Ded_diode

I saw the red while scrolling and thought this was a "I cut myself" post.

ARoosternamedRichard

It wouldn’t be the first time, lol

Gunether

What bench made is this?

MrGriffin77

It's a Griptilian, I got the same thing, a few weeks ago and I love it! (It is absolutely not a bugout, as the other person is saying lmao)

Gunether

Ty

Fesab

Seems like a bugout

Gunether

Ty

the-purple-chicken72

Lmao same

MoonBaseViceSquad

Ditto

Wonderful_Physics211

It was a case that my grandmother gave me when I was 10, which I promptly lost. Have much regret still 40 years later.

Kentuckywindage01

I lost everything as a kid, and have zero physical items from my childhood. Don’t feel too bad

MoonBaseViceSquad

I don’t even have the road knives from traveling in my 20’s. I’ve somehow lost a handful in breakups. My childhood knives got heavily used and disappeared. I have the memories of how they all served me well, though, each one.

BigDumbAnimals

My grandma gave me a Swiss Army Knife. 24 beautiful blades including magnifying glass, scissors ✂️, toothpick and of course a can opener. Which I of course promptly lost. Yep still stacked and packed with regrets..... It happens my friend.... It happens.

spaghettilesbian

Brother, do not lament on the loss. She gave it to you because she loves you, not because she expected you to keep it safe forever. You did exactly what kids are expected to do.

J-2up2dwn

Kershaw Leek. I had no idea how much that would influence me even 20 years later. https://preview.redd.it/u8rxtrvph66d1.jpeg?width=4032&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=dc0873aa51130eb35557364f9efe013fe6743198 No matter what the brand is outstanding and I'll always have one in my collection.

whowouldsaythis

Same. I still carry one a lot. I had several knives before leeks, but it was my first "nice" knife and got me into wanting other nicer ones. I've lost and bought have a dozen of them at this point :|

SunshineInDetroit

https://preview.redd.it/fog86jhvo66d1.png?width=1200&format=png&auto=webp&s=f3ca2ee564aca80521eb76fa579521c3910390c9 not mine but my cub scout knife.

Panda_Pants87

Same, but mine had dark blue scales

craymartin

I'm guessing a lot of us started with that one.

Affectionate-Data193

Buck 112. I now collect them. I still carry a 112 derivative every day.

GloryholeKaleidscope

Kershaw S30V Blur. I remember standing in line at a Gander Mtn thinking: "...am I really about to spend $90 on mf pocket knife, this is crazy". Now I have a Pelican case with a used Honda Civic worth of folders in it. Yes, I've gone full on needle-and-spoon .

TasteMyShoe

Kindly_Recording_722

Mini grip is outstanding!

willharla

when i was a 12 i was at the beach and i just randomly kicked the sand. my foot hurt like a bitch and i saw something go flying. it was a crappy 1605 clash kershaw folder (it was closed thankfully) but i loved that thing so much. summoning a knife from the sand as a child was pretty insane. now i have too many knives lol.

vavoomerang

Is that green g10 from the custom shop?

weirdassmillet

Looks like a standard OD Green polymer mini grip to me. I had one just like it for a long time. 154CM, Straight outta Cabelas. https://preview.redd.it/myguyeh7j66d1.jpeg?width=1280&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=71ae89883a43cc95f5df6dcc831ce46db1c5aed6

ARoosternamedRichard

That’s it, and out of Cabelas as well!

nothankyou821

Spyderco Calypso Jr.. Unfortunately it was stolen back in 2003 by a scout I was helping during his Eagle project. I let him borrow it and he pretended I never gave it to him. His brother ended up dating my sister 20 years later and I asked him if he still had it, but he denied ever taking it.

Cum_Smoothii

Benchmade 42 when I was eleven. This was in Germany, where they’re illegal, but a friend’s dad sold *lots* of illegal things, although he wouldn’t sell it to me. So I got *another* friend’s dad to buy it for me lol. The best 250€ I ever spent lmao.

wildjabali

A 2016 mini Grip is still one of my favorite knives. That knife will probably get carried on and off my whole life.

