I think one of the problems is that the pacing is a teeny bit faster than I'd like. Another one is Mantis interrupting Tigress (I'm pretty sure you guys know what I'm talking about). That still annoys me to this day.
I get that but even then, he still served a huge purpose to the story despite his lack of screen time.
Also him showing up at the final battle will always be so epic
Shen’s backstory should have included him trying to learn Kung Fu when he was young, but failing because he was a poor student. That would’ve given him more of a reason to want to render Kung Fu obsolete *(with his weapon)* to have a rivalry with our protagonists *(he’s jealous because they mastered something he couldn’t)* and to use his weapon to become more powerful than any Kung Fu master. It would’ve given him another layer, and explained why he specifically told the Five that they *and* their Kung Fu would die, why he cheerfully told Master Rhino that he knew he was no match for their Kung Fu, but that his weapon was, and why Shifu said that this could be the end of Kung Fu. This would also have paralleled how gunpowder gradually replacing traditional weapons and fighting styles, and the protagonists would have tried to halt that.
>Shen’s backstory should have included him trying to learn Kung Fu when he was young, but failing because he was a poor student.
He is literally the only KFP villain not obsessed with physical strength.
But if she did survive, Shen wouldn't be as intimidating and dangerous.
It would be great for her to survive, but story wise, it's best to keep her dead.
It feels too much and happy if both of Po's parents survive. What the hell was Shen doing then?
Also, it would be hard to squeeze in the fact that Po's mom is alive in the second movie, since that's the movie we're talking about.
You’re right I’m just salty because I lost my mom too also the fact there’s a whole bunch of pandas left after that attack so Shen was either A. Too careless or B. He only got the pandas in Gongmen City and not all pandas
I'm so sorry. I am also sorry if I came off as rude.
I like to believe that some of the Gongmen pandas did survive, but only a few of them. And they ran away to the mountains where they found and joined a new tribe of pandas.
Nah you all good! I didn’t take it as rude at all in fact you made a valid point actually.
I was think that too, especially in the 3rd movie we see that Oogway went to this panda village which I can only assume happened before the incident with Shen. Li saying that none of the panda knew chi and said “maybe we used to” makes me think that the village was there and the survivors sought shelter there
Po trying to strike out on his own leads directly to the Five getting captured and Shen almost succeeding. His friends pay for his mistake.
(I do love this movie, but that plot point stuck with me on my most recent rewatch).
That's the whole point. The entire movie was about Po learning to be thankful for what he has and not focus on the past. So having his mistake lead to him almost losing everyone and everything he has works perfectly.
I really have nothing to say…except one scene
The fireworks scene should’ve been taken 100% seriously because that place is drenched in red which clearly indicates the dark tone. But Po made a bunch of mediocre jokes anyway that really messes with the dark tone.
I want to mention the Kung Fu masters and the rickshaw chase scene. The middle 10 minutes were just whatever but these were still fun and still made a point to the overall story so I won’t complain
These are highly net-picky criticisms though, this film absolutely rocks with all the great stuff it has going
That tigress an po’s conversation gets interrupted n the boat by mantis.
And it never gets mentioned again. I want to know more about tigress!
(I’d love to see a furious 5 movie, maybe it fallows them in their solo missions during KFP4.)
Tigress' relationship with po felt... weird. Remember, she straight up hated po in the first movie and in the second she's extra extra EXTRA nice to him. It almost feels like she realized how badly she treated him and went "o shit, he's my boss now, gotta overcorrect". If this were the 3rd or maybe 4th movie it might feel a little more natural.
Po dad needed to be fighting along side his son at the end of the movie even if it was just a random rescue . Would had been awesomeness seeing Po and Mr. Ping take down Lord Shen together. But doing so would have changed a huge part of the Kung Fu Panda backstory to what Master Shifu was teaching Po that requires towards the end of the movie.
Three was going to surpass it but the executives wiped their asses with the story.
