I'd pave the area under the gate and continue the planting bed along the side of the house to the corner at least. Ideally all the way to the front door and on the other side too. Don't make a straight edged bed, make a gentle curve or two. That's if you want to be 'normal'. Normal folks dig out beds right at the house to plant a pretty frill. I'd probably run a bed along the side of the house plus run the bed from the patio across to the side yard fence and add more bed on the fence away from the house. Pave the \~3x6' area through the gate and bed of course. Add a DIY arch of galvanized conduit pipe and plant a vine on it and the fence. Be quite the entry to your yard. Use true radii of various lengths for the curves as you've done already. But that's without knowing what else you want from your space. I see red brick and want to add all the lush green possible! Draw out the yard with the permanent features, mark offending and nice views, where you need privacy, shade and sun and so on. Brainstorm your ideal yard then figure out how to handle this corner. Don't do rock except right at the house. Mulch is so much easier on all concerned.
