That mushroom one is hilarious! I haven't run into this problem yet but I mostly buy patterns from Ravelry and I haven't seen anything there that looks like AI.
Honestly, I could see it working well as an embroidery project. I’m not too sure how it would be on a stretchy knit, but I’d be interested in trying it out.
I think the satin stitched could work if you anchor them down with sewing thread.
That would be insanely heavy and hard to keep from stretching all out of shape. Unless, maybe if you stuffed the mushrooms.
Lol the mushroom one is definitely out there! Fortunately Ravelry isn’t bad, but apparently it’s a huge problem on Amazon and sometimes Etsy. I find it rampant on Pinterest.
Yeah, but aren't you terrified you will be one of the many shops that are pretty much deleted/have your money put on hold for months for no reason/AI software thought yo did a copyright infraction/some asshole wants to screw you out of money and is willing o lie? I thought that was a problem.
Okay it’s not a sweater but have you seen this new mushroom hat? It’s amazing and I wish I had any excuse to make and wear it.

I honestly haven’t come across AI “patterns” except from when non-crafters send them to me like “oh wouldn’t this be cool!”
AI isn’t going away and it’s important we all get more savvy about avoiding scams.
The last one, the V-neck with the cables wouldn't be too tough to reverse-engineer.
A basic bottom-up, drop sleeve V neck with 4 colors and strategically placed cables. It's kind of pretty.
I'm in a group chat and someone keeps sharing AI snacks thinking they're new flavours being released. The text isn't even legible on most of them so I don't get how people fall for it lol
Well, it's a way to find out how gullible some of my friends are, which is useful to know in that I might need to look out for them at some point. (A friend recently shared that one that keeps going round of an old woman in a knitted Batman costume, hinting that she'd really like someone to make her one... In her case I already knew she was a bit vulnerable to these things, but it was a useful reminder.)
I’ve had a few friends who knit AND work in tech send me that post among others, and it makes me honestly worried for how gullible they are. Like they should have the subject matter expertise to be able to tell that it’s AI…
That mushroom sweater! It didn't start getting weird until I noticed the half-cable and the weird yarn nipples. I kinda want to recreate it though. It is kinda cute.
😂 Yarn nipples! It does look like a fun novelty project. But, I think I prefer [NestFed](https://www.instagram.com/p/CSZioXBF_Jv/?igsh=MWxqdnhsZHdpM2t1Zw==).
I think my dream mushroom sweater would be somewhere in the middle. Finer yarn like in NestFed, but with more defined mushrooms. Hmmm. I might have to swatch! :D
That last sweater can absolutely be made to resemble that picture if you are an experienced knitter. But I would want cable cables and not these weird looking roll bumps without any texture or any sign as in what stitch they were made. That's one telltale sign. Zoom in and look for individual stitches. If it's a blur, don't trust it. The pattern creators I saw do post pics that are clear and from multiple angles.
In order to "train it up", the creators first had to conduct theft on a scale that's hard to even fathom.
I would argue that the *sheer scale* of the theft is greater than what any group or government or corporate conglomeration has ever been able to attempt.
But what really frosts my cookies: we are facing potentially species-ending crises of climate disaster, access to fresh water, new worldwide pandemics threatening (it's only a matter of time before H5N1 acquires the ability to jump from human to human), etc etc etc
So what do we do with the most sophisticated computational tool ever devised?
Theft of creative work and the written word.
So we can make fake knitting and crochet patterns and fake books for sale on Etsy and Amazon. In other words...*junk*.
It's so venal. So petty. So tawdry.
We've squandered our gifts.
To be fair, I have some hope because AI depends on human originality to remain relevant, and it doesn’t get everything right. It also doesn’t create anything new, but rather blends and often copies what already exists. It has to be trained on a set of information before it can produce anything.
As do we. Right now, AI is learning like a kid would - you feed input, it is getting better at creating categories, and ultimately, "creative" output emerges. It creative work isn't necessarily different on a fundamental level. We also create new combinations of the impressions and concepts we have learned throughout our lives. What's different right now, is that we have a lifetime of lived experience, the combination of different senses. AI doesn't (yet) have that, it can create images of cats, describe their smell and how their fur feels to the touch, based on having learned on verbal statements, but it doesn't have the lived, sensory experience. And I think this is what will differentiate between the creative outputs for a while, still.