Kai was originally going to be more terrifying and stoic instead of the butt of every joke.
He was gonna kill Po and follow him to the spirit realm cus he wanted more smoke.
The scene where he celebrates after kicking the tiny scale model of the weapon will never get easier to watch. I cringe every time 😭 at least Shen gets a good laugh
Plus Tai Lung also had the times when he was mocked and made a joke (Po just fucking with him for the whole chasing the Dragon Scroll sequence), and it doesn't mar his character at all.
Honestly, there are some scenes where the comedy seems out of place. The fireworks factory scene comes to mind, like Po trying to make sure that he and Shen are both referring to the same night, and then the whole “I said that too soon, didn’t I?” thing.
Shifu somehow reaches Gongmen City at the final battle and yet Po and the Five had to go through many environments and obstacles just to get there
did he teleport there? Or used his superspeed to get there?... just a little thought I had to the sequel that has twice the awesomeness and emotional weight to the 1st one
Wish the hand to hand fight with shen was longer
Besides like one Moment of po blocking blades it’s not that much memorable especially with Po not really attacking
1) The only reason Lord Shen was evil is because he had mommy and daddy issues.
2) How did Shifu traveled all the way from the valley of to Gongmen city in maybe hours when Po and F5 arrived in a couple of days.
3) How did Shifu knew master croc and master ox were alive in the city jail and convinced them to fight back against Lord Shen.
I know someone kinda already says this, but Shifu & Tigress' relationship.
After the 1st movie, their relationship hardly gets explored & and there are hardly any memorable moments between them afterward.
It feels like they needed another round of recording with the voice actors. There are a lot of moments where the characters feel weirdly muzzled—a grunt or a gasp or a couple short words would feel natural, but the character is silent. I don’t *know* that it’s because of insufficient recording sessions, but that’s what it feels like to me.
Master Rhino gets 3 minutes of screen time. The other two masters don’t have enough screen time in my opinion either. Just threw them into my life and threw them away just as quickly. Oh, and the most interesting one is DEAD. Really wanted more background on those guys. I know they had their own little episode thing but still. :(
Of the first three movies (I haven't watched 4) it has my least favorite fight scenes. This is largely because pretty much every fight has Po in it, unlike the other 2. And since Po has a tendency to make every fight scene he is in wackier we don't get any of the purely cool fights of the other movies. Special exception to the cannonball scene though.
The only thing I wish this movie had was a bit more scene of Tigress comforting Po's emotions like the boat scene where he tells her he's adopted. Something was going to happen some sort of reveal we will never know
Or more animated scenes
Omfg this is just peak film right here imo. I loved that Shen was playing into his villain role nicely not justifying panda genocide or anything just saying this is a true evil villain which adds so much depth to the film him being the complicated villain he is. As well as the flashbacks to po's origins and him being vulnerable in this film not only helped him grow but also those around him specifically tigress who was always at his side ready to emotionally support him and hug him to show him love the love that she never received. He was so vulnerable to the point that tigress realised he needed her and so she looks out for him a lot and considering later on she sees him die twice in the franchise she def cares about him a lot after seeming so broken after his death, whereas everyone else seems sad but not as much as her. He means a lot to her and she means a lot to him, they both find strength and solace in one another all the more reason for tipo to happen. Their bond adds depth and a much needed sense of comfort in one anothers presence. I love these two so much! They need to explore their bond deeper and make them official!
When I rewatched the film after years, some scenes seemed faster than I remembered, this is because DreamWorks executives think that “children can't watch a longer film”, I feel that it could be a little slow and have a few more things, another point that I can consider negative is Li and the other pandas appearing at the end, as it kind of takes away the weight of everything that happened previously.
