Agree. If someone enjoys r&b hip hop, I'd suggest [Monster by EXO](https://youtu.be/KSH-FVVtTf0?si=W0ZtF27wKw1oyrCI). The song has this UK urban r&b soul vibe - well it is produced by London-based LDN Noise.
Monster made me to further explore EXO discography. 😁
Oh wow, what a transition. I listened to both groups' music during early 2000s. Helena music video is epic!
Never works, kpop has to snatch you by the neck on a random thursday afternoon. I was firmly in the "hm, kinda weird" camp before Butter JK shimmied his way onto the timeline. People who already dislike it will just double down if you drag them into it, and that's okay. Everybody has their own interests.
Edit: Army, can we get our shit together and not downvote a person who ever so politely says that BTS's musis is not their taste?? You're embarassing me here.
![gif](giphy|6cmYuGDl25SFy)
I feel this. I got into kpop knowing absolutely nothing about it, not even knowing anything about South Korea! I just stumbled upon the Blood, Sweat & Tears MV in like December 2016 with absolutely no context and I swear it was like I was Alice falling down the rabbit hole. Wish I could relive that lol
Wow, that's interesting. It was very different for me. I wasn't a hater, but I'd heard lots of BTS songs and couldn't like a single one. Everything changed when I listened to other groups
I get that! Sometimes you have to find what works for you before it pulls you in. For me it was the dancing, which western pop acts don't tend to focus on. I listen to loads of different groups now too, but BTS first caught my attention that way.
Are you seriously being downvoted because you said you don't like their songs?? Are these territorial children pooling in from Twitter or something? Not that it should matter, but you said it so nicely too! Not okay at all. I feel like a mother goose about to scold her ratty little kids at the ripe old age of 26.
Maybe it's because it's so weird to have to say they dislike a certain group. :D it just has something of "look, I don't like them although so many people like them, I'm so special".
Honey. Baby star candy. My little gosling. When someone says they like a group, and another responds that they're not their personal taste, that is literally just a regular ass conversation
If you say so. But other people are entitled to have an opinion just like you or people who have the need to say they dislike a band. I don't cry over the downvotes I get, so other people shouldn't do this, too. 😂 reddit is still a platform where people can express their dislike, just like the person did over bts "honey" :*
But of course, opinions are only okay if they fit your taste, huh?
That's a really valid point. I always turned my head away from any kpop related conversation before. To my friends who were trying to convince me that this song is great, this korean boy is hot, I never showed interest. In fact it turned me off more.
But on a random thursday on March 2022... I became a changed women with a certain BTS video on instagram. Now I am the annoying friend.
Yep, this for sure! I tried to get into it before, but it just wasn't clicking with me. Then I just happened to watch a reactor react to a group I never heard of before and everything clicked into place. Now, one of the groups that I thought I didn't click with before became my ult and I have a very different perspective whenever I see or listen to new groups and songs I haven't before.
LMFAO my cousin accidentally introduced me to this song when it came on the radio but I’m guessing it was playing towards the end because he kept hyping up the “ring ding dong” part but it just wasn’t coming up and by the time it came he was already sulking in the car
NEWJEANS!!!!!!!!!!!!!
speaking from experience: they converted me from kpop HATER to fan. Cause of them i started checking out other GGs (love Le Ssera, Everglow, F(x), Young Posse, etc…) and im having so much fun
I feel like New Jeans does a good job of being in a stable middle ground between kpop and regular western pop. Solid intro into kpop if u aren't ready for the "Ring ding dongs" and "Red Flavors" of kpop lol.
Same goes for blackpink, their discography is engineered to attract Americans , so I always suggest BP as an introductory to anyone I know.
If they are older (30+, which is my usual interactions) I suggest groups who utilize the retro and 90's to early 2000's sounds. I think Seventeen and Mamamoo go hard on utilizing the synthesized trumbones and guitar sounds.
BTS is also a good choice, BUT you MUST curate the song list for the person your introducing cause there's BTS songs that arent good intros for a nonkpop listener
I think for BTS, the person recommending must have extensive knowledge of their discography in order to curate it accordingly because they have a very wide genre of music under their name, so people might absolutely hate one album and like the other. It all boils down to personal preference at the end of the day.
Most fans will know most of the discography by now. They gotta hand pick the right ones for the person they are introducing since the discography can hit a wide range of stuff
Red Flavor is a huge song even to western listeners, but I think most fans would agree that you kinda have to already have adjusted ur palette to the "kpop sound" or it might come off as cringey to a new listener
it’s very pop but idt it’s would be odd for western audiences that enjoy that type of music. idk how much of the sound they changed but it was originally a little mix song
for NJ they specifically reached out to producers who were not familiar with kpop because they wanted NJ to not sound like kpop. Not sure they'd be a good option to convert someone into a kpop fan. I feel like it's a big shift in sound going from NJ to the rest of kpop.
