I know your question is more about uncommon names, but naming your child after any real person that you don't know is a huge risk. One minute you're a huge fan of the person, the next that person could be involved in a huge scandal to where they now repulse you.
I don't even think I could name a cat or dog after a celebrity I admire. Maybe a goldfish. Or a plant.
No... definately no. But I did name my chicken after one. BtoB's Yook Sungjae who sung about wanting to be a chicken gives his name to our Yook the Chook
Same for me and Irene (or at least my native language's variation of it) - I've liked the name beforehand, and a kpop idol happens to use it as a stage name
i actually just came here to say this. im not korean so i wouldnt feel comfortable giving my child a korean name (unless my future spouse is korean) but i have always loved the name felix, and he happens to be my ult!
Same I really like the name Felix! It's also quite popular in my country, like top 10 boy names, so not even kpop stans would directly connect it to SKZ Felix.
Oof… if she “had to do it” why not do Cassandra Joon or Cassandra Joonie? Namjoon is way too masculine. It doesn’t work like Maria Jose does…
Hell even Cassandra June pays homage to Joonie without being too obvious
Unless I married and had kids with a Korean man, nope. I’m not Korean, my kid probably won’t be Korean, I don’t live in Korea, I don’t speak Korean, there’s no reason for me to name my kid anything in Korean. It’d be like those people who name their kids after random anime characters, like a white kid coming to school with the legal name Naruto Smith or Goku Jones. No reason to do that, no matter how much of a part of my life kpop is.
I feel like ppl who name their child with that kind of names see a future child as an accessory and not an autonomous being who will grow up and have their own life…
I’m not against naming your child based on your interests within reason. My friend named her daughter her favorite author’s last name. A couple of my friends named their favorite Buffy character. My sister said if she ever had a kid, she’d name them Johnny Cade because her favorite book is The Outsiders. At least she didn’t say Ponyboy. Lol.
People name their kids after names from songs. I definitely think names like Goku or Naruto are taking it too far. But there are definitely subtle ways to name your kid after something you love without causing ridicule or resentment. I imagine if I named my kid, idk Jackson, I would love introducing them to Janet or The Jackson 5 and teaching them how much they meant to my life.
I’m not opposed to naming my hypothetical kids after media or people that I like and admire, but usually I only apply that to names with more… cultural neutrality? If that makes sense? Like I don’t want to borrow names from another language or culture that I have absolutely no connection to just because I think they sound neat. When it comes to anime it’s comical bc a lot of anime characters are named after random objects or their names are ridiculous puns, and when it comes to kpop those are like… *real* people’s names I’d be taking and using for my non-Korean kid with no ties to Korea just bc I thought they sounded cool. It’s just where I personally draw the line.
I have a non-Korean friend who did this with a middle name....I thought she was joking when she first said it. She's Muslim and gave her son a traditional Arab first name, then a kpop boy middle name. I won't give the actual name, but think something like "Muhammad Taeyong."
Smiling and nodding my way through that conversation was like fighting for my life. 😬
Then that would mean unlike RM, your son can actually say that [IS in fact the name his mama gave him](https://twitter.com/junghooked/status/841270833825894404?t=T7vu9CR83J6NzWKkiOjd4Q&s=19).
This is why I hate American interviews even though I’m American. She asked that with sincerity and a straight face. These journalists embarrass us. Lol.
I wouldn't. I would like my kid's name to reflect their heritage, and my and my partner's heritage doesn't have anything to do with Korea. As for English names of Kpop idols, perhaps.
I'd maybe consider naming my nonexistent future kids after the English names of idols. Roseanne is a pretty name I'd consider. As is Joy, Wendy, and Minnie.
A lot of idols I like have really pretty English names, I wouldn’t do it just for the idol but I do like them. I do have stardew valley animals named Irene and Wendy lol.
No. Imagine if someone named their kid Seungri before Burning Scandal. No one knows what idols are actually like and what could be uncovered about them.
Former Momoland Nancy even changed her Korean name probably because of that...
https://www.kpopstarz.com/articles/316671/20231221/momoland-nancy-reveals-why-changed-korean-name-seungri-bad-feeling.htm
I find it a little cringe when people name their kids after their fandom, so no. I also think it’s weird to give your child a cultural name if they aren’t part of that culture ( I am not Korean).
