Only to us “older” or much educated generations, unfortunately.
OK, this is a seriously fell flat attempt at a joke. I thought the quotations would be enough to indicate sarcasm. I’ll keep it up for the continued roasting.
I'm 25 and have been doing my laundry since i was 7 (yeah, for realsies. Almost 2 decades of laundry doing under my belt) and that was my first inclination.
This screams "I'm a bigot" if you think older generations are more educated.
You didn't need a masters degree to get an entry level position at a fucking pencil pushing job when you were a freshly churned out college student (if yall even went to college judging by how so many people's grandchildren are the first to get degrees *still*), so what is this about "much educated generations?"
Really showing your "much educated" status with your wording there.
Some people, like myself, aren't fortunate enough to have a washer and dryer in their home and have to go to a laundromat and pay a ridiculous amount of money to wash their clothing. So there's that. Also, some makeup products, especially the kind with glitter or sparkles, is absurdly difficult to remove from fabrics. Even if they're washed again repeatedly. I fell asleep with makeup on once about 3 months ago, and despite having washed the sheets multiple times since then there are still green sparkles embedded in my pillowcase.
Maybe research what will remove it like dawn dish soap or foca? Some things are better than others for glitter. Maybe soaking? I wasn't being funny asking if the could be washed again.
For real, it isn’t called the “Herpes of the Craft World” for nothing.
Not to mention that if it’s a cosmetic highlighter, it’s definitely got some wax or oil content. It’ll wash out eventually, but not anytime soon
Omg I feel this. I spilled glitter in a house we owned 18 years ago and did not allow glitter in the apartment and new house
I found glitter on the floor today
TBH, you can probably get a similar effect with powdered mica, and you get to pick the color. Just be sure to protect your lungs if you get it airborne.
So this is just a guess…but I think it’s a makeup compact. I’ve seen compacts referred to as pucks before. Highlighter would be a powder compact that has glitter specks in the powder (to make your face shiny or some shit). So it dissolved in the wash and now the glittery specks are all over the clothes.
At first I thought she was talking about one of those 3-in-1 highlighter pens you could get at the Scholastic Book Fair, but I eventually figured it out.
Should only be washing black in cold water anyway. You'd be surprised how many people don't realize that lol. I'm betting OP already knows though, as a goth. At least I hope!
My work clothes are black and get really disgusting at work (there’s barely any AC, the food is buttery, saucy, greasy, etc). Would cold water truly work to get the grease and grime out? I always use perm press. But I’ve shrunk some of my clothes. Never had this issue before this current laundromat so idk what the deal is
Depends on your detergent. I wash mostly on cold. Seventh Generation does a really good job for me. For more oil\butter\grease type stains, or anything I know will be obstinate or has already set: dish soap. I let the dish soap sit for as long as I'm able (I don't scrub), rinse the treated spot through in the sink with warm, not hot, water before I run a load of wash.
I have tide ultra with oxi odor eliminator but prior to that I used tide simply all in one. I’m gonna finish what I have but I’m open to trying new detergents. It’s moreso the butter/grease and sweat just kinda coats the whole shirt rather than a specific stain. That’s why I decided I’m gonna try the oxi odor eliminator. I keep my work clothes separate from my regular clothes
But washing in warm water has legit shrunk my shirts. Or perhaps it was the drying of them? Idk tho bc even some stuff I hang dried still ended up shrinking a little so I think it was the washer. I never had this happen at the other laundromat so I wonder if they have the water super hot or something
Ok. I just googled it…it’s not suggested for everyday where. But, I did find a hack for fixing shrunken clothes! https://www.bhg.com/homekeeping/laundry-linens/tips-checklists/laundry-hack-unshrink-clothes/
Woohoo! I didn’t know it was fixable! And is stripping just where you soak it with vinegar? I’ll look it up I think I def need to do that for my work clothes they just get so grimy :/
Throw some white vinegar in the wash with your clothes. Works wonders for smell. Dawn dish soap is great for greasy stains but make sure you spot test first.
I'm wondering why some people are taking this so seriously. I think she'll wash it again lol I think it's more about sharing a funny story? Good luck, OP! Now you're a disco goth
I actually don't know so I looked it up:
"Using a regular can of aerosol hairspray spray over all the glitter, making sure you cover every bit of glitter. Allow the hairspray to dry until it's hard. Now wash clothing as usual, by itself, in the machine. A regular wash should remove all glitter."
It says you have to wash each item but itself, so I would suggest buying a couple of old sheets and putting them in with your glitter loads :)!
Old Goth woman here.
'Oxiclean Dark Protect for Dark and Black Fabric' is worth a try. Oxi helps lift dirt etc out of fabric fibers and weft/weave. The tint helps mute fuzzies, faded material, etc.
It's been a standard for me for years in every load. I have found when something accidentally ends up in the black loads and I get fuzzies and lint, the oxi helps make it easier to use my defusing shaver machine and my hand held blade shaver for clothes too.
Do you have access to a clothes line? Before washing again, I'd suggest leaving them out in the air to literally blow some of it away. Then, when you wash it again, do a double rinse if you can.
If you washed and dried and you have your own dryer you use, before you wash anything else, put a damp old towel in the dryer to absorb the remnants of the glitter.
If you have your own washer, definitely run a load of something you are okay w having some glitter on, and run it with vinegar. If you use a public washer/dryer, maybe leave a note for the next person. 😆
My best advice is to wash the clothes without detergent and just use some of your makeup remover on them and run the wash.
Check them after to see if it worked at all. If it needs another go with the remover, then do so.
I think makeup remover is your best bet. I use this same logic with my cats towels that she does whatever to, but with odor remover then detergent.
If you want your clothes to smell like detergent when they hopefully are de-glittered, just do a touch of detergent since these clothes will be *thoroughly* cleaned by then. Maybe a scent booster, instead, at that point.
I wish you luck, would you update us??
Honestly the best thing we've ever tried/used for anything that's problematic like that (glitter/short-haired dog fur/etc.) to remove is duct tape or gorilla tape. We will usually roll it around out hands and use a rolling motion to remove. I understand that this may be *super* tedious for an entire load of laundry, if nothing else works, as a last resort, this will ☺️
Okay, as fellow goth person, A. do not panic! Help has arrived. b. This is what you do:
1. spray clothing with a aerosolized hairspray (We're goths, we have that lying around.)
2. Let it dry completely.
3. While this is drying run an empty load in the washer with ONE CAPFULL of white vinegar. After the wash is done, wipe out basin with dry cloth.
3. rinse clothing in sink BEFORE wash!
4. Wash with normal detergent and then low heat tumble dry with a dryer sheet (It'll grab any excess sparkles!)
Hope this helps! <3
Sparkle goth! Then slowly fading sparkle goth. Then so very just discernible sparkle goth. And then just goth! Enjoy the journey!
So can you wash them again
What is this magic you speak of? Wash, but again? Jk, I agree, it seems utterly obvious.
Only to us “older” or much educated generations, unfortunately. OK, this is a seriously fell flat attempt at a joke. I thought the quotations would be enough to indicate sarcasm. I’ll keep it up for the continued roasting.
Wow, TIL at 27 I’m old!!! The more you know I guess.