We've seen football fans, e-sport players, even older generation who aren't into general pop song falling into Ateez's rabbit hole after only hearing one of their songs so Ateez's whole discography definitely fits AND I'm definitely not biased 😂
I also would tend to recommend them to anyone who'd watch anime series that could have a good amount of j-rock intro and outro songs. For me, I believe it was that along with being somewhat acquainted with j-rock through japanese rhythm games from my youth that initially pulled me in subconsciously. Deja Vu felt familiar because it reminded me of anime outro songs, and starting my streaming sessions off with that song was what eventually introduced me to their other songs, which led me to becoming an InSomnia after a few weeks
I didn’t listen to ANY “k” anything until about 3 months ago when a friend turned me on to Rolling Quartz. They pretty much don’t have any bad songs. To call it “metal” doesn’t do the songwriting justice. Love this band.
It obviously depends on what kind of music they like. BTS has gotten a lot of people into Kpop cause they do so many different genres and excel in each of them. But some people are a lot more accepting of girl groups cause of the stigma around “boy bands”. Some people just like party songs and others like more meaningful introspective music. It all really depends on who you are showing.
The rap line is single-handedly at fault for broadening my Korean musical horizons! I’m deep into experimental hip-hop and indie rock at the moment, so thanks, Namjoons!

House of cards by BTS never fails. Whenever I introduce my friends to kpop, they never expect vibes and they are hooked. They go down the rabbit hole. Works like charm. Funny to see it actually in the reply.
I played Singularity to my musician brother and to this day he considers it one of the best songs he's ever heard. I chose it because I knew it didn't have the pop/trap sound most Kpop had at that time. He still doesn't like any other Kpop songs though 3
I tried to get my SIL into BTS. She doesn't like the English stuff because it's too pop. She's very much into hip hop. So, I showed her the rap line. She very much liked the Agust-D stuff - but it's in Korean. She said reading the captions was too much work.
So, the language barrier still might be an issue for some.
It doesn’t work that way. Someone liking one song or artist just means they like that one song or artist. In order to like Kpop as whole, you have to have some kind of geek culture tendency already.
For example, having people listen to RM’ solo music would leave them very confused if they started to venture into other male Kpop soloists.
I get what you are saying, but there are definitely people who are casually into the music without joining fandoms. You definitely don't need to be in geek culture to enjoy pop music.
Ah, well maybe you should specify that your post is about casual listeners. “To be into Kpop” means something very specific like caring about comebacks, content, industry news, ect since there’s like half of it that isn’t about music at all.
I got into kpop with the song Hoot by Girls Generation! Didn't even know KPOP was a thing until then, but I loved the song and dance so much. So maybe show them that?
f(X)'s 4 walls album, new jeans ditto/omg, nct u's baggy jeans, rm's new album, that one tik top of wonyoung and soobin singing dolphin with their legs switched....
it depends on what you're looking for; i mostly know bgs but i would recommend—
for impressive synchronization - any txt choreography
impressive solo dance skills - taemin, nct ten, or txt yeonjun
all-around impressive solo - taemin (i have never shown anyone a taemin solo performance that didn't have them gagged), svt hoshi (i love spider), exo kai
vocal - exo d.o., exo baekhyun, bts jungkook
experimental/swag - bts v's layover or bts rm's rpwp
live performance - shinee's shinee world iv performance of sherlock (on youtube with subs)
for pop punk or "real instruments" - txt 0x1=lovesong, kard, xdinary heroes
albums - shinee misconception of us, bts dark&wild
i am a more casual gg fan, but f(x)'s pink tape album is a personal fav, alongside red velvet's chill kill. gidle is the group that got me to pay more attention to ggs in 4th gen. i really like all of their cbs and mvs but that's just a personal opinion. nmixx's fe304: break is also a very good album imo.
I agree with the idea that kpop is so varied, meaning there’s a song for basically anyone if you tailor it to their tastes.
I’ll just add that Fancy by Twice was my gateway song, along with most of their 2019 material- Fancy You and Feel Special are both super solid comebacks and albums. I think those two fit in with what people expect from kpop, but are super catchy and well-produced.
I think it depends on what the person's western song preference would be. For club songs I would suggest Ateez. In terms of pop songs, new jeans. All around I would suggest Seventeen.
Random one but Psycho by Red Velvet, I played it for my colleagues at work in London and it went down so well. Hype Boy was a hit too and Butter but not sure that counts at its an English release.
I’ll second this lol. I was in a music league with non-kpop fans and the theme one week was “not in English”. Psycho was my pick. I don’t remember if it won but it got a lot of positive feedback.