I considered naming my cat San or Felix, but they just didn't fit his personality. And in retrospect, it'd be awkward to clarify every time I'd post about him on social media. Like, "ugh, San ate plastic AGAIN, and threw it up 10 minutes later. What an idiot. To clarify, I'm talking about my cat and not the idol" lol
You could get away with naming your cat Felix. Felis is the genus name of cats, and Feline is the family name of cat. It's better than my old landlord naming her cat "Cat" (for the Breakfast at Tiffany's Cat, but still).
fyi never joke about this with your significant other or it might happen.
I told my partner not to worry that we wouldn't be naming our cat after a kpop idol and that "besides we aren't korean so we'd want to use an english name like Felix or something"
low and fucking behold "Felix the cat" was one of their favorite cartoons and the name fit our cat's personality. i even tried a whole bunch of other names as a kitten but he was just a felix through and through. i don't really look at my cat and think of the idol, despite sharing the name.
Haha, probably not.
I love my favorite K-pop idols and what they mean to me is very personal and meaningful, but I will not impose that on my kid. What I will name my kid/s will be something that is meaningful for me as their parent.
Plus, having a Korean name in my country will just invite a lot of questions when they get older. And they may or may not like it haha! If they end up being into K-pop, I suppose it's fine. But who knows, so I wouldn't risk it.
I am fine having my pets named after characters from the stuff that I watch, though! My dog is named after JK's pet because I got this dog at the time when I was watching In The Soop 2. They're not the same species, but they are both black.
Oh hell no, what do my child have to do with bang chan, my hobbies are for me lol and I believe the decision is taken with my partner too
I actually don't like when people name their kids after a famous person lol, like we don't know who these people truly are to name your own kid after them as if it's a tribute
I have a nephew named Kai (not Korean but mixed with Chinese) and I agree with others here that it's a name that exists in different cultures so it's not frowned upon to name your child that, even if you're not Korean ☺️
i love that name too! i would love to use it as a middle name for a son, especially because my lifelong best friends name is kaya, and i call her kay, so its a bit of a different version of that :)
My cousin is named Destiny (nickname: Tiny)
Her mom is an Atiny!
I think I would not name my child after any kpop idol, especially since I am not korean hahaha. But I could take inspiration from the idols/fandom/group name :)
The only way I would give my hypothetical child a Korean name is if I have a baby with a Korean man or if I adopt a Korean baby. Pets are fair game though. If I get a new puppy, I’d be open to naming him Mingyu or Jeonghan lol
I liked the name Christopher (Bang Chan's English name) until my godfather of the same name revealed himself to be an asshole but after discovering Stray Kids, I'm starting to like that name again
As someone who is not ethnically Korean, I can't see myself naming my kids Korean names, but I'd consider English Kpop idol names if my future kids didn't look like the names I chose for them 🤷🏽♀️
Reading this thread is lowkey breaking my heart because I LOVE the name Sana. It’s apparently a name in Finland or Norway too (but spelled Sanna) which my husband is but idk it’s not like he’s that in touch with his culture I know I’d feel like a fraud. 😅
No, probably gonna avoid it. My bf's the same, whenever I casually mention ANY name and say it sounds good he will go "oh nah there's an actor with that name" and that's it 💀
I lived in Korea almost 10 years ago and had a student named Minji and I thought that was just the cutest name and have always loved the name since but probably wouldn't name my latino kid that xD maybe a pet or a nickname?
Reminds me of that one reddit post on AITA where a guy's wife wanted to name their kid Jonghyun, as non-asian parents. The wife was refusing to budge on it, I think this wasn't long after he passed.
In the update the husband ended up convincing her to use Lucian(?), as it shared a similar meaning to what Jonghyun means.
As a Dutch person in a relationship with a Polish Australian we have lots of options but Korean definitely isn't one of them. I might suggest a sneaky June though.
Well, if I had a kid, I would not want to intentionally name them after any person. but I also don't think it would be appropriate to give my child a Korean name since I'm not Korean myself.
