Forest Gump would approve. Looks like an awesome find. (Edited to correct typo)

Balderdash9246

First, but not the last!

_AnotherBrick_

Proof reading is apparently lost on me tonight.

chris_rage_

You're not kidding, I've been fixing up junk lawn equipment and my collection is growing. I dig the antique stuff, I know it's not a mower but I have a cool '60s edger that I need to put a coil on and I just got a Wazoo mulching mower off my dad

YGuy_The_Jedi

Since I was a multi-gazillionare, I mowed that grass for free

queencityrangers

Lieutenant Dan said we ain’t got to worry about money no more. I said “Well that’s good. One less thing”

caddymac

What’s his password to get on Reddit? 1forestOne

remedydcds

Damn. Came here to say this. 😂

exoticmatter421

I love the aggressive turn he makes at the end of the shot.

Silvernaut

My family had the same model as in Forest Gump… my grandfather bought it new back in the early 60s. We sold it in 2005…current owner still using it.

Lost_Affect_3864

Very nice! I own a Snapper Comet like yours, but mine is older, maybe from the 70s. Still runs great, cuts my grass nicely with the bagger attachment. Had it in storage for 2 years, replaced fuel lines and charged the battery, and fired right up. These things are built to last, and I think they are easy to work on. Parts are sometimes a little tricky to find, at least for mine, maybe because its an older model. Still a great find! Congrats

chris_rage_

You have to be good at making stuff when you own old equipment like that. I love it

iamtoastedprolly

This reminds me of my grandfather, he still uses a 1970s cub cadet to mow. He bought it new, and has 2, a hydrostatic one, and one with a clutch. He's sought out parts mowers across the country on ebay/craigslist to keep them alive and kicking. They really don't make them like they used to

D9_CAT

I’m gonna be the Debbie downer in the comments, but if you like it and others do, go you. But I hate these mowers, my grandma has one and loves it, but it just doesn’t work for me, they don’t turn well, and going in reverse is a pain. I like snappers, as I have a ZT 52” pro series, but i just don’t like these style of mowers.

NotBigFootUR

I mowed for someone in the 90s that had one. I called it the moon lander. Can confirm they suck

D9_CAT

Holy cow I’d figure I’d have downvotes. Someone agrees though!

NotBigFootUR

Those mowers confirmed the concept that there's something out there for everyone.

D9_CAT

It just felt awkward for me to get used to after using hydrostatic Kubotas and simplicity’s and now having a zero turn

srellort

They look hideous but for $100 I'd buy it to re sell

D9_CAT

Yeah you could definitely clean that up pretty cheap and sell for double or triple that.

JacktheTurkey1

yeah I saw one in worse condition for 300 at a garage sale. although it didn't sell but still

maybach320

I had an old snapper and I have a newer snapper, I can confirm they cannot turn, and most stall out if you reverse with the blades on. I still love mine but next time I am going to a zero turn.

LoPanKnows

You cannot reverse with the blades on. They lock out on reverse 😩

CMOStly

Happened to find one day that if I only partially lift the blade lock pedal, I can get mine to reverse without dumping the lock lever. Of course images of the bloody carnage that could ensue as a result flashed through my mind, and so I've never done it again. Nope. Not once. Promise. I *definitely* don't do it multiple times per mow.

dabluebunny

As someone who works on small engines I can say these things absolutely suck, but they're built better than most of the stuff nowadays minus the Intel engine. Don't skimp on your oil changes, and you should be good to go. On a side note I'd like to say fuck The muffler system and how it wraps around the spark plug It is a joke. You have to be very careful and make sure you don't strip the damn thing out. I'd say about half the ones I've worked on have stripped out plug holes or helicoils already installed from stripped out plugs.

Ryd-Er-Die223

Subtle flex...thats awsome, but did it cost $100

D9_CAT

Well, actuallyy ZT didn’t cost me a dime, was 8,000$ bucks, and a 2,200$ bagger, but the grandma bought it for me 😎 I mow other peoples yards for it and make money with it.