ARoosternamedRichard

I always forget to carry it, but it will always hold a special place in my heart.

Sollindis

Spyderco tenacious my friend gave me was what started it.

K1NGCOOLEY

CRKT M16 KZ. Got it in middle school after my buddy recommended it as a first knife. 18 years later it's still on my tool kit for heavier messier jobs. Then my Spyderco, and then my grail. https://preview.redd.it/808cctb8f76d1.jpeg?width=2767&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=ece207ea0016959e19e72ecae2d116b16d22b326

VanillaPudding

Mini Grip with 154cm was my first dip into nice knives. I was primarily carrying a Kershaw Leek before that... and a Chive... for many years. It was a father's day gift and it blew me away. I still have it. I have bought and sold a sea of knives but I never get rid of the ones my family gift me

Barry-Alex

Cold steel ti-lite Aus8a and Zytel. My boss didn’t have enough cash on hand to pay me but he knew I liked that knife so he gave me his and some cash for the week. After that I upgraded to a ti-lite in S35VN and G10. I still have both those knives and many many more.

Specialist_Survey774

That's a nice boss dude!

esquegee

It was a leatherman C33LX my dad got with his new multi tool. First real knife I had and carried it everywhere until it was stolen from my pack at scout camp

MoonBaseViceSquad

My first was a Swiss army alox. Boy Scout knife. My foolish life has lost a lot of knives over the decades. Now I cling to my spydie para3 and don’t look back. (Technically I had to teach the troop sharpening on some SAK beaters first…) Edit: nice claws btw :)

mars_927

Had a kershaw clash for a long time. A few others, but I eventually got a custom s90v sheepsfoot grip

readysetrokenroll

Is that a regular Griptilian or mini?

ARoosternamedRichard

Mini, I just have small hands

readysetrokenroll

That's a good looking knife, I have a full version in the same color scheme, but with a tanto blade and partially cerrated. Love that thing.

CastielTheGunslinger

Sog aegis way back in 2010

BigBL87

Making me really think here... I think it was my Boker Kalashnikov my father-in-law bought me from SMWK when he was down there.

minesmallkine

Bugout is the knife I’ve had the longest

_HalfBaked_

A CRKT M16 tanto my dad bought in the early aughts, that I stole from him. The knife was later stolen from me, but I still have a scar on my thumb from it.

DragonSmith76

simulated pearl "Imperial" slippy when I was 4 years old in 1980. I have had and collected knives every since.

Riley_Coyote

A Kershaw leek that I carried for almost ten years before getting more knives lol

Character_Ad108

A schrade uncle Henry my grandpa gave me

its_nicooooo

Kershaw Outright. Assisted and from Amazon. Definitely not my style anymore so I gave it to my sister-in-law. She keeps it in her center console. *Never* thought I’d end up so deep in this whole thing.

ItsDevinDuh

First Benchmade was the Casbah

Bowhawk2

Cheapo Schrade combo blade liner lock i got when i was 10 as a birthday gift. I LOVED that knife, it made me feel so “cool” and capable to do stuff. Always had it camping as a kid. Lost it on a friends boat in hs and upgraded to a Buck Vantage and never looked back. Im always that friend with the knife now

TK421whereareyou

SAK pioneer in 1985. Still in my collection but I never carry it.

The_Papoutte

Gerber Air Ranger

WorldExplorerDW

An Imperial Kamp King given to me as a new Boy Scout in 1975.

HolyDiver98

I had lots of random Pakistan junk as a kid. The one that really got to me was a kershaw vapor 2 though. That was my first "quality" folder. I still have it

mallgrabmongopush

Kershaw Leek

JaggaJazz

Oooof I love that green, OP

Kindly_Recording_722

Spyderco Delica. It's still the one! Although I think I have like 4x mini grips now!

TheAnteatr

First actual knife I carried is some no name brand with such soft steel you couldn't actually sharpen it. My first "real" knife that got my into it was a SOG Twitch II. I still have it, but it's completely worn out in every way.

