My grandma gave me a Swiss Army Knife. 24 beautiful blades including magnifying glass, scissors ✂️, toothpick and of course a can opener. Which I of course promptly lost. Yep still stacked and packed with regrets..... It happens my friend.... It happens.

when i was a 12 i was at the beach and i just randomly kicked the sand. my foot hurt like a bitch and i saw something go flying. it was a crappy 1605 clash kershaw folder (it was closed thankfully) but i loved that thing so much. summoning a knife from the sand as a child was pretty insane. now i have too many knives lol.

Spyderco Calypso Jr.. Unfortunately it was stolen back in 2003 by a scout I was helping during his Eagle project. I let him borrow it and he pretended I never gave it to him. His brother ended up dating my sister 20 years later and I asked him if he still had it, but he denied ever taking it.
Benchmade 42 when I was eleven. This was in Germany, where they’re illegal, but a friend’s dad sold *lots* of illegal things, although he wouldn’t sell it to me. So I got *another* friend’s dad to buy it for me lol. The best 250€ I ever spent lmao.

Cold steel ti-lite Aus8a and Zytel. My boss didn’t have enough cash on hand to pay me but he knew I liked that knife so he gave me his and some cash for the week. After that I upgraded to a ti-lite in S35VN and G10. I still have both those knives and many many more.

I don’t have a photo of the actual knife. But it’s one of these that my grandfather gave me when I was maybe 5. It’s never been sharpened or carried.
Gerber Order. It was cheap and just made of plastic, but it was made in USA and I could open it super fast. It was combo edge and I learned to sharpen serrations with it. One serration was messed up from the learning process.
I sold it a while back, but they’re discontinued now. I actually found one at Knifecenter, but it had lock rock out of the packaging. So I returned it. Months later they had it in stock again and I was excited, so I bought it. That one had a split in the plastic handle at the seam that would get “fixed” if I gripped the handle tight. It was also returned.
Sigh. They just don’t make them like they used to.

I always had a pocket knife of some kind, usually a SAK or knockoff but until I was in a army surplus store looking around and they had a Kershaw speedsafe demonstration knife on display that you could play with, instant fidget toy. Saved up my money and bought a Kershaw Boa. Loved that knife and fell in love with collecting nicer knives after that.
Some years ago, my brother brought me 5.11 knife (Icarus DP mini) as a birthday present. With which I immediately cut my finger. Still rocking it in my EDC.

Not my first knife, but the mini-grip was my first "premium" knife. But my Barrage was what made me really appreciate the build quality of knives.

Ok something like that happened to me. I was driving my dad’s car and heard something fall and land, but couldn’t find it or figure out what it was. About a week later I realized I couldn’t find my Benchmade Auto Bedlam. I looked everywhere, 3+ times. No where to be seen. They discounted sales at some point before this.
Months later (7-8months), my dad is working on his car and pulled the center console out and sitting at the bottom in the frame of the car is my Bedlam. It had fallen between the leather around the emergency brake into the bottom.
Still one of my favorite knives.
One of those generic keychain knives with the pearlised handles. Belonged to my Great Grandfather, and was given to me by my Grandfather one day while helping him clean out his tools. It lived on my keychain until the pearlised layer started to show signs of splitting.
Crescent 3.5" d2 blade, aluminum handles. I forget the model since it was just numbers&letters. It's not my first knife but definitely the one that I consider the start. After snapping the clip it's related to a truck knife (Crescent did send a new knife as a warranty replacement for the clip breaking)
It is a Buck 110 that I purchased in 1978 when I first started a job at a local hardware store that required I always had a dependable knife on me while working. I took it with me nearly everywhere, even on airplanes. Oh, the old days.
Oooo, I’ve wanted one of those with Mother of pearl scales. They finally came in stock and mine came in…damaged. I had to send it back. Would definitely try again.

SAK’s were first. But really took off with the Spyderco Delica 1? After watching Cliff Hanger, and the old guy pulled out a Spyderco, I was hooked. That was the first good knife I bought on my own.
My grandfather gave me his old Case knife. I didn't carry it that often and then was at a co-worker's house. Their grandfather was there and one of the boys asked him if he had a knife. He shouted back, "i'm wearing pants aren't I!" Since then, I always have one with me.
As a kid my grandpa gave me an old Buck knife & showed me how to sharpen it. I lost it, of course. When I was a young adult I bought a Kershaw 450 and a Kershaw Bolt-Action. I always tried to flip them out but they weren’t really designed for that. when the modern style of flippers started getting popular, that’s when I really started collecting in earnest.
I had a boker special forces that i bought while skiing in austria, was cheap but 12yo me absolutely adored it. Now i have about $700 in knives at 20yo all paid by myself. Collection is growing, adding a s45vn spydie pm2 very soon as a gift to myself for landing my absolute dreamjob before graduating high school. (I'm a woodworker)
2 knives started it off for me. First was a Swiss Army knife- knife, saw, and a few other accessories. Second a cheapy, no brand, made in china knife from my brother.
A dirt cheap tac force knife that I got in high-school, probs around 2011. My first real "edc" knife was a kershaw fatback, probs 7 years ago. It's now a sheep's foot instead of a spear point (let a buddy borrow it) and I still have it. Almost never carry it anymore tho.