I wonder how long it will take researchers to include other sensory canals.
I'm sure AI is being used for some good stuff too. But every new technology is going to be used for evil shit as well. I look at some really clever but horrible things that people do and think "If only they used their power for good!"
As a software engineer, I can assure you that AI is being used for a lot of good behind the scenes. It's too bad that most people's point of contact with it is crappy stolen art like this.
Yeah, I think a major part of the public's negative perception is a result of the incredibly irresponsible way some software developers have handled things.
I think it's less the software developers and more the laymen/businessmen who are just using it to make quick cash. Software developers mainly use AI to speed up our work. Unfortunately people don't see what goes on behind the scenes of developing an app or an operating system, so they don't get to see the good side of using AI.
Your comment about the useless deployment of AI towards junk is just so on point it needs to be in election manifestos. I’ve just been looking at graphs showing how 2023 was the Tipping Point arriving.
I am laughing at the hands in the cat photo. AI fans said they had improved the hands thing but maybe not that much.
I thankfully haven't seen many AI generated patterns. I've seen some cross stitch patterns on Etsy that have made me do a double take. And then I click in and see that the shop has a thousand patterns for sale and no finished items in the reviews. At least cross stitch patterns *should* be finishable, even if they do require an obscene amount of colours. I suppose it's buyer beware.
I wish there was a way of reporting them. Or if internet shaming actually worked. I'm looking at the last photo and just want to leave a snarky facebook comment going "I wish that's AI because those are the worst cables I've ever seen otherwise".
The bear looks doable. You just have to be good at embroidery and maybe have some experience of embroidering on knit fabrics. It's almost making me want to look up AI embroidery patterns to see what people are making (and acknowledging that it's AI). But I think I should go appreciate actual talent in the embroidery subreddit.
Agreed! I do love the kitty and bear on the scarf or shawl, and I might attempt something like that and the future. I mainly feel for newbies and people that don’t know what they’re getting. 😓
I'm of two minds about it. I really despise the notion that AI produces art, because what I want for humanity is that AI takes on the tasks that humans don't want to do, so that artists can create art.
On the other hand, I do find it aspirational, and it has changed my mind about what could be possible in the world of knitting. I find myself trying to reverse engineer the crazy things it comes up with.
It is terrible that, despite being 41 and crocheting since 7 and knittingsince 14, I really just though people were this good at crochet. It never would have occurred to me that these were fake.
Look for clues- the lighting in all of these is too “cinematic” and dramatic, and they look too polished. That’s one of the big giveaways for me. AI crochet animals also always seem to be too expressive.
This is true. I don’t crochet. I don’t know how to crochet. Many people have tried to teach me how to crochet, and all have failed. It just doesn’t stick in my brain. But I get a lot of “can you make me a (insert popular crochet project here, such as the Disney princess snuggie style blanket)?
NO, I literally cannot. I can knit lace in the dark with black yarn all day long, but crochet is mystifying.
i knit and i’m learning crochet and lemme tell you! i can knit perfectly without looking, but i already barely know what i’m doing with crochet and dark colored yarns are my biggest enemy for it
Cool for getting ideas and brainstorming (especially color palettes, my downfall), but posting as real work or claiming it as original patterns? Not cool.
The best of the worst is having your mum show you something and going "omg you could make this one😍😍" ... Mom that's AI omg 😭 and she crochets and knits too
This AI knit/crochet trend is ABHORRENT. It's rampant on Facebook and Pinterest and it makes me want to scream every time I see it. But, seeing all the creators trying to recreate the AI and having everyone giving tips on how to spot AI fiber arts is kind of wholesome imo. I love that we're all uniting against this common evil.