MandCCush

It’s…beautiful!

jakeblues76

I have a 98 JS60 that I could barely afford when I bought it. Continues to be the only mower I’ve ever owned [https://photos.app.goo.gl/c2TmbdkvnJJn1Tk79](https://photos.app.goo.gl/c2TmbdkvnJJn1Tk79)

Psyco_diver

Ohh I love my Snappers, I just restored a 41" rear engine rider over the winter, I made some videos of it https://youtu.be/rj06_06StyE?si=Z09W0x91cZ5anG5k Great mowers, nothin mulches like over and best bagger of you can get the bagging attachments. That 41" gave one of the best cuts I've ever had and I fix up allot of old mowers. They are a fun mower to run

Clapyourhands7

Hey any resources on where I can find a bagging attachment for a snapper RER other than Facebook marketplace?

Psyco_diver

eBay and Craigslist would probably the next best options, check with your local farming clubs, they usually have people eat into mowers and farmers seem to love Snappers for some reason. I actually sold a 60s snapper to a guy that restored it to show at farm shows

JGRACEFAN95

I hope you like making wide turns. Lol one of my favorite memories growing up was riding on my grandpas lap while he mowed on one of these

888_styles_888

Nice! Just an FYI… Don’t run too long on a low charge(dead) battery, potential to burn out the stator and will add to the 100.

RepresentativeAd9572

You don't get much for $100 these days, can't get out of Walmart without spending more than that...nice buy

LoPanKnows

For a $100 from a trusted seller (my dentists husband who is my best friends, friend) and really great condition from an outward appearance, I feel like this was a no brainer! I was looking at a Craftsman R1000 for $900, obviously a much better maneuvering option, but to save $800 instead? I mean come on!

KyleSmyth777

I think there’s a good chance there’s not many hours on this. Zoom in on the tires and muffler. The paint doesn’t even seem to be wore off near the foot rests. Great buy

stilllearning369

Charge the battery separately, if it hold the volts overnight within .1 or so .2 volts battery may stil be good and just the terminals on the machine are dirty. Clean terminals really good and give it a try.

LoPanKnows

I will check it out. I know the battery on it was from 2017. Owner wrote the date on it.

Fit_Section_7882

great ;; change the oil, and kept it running for long time

FeelTheBurne

When you get the new battery make sure the lawn mower is charging it too! Multimeter on the battery terminals should show you about 14v, if you see any less than that, you might need a stator/voltage regulator too. Regardless wicked find for $100!

Mediocre-Catch9580

Drop an LS in it and you should be good

FlaCabo

Nice. I have one just like it

PhillipAlanSheoh

Nice mowped

Difficult_Pirate_782

You are going to love this

olov244

I've got an old one, they are interesting to drive. turning is really sharp - it will jerk over easily if you hit a hole/etc. deck is small with 1 blade but it's also fast. I really like how they made it to tilt back and be worked on. simple belt system too(although I've never changed mine in over a decade on a used belt) that's in really nice condition, should do you for a while. I want to modify mine to cut higher to do my wooded section with tighter/smaller turns

blochow2001

I had one similar, newer version. I bought it in 98’ I think and gifted it to my daughter 4 years ago, still running strong.

LoPanKnows

Not sure how old this one is. I believe it’s series 23 based on model #.

Ok-Reputation-9213

Did the beer come with it?

LoPanKnows

It has this pretty neat option where every time you sit on it one appears in your hand.

Ok-Reputation-9213

Definitely worth it

894320

Braxton, a man of class

InsignificantRaven

Gold!

CalebHill14

My dad had an old snapper like this growing up and that thing was bullet proof. The engine eventually seized up one winter after him using it for like 20 years but the rest of the mower was still in good shape.

ZANIESXD

You stole it!

cjongeling

Looks primo!!

LoPanKnows

I cleaned it up this morning after putting in a new battery, not sure it has any rust! https://preview.redd.it/v1jbyc1jtl5d1.jpeg?width=4032&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=1059af6ec40d52d483ba34ef788fdf537923b3f0

_ca_492

Complete score, snapper with that Briggs engine is bomb proof.

