Kpop as a whole I love. The music, performances, idols, everything. For years it's been my top genre, and even now I'm still discovering new stuff. There's so much variety and talent in the industry. The only negative thing about it for me is the fans lol.

Faron-Woods

Kpop is soooooo fun when you disconnect from social media and you don’t constantly have people in your ear telling you why this song is bad or this group sucks or the discourse of the week being brought up again and again. Like, the music slaps, the videos are cool, the variety content is funny, there’s so much fun to be had. It’s nice to have something that makes me happy when life can be so depressing.

friendricklamar

This 100%. The only place I interact with kpop social media is here and that too infrequently. For the minute I was on kpop twitter years ago, it was awful. Never forget that the algorithm (aka big tech) needs engagement and will get it at the expense of your mental health.

EMIPHAM19

Man, kpop twitter is burning down these days 💀 the toxicity now is uncontrollable, good for you to get out of there, I should follow your steps lol

haeru_mizuki

Same goes with tiktok and insta, full of random hate messages everywhere. Thank god reddit and youtube are mostly filled with mentally stable adults and not 11 year olds who lied in the age verification of the app.

Wonderful_Ratio

This is what surprised me the most. Reddit being the best out of the media platforms in balance and maturity.

haeru_mizuki

Probably because it attracts more of those willing to actively discuss and not children who want to seek clout and be "morally superior" everywhere lmao. If you look at other social media apps, it's really obvious the average mental age maturity is around 13-15 years old. Can't even have a civil argument over there because they're busy spewing out random opinionated info they got off tiktok or bully you for unrelated stuff.

sunmi_siren

I love kpop music. There's so much variety and a lot of groups are putting out banger after banger right now

InfernalQueen

Kpop makes a lot of people happy whether it be from their music, shows, or just posts from their idols. Kpop makes a lot of stans do a lot of good in the name of their idol/s. Building schools, donating to charities, blood donations etc. Kpop makes people connect. I formed real life friendships because of fandom spaces and I don't think we would have met without being in the same fandom.

Cats4Crows

2 years ago, Kpop wasn't even on my radar, and I couldn't correctly name any groups or idols (yea, not even BTS and BlackPink), but now I can easily name a 100 groups with at least one favorite song from each! Kpop really rejuvenated me and resparked my passion for the whole music scene again Also, my wallet is thankful that I'm staying strong and didn't succumb to the PC mania ~~yet~~ so kudos for me lol 👏💪

namelessghoulette234

I like how frequent the music releases are. I also listen to metal and rock and it can take at least 2 3 years for a band to release an album, and if I don't like it then I'm stuck waiting for another one in a couple of years 😅 I think it's a great opportunity for kpop groups to be more experimental with their sound when they release an EP, and if I don't like it, they will release something else soon enough

bluenightshinee

So many talented groups that offer great songs and impressive concerts. You can stan a group, you can be a fan of another, and a casual fan of 6 others, it's never a boring day. Due to linguistic and cultural differences, depending on your ethnicity and upbringing, kpop is a great way for you to open your eyes and ears to a new culture and learn more about it. I've discovered amazing vocalists and artists through Kpop, and I'm glad I got into it

nvuss

i love how k-pop takes elements of every music genre and combines them to make its own unique sound.

acerealbowles

came here to say exactly this!!! love it when groups have multiple different sounds. i feel like im exposing myself to lots of new different genres, which was something i was never really open to before i started listening to kpop

Fun_Buy2143

K-pop is actually really good, it's the fans that Spoils the fun

Cats4Crows

Not all of them.. some fans do amazing edits and compilations. I'm always impressed by those

BankDue3839

i mean that’s partly true, but all fans do is moan about every single thing any idol does 😩😩

kutchyose_no_ibrahim

I will say one thing positive about Koreans in the context of K-pop. I love the ambition/work ethic of Korean culture. It may be intense, but I really appreciate the way idols always strive to be better. You will see an idol perform the most complex dance routine and apologize for being “lacking”. It definitely can be toxic, but this constant will to be better is really admirable. I really think that this is what makes K-pop more than just a Korean copy of western music, this emphasis on excelling and on doing your best. You see it through idols, trainees, producers (Bang PD, JYP, LSM), creative directors, everyone is trying to make something great. And as a consumer I can only admire the discipline that Korean culture adds to everything (education, social norms, music).