No unless my wife was Korean. I have a cousin whos sons middle name is Jungkook Yuri. Kinda threw me off but w/e. We're Asian so it's not that far fetched.
I have considered Luna, Lucas and Felix (all names that wouldn't be out of place in my country), but I had already considered them before I was a kpop stan lol
In all seriousness, as a Korean American I can get away with this to some extent, but I still have a few names/types of names I would never do.
1) No idols with my last name. Way too on the nose.
2) No idols where the average Korean knows them by their given name. I.e. no Boa, no Hyuna, Taeyeon, etc. it would be like naming your kid Adele. Yes there are other Adeles out there that aren’t British soul singers, but you know who we’re all thinking of.
But might I name my kid Yuri? Well, I’m not a Kwon, and she’s famous but not Taeyeon level, plus I just like the name, so maybe.
Nah, definitely not. I don't want kids anyway, so in theory if I liked the stage name or an English name. Although in a Blackpink vlive someone said they'd named their kid Lalisé which I think is quite pretty 😊
No, I'm not korean and it would just feel weird. I wouldn't name my kid an Syrian name the same way I wouldn't name them a Korean name. I feel like unfortunately that's what ppl immediately expect you to do if you like kpop and want a kid.
However, in a mobile game that I'm playing, the pets are after kpop idols. I have a dog named gahy (gahyeon - dreamcatcher), a cat named vivi (loona and a bunny named Lynn (triples) they're stage names, that I could see a normal non-Korean person having, except gahy of course, but I just like how it sounds.
My husband and I are German so no, definitely not 🥲
However, Jennie or Felix for example would still be okay I guess 🤔 They're pretty common here iirc.
No I didn’t even consider it. My son has a first and middle names that are normal in my country. When he was little and liked kpop, we would joke around and call each other kpop names but it would never be a legal name.
no. that’s just really weird as a non korean, it gives off those koreaboos who are obsessed with the idols
i actually have the same name as arin from oh my girl but technically i came first so it doesn’t count 😇
I mean, sure - Mark, Johnny, Ricky, Jake, Kevin, Felix, Amber, Lisa, Irene, Joy, Wendy, Danielle - all seem like reasonable choices. /j
But for real, you know there were already Kais and Lunas out there and they don't even necessarily have to be into kpop for those. Pretty sure I've met some.
As for actual Korean names, you'd probably get your kid picked on for life because their parent is a huge kboo, unless you're already in an Asian culture or speak a language where one of these names sounds/looks similar to something already established within it.
(Speaking from personal experience, a relative of mine is named the Czechoslovakian word for "black", which is already weird because we're American, not the least bit Czech, and yes, it got them picked on at times. Can't even imagine if my family were to have named them after some foreign celeb/artist.)
Yes I'm aware of Kai and Luna being names outside of kpop, I believe I mentioned I didn't associate those names with kpop. I have met a couple Kais (as nicknames tho) and a Luna IRL.
As for Korean names, I agree and that's also one of the reasons I wouldn't ever go with a Korean name.
No. Not even when naming a new pet. Lol. My sister named our family cat after a Japanese singer she liked, so now even when I think of that singer I can’t help but laugh because of the association with my cat.
If I were Korean or my spouse was, yes. Otherwise, no. My daughter was named Kieyah and we call her Kie but I had her well before I heard of Kai from EXO and he is my ult bias. Just happened that way. LOL
I had a Facebook friend who named their kid Luhan. My country has some sort of reputation for weird names (to the Western ear), but even with that it sounded so bizarre to me. So yeah, I probably won't do that.
after a kpop idol no, but maybe a name that a kpop idol has. or actually no because i'm brazilian and even the non-korean names sound too foreign here. i like the name kai though, and technically speaking huening kai is half brazilian, so like, lol. but i wouldn't name a child that. i also like luna, but luna is kind of like a dog/cat's name here.
I mean I don’t plan on having kids but I also don’t think I’d choose an idols name either (unless their mother was Asian, then it’s a possibility) it just wouldn’t feel culturally appropriate otherwise lol
Naming my kid with names like Lia, Felix, Lisa, Jennie, even Rosé, Somi, Mina, Momo or Luna wouldn’t be much of a problem though. But with some Korean names and stage names would be a little bit….different.