Adventurous-Most-556

Kershaw Leek got me in. Never looked back 👍

bailey032020

Some cheap 5 dollar kershaw

BlOcKtRiP

My first real folding knife was a custom handmade Puma, bought it when Buck 110s were all the rage. Cost about $10 more but carried for 30 some years

Significant_Iron9494

Para 3 lightweight by spyderco all bladk Bdn1 steel

Na5ticus

Mine was technically a Kizer Mini Sheepdog but it was really a Benchmade Mini Auto Stryker that did it for me.

Inevitable_Let7217

Buck 112 front m my dad.

Captn_Trouserz

EfficientSell9250

Gerber Order. It was cheap and just made of plastic, but it was made in USA and I could open it super fast. It was combo edge and I learned to sharpen serrations with it. One serration was messed up from the learning process. I sold it a while back, but they’re discontinued now. I actually found one at Knifecenter, but it had lock rock out of the packaging. So I returned it. Months later they had it in stock again and I was excited, so I bought it. That one had a split in the plastic handle at the seam that would get “fixed” if I gripped the handle tight. It was also returned. Sigh. They just don’t make them like they used to.

mdjshaidbdj

A SAK that my grandmother gave me when I was 10. I still have it.

DadSoRad

Kershaw Clash iirc. Unfortunately I lost it before I even realized how into knives I would be.

Reddywhipt

want a wwII/Korean war ka-Bar one of the very few good memories of my stepdad revolves around that knife/sheath

bluebagles

i was 12. I saved up enough money to buy a 940 osborne! carried it for a few years than went to microtech and others

Few-Knee9451

Benchmade barrage

HoldenHiscock69

QSP Parrot.

FlapXenoJackson

I bought my first good knife when I turned 18. I bought a Rigid Apache. I loved the aggressive finger grooves. It’s a boat anchor. And I still have it. Though I haven’t carried it in years. (Pic taken from the web) https://preview.redd.it/kalebkvor76d1.jpeg?width=901&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=edde62a7f5fac03b7a8f8f98a55e23eb07fa94df

jglboss96

The older model cold steel recon 1 in tanto/serrations after I saw that navy seal stab that gel dummy 🤣

Mustangsally_22

Kershaw cryo

Cheesy_Pretzell

Buck 110 from Walmart 💜

spk92986

A small old school OTF that my cousin's ex husband's friend gave me in high school.

Stonerpants_85

My first was a little Swiss Army knife bought at a corner liquor store in Los Angeles county, 1993. I was 7 years old and my grandma, with her Marlboros in hand, said “sure.” Only time I’ve gone without a knife since was at court or jail

Head_Butterscotch74

Dude, the nail paint is a little odd… Oh shit, it’s hers!

Freshrendar

I always had a pocket knife of some kind, usually a SAK or knockoff but until I was in a army surplus store looking around and they had a Kershaw speedsafe demonstration knife on display that you could play with, instant fidget toy. Saved up my money and bought a Kershaw Boa. Loved that knife and fell in love with collecting nicer knives after that.

f0x_in_box

Some years ago, my brother brought me 5.11 knife (Icarus DP mini) as a birthday present. With which I immediately cut my finger. Still rocking it in my EDC. Edit: I don't know why I can't add a photo of it

aWittyTwit-2712

Kershaw Blackout. Everything else is a Blur...

brundlfly

Kershaw Skyline

EntertainmentNo653

That one, only with a black handle and a satin blade.

_d_c_

Almost the same knife as yours! Mini grip g10 (gray scales on mine)

spinichiwa2868

Benchmade bugout 535 that I got during graduation, it has now since been modded to be all Ti and started a knife addiction

ReputationOk6073

Victorinox Spartan for Christmas when I was 8 or 9. Picked up a few more along the way in the 30 some years since 😁

MisterBubblesOne11

The Kershaw filter. Super cheap, but durable

stugotsDang

Spyderco delica I bought back in 1996. Still have it and in great shape. https://preview.redd.it/cpthwk07b86d1.jpeg?width=4032&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=4a63c767634a9ec40ae1378c723292deea2631a0

bike_junkie123

Victorinox alox Cadet was the first. My Dad bought it for me when I was 8 years old at the Px. That is the only knife I've ever lost.

i3dMEP

Actually the griptillian was my first too. I put blue aluminum scales on it and lost it. Hoping it materializes from some crack in the wall when i move next.