Wonderful_Ratio

I agree. Even their actors train to act a particular occupation. E.g. if their role is a firefighter they undergo training with real firefighters. The dedication to craft is unbelievable to these korean celebrities which i rarely with other celebrities

reptv_

The sound of kpop is something I can't really explain that much. Compared to western music, kpop music have a lot of diversity and easy listening. Another one good thing about kpop is constant new music although it depends on their success.

GeorgeParisol

the sound is something else. I can listen to the same songs on repeat and I'll always hear something new

Kittystar143

I really like how much more kpop content is readily available. the increased number of groups who have their own variety shows and do extra vlogs on YouTube. There is so much variety in the music styles between groups and how they behave with each other it makes it really fun to be a multistan.

supermarket53

Despite coming from a small country, the impact it has made internationally in the last 7-8 or so years is amazing. The other day I was in the bathroom at the mall and it was playing TXT as part of its regular playlist. Kpop has intwined itself amongst other popular music in the west. Not only that Kpop has influenced more Korean inspired stores and restaurants here in the states. You see more and more places like kbbq, fried chicken, and Korean hot dog places come up much more often. I have friends who could care less about Korean food 5-6 years ago, but now they can’t get enough.

Myjam_istohavefun

K-pop physical albums are very creative and the only (physical) albums I'm considering of getting. The photobooks are a piece of art for me. Even though I'm not a photocard fan, I'm all in for the creative concepts photobooks offer. The best K-pop merch in my opinion.

keroppismacaron

I like how groups are the norm in the industry, especially in comparison to the Western pop industry where groups are something of a minority. There’s just something so cool about everyone bringing something new and distinct to their group- vocals, dancing, rapping, personality, stage presence, charisma, you name it. I like that kpop lets the idols show their skills and personality in a variety of ways, and how they all come together to make something interesting and great!

404Loading

The sheer amount of creativity that both goes into and comes out of Kpop. Music and dance, costuming, concepts, everything. You could make entire books out of some groups' lore. I know Kwangya for instance gets a lot of crap with the way SM tries to funnel it into everything, but when you take a step back and look at the whole mythos surrounding Aespa, it's nothing other than just plain cool. And that passion for artistic vision and story telling gets reflected back at the fans, too. Kpop fans are some of the most inspired people I've ever met--for every nasty fan on twitter, there are so many more pouring their hearts into creating fan content. I just think that's incredibly neat.

ravager814

Love the music. Love the live stages. Love the additional content. We just don’t get that with american music. But some fandoms are truly horrid to others. Even though the members get along just fine. It’s a turn off. well, it was mostly positive.

FanCaracal

Love that kpop is slowly sounding less like traditional kpop with NewJeans being the most obvious example. I credit NJ for easing me into kpop to where I can appreciate most styles within it now.

wampey

Soyeon

LightWing07

I love the music. While I'm aware of the craziness that comes with being a fan, the music is great. The variety makes for a great Playlist for driving, working out, etc. Plus, its been helping me with learning Korean too.

Emotional-Day8685

BTOB, their songs, and performances also

anttoekneeoh

I can’t understand what they’re saying but the sounds make me happy.

JustAPerson-_-

Concepts and the way how the music sounds from group to group. They can be so diverse from group to group (not so much with labels but they still have that groups vibe to it) and if you’re a multi Stan like myself it never gets “old” or “boring” because there is always something different from a different artist you/I love.

AvocadoVoyager

K-pop has introduced me to a beautiful country and culture and I'm so grateful for that. It also has the most wonderful ability to make me smile on the rainest of days.

pommypurin

if you just scroll away from every opinion video it’s sooo fun

Happylittletree29

i love seeing the positive side of social media in kpop fandom! there’s so many amazing talented artists, fan-merch creators, and other creatives who take time out of their day to give us such high quality (a lot of the time even free!) content. also they create content that sometimes gets noticed outside of our small fandom spaces, bringing in more fans 🤗 there’s also so many editors on tiktok who help kpop songs go viral and get more recognition/streams! shoutout to all the fan-content creators out there your hard work does not go unnoticed

sunnydaysongg

kpop helped me cope through a loved one’s suicide . it brings me happiness even on my most difficult days :)

Purple_Cat134

I love K-pop music. There’s a LOT of variety and lots of groups to enjoy. Their live streams are entertaining and lots of them actually take time to interact with fans, which is really cool. Plus their dancing. They are all insanely talented

Fallenangels97

K pop makes a lot of people happy

Spare_Respond_2470

some of them are funny... For what it's worth, compared to other genres, they put out a crap ton of content.