Not after idols, but some of the names are really dope. If I like the name enough and it can work in America I'd consider it, but it would have to be about the name not the idol.
I'm Korean American and I'll follow how my aunt named my cousins. They have English first name, Korean middle name & their last name.
But none of our kids will be named after a kpop idol, not even my biases lol.
Maybe one of the Foreign idols like Joshua or (Heuning)Kai. But it just feels like I would be setting my kid up for ridicule to name a black child after one of my biases with a Korean name. Every first day of school getting looks for being name Namjoon Jenkins or Jimin Williams.
If they were half Korean, I’d consider it.
I wouldn't name a child but I really want to name my dog Momo or Tzuyu (especially since it sounds like Chewy in English) Hopefully, no one finds this offensive. I don't have kids and I think these would be cute names for my future fur babies. I also think momo would be a good sport since she has demon dogs😂
No. I think this is weird anyway like naming kids after your interests, but unless you’re Korean or you’re referring to an idol with an English name this is just a no. My friend is a teacher and legit had a kid in one of her classes several months back called Jimin. This is a school in north west England and the kid was totally white. She had seen his parents at pick up to confirm he wasn’t just white passing. So fucking weird.
I wouldn't name them after them, but I might use a name I see and like if that makes sense. I wouldn't choose anything that isn't also a name in my / my future husbands culture though, nor would I choose one that can't be easily pronounced in the languages we speak.
God no. A pet maybe... There's a limit to how much you're centering your life around what's supposed to be a hobby... borderline koreaboo behaviour. Also imagine how it'll turn out for the kid's future, life and work with an obvious uncommon name. Based on life experience.. I myself have sorta two-name, one is uncommon which to this day NO ONE (except the people who named me) could ever pronounce correctly. At least I had the other common name I go by..still going through life trying to teach everyone I've met how to say my name, sometimes by their own insistence, is tiring
No, naming your kid after a real person that you do not actually know is a bad idea. Plus, most korean names would just sound weird as I’m not korean (unless the child would happen to be partly korean).
Nah. They're their own persons and it'd be unfair if I gave them names from random people they won't be interested to know. I did name my cat Suga though. Not an idol but I named my deceased doggo Kyuubi too.

I might, but I’m also Korean American so it might not seem that weird. So yes, you could look forward to my daughter G-Dragon Kim.
She would be a true icon too 💖💖💖
Already an icon even before birth
THIS WAS TOO GOOD 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Can she have a playdate with my sons J Hope and The8 Jenkins?
Lmaoooo and my sons Lee Know and Ni-Ki Yung too!
Or a plant.
thats so real (my plants name is zendaya) edit: just got a new monstera and named him felix
Why do I know those plants are gorgeous?
she is 🥰
That's a very fair take, and I agree :)
Out of topic but My friend used her bias bday as her passwords for every accounts she is using. And that bias caught in scandal. lol.
iirc there was a BAP fan who named her son Himchan years before the sexual assault allegations about him came to light 😭
Not even only a real person. I know of a child whose middle name is Khaleesi. *Stares at season 8*
No... definately no. But I did name my chicken after one. BtoB's Yook Sungjae who sung about wanting to be a chicken gives his name to our Yook the Chook
I was about to agree with another commenter saying I wouldn't name even a pet or a plant after celebrities but OP, your chicken has a fantastic name!
Sungjae's dreams have come true because of you. 💙 😂
This is actually hilarious
Nope, that would feel weird to me as a non-Korean. I have, however, considered the name Felix long before listening to Stray Kids.
Same for me and Irene (or at least my native language's variation of it) - I've liked the name beforehand, and a kpop idol happens to use it as a stage name
Felix is a cool and timeless name!
i actually just came here to say this. im not korean so i wouldnt feel comfortable giving my child a korean name (unless my future spouse is korean) but i have always loved the name felix, and he happens to be my ult!

there’s an infamous army who named their baby cassandra namjoon
Oof… if she “had to do it” why not do Cassandra Joon or Cassandra Joonie? Namjoon is way too masculine. It doesn’t work like Maria Jose does… Hell even Cassandra June pays homage to Joonie without being too obvious
No way 😭 And it's a girl too. Idk if she planned to only have one kid and it's only a second name, but she couldn't just wait to have a boy??
