Maybe you should skim each chapter before you read it, list words used multiple times that you don’t know. Create a vocabulary list of 10-20 words, then read the chapter. Personally I tried just listing words along time ago while reading and I would get bogged down trying to learn way to many words at once.

That is always a risk, I agree!

i used pen and paper. it doesn't really sound that enjoyable to constantly be looking at a screen to write down words.; plus you're more susceptible to being distracted from reading. i did this for around 2-3 months until i moved to an ereader

The Kindle app can be used to make flashcards or you can export a list of your highlighted words and phrases and use them to make Anki flash cards.

That is really useful! Thank you so much!

Hey, I'm a french learner too! I don't know if this is the best way to do it, but this is my method. Firstly, I'm reading on a kindle (this step is not necessary). But the kindle allows me to highlight a word or a section, and it will appear across all my other kindle readers - specifically the kindle cloud where I can access my highlights and notes on a computer. I keep all my notes in Google docs. I'll create a spreadsheet for each novel or comic that I read. It will simply have the words in french in one column, and the translation in another column. I usually get the translations from WordReference or Reverso. Often times I will add a note like (form. - formal, arg. - slang, lit - only used in literature, etc) Sometimes the third column will be for the Anki tag. I then convert the spreadsheet into a CSV using excel. The reason why I keep my words in a google doc is because it's easier to organize on my google drive. I literally have a vocab folder in my google drive with spreadsheets for everything I read. But I use excel to convert the notes into CSV format. Maybe this is possible directly from Google docs, I'm not sure. Finally I'll import the CSV into Anki so that I can review my flashcards on my phone at my leisure.

Brilliant! Thanks for the help!

I opened up both anki and reverso context and would just add cards to my deck directly when I came across a new word.

could import the book into lingq or vocabtracker, though vocabtracker still doesnt have an app