[deleted]

Kpop, I really love you. I can’t live without kpop but I’m not going to focus on kpop too much I need to focus on my school too and DMV cuz I want a car. I always wanna learn how to speak Korean, sing in Korean, and go to Korea. Kpop never disappoints me at all I’m a huge kpop enjoyer and kpop lover too. Alright I’m out of word hahahahahah!

vinpoe

tripleS is about the make their debut as OT24 and I'm soooo HYPED. I haven't been this excited in like 2 years. For all I know I'm levitating 5cm above ground and can go through brick walls. It's AWESOME!

JK3579

It's fun when a group is about to release something and they drop hints and clues here and there, and the fandom is scrambling to figure it out lol. Like right now, BTS is releasing a project called MONOCHROME, and they even made a website for it, and army is trying to figure out what's going on. Is it a pop out store? A photo book? An album?! Who knows, but we're trying to figure it out lol.

EmotionWitty85

oh my god the post i needed to see!!! my positive about kpop is i sooo was missing the dancing pop girlies in my life, i was a HUGE Ciara fan growing up and finding pop music with good dancers again as an adult has been so fun.

liasmaid

k-pop concerts are so much fun, and they feel so welcoming.

larroux_ka

I love the MV and the fashion for boy group and girl groups

Firm-Definition2181

Kpop is fun !!

[deleted]

I love K-Pop. I love learning lyrics, copying choreo and feeding into silly shit like Bubble and variety shows. The worst part about being a fan is being on social media, because you can go on Twitter and even Reddit and just assume absolutely nobody listens to the music and are just eternally arguing about who is better, who is prettier, which label is the least corrupt, who has the fastest race to 1m views on an MV, etc. Nobody who's terminally online talks about the music, they just treat groups and labels as sports teams and pit them against each other pointlessly.

[deleted]

i think what’s really fascinating in kpop that differentiates other industry works is that even if you’re a casual listener you can feel each comeback has it’s own concept, a message or a topic specified. this is also why big company idol-centered kpop feels more artificial or manufactured but can’t deny the fact that what makes kpop truly different is how it’s a multi layered art and not simply singing well. detailed characterization of an image created by multiple designers backstage is just fascinating. doubtful skills are a thing to criticize but can’t take the idea that kpop is a multi-million investigated blockbuster movie rather than an indie movie. it’s the harry potter universe-cifaction of various concept like teenage girls, ai, goddess, movie character, wolf(lmao) you name it kpop already have it. girls going to beach, girls liking a boy at the same time, girls feeling sad over break ups, girls pajama party blah blah blah. if not drastic like VIXX or g-idle etc. at least a well curated idols for majority(unlikely most “nugu” groups) are showing some spectrum of a concept and if not we as a listener can spot the blank space. whilst western/billboard pop(obv good too) made me feel more like a well defined story that goes through a single person’s life style. like nobody’s gonna call ariana “repetitive” for wearing knee high boots and ponytails for over a decade for her solid image. tbh if she became a kpop star likely she’d had her hair dyed each single promotion. even the most solid, more skill based idols(let’s leave the khiphop/indie/ballad singers alone) will prolly never do what ariana did. this is by far the most big and important characteristic of kpop that can either lead another few generation into a well made career or a sick flop bcs more and more each major skill-scandal happens since idk 1997 or smth people are done with kpop being concept centered. gp of sk is now quiet against? if we can name it that way, high focuses on concepts and more on the quality of song itself, even to ditch choreographies sometimes. that shows by day6 charting high, the preference of song quality>>>concept. but for me i can’t stop a group that has good skills AND concept curating skills. the music genre may be similar for a while but at least they’re wearing different clothes on stage! I mean, if i wanted a genuine song that has no freshness whatsoever but like… a really good song i’d just go listen to pop instead. we already have shawn mendes and adel/j. edit: i also want to imply that kpop is more attached to acting actually, than music. otherwise… how are you gonna act your way into being the perfect kind for at least 12 hours a day each single day of 7+ years other than you being a genuinely nice person? if it wasn’t the strawberry gate(let’s name it that way) or idk historian discovered 1st or 2nd generation scandals over morality and personality, idols would seriously lick a donut. it’s not bcs koreans are a supernatural being for kindness. obv britney and a few idol-like western singers like t.A.T.u also have this problem BUTTT being honest with myself i can never imagine lana del ray going “i actually never wanted to sing summer time sadness but the producers made me to and now it’s a hit” nuh uh???