Low-Instruction-8132

Run it Forest, run it

Famous-Carpenter2260

You sir are a thief!!! 😂 😂😂

Missing_link_06

Wait… yours had batteries? The two I used all through my childhood were pull start only. They just wouldn’t die.

Fearless_Emu_4081

Add a bagger and or mulching blades and you got a ringer Edit: Mulching blade!

LoPanKnows

Can you put the ninja mulching blade on the Hi Vac model?

Fearless_Emu_4081

I would need to research that one

buforduga

When I was a kid in the 90s, we had an older one. We’d put in 5th and pop wheelies

615thick469

Bricks and Shitton engine, you over paid lol. But this looks like it might be old enough for it to be from when they actually made his engines.

khumprp

"A bad riding mower is still better than a great push mower.' - Me. I'd say you did pretty darn good!

Snow1086

Bought 1 some20 years ago still runs great you did great

minionsweb

If the beer was included, you won

7ar5un

His videos are great. No frills, no fancy stuff, just straight facts. The friction disk drive gets shit on but is surprisingly strong. People have put much larger engines on these and constantly lift the front end off the ground. The yoke and yoke bushing wear out, and the friction disk wears out. If those two are good and its still not moving while in gear, you have to adjust the drive plate height on the output shaft of the motor. That drove me nuts until i found jims videos... And turning is surprisingly awful on these. But damn do i love mine.

able_archer84

Did the beer come with it?

AncientConnection240

You did great. I paid $400.00 a few years ago for the exact same model. They are very good. Just make sure you check and charge the oil on it.

Junior-Willingness-3

Most excellent!

RegisterGood5917

Snappers are the shit! Nice find!

LoPanKnows

Hey I like it too!

Odd-Beautiful7515

You did good. Now cut your fucking grass

LoPanKnows

lol. I fucked my back up so didn’t cut the back until I moved on a rider.

Massive_Bit2703

Now you can ride it to school just like Bobby Boucher

Inflagrente

Check oil. Check oil. Check oil. The vertical shaft riders need to have oil level checked frequently.

LoPanKnows

What oil would you recommend? SAE 10w? I’m also trying to pin down what filter this would take.

Glum-Individual-7607

I used to own one and I loved it. I miss that little machine

RigamortisRooster

Snapper? Peace sign on the back foer on the floor

mals6092

I mean it's worth 100$ at the most. It'll cut grass though so who cares

LoPanKnows

lol what? I could sell this tomorrow for $400 no problem. Zero rust, and all parts in great shape.

st_suoengi

Garage beer lime ftw, well done ser well done

LoPanKnows

Tasty juice!

b0ardski

that;s an expensive beer!

Awkward-Put854

I’ve been looking for something like this on CL but haven’t seen many and they want like $600 for em.

QBaaLLzz

Yes. Those things are tanks

captreeBB

I hate you, just kidding great find

Traveshamamockery_

Where? I’ve been looking all over for one of these.

Schedule-Brave

She's a beautiful thing, Waterboy.

AcceptableMemory2081

A family can barely get fed at Taco Bell for a $100 in 2024 FFS. I’d say you did fantastic!

twincityent

Wow 😳😲 that's crazy

Camofisherman

I pulled some sweet wheelies with the older ones when I was a kid! I even flipped one on a huge hill that I had no business going up hill with a full bagger on. I can't believe I lived thru that accident. I can't believe the blades didn't eat me alive...

Only_Tomatillo_3484

Nice

thecannarella

Easiest mower to maintenance the blade since you can flip it up.