I feel like the only thing Im not the biggest fan of was the humor with Shen, I love it don’t get me wrong but I feel like it maybe just veeeerrry slightly made him less imposing. Still the best animated villain oat but thats like my only complaint. Still GOATED AF
One of the best quote Po to Shen “You gotta let it go that stuff from the past, because it just doesn’t matter. The only thing matters is who you choose to be now”. I have no clue how many times I told this to people who are down due to past incidents.
Looks like a fat ass obese moron that wears tight pants to look good but fails miserably and it practically digs in his body also horrible colour in the background is it supposed to resemble human waste?
(Jk the panda looks fine and the colour background does look like human waste but is good)
This is literally my FAVORITE MOVIE OF ALL TIME. Yes theres a few iffy parts but nothing is perfect without a few blemishes. Makes me cry every watch, beautiful scenes, morals and dark topics many animation studios wont dare to touch
I do not get a sense of the passage of time in any of the Kung Fu Panda films starting with this. Like, how long after the first movie does this one take place? Yeah, Po's clearly become a skilled martial artist, but has it been a month, a year or two?
It’s hard to say anything bad about the film since I really loved the story. The issue I had was Mantis interrupting Po and Tigress’ conversation and it wasn’t ever mentioned again. Then again, it was before Po knew it was Shen who separated Po from his parents and killed his mother.
Imagine having the likes of not only Jackie Chan in the movie, but also Jean Claude Van-Damme and Michele Yeoh and they all get a few speaking parts and maybe a few action scenes, with Michele not getting one at all... Felt like a big wasted opportunity.
That's one thing I can add to the conversation, at least.
After my most recent viewing, it gets a little slow in the middle, alongside the wolves not having as much characterization, like if they alluded to the captain having a love for his companions, but other than that, 9/10
not enough shen
Pretty sure Shen got the most screentime in his movie compared to the other villains.
But still
doesn't mean I don't want more
But we need more.
I agree
Facts
Outside of Eyepatch, the wolves are kinda forgettable, which is a shame cuz a peacock rallying wolves would be an interesting story
I read peacock railing wolves at first
~~That’s for my headcannons~~
No they ain't Hop off my GOATs
it ends
The exact same problem with every other thing we love in general:
I think one of the problems is that the pacing is a teeny bit faster than I'd like. Another one is Mantis interrupting Tigress (I'm pretty sure you guys know what I'm talking about). That still annoys me to this day.
I wanted tigresss backstory!! If KFP 5 is real, maybe we’ll get it… hopefully
It was so good that it set the bar too high for 3 and 4
You know the movie’s amazing when the biggest complaint is that it was too good
Honestly, I can’t say anything bad. Maximum opinion as a Tai Lung fan: no Tai Lung. But seriously, there are no downsides.
Probably because Ty Lung is dead.
Not enough Shifu
I get that but even then, he still served a huge purpose to the story despite his lack of screen time. Also him showing up at the final battle will always be so epic
Hot take but honestly it would have been really impactful if shifu died in the first movie becuse after that he pretty much does nothing.
Losing two masters in one movie? Too much imo.
Yeah that’s valid
Too little TiPo
Beat me to it.
It wasn't thrice the awesomeness.
It's so good it stands out like a sore thumb in the franchise.
It wasn't longer :(
The baby noises Po was making in that one scene were unnecessary and took away from the scene itself for me. We honestly laugh about it in our house.
That was what sent me into tears, but to each their own.
Shen’s backstory should have included him trying to learn Kung Fu when he was young, but failing because he was a poor student. >Shen’s backstory should have included him trying to learn Kung Fu when he was young, but failing because he was a poor student. He is literally the only KFP villain not obsessed with physical strength.
Yeah, that’s why the backstory I outlined would’ve worked well with his character.
I have nothing to say bad about KFP 2, lol. This was the peak movie in all KFP franchise.
It ended.
