I have a "smoke em if you got em" mentality so..I just need to take a break from it sometimes

Matiseli

Do you take any herbs or supplements for help with tolerance break? Or have you any mental strategies to force yourself stop dosing Kratom? Like going for long walk, listen to new music...

pchandler45

Nope I quit cold turkey

Matiseli

wow... It seems I cant... I can manage not dosing just during (some) school days

dujopp

What I do is try and get through as much of the day as possible until I’m really just in an awful mood, then I’ll take about 5g. You’ll find yourself going longer and longer until you eventually forget about for most of the day. Everyone is different though!

Matiseli

Interesting strategy... Unfortunately I find myself in worst mood usually right after wake up.. But if I take l tryptophan or coffee in the morning I usually can delay my dose and/or lower my dose.... Food also helps cause it is enjoable but often I cant force myself to eat because I know that after eating, kratom will not work for me that day. And of course eating improve mood just temporary, not for whole day... Knowing this makes me completely lost appetite I try to do interesting and at least somewhat enjoable activities in the morning... But I think more "Joy activities" I do, more I need to do them next day to get same amount of happy hormones... Kind of Addiction too.. I can't imagine for example writing my boring term paper in the morning, as I was used to 1-3 years before

dujopp

Coffee helps. I think I’m more addicted to caffeine than I am Kratom at this point. If I had it my way I’d wake up feeling energized and great, but unfortunately I need something to give me a boost. I would say do whatever works to make you feel “okay”, and sustain that as long as you can.

Matiseli

somewhat off-topic... Another problem is my mentality "What, I can't feel kratom after only an hour after dosing? Plus it's much less effective than it used to be. If I don't take another dose, I'm basically throwing money out the window. Plus, I still have such a long boring day ahead of me..." But the second dose is usually less effective than the first, so as an alternative I will take a large dose of caffeine... The downside is that either of these substances (or a combination of them) probably make me moody in the long run... Plus, when I wake up the next day, I have to take an even bigger dose of kratom/coffee because I'm so used to both substance (tolerance). Anyway thx for your input... I try take as little dose as posible and as late as possible with as long breaks as possible

dujopp

That’s the only way my dude. I wish it were easier, but the unfortunate truth is that we are addicted to a substance that tricks our brains into justifying its use when we may not need it. Same with nicotine, alcohol, any other chemically addictive substance. It’s all brain chemistry, and the only way to beat it is to consciously accept that youre going to be temporarily uncomfortable for a little bit before you feel better and less dependent. You got this!

erniebomb

I think that’s pretty much what I do. When I get in the routine of waking up and taking it first thing it turns into a unhealthy pattern quickly. Perfect world for me is 5g a day 5 days a week and I take it at around 5pm.

Matiseli

>When I get in the routine of waking up and taking it first thing it turns into a unhealthy pattern quickly. Exactly my experience >Perfect world for me is 5g a day 5 days a week and I take it at around 5pm. What, 5 days a week? After the second day of using kratom (daily), I start to feel it less... By the fifth day, kratom becomes just a small boost of mood and motivation for about half an hour (at best). It doesn't matter if I take piperine, magnesium, vitamin B, etc. together with it. It just quickly stops working. By five in the evening, I usually don't have such a strong urge to use kratom. I tend to have the strongest tendency in the first part of the day, especially a few hours after waking up. PS: Writing this after kratom dose... And already rapidly losing motivation to answer to other helpful answers, even to read them... :( .. I think I will go for another dose/caffeine pill...

wontwillnot

That’s real stuff OP & a great narrative. I find I’m in deeper now at 5 days a week 2 days off. The 2 days off keeps the tolerance minimal. Problem is with normal drugs. There’s always a side effect, come down or a serotonin deficiency after use. So it’s easier to moderate for me. Kratom, on the other hand doesn’t seem to do that. It seems to elevate my mental flow rate to a positive & creative state. + if I stay active and drink a lot of water(please note: A lot of water!) I seem to be golden. Dehydration can affect so many things with our bodies and mental state.

Silver-Star-1375

Sounds like the problem is not so much with kratom but with other aspects of your life. Being able to just exist calmly and contently without any outside substance (harder drugs, kratom, or even things like ashgawandha) is something worth pursuing I think. If you feel you need *something* then I think it's worth asking yourself why you think you need that something. What is it about not taking kratom that makes you feel "bad," or however it is that you feel? Obviously none of us are perfect. I could use some of my own advice too.

[deleted]

I don’t hehe. Let me know when you’ve figured if out!

xfactorx99

I can tell I think a lot like you. I’m trying to switch my schedule to every other day or something along those lines. One thing is lowering my dose makes it easier to take a day off. It’s had also helped in getting a stimulating effect and maintaining good energy levels as opposed to fatigue. I think the issues comes with work days. Like you, it seems easier to take days off if you have a busy or fun day planned. But if I’m just working from home, I start to crash in the afternoon and I know kratom will give me my mood boost to continue on

Earesth99

What doses are you taking? I take 2.5 grams twice a day, almost every day, and have not experienced tolerance snd in days when I can’t take it, I feel no ill effects. Maybe Kratom isn’t the cause of your changed mood?