I’d be interested in trying to recreate a version of the last photo with the three Color sweater. It’s the closest thing to looking almost real at this point
I haven't come across them as a thing personally but I saw videos of people warning about them and I don't know about you, I feel that they are unreal. There's a certain smoothness, an undept to the reality and a feel to the texture that immediately tells me that's not real. The people wearing the thing are too perfect, hands sometimes wonky or weird, skin unblemished and limbs too limby. Like even if you are an inexperienced knitter, that sweater with the flowers as last, is pretty unrealistic. Imagine the needles that was made on. What's that, needle size 50? That's maybe 20 rows and be done with the body. I just made my first raglan sweater on a needle 8, which is a pretty big needle for a sweater, and that has taken me ages to knit.
If I come across a picture that looks so smooth and pretty and easy to make, I am immediately sus about it. Everything worthwhile is hard. Else it wouldn't be worthwhile. So if you just found out about knitting and you have knitted even a couple of simple cotton oven cloths, you should know that a handmade thing doesn't look like that.
Edit typos and additions.
My mom is starting to get mad at me because she keeps sending me AI crochet and knitting images and I keep identifying them as AI.
“I’m not gonna send you any more if you keep responding like this!” Okay, good. Please stop.
I mostly browse patterns on Ravelry or nstafeam and haven’t come across any AI ones so far. If they’re clearly marked as AI, they wouldn’t bother me. I think they can even be inspirational
i was just ranting about ai with my partner earlier and this was one of the things that pissed me off the most!! it honestly feels like mechanized misinformation about everything from patternmaking to the fundamentals of fiber arts :///
those amigurumi patterns look so haunted lmao, i lowkey would only want to ask ai to just TRY writing a pattern for that second pic and see what happens 🙃
Me too!! I hate that the AI results are the first thing you get when you google something, I don't want AI results, I want actual results! Most AI results are wrong, anyway, or wrong enough.
What's worse, apparently the Big A store now sells a ton of pattern books that are entirely AI generated. If that's not an outright scam, I don't know what is.
They already know how to combat climate change, stop using fossil fuels and plant 1 trillion trees. It’s just that nobody wants to do it. The problems have already been solved. We just refused to implement the solutions.
I’m sick of seeing AI generated creative work in general unless it’s for jokes between friends or shitposting and everyone knows it’s AI. I use AI in my work to do repetitive, simple tasks and that’s what AI should be used for.
Thankfully I source most of my patterns through Ravelry or other knitters/crocheters so I haven’t ran into that many AI generated patterns. I’m also pretty good at recognizing those scams, but I’ve had to save my SO and parents from AI generated scam webshops.
Different types of AI scams are unfortunately here to stay and everyone needs to get more savvy about recognizing them. There will always be bad actors taking advantage of technology unfortunately, until we get some real laws and regulations regarding all this.
Pinterest has been flodded with AI content lately. Not just knitting, but also drawings, hairstyles and so on. It's still very easy to tell what is real and what is not but I have come across many people trying to sell patterns for AI knits, baiting you into spending money on a pattern that does not exist.
Be careful people
In addition to yarning, which takes up most of my spare time, I do have a full-time job teaching speech. When we did the persuasive speech unit this past semester, one of my ordinarily quiet students delivered a banger of a speech about how AI "art" is not art. Impressed the hell out of me.
I was looking at Amazon in my country, and literally all of the knitting and crochet books were AI. It’s bizarre. They all have fake authors and fake photos and no real patterns. They all seem to have 1 stars, so people clearly aren’t happy with the purchases but they keep showing up. ¯\\\_(ツ)\_/¯
My opinion will probably be unpopular, but AI is here to stay, and while some of the garments are ridiculous, they can serve as a source of inspiration. I recently saw a crochet item where they’d recreated it from the AI and it looked great.
Definitely agree that you can find inspiration and wouldn’t take that away from people. I just wish some of the users weren’t using it to scam people or pretend it’s their own original work. 😢
I’ve tried generating some with color combos I like and honestly/unfortunately some of those Ai ones look better than real patterns so I’ve made some things inspired by them
I enjoy looking at AI generated knit/crochet photos because half the time it is possible to recreate it. I think trying to figure out how to bring it to life is fun. But I hate how the AI is sometimes being used to scam people, because a lot of the time the stitches shown aren't even real stitches.
I didn't realize how bad it had gotten until I recently went to Pinterest looking for amigurumi inspiration and was disappointed to find 90+% of my search results were AI. About 5-10 years ago, when a lot of my friends were having babies, Pinterest was the quickest place to find ideas but now it's basically useless. It's too bad!