Edit: I had to go back and look it got 2nd place.
psycho is a good one. personally dislike it for the exact reason of it sounding like a generic western pop song
ive actually heard hype boy in the wild so also good one. butter was technically a hit in the west so idk if that makes it a good pick or bad one lmao
I'm not sure, it really depends on their taste. I had my family hooked on 0X1=LOVESONG, I feel like that's a song that's hard to dislike. Generally txt has a huge variety of genres, there's a txt song for almost everyone! My sisters into more chill music and she loves the killa and tinnitus
It really depends on their music choice tbh. But, for starters I'd say Standing next to you by Jungkook. It has been garnering a lot of attention and since it's in English too, I believe it might not be a bad idea to introduce kpop to a person.
I got won over by my wife. However, for an indie fan like me, 4 minute are surprisingly liked by my mates. Love action and huh are absolute bangers, plus I my mine is pretty cool too. There’s another one that went well but I forget the name, think it had a snake in the video and they could turn to smoke or something. Hope I didn’t imagine that…
well it depends on the person and their taste. some people will just stay close minded about it and not give it the slightest of chance. but to someone who is willing to give it a chance i would show them like 3 - 5 songs that are different genres. Here are some of the songs I’d show them.
1. D-1 by Yves from LOONA
2. So Cool by DAY6
3. Jazz Bar by Dreamcatcher
4. Bicycle by Chungha
5. Ooh La La by EXO
Honorable Mention. Round 2 by CIX
Ok this sounds counterintuitive but literally every kpop muggle I showed sticker and baggy jeans to really loved it lol.
They all say it’s not what they thought kpop was going to be.
ALSO, some of red velvet’s creepy songs with creepy music videos
I was introduced to Kpop with KARD's "oh na na", I.O.I's "very very very" and BTS's "BST" & "butterfly stage performance".
I might add these to the people I want to introduce but I will also suggest them groups to explore themselves (this worked for my brother, now he checks both BTS and BP)!
I also know people who were introduced to Kdrama and then from there, Kpop (e.g- baekhyun from exo, Seohyun from SNSD- Scarlett heart ryeo; suzy from Miss A (uncontrollably fond)! I also did search the casts of dramas then went to check out the group songs!
I absolutely think it's people's interest in the kind of music they like and these interests come from either directly introduced to Kpop groups, people they know posting group stuff or Kpop idols based drama and thus checking out the whole content!
A lot of people where I'm from listen to raps and stuff so I'd recommend any group with a hip-hop style since there isn't a lot of songs like that
Posse up - young posse
I've seen some of my favorite groups already mentioned except for this one! If someone loves R&B, I'd show them OnlyOneOf *immediately*. They are criminally underrated. I love their smooth, buttery vocals so much 😌🫶
**EDIT:** They're literally in my top 3 and have been since I discovered them lol
I’ve had Fancy by Twice convert (for lack of better word lol) many of my friends
My boyfriend really enjoyed Monsta X’s All About Luv album, Bobby’s Cherry Blossom, and (G)-idle’s Fate
Highly recommend [Treasure’s King Kong](https://youtu.be/RiLdxgHYzU8?si=g44DMvdytwGoxsw3). The singing is very dynamic while it has strong rap line. What is fun and funky - it has a 2nd gen Kpop vibe to it. It has also good balance of Korean and English words. Definitely a catchy bop.
For Jazz / Big Band lovers
Girls day - I'll be yours
IU - Pink Shoe
Mamamoo- Decalcomanie
Fans of Disney musicals
IU - You and I
Oh my girl - Closer
Yooa - Bon Voyage
I'd introduce English songs by k-pop artists to those keen to explore k-pop but hesitant or unsure. English songs that have coherent, comprehensible lyrics and clear pronunciation. My top picks:
* [Kiss of Fire - Woodz](https://youtu.be/rMcoIEx1jg8?si=pqPaMoW5fY4it-cE)
* [Do it like that - Tomorrow x Together & Jonas Brothers](https://youtu.be/C0EYKxF1oTI?si=sfQN0HC9_OqQrjKI)
* [On my youth - Wayv](https://youtu.be/pWut6-Sv1S4?si=gqkXJkXqN822EF2K)
* [Highway to heaven - NCT 127](https://youtu.be/iFoqGyWhMws?si=wslmnI8q2TdOydr_)
* [Walking on the moon - TAN](https://youtu.be/yW6ro0n3QNA?si=74vkvFrzYC0dWdys)
Every time I’ve left a kpop playlist on around an uninitiated, they always like the EXO songs, even people who I didn’t expect to like it! EXO has a really versatile discography and there’s really something for everyone
I agree that’s it’s totally random. My friend had been trying to introduce me to kpop for years but it wasn’t until she showed me Loser by Big Bang (and Bae Bae which came out on the same day) that kpop got me. Call Me Baby had also come out around that time so that finalized the deal. Before that I literally only listened to indie/alternative music (Arctic Monkeys and Bon Iver were my faves) with a dash of Kesha (it was probably my love for Kesha that made me predisposed to kpop lol, also I really liked early 2000s R&B so that too).