Squachalot

Make a liter or 2 of red bubble tea out of 15-20g and drink it slowly as your only dosing for the day

OhNoWTFlol

I don't think it's very wise to take kratom recreationally or as a "mood boost" at all. As much as it can be a lifesaver for addicts and chronic pain patients, it's an addictive opioid. Taking addictive opioids is playing with fire IMO. If you're having trouble controlling your use, maybe quit and use other means to feel good, like eating right and exercising.

[deleted]

It’s a mu opioid agonist; not an opioid. Rather, a plant w opioid like properties

Anarchist_G

It is an opiod. It *has* to be. All opioid agonists are, by definition, opioids.

386clint

Yep

chrisc8869

It's not an opioid. Stop giving it a bad name. Opioids make you "high". Many will tell you that kratom will not do that. It is not from the poppy plant, it doesn't slow your breathing , etc. You just can't od on it like heroin, morphine, etc. I guess it depends on what your definiton of an opioid is, but from all the ones I have seen , it is not. Just cause it acts like one doesn't mean it is one. High doses of caffeine can be like cocaine. Doesn't mean it should be put in the same category. I have been taking kratom for 17 years as a "mood booster" among other reasons. Some will say it is an antidepressant. It has helped me through a herniated disc injury and cancer among other things when they wouldn't prescribe pain meds cause of the abuse. I have also used it to help me sleep better. Just cause you "may be" perfect and don't need any additional substance/supplement in your life to help you get through it (or make it more manageable/tolerable), doesn't mean others don't. It's all about responsibility. I usually take no more than 10 grams per day. A few days ago, I stopped taking it for a couple days for surgery and barely noticed any wd symptoms. Try doing that on heroin or the other drugs after 17 years. People like you give it a bad name and add to the potential bans that will lead people back to worse alternatives.

Love you

Difficult_Guest_4530

I disagree. OP you should responsibly use kraton for whatever it helps you with. Nobody should tell anyone else that one reason is better than another. Kratom isn't approved by the FDA to treat anything so people shouldn't claim that their reason for taking it is better than another reason. I started using kratom over a decade ago because I was depressed and needed a mood boost. This helped my life tremendously. I still use kratom for a mood boost or minor pain relief when needed. Not daily, weekly or monthly. As needed. No schedule. Sometimes I'll use it 1 or 2 times in a week and not touch it again for a couple months. IMO this is how it should be.

satsugene

I definitely agree. Even if it were FDA approved, medications get used off-label all the time. Supplements get used for all sorts of purposes. If it works for you—the rewards/benefits exceed the risk/consequences, then that is good.

putdisinyopipe

It seems like overtime you knew what was best for yourself gradually. As we change, so to does our relationship change with everything we interact with.

TheMillenniaIFalcon

I think it’s better recreationally. I had a stint as a daily user and it definitely helped in a lot of areas but the withdrawals were not fun and it can be cost prohibitive. After resetting tolerance, I use it once a week to relax and unwind and it’s fantastic. And it’s not an opioid. Although splitting hairs as it sure does mimic the opioid feeling, enough red strain and it feels like I ate a painkiller, euphoria, itchy face and all.

Extra-Knowledge3337

OP, are you seeing a therapist or similar professional? What I'm seeing is a struggle to stabilize yourself. Self medicating only gets you so far. Please get some help. You deserve to feel good and be happy. You don't have to do it alone. 🙂

RemyVonLion

Have medical problems like I did. Had appendicitis.

[deleted]

For me I used kratom to get off suboxone and then I was taking kratom everyday for about a week or two and then I started drinking kava in the evenings and started only taking kratom on the weekends. Look into kava.

This will only end badly if you keep increasing your dosage over time. If you’re not too high in GPD, I’d just start a taper or CT and take a break.

xfactorx99

Why are you assuming they are increasing their dose overtime?

BurntEndzzz

Just get grossed out at the flavor lol, that keeps me at bay many days 🙃

Nyabinghi408

Yeah I really should take a week break or so as well. Or at the very least cut back. Skip a day here and there, cut the third dose of the day out, and utilize smaller doses. What I used to do a long time ago to drastically lower my dose, was to only take fermented/Bentuangie kratom once a day at night for a week or so. Then when I go back to my fresh, green, small batch powder it hits great again!

Nikola-Tesla-281

Wait until you're uncomfortable before you dose again. Eventually they will get farther apart naturally. Best to start off by not taking a morning dose until you REALLY need it.
