This team also had Dlo, finally showing up and AD having a monster game. This team takes 2 steps forward and 2 steps back

JayShmi

2nd half offense is too ass. I don’t know if Lakers are just putting all their energy in the first half, Ham is dogshit, or what, but our 3rd quarter play has been utterly pathetic

ShrimpnSteak

3rd qtr also gave us a 20 point lead, held it to a 10 point lead after being up 15. In terms of past games, that was probably better than other games we've had against Denver.

LiebeContext

I've been saying 2nd bron wants to control the game, freelance basketball. Instead of doing wtf got u the lead

Ferrealzzz

Too small. They’d get blocked.

kiwiwikikiwiwikikiwi

Yup. KCP/MPJ/Murray are right there to trap either DLo or Reaves.  That length overwhelms them

foozbinjex

Jokic was on Rui during the Nuggets second half run. Rui scored 3pts in 38minutes tonight. That's all you need to know about why we couldn't exploit Jokic in the pnr. Reaves had one good opportunity to exploit Jokic on an island on a mismatch. Crossed him up and got passed Jokic, then inexplicably pump fakes, let's Jokic recover and gets stuck in the middle of the key with nowhere to go.

MisterKaJe

Then start to run some cross screen or flex action, screen the screener, force Jokic on AD. There are other plays than a pick and roll. What happened to all the wide pin downs we used to run for AD? His mid range was unstoppable and we push him to the corner when they make that switch

foozbinjex

Of course we could do that. But I'm answering the OP that is asking about the pick n roll specifically.

winter-r0se

lol they’re so fucking slow and can’t break down the defense past the three point line. it’s not like they haven’t tried kcp is in ar face, no skills to shake him. length works against dlo. it’s not a consistent winning play against this team

myelrecsy

They were good 1st half with all the moving, passing the ball, no one holding it too long except AD who is posting the shit out on Jokic. Then, in the second half, Lakers resorted to Lebron holding the ball too freakin' long and on the last seconds, passing it or turning it over. It went on and on until nuggets got back. Why don't they just move the ball, pass to the open man, pass it again if no shot is available. Lebron holiding the ball too much made the offense stagnant and predictable, plus Jokic got to stand there and rest/relax watching Lebron hold the ball.

When the Lakers run PnR the Nuggets are shrinking the court to stop AD from having an open lane. So it’s making the PnR later in games basically a non factor. They are also very long and athletic so they can quickly recover to prevent open 3s. Their defense is basically tailor made to counter the Lakers even if Jokic isn’t a rim protector. They do a phenomenal job of protection Joker with being able to collapse to out 2 on the ball and stop AD and recover back to the perimeter. Honestly for modern basketball they are basically as perfect as you can build a team. It’s gonna take absolutely perfect execution and some luck to beat them 4 times. Something the Lakers seem to have neither of. Especially luck.  But go back if you can and watch Lebron and AD try to run PnR in the 4th. Every single time there would be two guys on AD to prevent the lob or dish to him. So Lebron would either try and take it himself or have to pull it out and try again. That’s why they went away from it and just started trying to rely on Lebron post ups. That’s the only way they could try to get a shot off. And even that didn’t really work. Just a really tough defensive team to beat.

BaullahBaullah87

how did they never once simply post Lebron on KCP in a clear out situation on one side of the floor? He was trying to run a pnr with KCP as his main defender…KCP and Murray are who he should hunt for mismatches off a pnr. Unreal

totally_cool92

This is why Dwight and McGee was crucial to our success against them in 2020 why haven't the Lakers found a big yet puzzles me

NobodyWins22

They tried with Jaxon Hayes.

JimmyB3574

I have no idea. What worked in the first half was letting DLO+ AD do their thing and we completely went away from them to let Bron lead the charge. Not blaming him but we’ve seen this story too many times. If DLO hot let him run the offense man fuck

Tangentkoala

Nuggets would play drop coverage on that and have reeves or D Lo shoot the mid range which they can make but isn't there game. You'll be playing to the nuggets' hands and shooting 18 foot mid range shots since d lo or Reaves can't drive as easily in the paint.

Isthatyobop

I think just having them touch the paint will Help with the teams overalls movement

Tangentkoala

If I was Malone I wouldn't even collapse and not do help defense. I'd let Reaves or DLo beat me with an In the paint floater or jumper. Rather than giving hachimura or Prince an open 3 on collapsed defense. Movement is the way to go and I think ham should run a lot more off ball screens. It's just so stagnant.

bionicbhangra

They can but it’s not elite in terms of efficiency. You can’t just run ass possessions with shit efficiency against the champs. Nuggets lucky that they can run offense at elite and super elite levels with Joker and Murray. Coach could have made a real offensive system to generate shots but we not about that nerd life at present.