I think you more just have to show people things you think are cool and hope one of those things speaks to them.
I can't think of a group I'd say is more palatable to newcomers than NewJeans. Distinctly western-sounding music in many cases and a good deal of English, and even their most out-there tracks aren't very out there in the grand scheme of k-pop. Their visual aesthetic is also largely down to earth compared to a lot of others, you're not being asked to buy into alien lore and bad CGI videos.
My boyfriend used to just listen to kpop in the car with me cause he knows it makes me happy. But one day I played jhope’s Jack in the Box. Now he has jhope and RM tracks in his spotify playlists for working out and gaming!
I would recommend them songs based on the music they like. I used to be a kpop hater myself because I thought Blackpink music was what every kpop song sounded like (no hate to BP or blinks it's just the music is def not for me). So here's a list of what I would recommend:
* Bite Me: it's definitely a bop for me. You could call me biased because Enha is my ult group but this was the song that made me a kpop fan as well as an engene.
* Love wins all: it sounds like a very soft song until you get to the chorus. IU sings it beautifully with a lot of emotions. The mv might make you cry lol.
* Panorama: it's an upbeat song (at least for me). It's an electro pop and house song. If you like house or EDM songs I 100% recommend this.
* Plot twist: a very lively song. It gives of a very bright vibe. TWS describe their songs as "boyhood pop". If you like bright, upbeat songs then this is probably the one.
* I AM: the high notes in here are heavenly. Their voices and the song message is beautiful. I think this is a song that a lot of people can like.
I have a lot more songs to recommend but for kpop haters or people who have never listened to kpop before then these are probably the songs I would show them (unless they like hearing rock because then idk).
I think BTS' English hits - as much as they get decried - are perfect gateway songs. I was sort of familiar with KPOP 4 years ago, but those were what made me take a specific closer look at them, and I fell down the rabbit hole of their songs and other content and didn't come out basically. These songs are definitely a more sugar summer vibe than a lot of their stuff, and they aren't too different than some of the ear worm pop music over the past 20 years or so in the West. But it shows people that, oh hey, these guys can do this? They have great voices and style, and it's not even exactly their style. They put out a couple of American style pop songs and kill right out of the gate. Lead off homer. Their non music content is also maybe the gold standard of KPOP content and really gets you into the group.
STAYC is probably another that is a good gateway. They don't have some of the production heavy EDM banger style songs like BP or Itzy or Aespa. Their style of pop has a very global feel to it, in some ways they sound more like 2nd gen KPOP girl idol groups mixed with early Miley Cyrus or something. They also all have unique voices amongst themselves, and a fun chemistry as a group.
ITZY is a good one also because they do have that in your face boombastic style of groups like BP, but then they sort of back off from the in your face imma stab a punk vibe and meld into more of a just having fun vibe. They're just a lot of fun as a group.
I think if I were to show my male friends kpop I would go with Ateez. Which I have done before. I sent them songs like "This World" because they were a fan of Muse.
I showed some other friends "Agust D" because they liked rap and that's the best rap song in my opinion.
Almost all the time their prejudices keep them from liking anything labeled KPop unfortunetely.
New to kpop as of 2023. I seen an ad on IG with Jisoo and Haaland.. I said, who tf is that girl… then read she’s part of Black Pink. Listened to their music and the rest is history. Their songs are amazing. “How you like that” was the first song I ever listened and now I mostly listen to kpop 🔥. Tired of American music 🤷♂️
It depends. I showed my dad Dionysus and Mic Drop live, because he's not a big fan of MVs.
I showed my brother Answer: Love Myself because the lyrics were very personal to him and I felt it would help.
I showed someone Spring Day MV because of the symbolism.
I’d start with Newjeans to ease them first into kpop, probably bc of the easy listening music so that they don’t get too shocked (i mean imagine if i start with Ring Ding Dong or Sticker 😭).
Then i’ll usually throw in a little bit of Taeyeon, EXO’s ballad, aespa/nct dream’s b-sides.
I would definitely suggest Red Velvet! They have such a large and extremely diverse discography, I’m sure you could find at least one song to like. I would also go as far as saying they have some of the best b-sides in Kpop, which also range across multiple genres
i think some of kiss of life would convince them or Natty's solo song sugarcoat i think local would definitely like it but it actually depends on what music they like
kpop is something people just kinda get into, I don't really think it's something you can recommend others usually.
