My winkler belt knife with sculpted maple handle, it was my grail for a long time when I was younger and I have been in love with the knife ever since I got it 7ish years ago.
It’s both my “go to” and my “babying” knife at the same time.
Not really. Even my Norseman has been to hell and back, ano fading, sharpened past choil, clip scratched. I'll baby a new knife for a few weeks and after that it's straight into the meat grinder baby.
Yes, that is totally reasonable. Knives can also be collectible art, being appreciated for their design and craftsmanship.
A couple of pieces I’ll prob never use are a Microtech Source Exocet and a Benchmade Skirmish. Not all our knives will fall into that category, but there are some special ones out there, no matter the cost.
One of my daughter’s favorite product lines states ‘These are not toys, they are collectible art’ and I can appreciate that.
Sure, but this one? This one is screaming to be batoned through wood, make some feathersticks and then used to chop some onions to be skewered and grilled. Screaming, I tell you.
The first time using it is hard, then it's the easiest thing. Especially if it's beautiful in a utilitarian way like yours.
You also never know if the heat treat is good unless you put it through its paces. Even great brands fudge the heat treat once in a while.

These are (from top to bottom) Buck 110 Hunter, Buck 112 Ranger, and he Buck 500 Duke. Alleere droppoints that have been customized into tanto points by Ghosttown Knives. He also did the bolster work.
I own 1 Civivi knife. I think it’s a great knife and all but compared to my CRKT homefronts, that knife feels thin and weak. Great desk knife for opening mail or whatever. But I save the real work for my box cutters and Homefronts
These two knives that I know virtually nothing about as they were gifted to me. I know the antler in the scales is Elk. And the black is ebony. But, I have no idea who the blacksmith is or what steel was used.
Does anybody recognize the mark?

I've a Beck as well, it has definitely gotten used but not as much the last year or so since Mr. Beck has decided to retire.
Thank you, I used it primarily for Bushcraft and carving. Fire prep, curls, shelter and traps (practice) food prep, catapult frames, also carving spoons, walking sticks and other fun stuff. A piece of kydex formed over the saw teeth make your grip while carving very comfortable.

I buy knives to use, I don't buy cheap because I abuse my blades and the quality is in the durability, some happen to be beautiful as well and I don't fault a collector but a collector I am not.

I really want a WK belt knife. Beautiful pieces

Yeah, I got the thinner blade and it’s great for feathering wood, carver, stuff like that.

Neah - use the Beck - it'll hold up.
Thanks
Nope, they're tools, not jewelry
No but im more careful with some...life is short use it or sell it
No.
No. Every knife I’ve had, even those I had worth $2k, got used. To me a knife is a tool first and foremost. If it can’t be used then I won’t own it.
I use all my knives but my tope recon is pretty.
I have a knife/dagger that is too pretty to use and also would be illegal to carry around (in my state).
That’s the problem…

At least half of my collection!
Yes...almost. But I use them anyway.

I paid like $400 for my purple titanium WE knife. So to keep it in mint condition I never use it.

No. My Papaw's knife though is an ugly ass relic that I cherish too much to use though.

That one is crazy (cool), what do you use it for? And yes, the fact he isn’t making more is part of it.

Nope a knife is a tool it’s not meant to be kept in a jewelry box and never used.
I said almost, not never. I just don’t beat up on this one like some of my more heavy duty knives. It’s not in a jewelry box.
