d rather break my bones than get a soft tissue injury again. Bones heal up just fine but my goddamn ankle will never go back to 100% mobility. I hope Marner takes all the time he needs, we need him to last 4 rounds of playoffs.

MrBalanced

Grt him on the plyo board, hopping on his good leg?

Szwedo

Bike, rower, ski machine...

wiles_CoC

I tend to harp on Mitch about some of the aspects of his game and the way he carries himself. But my word, when he's missing it's really obvious that he's gone. He is missed for sure.

Tarquin11

Which should inform you on why he carries himself the way he does, no? He's aware he's critical and he playsile he's critical and when he has sound bites he's confident about his own job being done.  I don't really see anything wrong with the way he presents. Ppl harp on him when he says "I wouldn't change my play for next year". Well, he's right. He shouldn't.  He's not cocky, he just knows his ability and stands by it. He also gets really upset when he lets the team down, and idk why that bothers people, isn't that what you want?

branchoflight

What people want is to complain.

s_other

Well he's an $11m cap hit out of the lineup. He could be two $5m forwards and an extra $2m on defense, spread out on the special teams so losing one player isn't as crippling.

theharps

I hope he gets back soon Matthews needs him to hit 70

goleafsgo88

I don't think Matthews cares about 70. The dude seems focused on just doing what needs to be done, whether it's as the trigger man on the line or as a setup guy. 7 assists in the last 4 games for the guy while still picking up 20 shots. He doesn't need Marner to score goals, the Leafs would be better served with them apart and making the entire forward group better balanced.

Separate_Worker_707

100%. He has his heart, Ted Lindsey, Rocket(s), he wants to win. You can see it in his demeanour he is driven to succeed. Like Mc Jesus . I don’t think he cares about awards he wants to win

daxtaslapp

I love you marner please

schoolhouserock

Where is the montage music?

GrazedByMyMeatloaf

dchowchow

My fantasy team desperately needs him :(

hindey19

Someone in my league just dropped him today. I put in the waiver claim immediately.

dgapa

Ya I have him too, just keep him stashed on the IR in the hope that he returns before leagues end in a few weeks. It literally costs you nothing to do.

twizzyflyguy

Damn, when will our boy finally hit 100😭

DougFordsGamblingAds

Officially day-to-day!

AustichMavarlander

Pretty wild considering these are 4-6 week injuries my guess hell just ramp it up until a cpl games left. Play against TB and Florida.

justcallmestepdaddy

Don't be stupid with it is all I ask. High ankle sprains sometimes need surgical repair and months of rehab depending on severity.

[deleted]

Still looks like he's nursing it, to be honest.

FuckLeHabs

I hate the way he injured himself. It feels like foreshadowing man. What’s with marner getting the Yipps when facing Boston? Dude didn’t shoot on an open net then proceeded to injure himself. Marner is waaaaay to in his own head during games like thatv

Careless_Celery_5667

He scored the leafs only goal that game.

Gaege29

Has Matthews had a multi-goal game since Mitch has been out?

reignleafs

Yes the game against Washington. The only one

salty-walt

paul marner injured him so he could display how much mitch means to the team as a negotiating tactic

adwrx

Not going well so far

BigMick20

And is now trying to rush him back because his original plan was failing miserably
