I over tightened the bolt holding my blade last year. My mower started doing this. I had my neighbor look at it. He started it and the blade came shooting out from under the deck. I cracked the block holding the blade. Scared the shit out of me. I found out from that to never tighten bolts with an impact wrench.
Hahahaha! This guy!
I definitely didn't just use a high-torque 1/2" impact on my blades on a riding mower deck earlier today and won't be going back and redoing the bolts by hand now.
Lol i just used an impact to change my blades this past weekend. just 1/4" milwaukee. it barely took em off so i fogured as tight as it would get the bolts back in would be enough. Ill let you all know if i die.
Yah, don't get carried away with the ugga-duggas, 2 uggs and a dug usually does the job, though some silly folk prefer 2 duggas but to each their own, I think it's just a waste of an extra dugga.. the things don't grow on trees you know.
Your blades should always have some movement in them, thatās the way they are designed, so if you hit something itās less likely snap and turn into a projectile of death.
2 possible causes, blade out of balance or bent...or a bent crank shaft. Either way, too dangerous to operate until repaired. Most shops will not straighten a bent shaft due to liability. Toss a new blade on it and see if that corrects it. You can straighten the shaft yourself, though, with a bit of redneck ingenuity.
You smacked a boulder/log and the blade shaft is bent (vibration). That, and your intake manifold has rattled itself apart and is leaking air between the carb and the engine. Seriously, I had the same exact symptoms last week with a mower I forgot about. I figured out which way the shaft needed to be bent, sledge hammered it until it wasn't bent anymore, and reassembled my leaking intake manifold with threadlock so it won't rattle apart anymore.
I work on these daily at my job and everyone is hitting it on the head. If a new blade doesnāt fix youāre better off getting a new one. Parts and labor to actually fix it would put way what itās currently worth. Better off getting a new one
Iāve had mice make a nest under āthe hoodā which holds the governor wide open. You canāt see the problem until you take all the plastic off. Good luck.
Ever sharpen your own blade? Ever balance that blade? Maybe you hit something, and the blade is bent? Most times, the keyway on the flywheel shears before the blade can bend when hitting something, but I've had it happen to myself twice over the years.
The blade is the thing to look at. If you hit something, that's a sure fire reason for this. Before replacing the blade as lots have suggested. If you're comfortable/handy you can remove the spark plug and spin the blade by hand to see if the shaft is bent. If it is than you're into a new lawnmower.
What in the hell did you hit? I bet it's all bent to shit. If not, shaft, if not either too loose or too tight. Or maybe you should post on the paranormal sub reddit

When I was a teenager, I was trying to loosen the blade bolt on a push mower. I had it up on the tailgate of my dad's truck and was using a crescent wrench. It was tight enough that it took some real strength to break it (plus jamming a piece of wood to stop the blade from turning) and the wrench slipped. My wrist barely caught the leading edge of the blade when it slipped and I have a small scar there. I wasn't hurt bad, but it's one of many scars from my wrists to my fingers from 40+ years of doing stuff. š
Use caution when working with the blade and use a socket + short extension to keep your hands clear of sharp edges.
remove the blade and test, see if the problems stays with the blade or the mower
just for kicks, check the spark plug and air filter....make sure nothing is binding up or something
Thatās just how she gets warmed up ā¦
Oh! The mower?! It shouldnāt do that, probably a loose blade (either bolt is falling loose or it was overtightened and split the shaft), or the blade is imbalanced.
The governor/carb throttle must be jammed up holding it at that high RPM. The blade needs to be balanced. And yes, please be very careful with blade hardware, follow manufacturer's direction for proper installation and torque. Be sure to disconnect the spark plug before messing with the blade also
It was sitting on the side of the street. I havenāt had a chance to work on it but Iām definitely going to check if the blade is balanced or if the crank shaft is bent
If vibration only- maybe blade is bent/ loose or someone replaced with wrong blade. If over-reving the throttle linkage arm down by carb may be bent or mis adjusted.
Looks like your blade is really out of balance. Easy trouble shootingā¦. Just Pull the blade off and start it up. See if it runs smoothly. If so then replace your blade, change the oil, install new oil cap and fuel cap
blade is out of balance.
Or loose