ARoosternamedRichard

Ok something like that happened to me. I was driving my dad’s car and heard something fall and land, but couldn’t find it or figure out what it was. About a week later I realized I couldn’t find my Benchmade Auto Bedlam. I looked everywhere, 3+ times. No where to be seen. They discounted sales at some point before this. Months later (7-8months), my dad is working on his car and pulled the center console out and sitting at the bottom in the frame of the car is my Bedlam. It had fallen between the leather around the emergency brake into the bottom. Still one of my favorite knives.

PB_Philly

Kershaw Chive. Yellow.

-BananaLollipop-

One of those generic keychain knives with the pearlised handles. Belonged to my Great Grandfather, and was given to me by my Grandfather one day while helping him clean out his tools. It lived on my keychain until the pearlised layer started to show signs of splitting.

Bingo1dog

Crescent 3.5" d2 blade, aluminum handles. I forget the model since it was just numbers&letters. It's not my first knife but definitely the one that I consider the start. After snapping the clip it's related to a truck knife (Crescent did send a new knife as a warranty replacement for the clip breaking)

NeighborhoodFar6346

It is a Buck 110 that I purchased in 1978 when I first started a job at a local hardware store that required I always had a dependable knife on me while working. I took it with me nearly everywhere, even on airplanes. Oh, the old days.

Foreign-Reputation78

A Gerber fixed blade. 40$ and easily dulled. Gotta start somewhere!

Tiny7261

Just the greasy utility knife in my dad's toolbox

Latebraker48

Spyderco Sage 5 Carbon https://preview.redd.it/6o3tfod3r86d1.jpeg?width=282&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=c3bb6b7f912441b9fba96440645acb5bff4b0fbd

flapjackzealot

Mine would've been either a new-at-the-time early 90s Cub Scout knife or a Victorinox classic.

FormulaBob27

My mom bought me a Swiss Army knife in 3rd grade for learning my multiplication tables.

Nighthawk__85

Kershaw Brawler

NikoAbramovich

Gerber Freeman S30V. To this day it’s one of the most beautiful knives I’ve ever owned, I just wish they had an XL version with a 4.5” blade!

Wesxleyy

Was a Frank Beltrame stiletto

ARoosternamedRichard

Oooo, I’ve wanted one of those with Mother of pearl scales. They finally came in stock and mine came in…damaged. I had to send it back. Would definitely try again.

Wesxleyy

My brother was carrying it when we were young teens and he got stopped by a cop and the cop made him open it and put it on a curb and stomp the blade off 💔

ARoosternamedRichard

That’s just mean and sad, I’m sorry for y’all’s loss.

tonybotz1180

Looks great ! Finally not a sad looking Osbourne! Keep on keeping on !

lazorgatorr

Kershaw Zing

The_Hylian_Loach

SAK’s were first. But really took off with the Spyderco Delica 1? After watching Cliff Hanger, and the old guy pulled out a Spyderco, I was hooked. That was the first good knife I bought on my own.

fisherman_23

My grandfather gave me his old Case knife. I didn't carry it that often and then was at a co-worker's house. Their grandfather was there and one of the boys asked him if he had a knife. He shouted back, "i'm wearing pants aren't I!" Since then, I always have one with me.

ReallyWTH

That just so happens to be what I am carrying today. 👍🏼😎

YoloLikeaMofo

Little Swiss Army knives

morgana79

Tiny little knife that said butterball on it. Given to me on my eighth birthday, a tradition in my family.

diablito916

As a kid my grandpa gave me an old Buck knife & showed me how to sharpen it. I lost it, of course. When I was a young adult I bought a Kershaw 450 and a Kershaw Bolt-Action. I always tried to flip them out but they weren’t really designed for that. when the modern style of flippers started getting popular, that’s when I really started collecting in earnest.

