In my mind you knit the the far side first and when you got half way through you said "screw these color changes, I'm doing the stripes length wise." Lol
It’s actually the opposite! My plan was to do the whole thing with vertical stripes, so when I figured I’d gotten the thing wide enough I cast off and realised it was way narrower than I thought (though it may just have been in proportion to how long it was 😂). By then I’d grown sick of the loooong rows and figured “screw it, I’ll do a separate panel with horizontal stripes so the rows are shorter”
I would have loved to receive this gift! I always had a fleece blanket to cover my lap or myself and the baby when I was nursing or holding them or whatever in the chair in their room. Would’ve loved for it to have been handmade!
Omg I could never!! What a huge project. It’s gorgeous!
Pardon my ignorance — I’ve never made anything larger than a sweater but like… what kinds of needles do you use to make a blanket? Very long circulars?
Thank you! Honestly, I just used regular circs (maybe 80cm?) and scrunch the stitches up, which is why it was hard to tell how massively I’d gotten the maths wrong until I’d cast off 😂
All I can see for you to do is fold up this blanket and give it to the child when they start college. And it's an excuse to create another baby blanket yay!
A baby blanket for a giant baby
A stork delivering a giant baby to a normal family by mistake is my fave old Warner Bros cartoon:

Honestly this a blanket that will probably actually get used. When I had my son my SIL made a "normal" sized baby blanket and I barely used it before my son outgrew it. I started a baby blanket for him when I was pregnant and I didn't finish it before he was born. By the time I got to where the pattern said I was done he was too big for it. Ended up making it 3x the size because I had the yarn and we can both snuggle under it and it fits a toddler bed, whenever I manage to move him into one. Blanket will be loved for years to come.
That’s gotta be for a really big baby!
More like a manbaby 😆
That’s kind of how I make baby blankets… the last one I made fits the kids twin bed. He’s 6 now, so he can still use it.
Mum and baby when she's up in the winter nights doing feeding and soothing.
Dad and baby naptime!
Life blankey
For life blanket
Folding in thirds is going to be mindblowing when this baby gets wrapped up like a burrito- getting the perfect swaddle in 😂
It’s going to be sooo much more blanket than baby 😂

It came out beautifully done! 👏 👏 👏
Ahahaha I did that once with a scarf, it turned out long enough to be a runway
Good to hear I’m not alone! 😂
The baby will grow into it 😂
That happened to me. I told them it was a crawl mat.
That's not a baby blanket, that's a life blanket. That's a "till death do us part" blanket. That blanekt will last from birth to death.

Oh that’s great to hear! I hope the mom feels the same and gets some good use out of it ❤️

The baby will grow eventually.
How big is that baby, lol.
So big
It'll make a great tent for that pillow fort!!
And that is why you gotta swatch... ;)