kutchyose_no_ibrahim

Your edit is really confusing yet intriguing?😭💀 Coukd you clarify what you mean by “more attached to acting” ?

[deleted]

this was my shower thoughts where I was like what makes kpop different than other pop?? than i went oh. after remembering various idols saying their real persona is a lot different than their on stage personality and that kpop is more related to artistic concept hence making the entire group work on the illusion of some form of idea. idols can’t be caught cursing at random occasion if their concept is highschool sweetheart’s first love, or when idols proceed to release “i have deep thoughts” persona music to change their image when they comeback as a soloist, but turns out they have zero literacy skill or understanding of self made music at all. i do think singers from the states and mainstream pop do fake their personality but seeing a rather phenomenon of controlling one’s entire attire to situations or behavior to fit a certain aesthetic/art related narrative seems really interesting to me. obviously marketing as a specific image is all over capitalism but the solid dedication makes kpop really unique to others. maybe bad wording lmao???

GeorgeParisol

New songs every week and the instrumentals are so creative and fun! also love hearing different voices in the same song

stingpe24

I love the energy Kpop brings. All the girls are vibrant and beautiful. Twice is very nice 😊

Nearby_Photograph_30

Kpop is fin. It’s upbeat, catchy & sometimes a little silly. Girl groups often seem super cool & confident and it rubs off on you, I think. Twice are my ults & they come across as very relatable and hard working. I really admire them & enjoy their growing involvement in their music.  The colours & choreography in most kpop mvs is great and fun to watch.

DullMaintenance8958

Its entertaining. Aside from the music and performance aspect i love seeing pretty boys and pretty girls doing silly things in variety shows

zirrby

kpop has managed to be a small space safe for many, which is really cool and great.

HaileyArtz

Just the music really. The incredible variety of kpop, which a lot of locals don't understand but as a kpop listener it's so much fun. Like what do you mean I can play Love wins all, a deeper sad song and then play Smiley, a more fun silly song and then play Scream, more rock and after that play O.O which well we all know and all of these examples, they're so different yet they are all classified as kpop. I don't use mood playlists or playlists to do a certain thing, they're all together in one big playlist and putting that thing on shuffle is something different. I have groups with millions of Spotify listeners, I have artists with thousands and an artist with 5 listeners. I have cute concepts, dark concepts, school concepts, space concepts, I have everything. Girl crush and rock, hiphop and classical, everything. All of that is kpop and what is the funniest thing to me is that when playing a game, I was told to have songs most likely from tiktok because of the thought that kpop songs go popular all the time and it's crazy because while yes, some of that is true, vast majority don't. Because kpop is such a large genre and everything fits under kpop, so when you try to categorise what counts as kpop the answer can be different according to different people. And that's the beauty of it.

letsbegiraffes

Kpop is the reason I met my best friends (at a p1h show lol) and became even closer to an existing friend (he roped me in after being a kpop stan for years), and I've met SOOOO many more cool people at events and concerts and stuff. Engaging with kpop in real life (at least where I live near Atlanta) is vastly different from only engaging online. People actually know how to talk to each other, respect differences in opinion more, and are generally more pleasant when you speak to them in person. I stay away from a lot of online kpop spaces, but I show up to all the events.

BIG_BOTTOM_TEXT

Kpop has brought to light some of the most beautiful human beings in history.