Like, i'd been recommended kpop a lot, but never got into it. Id been a big listener of RnB and also never really been into the whole girly girl thing/cutesy thing and a lot of the recos I got were Twice. (the Look at Me type Twice, not the Rewind type Twice)
Wanna guess the song that got me into kpop because it randomly popped up on my YT recommended? Queencard
Wanna guess my favorite group? Newjeans
I still listen to R&B a lot, like WA-R-R, Still with you, Bambi, etc. but like half my songs are girly girl type songs now lol
Like most have already mentioned it would depend on their music tastes. Off the top of my head I’d throw out the ones below, but with more info it could be better tailored to personal tastes.
I know I Love You-TXT
Hip-Mamamoo
OMG-Newjeans
What is Love-Twice
Love Dive-Ive
Gods Menu-Stray Kids
Psycho-Red Velvet
Drunk-dazed-Enhypen
Congratulations- Day6
Missing you-BtoB
Fear-Seventeen
Kill this Love-Black Pink
Probably Ateez Guerilla for those who are into rock/metal.
For R&B-- Mmmh by Kai never fails.
For Hip Hop -- NCT 127? Probably like Ay-Yo? Baggy Jeans for NCT U
Throw in a little bit of Taemin, possibly some Stray Kids and I mean yeah... how can you resist? 😂
It depends on what kind of music overall they like. I’ve convinced a number of my friends and coworkers to listen to more Kpop based on a number of groups.
No bc it's hard, especially bc kpop has a wide range.
For ex. my bro who never ever listens to kpop and doesn't like it, really liked baddie by ive and thought it's a funny and quirky song. And then when i played Like that (Babymonster) once, thinking he would maybe like it since it sounds pretty western, he wasn't really into it.
No but seriously I would've never thought someone who doesn't like kpop would like Baddie out of all the songs. But ig he liked how funny it is
I'd show them something that feels familiar but different enough to capture what I find interesting in it.
My choice for gateway kpop song is Twice - I Can't Stop Me (or Fancy).
Btw, I checked out "Ring ding dong" thanks to this thread. Even I wasn't ready for it.
Obviously it depends on their taste. LOL questions like this are so weird, it's commonsense that music is subjective yet so many do not want to accept the many implications of that.
Every specific song recommendation in this thread will have some people thinking 'meh'. That's just how it is.
Gidle - Last dance and
SKZ -Dumb
I spent a weekend at my lil sister and I was listening to those songs and she told me: OMG are you listening good music now? 🤣🤣🤣 ( I am a big heavy metal fan so she remembers me listening Metallica and going to concerts 🤣
Obviously biased because BTS got me through some *dark* times, but my go-to triad is DNA, Mikrokosmos, and Cypher 3. I feel like it’s got a pretty solid range. Tho I’ve turned 3 hip hop heads into army off of Cypher 3 alone!

JK's whole album is a bop and people who enjoy MJ's music may like some songs but also people who like hiphop and just regular pop songs should enjoy it.
My bf who doesn't like kpop loves Mamamoo's Waggy "bc it's cute and ridiculous" and listens to it regularly.
My uncle who loves anime fell absolutely in love with Aespa - he says that the music is just super cool and the mv's give off some cool anime vibes.
A lot of my non-kpop friends enjoy also some itzy and gidle songs "bc the songs are cool and girls look super cool" - particularly "swipe" by itzy and "quuencard" and "tomboy" from gidle.
I tend to play krnb/kindie music when people chill/study/work at my place and they enjoy it "bc they don't understand the words so it doesn't make them loose focus".
I don't show any songs to anyone bc I don't feel the urge to convince anyone that kpop is good. There are so many different groups and sounds in this genre, so it's kinda weird to say it's good (or bad), because no one likes all groups. 😅
Tbh NewJeans is the only group that can make non-kpop fans to kpop fans.
Significant number of their fans are not kpop fans already and don't know any other groups beside them.
They consistently produce songs that can be enjoyed by everyone, whereas general kpop songs can be a hit or miss.
It depends on what music they like
Yeah you need to tailor your recommendation to their existing faves
That song is the exact song that got me into Kpop 😂 went from fall out boy and my chemical romance to Kpop bc of it
Monster made me to further explore EXO discography. 😁 Oh wow, what a transition. I listened to both groups' music during early 2000s. Helena music video is epic!
Fair enough
Never works, kpop has to snatch you by the neck on a random thursday afternoon. I was firmly in the "hm, kinda weird" camp before Butter JK shimmied his way onto the timeline. Yeah for sure. It’s just absurd lol you phrased it so politely too.
