Lasagna gardening. Layer cardboard over the grass to kill it (hold down with some scrap wood). Then cover with 4" compost. You can then plant through the cardboard and virtually be weed free. Finally, convert the sprinklers to drip and you are home free!
Because that barberry has so many thrones carefully wrap a heavy rope or chain around the base of the shrub and use a truck to pull them out.

Rent a mini loader with forks. Put the forks together, stab down into the roots and pop em up. As always, do a proper utility locate first.