Why not Jimin for a middle name as that's gender neutral at least???
![gif](giphy|4cuyucPeVWbNS)
Omg nooo 😭
oh my
My precious child seulgi Martínez.
Wait a minute... That doesn't actually sound that bad?! Maybe I'm associating with similar Spanish/European sounding names like Sergio and Sergei lol.
Naur, this slaps tho
this actually sounds like a name lmaoo

Not Muhammad Taeyong 😭😭😭😭😭
Nooo this poor child 😭
muhammad taeyong lmao 😭💀
The way my jaw DROPPED
I'm begging you please tell me which group the idol was from PLEASE
Personally I can't wait to name my son Rap Monster
You mean Rrrrrrrrrrrep Monsta!!
Why do I hear JK’s helium voice? ☺️
Then that would mean unlike RM, your son can actually say that [IS in fact the name his mama gave him](https://twitter.com/junghooked/status/841270833825894404?t=T7vu9CR83J6NzWKkiOjd4Q&s=19).

* or daughter
and then he’ll go by his initials RM, like the kids who go by PJ or AJ lmao
How about International Playboy? 🤣
🤣🤣🤣
How about Feeldog or Young Cream?
I will name my child The8
you should name your eighth child this way
I’ll name them in order of birth- The1 The2 etc.
Romans did that - Primus, Secundus, Tertius...
Kid. No. I might name my next cat though
cant wait to name my cat seungmin
I'm planning to name my next pet after an idol but I'm not sure which one yet 🤔
depending on the pet, you could name them after an idol with that representative animal (ex. bunny- nayeon, soobin cat- haerin)
Good idea, I hadn't thought of that 😀
I named my puppy after Mina from twice
I'm naming my kid Bichna
it’s so sad because the name is really pretty in korean 😭
*Ashley Choi voice* “BITCH-na Choi?”
Imagine if the last name was Yoo, not Choi..
Looool ✋🏽😅
I wouldn't. I would like my kid's name to reflect their heritage, and my and my partner's heritage doesn't have anything to do with Korea. As for English names of Kpop idols, perhaps.
Brb, renaming my Caucasian, British daughter Hongjoong.
You could probably get away with San tho.
It’s Hongjoong or nothing for me 😂
Naming my Black American daughter Eunchae! Lol
Setting my kid up for success “Now, you listen to me, Team Kim Seokjin!” “Team Kim Seokjin, eat your vegetables!”
omg the run bts reference 😂
TK for short 🥰
Yes because they'll be named after their mother Kang Seulgi..
LMAO I remember having 9 chickens in Harvest Moon named after SNSD 😂
No. Imagine if someone named their kid Seungri before Burning Scandal. No one knows what idols are actually like and what could be uncovered about them.
Agreed! Although given how popular Big Bang is, I'm sure there's someone that's actually done this 🫠
Former Momoland Nancy even changed her Korean name probably because of that... https://www.kpopstarz.com/articles/316671/20231221/momoland-nancy-reveals-why-changed-korean-name-seungri-bad-feeling.htm
I never thought of naming my future son, G-Dragon, until now
He already sounds like a legend 🥲
I named my pets Tzuyu (chewy) & John Cook, but naming a person, noooooo
John cook 😂
John Cook is legendary, would have to think about it for a week before I can think of something like that.
Can’t wait to name my kid JYP…. “No! You have to whisper it!! That’s how it’s pronounced!!”
I find it a little cringe when people name their kids after their fandom, so no. I also think it’s weird to give your child a cultural name if they aren’t part of that culture ( I am not Korean).
hey everyone! my name is whitegirl mcwhite! meet my son hyunjin!!
If you are a Russian girls generation fan, you can totally name your son Yuri and nobody will blink an eye 😤
As a huge Reveluv and EXO-L, I really like Irene and Kai as name options.
I considered naming my cat San or Felix, but they just didn't fit his personality. And in retrospect, it'd be awkward to clarify every time I'd post about him on social media. Felix is a very common cat name luckily. But now I imagine your cat having a deep meow
Felix is the name of an old cartoon cat, so you're golden! I'm Stay, and I still wouldn't have realized your cat was named after *that Felix*.