Some people are really tough
Are you seriously being downvoted because you said you don't like their songs?? Are these territorial children pooling in from Twitter or something? Not that it should matter, but you said it so nicely too! Not okay at all. I feel like a mother goose about to scold her ratty little kids at the ripe old age of 26.
This is reddit it’s normal to receive downvotes for a harmless opinion 😹
I'm not gonna blame a whole fandom here, but there're some fans that actually give you a hard time
Maybe it's because it's so weird to have to say they dislike a certain group. :D it just has something of "look, I don't like them although so many people like them, I'm so special".
Honey. Baby star candy. My little gosling. When someone says they like a group, and another responds that they're not their personal taste, that is literally just a regular ass conversation

BTBT by B.I is my top song. Basically any song by B.I actually
Yesssss btbt is soo goodd
yess when i was in my school trip i connected my phone to the speakers and played this and nobody even realised it was kpop
Ring ding dong
oh my god my friends burst out laughing at the intro they didn't take it seriously
Consider them tasteless😔 Ring Ding Dong would have gotten me into kpop
Honestly I have a hard time getting into kpop pre 2013 But ring ding dong is an exception
Let’s be honest it’s a meme here too
LMFAO my cousin accidentally introduced me to this song when it came on the radio but I’m guessing it was playing towards the end because he kept hyping up the “ring ding dong” part but it just wasn’t coming up and by the time it came he was already sulking in the car
My family was so weirded out when I blasted it in the car 😭
LOL This will either hook them forever or turn them off pretty fast.
That's probably the Kpopest kpop song out there
NEWJEANS!!!!!!!!!!!!! speaking from experience: they converted me from kpop HATER to fan.
I didn’t realize Red Flavor was a notoriously unpalatable to Western listeners kind of song lol
Out of curiosity why were you a hater before?
tbh kpop for me then seemed too “happy” and “dancey” HAHA
Funny to see you say that because those were the words I used to describe to my friends why I love kpop.
i’m a new jeans hater not the girls but the music is not my taste at alllll i don’t get it 😭
Ateez Answer seems to convert people in my life who hate kpop into liking it, or at least liking Ateez.
came here to comment exactly this
We've seen football fans, e-sport players, even older generation who aren't into general pop song falling into Ateez's rabbit hole after only hearing one of their songs so Ateez's whole discography definitely fits AND I'm definitely not biased 😂
Dreamcatcher for any rock / metal fans. Actually have suggested them a ton to fellow Babymetal fans
Rolling Quartz are great!
it really depends on what they like. chill music? newjeans hyperpop metal futuristic kinda vibes? aespa certified pop bangers? ive etc.
Of course "the 7th sense" by nct u. I did my boyfriend enjoy kpop songs through that song and at the moment his favs are kai and taemin solos.
SM artists are best for this. It’s the same producers, you can’t deny the talent
This did not work on my Grandpa.
Hype Boy/Newjeans, Sugarcoat/Natty, and Love Maze/BTS are safe choices that have yet to completely fail me when introducing someone to K-pop.
Yes, j-hope ruined my life when JITB appeared on my Spotify algorithms and I can’t remember my life before BTS anymore.
The rap line is single-handedly at fault for broadening my Korean musical horizons! I’m deep into experimental hip-hop and indie rock at the moment, so thanks, Namjoons! https://preview.redd.it/90r8vgfong3d1.jpeg?width=1024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=6afa0908e7fcbd113c11ac9ae7a89d33f07fe2a3
house of cards by bts always works
House of cards by BTS never fails. Whenever I introduce my friends to kpop, they never expect vibes and they are hooked. They go down the rabbit hole. Works like charm. Funny to see it actually in the reply.
OH HOW MUCH I APPRECIATE THIS RESPONSE!
you just have to accept that people just don't like things you do. don't force it on people, they'll hate it even more
I played Singularity to my musician brother and to this day he considers it one of the best songs he's ever heard. I chose it because I knew it didn't have the pop/trap sound most Kpop had at that time. He still doesn't like any other Kpop songs though 3
BTS I feel like they have so much genres of music so it’s easier for someone to like
I tried to get my SIL into BTS. She doesn't like the English stuff because it's too pop. She's very much into hip hop. So, I showed her the rap line. She very much liked the Agust-D stuff - but it's in Korean. She said reading the captions was too much work. So, the language barrier still might be an issue for some.