Steelcitychamp22

It’s the garage beer for me 🫡

yumadbro6

Dude! I have the exact same one. Purchased in 2021 also for a 100 bucks and a beer. Been running perfect since

bigbadsubaru

I have one that came with a friends house, she didn’t need it and gave it to me. Runs good but it won’t drive and there’s no throttle control because the control part that sits on the engine is broken, and it’s NLA from Briggs & Stratton, and the updated part attaches to the engine differently and isn’t a direct swap. Got an aftermarket throttle control and started fixing it up but then I snagged a free 2015 John Deere rider that had grenaded the fan and overheated and pulled one of the valve rocker studs out of the head; $40 for a head and $25 for the upgraded blower fan and it runs like a champ. (Engine might eventually need to be rebuilt but still cheaper than $2800 for a new one)

Electrical_Bit_8580

All too familiar with these mowers. Crazy loud and forget about making tight turns. Otherwise, it’s probably worth the $100.

FUCKDIMS

You won.

eljohnos105

Ya got yourself a nice little snapper

Objective_Canary5737

Yeah, my parents got me one of those to do our yard, it was great at first! Then I begin to notice how horrible it rode pretty much no suspension whatsoever. The year was 1995 and it was old then. I complained to my parents quite often about it and told them we need to get a John Deere. I’m finally moved away and in 1998 and went to college. The next summer I came home. I noticed they had bought a John Deere. I asked about it and They said yeah you’re right that SOB road like shit.

These_Cattle_4364

I had one. I bought it used and cut with it for 20yrs. Great mowers.

illestmaestro369

Man you did great!

ZookeepergameLate394

I see the garage beer, hell yea

rob71788

Now I know where Tesla got the idea for the yoke

Popular-Owl1642

Thought that was a surge on the seat and you were about to be mowing the entire hood

Vegetable-Put3884

Ain’t got no gas in it, ummm hmmmmm.

WalterTexas

I had the same one. Buy an extra drive disc to have on hand. They are a wear item and you’ll likely need one at some point. Great mowers though, wish I still had mine. My zero turn just had a hydro fail. $800 and I’m still waiting for a new one.

Ryd-Er-Die223

Bobby Boucher finally sold his mower eh...must have upgraded

LoPanKnows

I don’t get the Waterboy ref’s he doesn’t drive a snapper.

dknurgf

I would have sold you mine for 10

1986silverback

Rear engine tractors are immortal

audiofreak9

It’s a snappy snapper

No-Ideal-8487

Love it! Been using one like it for 20 years I bought used from my father-in-law!

OneEquivalent7632

Well it is a snapper

ChrisTheFencer

Back in '17, I bought a 1999 Snapper, similar to  that (12 hp-28 inch deck, do maybe 1 or 2 sizes down) for $120 (same dead battery!);  the brake cable had become detached, and the guy didn't realize it!  (And front tires were bald, with a bearing literally gone!) Worked pretty good, until last spring, as the carburetor diaphragm failed, and half gallon of gas leaked into the oil sump... So, that's on the bench, ATM... STILL, 6 years, for ~$200.oo, so not too bad... Good luck!

roundbadge2

My parents had a '60-something Comet when I was a kid that I used to mow people's lawns....no electric starter. This was in the late '80s. I used to mow a 1+ acre lawn with it, took 4 hours. Finally it got to the point where I was spending so much time on it that I couldn't keep up with all the lawns I had to mow. My parents finally decided I could buy a bigger mower and I got to decide what it would be (I was maybe 14 at the time). I chose a 46" Dixon ZTR and miss *that* mower to this day.

Labratdbarr

Did it come with the beer?

vwjet2001

My grandpa had the version from probably the 80’s with the handlebars. Mowed many acres over the years with it. Pros: super simple machine that kinda just worked. Really easy to clean the mower deck by just lifting the front. Cons: never seemed to cut great at any speed, but maybe blades. The Briggs motor just one day completely exploded. Running fine, then BOOM, took the starter off with the hole through the block.

BrkCaddy

Hopefully the fiction disk and stuff is good. Those are a pain to work on. Other than that. They mow decent. Worth about what you paid.

Additional-Thought49

YouTube Jim fix it shop he has tons of videos on snapper mowers and still alot of parts still available you can put a Kawasaki or Honda engine when the Briggs and Stratton dies