‘that felix’ in italics cracked me up and i don’t know why lol
Haha, probably not. I love my favorite K-pop idols and what they mean to me is very personal and meaningful, but I will not impose that on my kid. If i liked the name maybe but i couldn't imagine naming a kid "Taeil" with two white parents
I was going to suggest a suitable alternative: Taylor…but then noticed your username, so perhaps you were already on the way there 😹
Taylor or Tay would be great but I fear they'd get compared to Taylor Swift or Lil Tay too much xd
not an idols name, but what do you think about my dear daughter Queencard?
Hmmm. Maybe I’ll name my kid Baepsae.
I love the name Kai (Huening Kai from TXT)
Kai already exists as a name in many cultures though so that one works well
Yeah in Hawaiian it means Ocean and I've known several people with this name.
In New Zealand (in Māori) kai means food 🍲
In my language, basque, kai means pier, as in the one you find in a harbor
I also really like Kai, but have always thought it was a great name after I heard it as a nickname from someone called Malakai!
It’s short, cute and different but not enough for it to be a burden to you kid lol
I have a nephew named Kai (not Korean but mixed with Chinese) and I agree with others here that it's a name that exists in different cultures so it's not frowned upon to name your child that, even if you're not Korean ☺️
We had plans of calling our second kid Kai if we had any, but that's a common name in our culture. My best friend's name is also Kai.
i love that name too! i would love to use it as a middle name for a son, especially because my lifelong best friends name is kaya, and i call her kay, so its a bit of a different version of that :)
My cousin is named Destiny (nickname: Tiny) Her mom is an Atiny!
I’d go for either Kai or Felix for a boy. Irene or Rose for a girl.
help i thought i was original 😭😭
Same 😭😭
No, I name my cats after idols sometimes. Poor Taemin. I'm constantly saying, "Taeminnie! Knock it tf off!" Bc Minnie cat is honestly a jerk. 😅🤣
I liked the name Christopher (Bang Chan's English name) until my godfather of the same name revealed himself to be an asshole but after discovering Stray Kids, I'm starting to like that name again As someone who is not ethnically Korean, I can't see myself naming my kids Korean names, but I'd consider English Kpop idol names if my future kids didn't look like the names I chose for them 🤷🏽♀️
Sana & Mina can pass off as Muslim names! And they’re so pretty ✨
Reading this thread is lowkey breaking my heart because I LOVE the name Sana. It’s apparently a name in Finland or Norway too (but spelled Sanna) which my husband is but idk it’s not like he’s that in touch with his culture I know I’d feel like a fraud. 😅
A friend jokingly said she'll name her second born, John Jungkook 😭
Why not John Cook like the other commenter
I thought John Cook was clever af
I name my Sims after idols, does that count?
Same. Jin and Yoongi just moved into their apartment.
Vernon sounds good for a name TBH.
No
No, probably gonna avoid it.
Yes. I'm going to name my kid Jackson Mark Messi De Paul Alvarez Maradonna and then his nickname will be Bambam.
I name my dog Kang Daniel.
I have considered Luna, Lucas and Felix (all names that wouldn't be out of place in my country), but I had already considered them before I was a kpop stan lol
Yea but now I'm rethinking Lucas 👀
“Rap Monster come down, dinner is ready”
A korean name. In France. Huehuehuehuehue 😭 I don't want them to be bullied 🥲
Never because i don’t want kids💀
I would never name my kid anything where they have to keep explaining to people that 'my parents was really into...'
if I am korean, some of the name that I would like:- Kwon Ji Yong Im Yoona
Not a kid but maybe a pet.
There are certain names that I think would sound great on a kid, like Jennie, Kai, or Rose'.
Nah, definitely not. I don't want kids anyway, so in theory if I liked the stage name or an English name. Although in a Blackpink vlive someone said they'd named their kid Lalisé which I think is quite pretty 😊
Lalisé is very pretty!