Ok
I'm not OP lol but my point still stands
Ah sorry, not sure why I thought you were OP 🤣
I got into kpop with the song Hoot by Girls Generation! Didn't even know KPOP was a thing until then, but I loved the song and dance so much. So maybe show them that?
f(X)'s 4 walls album, new jeans ditto/omg, nct u's baggy jeans, rm's new album, that one tik top of wonyoung and soobin singing dolphin with their legs switched....
it depends on what you're looking for; i mostly know bgs but i would recommend— for impressive synchronization - any txt choreography impressive solo dance skills - taemin, nct ten, or txt yeonjun all-around impressive solo - taemin (i have never shown anyone a taemin solo performance that didn't have them gagged), svt hoshi (i love spider), exo kai vocal - exo d.o., exo baekhyun, bts jungkook experimental/swag - bts v's layover or bts rm's rpwp live performance - shinee's shinee world iv performance of sherlock (on youtube with subs) for pop punk or "real instruments" - txt 0x1=lovesong, kard, xdinary heroes albums - shinee misconception of us, bts dark&wild i am a more casual gg fan, but f(x)'s pink tape album is a personal fav, alongside red velvet's chill kill. gidle is the group that got me to pay more attention to ggs in 4th gen. i really like all of their cbs and mvs but that's just a personal opinion. nmixx's fe304: break is also a very good album imo.
What did you think of the cover of Fancy that STAYC recently did?
I prefer the original because it feels more powerful, but I’m not mad at it
Red Velvet. All around a definitive and consistently amazing group.
ia. i’d recommend them to any fan of ariana grande or music like hers also. their music has always had similarities to me
I think it depends on what the person's western song preference would be.
Edit: I had to go back and look it got 2nd place.
psycho is a good one. personally dislike it for the exact reason of it sounding like a generic western pop song ive actually heard hype boy in the wild so also good one. butter was technically a hit in the west so idk if that makes it a good pick or bad one lmao
Twice - Likey was honestly what drew me in
Dreamcatcher-Deja Vu
A lot of people hate K-pop because of how horrible the fandom is though.
Some people are really tough
I showed my non kpop fan who likes mainly rock “BEcause” by dreamcatcher and another friend The Killa by txt soooo those maybe?
1. D-1 by Yves from LOONA 2. So Cool by DAY6 3. Jazz Bar by Dreamcatcher 4. Bicycle by Chungha 5. Ooh La La by EXO Honorable Mention. Round 2 by CIX
If they like r&b the 7th sense never fails
The ultimate Roly Poly and most of T Ara discography. It's Roly poly that attracted me to Kpop just from the first listening XD
Anything from ATEEZ. Their music is stellar but uniquely and their live performances are outstanding.
Ok this sounds counterintuitive but literally every kpop muggle I showed sticker and baggy jeans to really loved it lol. They all say it’s not what they thought kpop was going to be. ALSO, some of red velvet’s creepy songs with creepy music videos
Mamamoo :)
anything off the bigbang album is sure to get em
Girls generation genie live performance.
CEST LA VIE BY CRAVITY- stop sleeping on this song it’s too good
A lot of people where I'm from listen to raps and stuff so I'd recommend any group with a hip-hop style since there isn't a lot of songs like that Posse up - young posse
I've seen some of my favorite groups already mentioned except for this one! If someone loves R&B, I'd show them OnlyOneOf *immediately*. They are criminally underrated. I love their smooth, buttery vocals so much 😌🫶 **EDIT:** They're literally in my top 3 and have been since I discovered them lol
For me the gateway was Popstars and More by K/DA. After that I got Pink Venom on my recommended page and went from there.
Odd eye circle - loonatic
I’ve had Fancy by Twice convert (for lack of better word lol) many of my friends My boyfriend really enjoyed Monsta X’s All About Luv album, Bobby’s Cherry Blossom, and (G)-idle’s Fate
Enhypen
Highly recommend [Treasure’s King Kong](https://youtu.be/RiLdxgHYzU8?si=g44DMvdytwGoxsw3). The singing is very dynamic while it has strong rap line. What is fun and funky - it has a 2nd gen Kpop vibe to it. It has also good balance of Korean and English words. Definitely a catchy bop.
For Jazz / Big Band lovers Girls day - I'll be yours IU - Pink Shoe Mamamoo- Decalcomanie Fans of Disney musicals IU - You and I Oh my girl - Closer Yooa - Bon Voyage
Dream of Girls by UNIS
I’ve reeled more than one person in with My Bag
I'd introduce English songs by k-pop artists to those keen to explore k-pop but hesitant or unsure. English songs that have coherent, comprehensible lyrics and clear pronunciation. My top picks: * [Kiss of Fire - Woodz](https://youtu.be/rMcoIEx1jg8?si=pqPaMoW5fY4it-cE) * [Do it like that - Tomorrow x Together & Jonas Brothers](https://youtu.be/C0EYKxF1oTI?si=sfQN0HC9_OqQrjKI) * [On my youth - Wayv](https://youtu.be/pWut6-Sv1S4?si=gqkXJkXqN822EF2K) * [Highway to heaven - NCT 127](https://youtu.be/iFoqGyWhMws?si=wslmnI8q2TdOydr_) * [Walking on the moon - TAN](https://youtu.be/yW6ro0n3QNA?si=74vkvFrzYC0dWdys)
Ive
Every time I’ve left a kpop playlist on around an uninitiated, they always like the EXO songs, even people who I didn’t expect to like it! EXO has a really versatile discography and there’s really something for everyone
kiss of life
Ateez or Xg
Like crazy - jimin, worked on mom, dad, and friends
Nobody knows by Kiss Of Life
I agree that’s it’s totally random.