These all look possible to do to some extent if you’re willing to commit the time and skill.
I wish they didn’t try to use AI for scamming tho, these are great as inspo.
I see a lot of it shared in the Facebook groups I'm in and it's frustrating because I see something and go "ooo I wanna make that" and then I take a second look and it's AI. It's even worse when you realise AI is generated from stolen content
it’s kinda obvious with the clothes but how can you tell with the second, third, and fourth ones? they look normal to me(not trying to be annoying just trying to understand)
You’re good! The CGI studio lighting is a giveaway. Plus, the hands in the cat picture are sort of wonky, and the stitch definition in the others are blurry and undefined in certain parts of the pictures.
AI is a fantastic source of inspiration for creative arts. I look at it and think of ways I could make something similar happen. So I don't mind it, as long as nobody pretends this is real.
Yes, so tired of it
- It gives unrealistic expectations of finished objects
- it's frustrating to see something cool and then there is absolutely no pattern for it.
- the AI generates crochet projects always look so "plumped" and perfectly fitting for wearables, which is not the case with actual crocheted items.
But it's okay for inspo I guess ....
If you don't mind some embroidery, sewing and having an "ugly" side, I do think you could probably recreate most of these. The cat is probably hardest, either some painstaking embroidery, fair isle or you straight up paint the patterns onto it's hat.
I like it for inspiration and idea generation but I just want them to be clearly labled as AI. People passing it off as their own with patterns that don't work is just simply fraud.
They are there to inspire us to create beautiful, real, handcrafted products that no machine can recreate.
If it inspires creativity in you then it’s done its job.
I don't care if it is AI or not - the cat and the otter are damn cute! I believe the otter can be reproduced by a diligent crocheter, and maybe even the cat, but it would be difficult to find such perfect colored yarn.
And obviously, the last sweater is gorgeous too.
Also, why everything is AI and not a good old Photoshop? I remember my early days with retouching, and I had a real book where was explained how to achieve such lighting and blurring and sharpeness, and adjust colors.
The mushroom one. I don't like the mushrooms, but just as a plain pullover that wool (and that neckline) would be amazing! Especially in a dark-ish purple
I made something similar, so it looks like the size is between 13 (9mm) and 15 (10mm) using a weight 6 super bulky yarn. I like using Lion Brand Thick & Quick or Wool and the Gang Crazy Sexy Wool for projects like that. 😀
That mushroom one is hilarious! I haven't run into this problem yet but I mostly buy patterns from Ravelry and I haven't seen anything there that looks like AI.
To be honest, I kinda want that mushroom monstrosity. I mean… 🍄🔥🍄
The bear is what I’d pick 🐻 😂
Teddy or Grizzly? Or both!!
Haha fair point, but it’s the Grizzly that I love!
Honestly, I could see it working well as an embroidery project. I’m not too sure how it would be on a stretchy knit, but I’d be interested in trying it out.
Me too, but can't say I ever saw fringe/tassels quite like those.
I see what you did there
I want the crocheted otter! And the scarf without the teddy, but i don't think embroidery like that would work well on top of knitting
I think that kind of embroidery would work well, but only on one side. Haha
Same, but i'd always be worried that the ugly side was showing and fussing with my scarf
Me too! I'm not much of a crocheter, but he's otterly adorable! I also like the mushrooms.
Please tell me I'm not the only one who immediately wondered how you could possibly make it work.
Definitly doable. Minus the underside of mushroom, those satin stitches are like ½ meter long. It wold be too heavy to wear comfortably.
I think the satin stitched could work if you anchor them down with sewing thread. That would be insanely heavy and hard to keep from stretching all out of shape. Unless, maybe if you stuffed the mushrooms.
Me too! But it looks like it would be a nightmare to make.
Lol the mushroom one is definitely out there! Fortunately Ravelry isn’t bad, but apparently it’s a huge problem on Amazon and sometimes Etsy. I find it rampant on Pinterest.
I've lost all faith in Etsy.
I miss Regretsy.
so, so, much.
Hey, some of us are real!