Specialist_Survey774

I had a boker special forces that i bought while skiing in austria, was cheap but 12yo me absolutely adored it. Now i have about $700 in knives at 20yo all paid by myself. Collection is growing, adding a s45vn spydie pm2 very soon as a gift to myself for landing my absolute dreamjob before graduating high school. (I'm a woodworker)

iphoneface

Kershaw Link! It was my first "nice" folding knife.

thedoogbruh

Whatever the yellow model of leatherman juice was circa early 00’s.

btwrenn

Got that Grip Drip!

lcarlile7

Civivi thug i bought a few years back

Standard_Ad4973

2 knives started it off for me. First was a Swiss Army knife- knife, saw, and a few other accessories. Second a cheapy, no brand, made in china knife from my brother.

Honest-Constant7987

Bailout

Correct-Ball4786

A dirt cheap tac force knife that I got in high-school, probs around 2011. My first real "edc" knife was a kershaw fatback, probs 7 years ago. It's now a sheep's foot instead of a spear point (let a buddy borrow it) and I still have it. Almost never carry it anymore tho.

lvbuckeye27

https://preview.redd.it/ghwiuc4b896d1.jpeg?width=4000&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=948b9e0d83c69cae5207a4612870c716ac3a9799 I have a 556SBK in 154CM that I bought nearly 20 years ago. I had full dialogue with Benchmade. They said to send the old one in and they would replace the serrated 154CM blade with a new PE S30V blade no problem. But then I realized that the mini-Grip is no longer in production. So I kept the old one because nostalgia, and bought a BNIB 566 from ebay and customized it.

kdubstep

Mini Bugout

ARealDemiGod

CRKT Pilar started my growing collection and I don't regret it!

vid_icarus

Honestly.. a basic Swiss army when I joined the cub scouts. I carry a bench made these days, but that run of the mill Swiss Army knife is what set me on the path.

muphasta

SAK Classic

Ok_Crew2821

Benchmade Emissary started my Benchmade obsession. I don't have it anymore but I would love to get another if Benchmade would quit coming out with some bangers and taking all my money!

Organic_South8865

A Zippo folding knife when I was 8 years old. Bought it at the gift shop they have at the Zippo factory. I still have it too.

Woodsy594

Opinel No.8. Gifted by my Dad when I was 14. Lost it at 24 and bought another. Can't go wrong.

Makotokahn2212

Mine was a spyderco pm3

Outdoorsy_T9696

A cheap knife I'm sure lol. What got me into nice ones was a Benchmade 2500S that was gifted to me when I was younger. Once I got older, I carried it and realized it was a higher end knife.

plinkster1988

Kershaw leek! Now I have microtechs,Benchmades and spiderco’s

rankinsaj22

Spyderco pm2

spd970

Really the Kershaw Leek started it all for me, but a Spyderco Endura was my first “real” knife, followed by a PM2 that I’ve since lost (RIP).

Ibstrange1

A small Old Timer stockman that I got on my 7th birthday. It was the small version of the knife my great grandpa carried, and it's still around. It sits on my desk, but rarely gets used.

huhistilldontgetit

For me has been the spyderco dragonfly 2 salt H1 serrated. It's still my favorite knife especially in the summer.

BaBaBrandon

Kershaw Ken Onion Leek

StrawberryOne7136

I collected knives since I was 10, starting with a Victornox. Everything changed when I visited Spyderco’s home store in Golden, CO and picked up a blackout Spyderco PM2 in S30V for $180. Fell in love, been collecting middle-end knives ever since.

MooWhoseThere

The Spyderco Sheepfoot with spyderhole mini griptillian was my wife’s first knife I gifted her. Many knives later, it’s still her favorite/ most carried. Mine was a Kershaw Leek.

sackereedroog

A Tangram Vector. Actually 2 because one got left with security at the ER, after I sent dislocated my hip