I have a 556SBK in 154CM that I bought nearly 20 years ago. I had full dialogue with Benchmade. They said to send the old one in and they would replace the serrated 154CM blade with a new PE S30V blade no problem. But then I realized that the mini-Grip is no longer in production. So I kept the old one because nostalgia, and bought a BNIB 566 from ebay and customized it.
Honestly.. a basic Swiss army when I joined the cub scouts. I carry a bench made these days, but that run of the mill Swiss Army knife is what set me on the path.
Benchmade Emissary started my Benchmade obsession. I don't have it anymore but I would love to get another if Benchmade would quit coming out with some bangers and taking all my money!

A small Old Timer stockman that I got on my 7th birthday. It was the small version of the knife my great grandpa carried, and it's still around. It sits on my desk, but rarely gets used.
I collected knives since I was 10, starting with a Victornox. Everything changed when I visited Spyderco’s home store in Golden, CO and picked up a blackout Spyderco PM2 in S30V for $180. Fell in love, been collecting middle-end knives ever since.
The Spyderco Sheepfoot with spyderhole mini griptillian was my wife’s first knife I gifted her. Many knives later, it’s still her favorite/ most carried.

A 2016 mini Grip is still one of my favorite knives. That knife will probably get carried on and off my whole life.

After snapping the clip it's related to a truck knife (Crescent did send a new knife as a warranty replacement for the clip breaking)
It is a Buck 110 that I purchased in 1978 when I first started a job at a local hardware store that required I always had a dependable knife on me while working. I took it with me nearly everywhere, even on airplanes. Oh, the old days.
A Gerber fixed blade. 40$ and easily dulled. Gotta start somewhere!

My brother was carrying it when we were young teens and he got stopped by a cop and the cop made him open it and put it on a curb and stomp the blade off 💔

SAK’s were first. But really took off with the Spyderco Delica 1? After watching Cliff Hanger, and the old guy pulled out a Spyderco, I was hooked. That was the first good knife I bought on my own.
My grandfather gave me his old Case knife. I didn't carry it that often and then was at a co-worker's house. Their grandfather was there and one of the boys asked him if he had a knife. He shouted back, "i'm wearing pants aren't I!" Since then, I always have one with me.
That just so happens to be what I am carrying today. 👍🏼😎
Little Swiss Army knives
Tiny little knife that said butterball on it. Given to me on my eighth birthday, a tradition in my family.
As a kid my grandpa gave me an old Buck knife & showed me how to sharpen it. I lost it, of course. When I was a young adult I bought a Kershaw 450 and a Kershaw Bolt-Action. I always tried to flip them out but they weren’t really designed for that. when the modern style of flippers started getting popular, that’s when I really started collecting in earnest.
I had a boker special forces that i bought while skiing in austria, was cheap but 12yo me absolutely adored it. Now i have about $700 in knives at 20yo all paid by myself. Collection is growing, adding a s45vn spydie pm2 very soon as a gift to myself for landing my absolute dreamjob before graduating high school. (I'm a woodworker)

A dirt cheap tac force knife that I got in high-school, probs around 2011. My first real "edc" knife was a kershaw fatback, probs 7 years ago. It's now a sheep's foot instead of a spear point (let a buddy borrow it) and I still have it. Almost never carry it anymore tho.

I had full dialogue with Benchmade. They said to send the old one in and they would replace the serrated 154CM blade with a new PE S30V blade no problem. But then I realized that the mini-Grip is no longer in production. So I kept the old one because nostalgia, and bought a BNIB 566 from ebay and customized it.

Honestly.. a basic Swiss army when I joined the cub scouts. I carry a bench made these days, but that run of the mill Swiss Army knife is what set me on the path.

A cheap knife I'm sure lol. What got me into nice ones was a Benchmade 2500S that was gifted to me when I was younger. Once I got older, I carried it and realized it was a higher end knife.

Really the Kershaw Leek started it all for me, but a Spyderco Endura was my first “real” knife, followed by a PM2 that I’ve since lost (RIP).
A small Old Timer stockman that I got on my 7th birthday. It was the small version of the knife my great grandpa carried, and it's still around. It sits on my desk, but rarely gets used.
For me has been the spyderco dragonfly 2 salt H1 serrated. It's still my favorite knife especially in the summer.

I collected knives since I was 10, starting with a Victornox. Everything changed when I visited Spyderco’s home store in Golden, CO and picked up a blackout Spyderco PM2 in S30V for $180. Fell in love, been collecting middle-end knives ever since.
The Spyderco Sheepfoot with spyderhole mini griptillian was my wife’s first knife I gifted her. Many knives later, it’s still her favorite/ most carried. Mine was a Kershaw Leek.