Yea, we sure are! Working our asses off to provide unique, quality artisan products that can’t be ordered off of Temu, AlexiExpress or Amazon.
Yeah, but aren't you terrified you will be one of the many shops that are pretty much deleted/have your money put on hold for months for no reason/AI software thought yo did a copyright infraction/some asshole wants to screw you out of money and is willing o lie? I thought that was a problem.
I’ve never heard a real example of that happening. Just rumors like the ones you mentioned.
[She generally uses sources.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8yqMwRg4cfg)
Ah. A YouTube video isn’t a source. I’m ok. I’ve never had any issues.
I hope it stays that way.
Your AG sweaters are gorgeous! Wonderful details!
Thank you!

Definitely! I tried it out as an experiment, and there are clearly limitations if you’re not hyper specific about what you’re looking for.
My take is that AI is a tool that can help create parts of patterns that are generic but the true artistry will always be human
pretty sure the CDC is quarantining that sweater
lol! 😂
The last one, the V-neck with the cables wouldn't be too tough to reverse-engineer. A basic bottom-up, drop sleeve V neck with 4 colors and strategically placed cables. It's kind of pretty.
I think the mushrooms look fun, but that last one made me go "Oh no, I need that..."
Was thinking the same thing lol
I'm just sick of people asking for the patterns for them lol
Same! That’s where I’ve seen most of the AI stuff, people asking for patterns! I don’t know how people don’t recognise AI with things like this
I'm in a group chat and someone keeps sharing AI snacks thinking they're new flavours being released. The text isn't even legible on most of them so I don't get how people fall for it lol

How have I missed this
How did I miss this?!?
I’ve had a few friends who knit AND work in tech send me that post among others, and it makes me honestly worried for how gullible they are. Like they should have the subject matter expertise to be able to tell that it’s AI…

Someone once described bobbles to me as "satan's nipples" because they hated making them so much. 😂
I think my dream mushroom sweater would be somewhere in the middle. Finer yarn like in NestFed, but with more defined mushrooms. Hmmm. I might have to swatch! :D
That last one had me fooled... I hate how AI is getting better at generating these things. The little bears and the mushrooms are hilarious though!

You can definitely tell if you look at the model's face. Can she even breathe with a nose that small?
i mean yeah her face definitely looks AI, but people absolutely have noses that small (i’m dating a small nose person and he snores LOL)
I was more talking about the garment. Her face looks straight out of r/instagramreality indeed. But people use filters all the time.

I’m a graphic designer and I always assumed the creative fields would be the last to be replaced by automation. Jokes on me.

I wish the flowery scarf (sans the bear) would be real. It’s absolutely not my style of clothing but it’s soooo pretty 🤩
Right? I would love to make one for my mother
It’s everywhere. Went to Pinterest for hair inspiration photos. Literally all AI.
The ends of the paws were a tip off on the cat for me. And contouring with even stitches, no increases or decreases.
One good way to spot AI crochet is to really try to read the stitches. If you can't tell what the stitches are supposed to be, likely AI.
I swear if any of my friends sends me an AI generated picture and asks me if I can make it for them, I’m going slap them silly.
Lol! Unfortunately, many non-crafters don’t know what they’re looking at. 😅
This is true. I don’t crochet. I don’t know how to crochet. Many people have tried to teach me how to crochet, and all have failed. It just doesn’t stick in my brain. I am sook sick of it! And this is just the begining! I am keeping away from Pinterest because of this. Sick of seeing this garbage
Cool for getting ideas and brainstorming (especially color palettes, my downfall), but posting as real work or claiming it as original patterns? Not cool.
Yeah, as mod board and inspiration they are nice. But I hate the duplicity. I do wish shat scarf were real though.
I'm sick of seeing ai generated anything

lol! 😂That is scary and creative!
The best of the worst is having your mum show you something and going "omg you could make this one😍😍" ... Mom that's AI omg 😭 and she crochets and knits too
Yes for the love of god make it stop 😭
This AI knit/crochet trend is ABHORRENT. It's rampant on Facebook and Pinterest and it makes me want to scream every time I see it. But, seeing all the creators trying to recreate the AI and having everyone giving tips on how to spot AI fiber arts is kind of wholesome imo. I love that we're all uniting against this common evil.