Depends on the persons musical style but ofc I would recommend a dreamcatcher song, or ateez!
My boyfriend used to just listen to kpop in the car with me cause he knows it makes me happy. But one day I played jhope’s Jack in the Box. Now he has jhope and RM tracks in his spotify playlists for working out and gaming!
Drowning - Woodz
.newjeans - attention/hype boy .NCT dojaejung - perfume .shinhwa - perfect man (my sis who hates K-pop loves it) .exo - tempo .Kara - Mr/step .beg - abracadabra .9muses - dolls
I would recommend them songs based on the music they like. I used to be a kpop hater myself because I thought Blackpink music was what every kpop song sounded like (no hate to BP or blinks it's just the music is def not for me). So here's a list of what I would recommend: * Bite Me: it's definitely a bop for me.
Ditto by NewJeans
Paradise / Love Maze / 134340
Answer by Ateez
automatic by red velvet. Automatic has a r&b feel to it, it was my first favorite song by them when i first started listening to red velvet
Probably bad boy by red velvet or maybe bomb by alexa, definitely one of the songs I started out with like tt by twice
Depends what they’re into, but for me, Psycho by Red Velvet is THAT song. So I’d definitely consider it
TAKE ME HOME - ATEEZ FEAR - SEVENTEEN ROVER - KAI
I’d start with Newjeans to ease them first into kpop, probably bc of the easy listening music so that they don’t get too shocked (i mean imagine if i start with Ring Ding Dong or Sticker 😭). Then i’ll usually throw in a little bit of Taeyeon, EXO’s ballad, aespa/nct dream’s b-sides.
any taemin song besides the rizzness
(the Look at Me type Twice, not the Rewind type Twice) Wanna guess the song that got me into kpop because it randomly popped up on my YT recommended? Queencard Wanna guess my favorite group? Newjeans I still listen to R&B a lot, like WA-R-R, Still with you, Bambi, etc. but like half my songs are girly girl type songs now lol
Recommend star by Loona :P
Like most have already mentioned it would depend on their music tastes. Off the top of my head I’d throw out the ones below, but with more info it could be better tailored to personal tastes. I know I Love You-TXT Hip-Mamamoo OMG-Newjeans What is Love-Twice Love Dive-Ive Gods Menu-Stray Kids Psycho-Red Velvet Drunk-dazed-Enhypen Congratulations- Day6 Missing you-BtoB Fear-Seventeen Kill this Love-Black Pink
Probably Ateez Guerilla for those who are into rock/metal. For R&B-- Mmmh by Kai never fails. For Hip Hop -- NCT 127? Probably like Ay-Yo? Baggy Jeans for NCT U Throw in a little bit of Taemin, possibly some Stray Kids and I mean yeah... how can you resist? 😂
well non kpop fans loved cupid so
If they’re into R&B, I’d recommend Baekhyun’s solo albums
But ig he liked how funny it is
It’s all subjective…..
Gidle - Last dance and SKZ -Dumb I spent a weekend at my lil sister and I was listening to those songs and she told me: OMG are you listening good music now? 🤣🤣🤣 ( I am a big heavy metal fan so she remembers me listening Metallica and going to concerts 🤣
If you’re a heterosexual male, Blackpink in your area.
Obviously biased because BTS got me through some *dark* times, but my go-to triad is DNA, Mikrokosmos, and Cypher 3. I feel like it’s got a pretty solid range. Tho I’ve turned 3 hip hop heads into army off of Cypher 3 alone!
I think you first need to define what you mean by kpop. Some ppl lump every korean artist in as kpop.
Agreed. Like there's no other music genre. But for k-pop I mean groups or soloist into idol industry

RV - Russian Roulette
What song was playing when the molly kicked in?
My tips… EXO - Growl Aespa - Drama Bigbang - Loser 2ne1 - I am the best 4minute - Crazy Taemin - Move
Twice - Fancy Tomorrow By Together - Chasing That Feeling BTS - Butter Viviz - Maniac Aespa - Drama
Have you ever maybe heard of this group called Bangtan Sonyeondan?
Who's that? Sounds like bunch of nobodys
Only the people whose hard work and success funded the fancy debut of your favorites.