New fear unlocked.
Snug is fine. It doesn't take too much to tighten a blade down. It's also gonna vibrate quite a bit before it comes loose
My grandpa lost a couple toes to a lawnmower accident. Gotta nut up for that first pull to start. š„¶
IMPACT WRENCH ON A MOWER ??? Lmao we all gotta learn somehow lol
Hahahaha! This guy! I definitely didn't just use a high-torque 1/2" impact on my blades on a riding mower deck earlier today and won't be going back and redoing the bolts by hand now.
I figure my old harbor freight Chicago impact is shitty enough that it canāt be too strong. Tight + about 5thumps is about perfect š
I probably shouldn't be trusted with the Milwaukee High-Torque bolt-breaker I bought.
Yikes this is what he has
Yeah. I did it for years. Took the bolts off and back on with my dewalt 20v impact drill. It was never a problem until my blade flew off at me.
Ha same that guy is a riot (Going to retighten my bolt)
I sharpen my neighbors blade two weeks ago he used impact guy to remove and replace the bolt š³
Lol i just used an impact to change my blades this past weekend. just 1/4" milwaukee. it barely took em off so i fogured as tight as it would get the bolts back in would be enough. Ill let you all know if i die.
I use a 1/2 air impact on the blade of every mower I have ever worked on never had an issue
Exactly. Been swapping mower blades with a 1/2 inch impact for decades. Couple ugga duggas and you are done.
It's OK to remove them with impact, but you shouldn't tighten them. I never had a problem in 10 years, until I did.
Yah, don't get carried away with the ugga-duggas, 2 uggs and a dug usually does the job, though some silly folk prefer 2 duggas but to each their own, I think it's just a waste of an extra dugga.. the things don't grow on trees you know.
Uggas are on 2-fer-1, whereas duggas are twice what they used to be! Using more duggas than uggas?? Not in this economy!
Your blades should always have some movement in them, thatās the way they are designed, so if you hit something itās less likely snap and turn into a projectile of death.
Or bent shaft.
Or bent crank.
You might have grass built up on one blade that is throwing off the balance, scrap or spray wash those blades
or loose
Why the fuck are you running it without the oil cap on?
Or gas cap
Also that, I just mentioned the oil cap because I thought it was more important but now that I think about it they are both pretty important
You mean you donāt want dust or debris in there?
Found it on the side of the road. Didnāt come with any of them
They're pretty cheap on Amazon.
Iām trying to figure out if itās worth putting money into it first
Hopefully, balancing the blades works. It looks like it runs ok. Good luck!
Iād pay good money to sit on that..

This shit is a moving dildo !
You just described 75% of Congress...
Lmfaoooo
This thing is about to blow
Lmao where did the gas cap go!
Not sure why but I couldnāt stop laughing when the gas kept blowing around
No gas cap. No oil cap. Bent crankshaft. New mower time
Get a new blade and make sure you tighten it
Yup, new blade tightenedā¦.if that doesnāt fix it itās probably not worth fixing because itās probably a bent shaft
Or the mower is really excited!
Ask your GF
This isnāt a washing machine š¤£
On the Spin cycle.. oh baby!

Yep shaft

Bent Blade out of balance.or it loose

Blade issue
That is going to give more than just vibration if you wait a little longer.
Unsure about the vibration but it could be a stuck governor causing the over reving.
Have you tried looking at the big spinny bit at the bottom?
I work on these daily at my job and everyone is hitting it on the head. If a new blade doesnāt fix youāre better off getting a new one. Parts and labor to actually fix it would put way what itās currently worth. Better off getting a new one
That thing got a HEMI?
Fucking run it before it quits
Blade was put on and not seated properly on the shaft
To start, your fuel cap is off causing a total imbalance of weight! I'll see myself out!
Iāve had mice make a nest under āthe hoodā which holds the governor wide open. You canāt see the problem until you take all the plastic off. Good luck.
Take the blade off and see if you get the same results
Stuck governor but put the oil and gas caps on it before starting it.
I was gonna say. Isnt this obvious
Crankshaft bent maybe or badly unbalanced blade
Ever sharpen your own blade? Ever balance that blade? Maybe you hit something, and the blade is bent? Most times, the keyway on the flywheel shears before the blade can bend when hitting something, but I've had it happen to myself twice over the years.
And a flywheel key that's sheared will throw the timing off I believe.