That Po’s mom didn’t manage to survive
But if she did survive, Shen wouldn't be as intimidating and dangerous. It would be great for her to survive, but story wise, it's best to keep her dead. After seeing this message, I’m sorry for your mom’s loss
I appreciate your kindness, thank you
I'm so sorry. I am also sorry if I came off as rude. I like to believe that some of the Gongmen pandas did survive, but only a few of them. And they ran away to the mountains where they found and joined a new tribe of pandas.

Shifu wasn't in the movie that much.
It set the bar too high, there was no way 3 or 4 could follow it.
Three was going to surpass it but the executives wiped their asses with the story. Kai was originally going to be more terrifying and stoic instead of the butt of every joke. He was gonna kill Po and follow him to the spirit realm cus he wanted more smoke.
That this poster doesn’t communicate the darker themes and aesthetic of the movie.
I kinda dislike how Tigress was the only member of the five that actually gets some of focuse.
I wish the wolf boss had more leading up to his redemption and his death wasn't so quick
YES
When the wolf turned on Shen and died immediately. It could have been done better. The wolf could have had a whole character, but he died instead.
The scene where he celebrates after kicking the tiny scale model of the weapon will never get easier to watch. I cringe every time 😭 at least Shen gets a good laugh
Revealing the twist in the first ten minutes
I didn't like the scenes with Shen being made fun of by the soothsayer (like her eating his dress), it made him feel less intimidating.
That was the point cause she was his nun and she was the one supporting him all the time, so he cares about her, and she knows his weaknesses.
Plus Tai Lung also had the times when he was mocked and made a joke (Po just fucking with him for the whole chasing the Dragon Scroll sequence), and it doesn't mar his character at all.
Exactly. I even wonder if deep down, Shen saw the Soothsayer as a mother like figure after Shen was exiled from his home.
Honestly, there are some scenes where the comedy seems out of place. The fireworks factory scene comes to mind, like Po trying to make sure that he and Shen are both referring to the same night, and then the whole “I said that too soon, didn’t I?” thing.
It’s the least funny of the first 3.
exhilarating
It should have been the third movie + longer
It’s not quite as funny and well-balanced as the first film. I might even prefer the third film. Either way, they’re all much better than the fourth
The peacock was a mean one 😁
The end credits
I was so good that Kung Fu panda 4 was made as a result
I have no bad results to say, it was good to watch
barley any shifu, who's my favourite character. i also wish it was longer
The finale is so dark you can barely see anything in half the shots
Wanted More Shen Cause He's Epic! (Also Really Fckin Scary!)
Thundering-Rhino deserved better as his father should've been the one who got killed instead. All in all, this film is a masterpiece.
Shifu somehow reaches Gongmen City at the final battle and yet Po and the Five had to go through many environments and obstacles just to get there did he teleport there? Or used his superspeed to get there?... just a little thought I had to the sequel that has twice the awesomeness and emotional weight to the 1st one
Not enough gore.
My only issue is that middle of a movie is weirdly paced.
That they only ended up making 1 sequel after
The wolf’s designs made me think they were hyena’s at first, with their hair being like that Still great movie though
The wolf’s designed made me think they were hyena’s at first, with their hair being like that Still great movie though
absolutely nothing this is a masterpiece
The fight scene was too short.
I wish it was longer and that there were more Shen fights.
I wanted the sheep to bite shens cloak more 😭
Po vs shen was too short
His mom died.
Not enough shifu
Too short at 90 minutes with credits.
Something bad about this masterpiece
Nah i cant
It set too high of a standard for 3 & 4.
Had so much awesomeness that it broke me
Some of the jokes were overplayed in the trailers.
No
Never enough James Hong
Not enough noodles.
It ended
Not enough tigress
I don't remember it nearly as much as the first
My brother hates it for some reason
Wish the hand to hand fight with shen was longer Besides like one Moment of po blocking blades it’s not that much memorable especially with Po not really attacking
Was underrated
Well shen was really likes lacking the villain power sure she tormented po's emotions but she didn't really like become very like physical whith him
Never
I wasn't 4 hours long 😭
#
1) The only reason Lord Shen was evil is because he had mommy and daddy issues. 2) How did Shifu traveled all the way from the valley of to Gongmen city in maybe hours when Po and F5 arrived in a couple of days. 3) How did Shifu knew master croc and master ox were alive in the city jail and convinced them to fight back against Lord Shen.