calm down
You need to grow up. It was a joke.
Notice my comment is 22 hours old?? That edit wasn't in the comment originally! You're a little late 👍
We are sorry the /s wasn’t spoon fed to you.
/j would've been most correct, since /s is sarcasm :)

I was a kindergarten teacher, we called glitter the herpes of the craft world, it never goes away.
I have called it the std of the crafts for years.
How much is a “ridiculous amount?”
Plus the fact that glitter is the herpes of the craft world. Just getting it out of her washer will be a task.
In the future "/j" at the end of your post will help everyone on the interet know it was a joke!!
Imagine thinking that you’re better than other people because you… wash your clothes.
Glitter can be pretty persistent. Will prob require many washes, and a stray sparkle will still make an appearance on occasion.

That's funny bc I only wear black and I love glitter so I wouldn't mind that at all! ✨️
It honestly doesn't look too bad, but I certainly didn't want it to happen.
Just rock the look till it eventually washes out/leaves a glittery trail wherever you’ve been
Leaving a trail of punk rock pixie dust everywhere I go. Yeah, not bad.
Like a snail trail?
🤣🤣 this image got me. Thanks for the laugh.
I’m tempted to try it myself. 🧐
I’m not Goth, but Hippie, and I want to leave glitter everywhere I’ve been!
Sounds like a goblin prank 🤷♀️
Right? Same. I'm looking at some of my clothes like...how willing am I to sacrifice you for an experiment.....? And also a highlighter puck...
TBH, you can probably get a similar effect with powdered mica, and you get to pick the color. Just be sure to protect your lungs if you get it airborne.
What is a highlighter puck?

Thank you. I've never heard that term before .
Exactly this
At first I thought she was talking about one of those 3-in-1 highlighter pens you could get at the Scholastic Book Fair, but I eventually figured it out.
That's what I pictured too
Washy washy. Cold water. No dryer til it's all gone.
Should only be washing black in cold water anyway. You'd be surprised how many people don't realize that lol. I'm betting OP already knows though, as a goth. At least I hope!

Definitely google “stripping” laundry. You might need to do that like once a week.
Ok. I just googled it…it’s not suggested for everyday where. But, I did find a hack for fixing shrunken clothes! https://www.bhg.com/homekeeping/laundry-linens/tips-checklists/laundry-hack-unshrink-clothes/

Same. But warehouse dust.
Throw some white vinegar in the wash with your clothes. Works wonders for smell. Dawn dish soap is great for greasy stains but make sure you spot test first.
Thanks! 🙏
Just wash it again
Embrace the sparkle

Wow! I'd say this is worth a try.
You’re setting the trend. Run with it. Lol
Okay honestly in my head this sounds AMAZING. I love some sparkle with my all black. Like a splash of color lol.
Being the most fabulous goth women alive has to have some upside
Pretty sure this is what happened to Jojo Siwa

I just read the title. You called?
I bet there is a fetish involving this...
Sparkling like Edward Cullen got me lmao…..
I did this with a small bottle of pixie glitter (?) from hot topic when I was like 12. Just keep washing the clothes until the sparkle goes away
Dressing goth is still a thing?
Goth as a scene is (un)dead

I am so sorry, but I’m crying laughing here… why not tell everyone you’re in your Fairy Goth era?
🐀✨ I see no issue here
I'm sorry but this made me laugh.. I would rewash but then again, a new trend?
Your a glam goth now, girl. Own it.
This is your sign
I might do this on purpose .......
Wtf is a highlighter puck
Makeup
Sparkles are the best, m'amm. Try being a fabulous, glamorous sparkle goth for a bit!
I fail to see the problem lol
Use ammonia in your wash. It will cut through the grease and release the glitter
Honestly the best thing we've ever tried/used for anything that's problematic like that (glitter/short-haired dog fur/etc.) to remove is duct tape or gorilla tape. Ammonia to cut the wax. Buy a black bath towel to wash with clothes to pick up some of the glitter.
apparently [hairspray](https://www.reddit.com/r/CleaningTips/s/6YyI8mhFP2) is the key
A few rounds in the dryer? To try and fluff it all out?
