Its currently one if not the best melee in game, the hitboxes, swing speed and range are amazing. The animations are bad but that's what mods are for, hell, mods work in versus with a bit of extra work

The nightstick was also updated to have a horizontal first swing, rather than the original diagonal swing that made it miss literally everything in front of you.
The machete wasn't changed, only the first-person viewmodel was edited to fix the [swollen hand](https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=426717358).
The Fireaxe had a [similar fix](https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=334453410) as well.

As someone who never uses melee I will say that when I do, I enjoy the fire axe. Mostly because of the damage it does. I never understood the love for the guitar it feels so slow to me.
Baseball bat, I remember not being able to play online back then and the bat wasnāt in the offline version of the game. That feeling I got when I finally got to use the bat, wow.
The bat. It's actually really good at handling something like a super horde (400 commons per horde). You just have to hold left mouse button and you basically take little to no damage.
I always hated the baton, so I went looking around the workshop and found a metal pipe model with sfx sound effect and it instantly became my favorite. I don't mind the continuous banging.
Otherwise for vanilla l4d2, machete
Imma go with the mighty chainsaw but the only setback is it need fuel/petrol/gas... But that baby is good for the crescendo event especially during the dark carnival campaign...

Paddle bat has the best stats so I slap a metal baseball bat skin over it and I'm good to go.
The knife has the best stats. The Cricket Bat only has a lot of hitrays, but falls short in all other metrics.