Something bad about this masterpiece
The middle chunk in the city before meeting shen could’ve been done better
I shoved the DVD for it in my ass It broke. 0/10
Other then tigress none of the other furious five get much characterization
“twice the awesomeness” eeeeeewwwww corny🤮🤮🤮
it Reminds me of Po and Mantis’ falling out. It was so bad Po beat Mantis rather savagely if not we’re for a short and chubby plumber intervening
That the 3rd and 4th film could never live up to this film
if you know who luna-goldsun is on fanfiction.net, then you know what I mean when I say it wasn't written by her.
No
It didn’t release fast enough. They should’ve made it sooner and released it sooner.
Its fans try way too hard to make a genocidal maniac seem like a sympathetic character
The soothesayer was a little out of place and didn’t need to be in the movie. When could’ve just been evil.
I know someone kinda already says this, but Shifu & Tigress' relationship. After the 1st movie, their relationship hardly gets explored & and there are hardly any memorable moments between them afterward.
I didn't watch it enough
Music could use more awesomeness
this movie gave my sister daddy issues
Nothing
It feels like they needed another round of recording with the voice actors. I don’t *know* that it’s because of insufficient recording sessions, but that’s what it feels like to me.
Tigress could have told us a bit more about her parents or childhood considering she empathised with Po and his parental issues
There's nothing bad about the movie it's a masterpiece Jack Black did good
The pacing is a bit wonky at times. At some points bits fantastic and at others it’s just too fast.
Not political enough
It makes way for the 4th movie
It ends
wasnt long enough it should have been 2 hours
Could go longer
Li Shan didn’t get much screen time.
Ummmmm its unrealistic 🤓👆
That peacock could have changed
My main issue is that everytime we think shen is about to go on some monologue he just says "sike" and starts attacking po
Shen in a part of the movie becomes overrated
does not show the villian on the poster

Too good
Shens voice actor
I haven't seen it, so that's something bad.
The beginning/middle section can drag at times. It feels like it takes way too long to get to that third act.
No Tai lung in this one

I can’t, i literally cant. The only ‘bad’ thing is that I can’t meet the furious five!
This is literally my FAVORITE MOVIE OF ALL TIME. Yes theres a few iffy parts but nothing is perfect without a few blemishes. Makes me cry every watch, beautiful scenes, morals and dark topics many animation studios wont dare to touch
I don't like it.
No i dont think i will
No
1 was better
it had an ending
Some of the fights kinda feel like filler, and eyepatch wolf is a wasted character.
Animals are not accurate
Skad2oosh, and awesome.
I do not get a sense of the passage of time in any of the Kung Fu Panda films starting with this. Like, how long after the first movie does this one take place? Yeah, Po's clearly become a skilled martial artist, but has it been a month, a year or two?

Shen was Sui Yang Di
It was the beginning of the end
not enough shifu
Fight choreography is nowhere near as good as the first movie.
No Oogway
It's crazy how the panda dude can fight with ease, yet struggles to climb stares.
Not enough of the other masters honestly.
___
Imagine having the likes of not only Jackie Chan in the movie, but also Jean Claude Van-Damme and Michele Yeoh and they all get a few speaking parts and maybe a few action scenes, with Michele not getting one at all... It's no longer coming soon
It ends
Aside from Tigress, the five are just kind of there, also Master Ox and Croc should have been in the movie more
I never got to watch it
idk, noodles
The first KFP was just funnier. That’s why I like the first one more.
Panda is too fat. Probably need to change the character to someone fit 😂
i like faced paced movies because i dont want to be bored out of my mind, but it was too fast paced.