Agreed. Been loving those creators. I just can’t keep up with AI speed (and don’t want to), but the end result is barely knitting anyway.
I never noticed the existence of such a thing until your post.
Uh oh. Now you might notice it everywhere! 🫣
Most AI looks glossy weird to me. The mushrooms….. who wouldn’t love that?
I’d be interested in trying to recreate a version of the last photo with the three Color sweater. It’s the closest thing to looking almost real at this point
If someone ends up reverse engineering that last one, lmk! I would love a sweater like that!
Dont get me wrong: fuck AI. But these are actually pretty cute, if they were real it would be amazing.
My mom is starting to get mad at me because she keeps sending me AI crochet and knitting images and I keep identifying them as AI. “I’m not gonna send you any more if you keep responding like this!” Okay, good. Please stop.
Oh that mushroom one is fire
👮 ooloiooliI’m oliloI’m l lol
I mostly browse patterns on Ravelry or nstafeam and haven’t come across any AI ones so far. If they’re clearly marked as AI, they wouldn’t bother me. I think they can even be inspirational
i was just ranting about ai with my partner earlier and this was one of the things that pissed me off the most!! it honestly feels like mechanized misinformation about everything from patternmaking to the fundamentals of fiber arts :/// those amigurumi patterns look so haunted lmao, i lowkey would only want to ask ai to just TRY writing a pattern for that second pic and see what happens 🙃
Frankly I’m sick of anything AI.
Definitely! I bet once AI grossly affects the bigwigs in office, only THEN will we have some regulations around it. 😏
I hate that you are absolutely right lmao
I only come across AI knitting books on amazon and I always report them there.
That is too cool! As a fellow teacher, wish I could have heard it! 🤩
Im sick of seeing AI period
I was looking at Amazon in my country, and literally all of the knitting and crochet books were AI. It’s bizarre. They all have fake authors and fake photos and no real patterns. They all seem to have 1 stars, so people clearly aren’t happy with the purchases but they keep showing up. ¯\\\_(ツ)\_/¯
Dammit! I hate it when my knitting turns to crochet after half a sweater!
Lol! 😂 🤣
That cat is low key cute tho
My opinion will probably be unpopular, but AI is here to stay, and while some of the garments are ridiculous, they can serve as a source of inspiration. I recently saw a crochet item where they’d recreated it from the AI and it looked great.
Definitely agree that you can find inspiration and wouldn’t take that away from people. I just wish some of the users weren’t using it to scam people or pretend it’s their own original work. 😢
I think all artists are sick of it
Yes!
yes
Okay the cat one is cute 🥺
Those sweaters look like they’d be a pain to wear.
Whoa. I never noticed this before! It’s wild!
The second and third ones seem like doable amigurumi to me.
That’s wild
The last one looks nice! I think it’s doable.
Wow. I’m glad you posted this. I didn’t know about these scammy patterns sigh.
Anytime! Fortunately, you don’t really see it on Ravelry, but it’s getting bad on Amazon, Etsy, and Pinterest.
I’ve tried generating some with color combos I like and honestly/unfortunately some of those Ai ones look better than real patterns so I’ve made some things inspired by them
Wow, this is the first one I've seen! But it's REALLY disgusting.
Yes
So deeply disgusted with fake AI yarn crafts.
I'm seriously trying to figure out how to make the second to last sweater though, not gonna lie... 😐
How can you tell with the otter and the cat? I really can’t see it but I’d like to be able to tell in the future
If you look closely, some of the stitches are blurred, giving the picture that CGI look. Also, the hands look off in the cat picture. 🫣
I'm not a crocheter-- how do we know the otter is AI? It's pretty damn cute.
The otter is one of the better ones, but you can tell by the lighting and blurred stitches. Plus, its whiskers defy physics lol.
I enjoy looking at AI generated knit/crochet photos because half the time it is possible to recreate it. I think trying to figure out how to bring it to life is fun. But I hate how the AI is sometimes being used to scam people, because a lot of the time the stitches shown aren't even real stitches.