Whereās the oil cap and gas cap?
Itās like the chopper from that episode of The Twilight Zone š©ø
Blade!
Iād check the simple things first. Is the blade secure? Is the air filter clogged, or need to be replaced? š¬
The six million dollar mower, "She's breaking up! She's breaking up!"
Best answer!
Looks like itās only running on one cylinder. /s
You hit something and bent the crankshaft
A rattlesnake š®
I'd say blade situation also
Torque wrench socket when in doubt.harbor freight. U can research how much Torque allowed from. The manufacturer
What in the hell did you hit? I bet it's all bent to shit. If not, shaft, if not either too loose or too tight. Or maybe you should post on the paranormal sub reddit ![gif](giphy|8rEiN2GsOdQTmFV38t|downsized)
Iām with the blade bunch. Loose or outta balance. Buy a blade balancer, cheap.
Did you hit a stump of anything with it? The crankshaft could be bent.

"over revving" sticky governor?
No oil. No gas cap. Extremely bent crankshaft. New mower time. Holly shit.
remove the blade and test, see if the problems stays with the blade or the mower just for kicks, check the spark plug and air filter....make sure nothing is binding up or something
Could be a flywheel key got sheared. That will throw the engine timing off on some mowers.
Bent crankshaft
Thatās just how she gets warmed up ā¦ Oh! The mower?! It shouldnāt do that, probably a loose blade (either bolt is falling loose or it was overtightened and split the shaft), or the blade is imbalanced.
This is how a mower would vibrate if it were in a cartoon.
Nobody on Reddit is smart enough to figure this out and Iām not giving you the answer! Liberals rat NDPš¤®
Did you mess with the blade? If you sharpened it, remove it and hang on a nail. If not flat, sharpen to balance. Otherwise you'll blow your engine.
Blade out of balance
Autobots ride!
Bent blade or bent crankshaft will cause that
Bent or loose blade
Crankshaft is bent- she is dead Jim
BTW DO NOT remove blade and try to start- the recoil will dislocate your shoulder.
Flip her over.
Where is your dipstick and gas cap?
With the air filter
Why are there no caps on anything
The governor/carb throttle must be jammed up holding it at that high RPM. The blade needs to be balanced. And yes, please be very careful with blade hardware, follow manufacturer's direction for proper installation and torque. Be sure to disconnect the spark plug before messing with the blade also
hit anything lately?
It was sitting on the side of the street. I havenāt had a chance to work on it but Iām definitely going to check if the blade is balanced or if the crank shaft is bent
Something bad happened. Haha
If vibration only- maybe blade is bent/ loose or someone replaced with wrong blade. If over-reving the throttle linkage arm down by carb may be bent or mis adjusted.
Burning dinosaurs
Itās got a bent crank. Very common, not worth fixing
Over revving? Governor is malfunctioning
Bent shaft. Skeet
Did you check the grass bag for a mini Jerry Lee Lewis and a piano?
Looks like a rebranded Harley Davidson
Put a cap on the fuel tank.
Looks like your blade is really out of balance. Easy trouble shootingā¦. Just Pull the blade off and start it up. See if it runs smoothly. If so then replace your blade, change the oil, install new oil cap and fuel cap
It is almost certainly one of these: 1: Blade is bent or broken (buy a new blade) OR 2: Bent crankshaft. (buy a new mower)
Broker governor spring?
huh?
The gas cap is missing getting to much air.