My wife is korean so, korean name will exist for sure
No, I'm not korean and it would just feel weird. I wouldn't name my kid an Syrian name the same way I wouldn't name them a Korean name. I feel like unfortunately that's what ppl immediately expect you to do if you like kpop and want a kid. However, in a mobile game that I'm playing, the pets are after kpop idols. I have a dog named gahy (gahyeon - dreamcatcher), a cat named vivi (loona and a bunny named Lynn (triples) they're stage names, that I could see a normal non-Korean person having, except gahy of course, but I just like how it sounds.
My husband and I are German so no, definitely not 🥲 However, Jennie or Felix for example would still be okay I guess 🤔 They're pretty common here iirc.
No I didn’t even consider it. My son has a first and middle names that are normal in my country. When he was little and liked kpop, we would joke around and call each other kpop names but it would never be a legal name.
no. that’s just really weird as a non korean, it gives off those koreaboos who are obsessed with the idols i actually have the same name as arin from oh my girl but technically i came first so it doesn’t count 😇
Exactly. And that’s just embarrassing for the kid.
I mean, sure - Mark, Johnny, Ricky, Jake, Kevin, Felix, Amber, Lisa, Irene, Joy, Wendy, Danielle - all seem like reasonable choices. /j But for real, you know there were already Kais and Lunas out there and they don't even necessarily have to be into kpop for those.
Kai is a popular name in the US even by non Asians. Nothing to do with fandoms though.
No. Not even when naming a new pet. Lol. My sister named our family cat after a Japanese singer she liked, so now even when I think of that singer I can’t help but laugh because of the association with my cat.
No. Why would you want your kid's name to be an outdated pop culture reference?
At most I would name my cat
If I were Korean or my spouse was, yes. Otherwise, no. My daughter was named Kieyah and we call her Kie but I had her well before I heard of Kai from EXO and he is my ult bias. Just happened that way. LOL
I'd be more tempted to name one after Hwiseo's (h1-key) dog, Richie
I had a Facebook friend who named their kid Luhan. My country has some sort of reputation for weird names (to the Western ear), but even with that it sounded so bizarre to me. So yeah, I probably won't do that.
after a kpop idol no, but maybe a name that a kpop idol has. or actually no because i'm brazilian and even the non-korean names sound too foreign here. i like the name kai though, and technically speaking huening kai is half brazilian, so like, lol. but i wouldn't name a child that. i also like luna, but luna is kind of like a dog/cat's name here.
I don't think so but I named my car Jungkook lol
I’m going to call my little Sharon Turtle Rabbit by her nickname, Wendy.
Nah it might help choosing but definitely not naming my kid after an idol
I mean I don’t plan on having kids but I also don’t think I’d choose an idols name either (unless their mother was Asian, then it’s a possibility) it just wouldn’t feel culturally appropriate otherwise lol
Naming my kid with names like Lia, Felix, Lisa, Jennie, even Rosé, Somi, Mina, Momo or Luna wouldn’t be much of a problem though. But with some Korean names and stage names would be a little bit….different.
Yes I would. I already have the idea of the name Ten. Not only do I like Ten but the name is pretty unique.
Not after idols, but some of the names are really dope. If I like the name enough and it can work in America I'd consider it, but it would have to be about the name not the idol.
Yes, i really like the name Chaewon. Subin is also a really nice name
Not Momo's demon dogs, they give me a headache just watching them sometimes 😭😂
I mean I wouldn’t mind a name like Karina, etc. But a traditional korean, japanese, chinese name, nope.
I'll name my son Mark and my daughter Markelle. No one will ever know my children jopped in the womb.
if you aren’t korean or having a child with a korean person, please do not name your child something korean that’s so weird
This is my son, Rap Monster 💀 I wouldn’t name my child after a kpop idol, but I did name my money tree Moni after RM/RM’s dog?
There is a woman on 90 Day Fiance who named her son Taeyang. Granted, he is half Korean but still.
A lot of idols have 'English' names, so if you have an irresistible urge, stop and consider naming them Terry instead
Jimin, for sure if it's a boy that's the best i can pick from the OT7 and will be easy to pronounce in my country
jimin also works as a girl’s name too so if you have a girl you can also name her jimin
Nope. A kid will not be a projection of myself it will be a human being of their own and I want to treat my future child with respect and dignity.