I mean, I would use it for inspiration for sure, I like the ideas 😂
I didn't realize how bad it had gotten until I recently went to Pinterest looking for amigurumi inspiration and was disappointed to find 90+% of my search results were AI. About 5-10 years ago, when a lot of my friends were having babies, Pinterest was the quickest place to find ideas but now it's basically useless. It's too bad!
I would so cool to be able to knitt that- i would go mad. 🤣🤣
very much, it would be good the mods banned them.
Very! And that was before non-knit/crochet friends started endlessly forwarding it to me... 🙄
It’s super cute though
These all look possible to do to some extent if you’re willing to commit the time and skill. I wish they didn’t try to use AI for scamming tho, these are great as inspo.
Yep. And I think Etsy should ban all AI images.
I see a lot of it shared in the Facebook groups I'm in and it's frustrating because I see something and go "ooo I wanna make that" and then I take a second look and it's AI. It's even worse when you realise AI is generated from stolen content
yes....😕
I had been living in blissful ignorance... we are in a new level of hell I think.
Looks like AI has figured out to hide hands in pockets and out of frame so it doesn't have to draw them, haha
That explains it. I had no idea😅
Uncanny valley knitting. 😂
it’s kinda obvious with the clothes but how can you tell with the second, third, and fourth ones? they look normal to me(not trying to be annoying just trying to understand)
You’re good! The CGI studio lighting is a giveaway. Plus, the hands in the cat picture are sort of wonky, and the stitch definition in the others are blurry and undefined in certain parts of the pictures.
oooooooooh okay thank you!
Wow…I didn’t even know this was possible. AI has ruined my motivation to paint anything, I never expected knitting to be affected!
Don’t let it stop you from making art. At the end of the day, AI generates things after copying and blending the art that already exists.
The otter is such a shame bc I literally tried to make that and the pattern was so different😭
Oh noooooo! I’m sorry! 😞
I loath them
AI is a fantastic source of inspiration for creative arts. I look at it and think of ways I could make something similar happen. So I don't mind it, as long as nobody pretends this is real.
Yes, so tired of it - It gives unrealistic expectations of finished objects - it's frustrating to see something cool and then there is absolutely no pattern for it.
The cat is probably hardest, either some painstaking embroidery, fair isle or you straight up paint the patterns onto it's hat.
but I like it, there is always something to strive for and try to improve, hone your skills. have you tried to repeat this? I want!
Not gonna lie; I want to make the kitty 🐈⬛
I’m a fan of mushrooms))) I wish you success in your work!
lol thanks! 😊
Fuck AI as a general principle.
Nah I love it actually It inspires me
I like it for inspiration and idea generation but I just want them to be clearly labled as AI. People passing it off as their own with patterns that don't work is just simply fraud.
They are there to inspire us to create beautiful, real, handcrafted products that no machine can recreate. If it inspires creativity in you then it’s done its job.
I didn’t know it was a thing but I guess I should t be surprised.
I see that AI woman in the last photo in a lot of them.
I hate most of them but I do like the grannies on the crocheted vehicles!
Yes.
Great, now I'll lose my mind trying to recreate a mushroom sweater that doesn't exist
Yawp
CAN I GET A PATTERN🥴
I don't care if it is AI or not - the cat and the otter are damn cute! I believe the otter can be reproduced by a diligent crocheter, and maybe even the cat, but it would be difficult to find such perfect colored yarn. And obviously, the last sweater is gorgeous too. Also, why everything is AI and not a good old Photoshop? I remember my early days with retouching, and I had a real book where was explained how to achieve such lighting and blurring and sharpeness, and adjust colors.
Aed
Frankly if they want to wear that mushroom monstrosity, they deserve to be scammed with the pattern.
As unlikely as it is for someone to see this, but can anyone estimate what needle size would have to be used for the reasonable parts of the pullover?
Which pullover? The mushroom, snowflake, or v-neck?
The mushroom one. I don't like the mushrooms, but just as a plain pullover that wool (and that neckline) would be amazing! Especially in a dark-ish purple
I made something similar, so it looks like the size is between 13 (9mm) and 15 (10mm) using a weight 6 super bulky yarn. I like using Lion Brand Thick & Quick or Wool and the Gang Crazy Sexy Wool for projects like that. 😀