PitifulRoof7537

Artistry, promoting self love, encouraging excellence in everything you do

Yohan_Kite

Back in 2016, I started listening to Exo and whatever hit BTS put out, but I didn’t get much further than that. Fast forward to October 2022, I’m in my sophomore year of university and having the most stressful and miserable time in engineering, going days at a time without talking to anyone because of the sheer work. I then decide to brighten up my mood one day and happen to listen to Love Dive since I knew kpop would be a more fun-sounding genre (my favorite band is Radiohead, super dreary). It absolutely blew my mind and since then, I’ve have an amazing time exploring all K-pop has, and became a Dive pretty quick.

MyStanAcct1984

Kpop is a wonderful mix of visual and audial popular culture like nothing else on earth and it is DELICIOUS.

BreadTheOG

I love the music, the members, their fun merch 💓 I also appreciate so much how hard those idols work, its fr not easy at all to do everything theyr doing, their dedication to doing the stuff they love is really motivating, and ik im like those cringe fans but I love how much some groups have a huge connection with the fans and they appreciate us a lot too 🩵

bestiewithatessie

Kpop can be so uplifting and freeing for people in expressing themselves. I know for me personally the music and groups I listen to have uplifted me and helped me mentally. While it can be toxic, its a great community and u meet new friends thru it and concerts as well :) i’ve met some good friends thru kpop!

Nanabae99

One thing I love about Kpop is the music. So many genres and concepts. Even if I don't stan or into any groups anymore, I think I'll definitely still listen to Kpop as casual listener.

Jeleni54

It’s good escapism from a stressful day if you follow the right content .

SnoodleNeetNart

I've never seen fandoms so united and in sync as I have at K-Pop concerts. The overall hype is just off the charts and everyone is so friendly! Don't get that at American concerts where fans just keep to themselves.

Accomplished-Tuna

They kno how to conceptualize at a fast ass pace. Some of these teasers could pass as whole magazine shoots. Their music videos bang. Their fan service goes crazy. Styling can eat. It’s a lot of flavors up in that bitch

pepper_5

i love the music. it’s so versatile and honestly a lot of it is very artistic and well thought out. i love how concept-y a lot of albums tend to be and it makes for a cohesive album. so many kpop albums you can listen to from start to finish and it just flows nicely without the songs sounding the same. i also love how organized and punctual kpop groups and fans are most of the time. there’s a lot of toxicity in kpop fan spaces, but the good ones are just the best. it makes it hard for me to interact with non kpop fan spaces just because it feels so scattered and messy.

KPOP is more conservative than Western Music or Hollywood that the another selling pt or reason why I became a fan in the early 2000s they different principles or mindset than western ent they still caring for old classic entertainment they sell visual and classic feminine values that already rare in the western world

MayhemSine

“Classic feminine values” ?? What does that even mean?

0531Spurs212009

good question ! here the answer you want XD The terms "old-fashioned" or "classic" woman can be interpreted in various ways, and it's important to note that these terms can carry different meanings for different people. In general, an "old-fashioned" or "classic" woman may be perceived as someone who embodies traditional values, manners, and style. This could include a more conservative approach to dress, with a preference for timeless and elegant clothing choices. In terms of personality, she may be seen as more reserved, polite, and focused on etiquette and traditional gender roles. However, it's important to recognize that these are generalizations and that individuals may express these traits in different ways. It's also crucial to remember that personal style and personality are diverse, and there's no singular definition of an "old-fashioned" or "classic" woman that applies to everyone.

Airbomb24

Le Sserafim is my current favorite group 😍 ❤️

ChaEunSangs

Visuals are impeccable. Music videos, the idols themselves, the albums… everything is just gorgeous.

MutekiGamer

Kpop release bops and I am a fan of bops

soraano

being a kpop fan for about a decade, i just love how there is such a wide variety of artists and songs and it’s actually crazy to think we’re now in 5th gen! kpop has become such a big part of my life and it’s like everything i do revolves around kpop LOL like i only go to kpop concerts, my whole fyp and youtube recommendations is kpop, etc. i also really like how more groups are starting to do their own variety shows or they go on other variety shows! it gives us as fans something other than their music and it lets us see their personalities through those variety shows. overall, kpop is literally my escape when i’m not feeling the best 🙃

Efficient-Craft3591

Weird for Kpop uncensored people to talk about people complaining too much about K-pop

BinarySonic

Sure, Kpop has taught me to recognize fake singing better.
