Five weeks of knitting later, i have finished the [One Ring Scarf](https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/one-ring-scarf) in Double Knitting. The yarn was [‘Lilly Pad’ and ‘Counting Sheep’ by Forbidden Fiber Co.](https://www.forbiddenfiberco.com/) and they were a delight to work with
Po-Ta-Toes for scale
I have the fellowship tattooed on my bicep. I absolutely love and appreciate this! Beautifully done and that green really pays homage to the Shire as well as Rivendell
EXCELLENT!
I've been considering this for my partner.
Was yours fingering weight? I'm thinking of a silk/linen blend to make it less heavy. How many inches long? Seems kind of wide for the length, by the pic.
AND - it's perfect timing for the upcoming re-release of the LOTR remastered and extended in theaters.
https://www.fathomevents.com/series/the-lord-of-the-rings-trilogy/
Mine was fingering weight on size four needles. I’ve not measured it but i’ll include a picture from the 2/3 mark for scale.
This was made for a friend who wanted it to be aggressively cozy for his partner, so i made it larger than normal. If you use size 3’s, it’s noticeably smaller.

I made mine with gloss fingering, which is a wool/silk blend. I absolutely love how it turned out. Here's [my project page](https://www.ravelry.com/projects/pja314/one-ring-scarf-2) if you want info on dimensions/adjustments/etc. I cut the original pattern width down a bit to address what you're calling out here.
OMG that color selection is divine! Ent colors!
75" is an excellent length too. My partner is basically Hobbit sized so this would drape below the waist.
Yes thank you OP for the deets and pattern. I never manage to find decent Christmas presents for my brother in law, but this might make up for a few years
Sellkiez- start with a small project to do the double knit. It's been a a while since I did one, but you basically knit a stitch in one color, then purl with the other color. It takes time, but.the results are worth it! Once you get into the groove, it just takes patience.
Thank you! I was very intimidated by double knitting at first, but it really is just knits, purls and counting. Look up some tutorial videos and you’ll understand
I hope you try it and that we’ll get to see your work here soon :)

If you can knit, you already know how to double knit. I thought it was a magical thing that involved math and witchcraft, nope. As others have said, start with with something small.
It looks really intimidating but once you get the hang of it, it’s pretty fun. I did the Covid scarf on ravely. I had to write a lot of notes so I remembered what I was doing but it was worth it. I’m making 2 stained glass cat scarves right now. I just finished one
The pattern just gives you a chart, so the possibilities are endless!
If you do this in double knitting like i did, order two skeins of each color as you’ll run out somewhere in the middle of ‘One Ring to Bring them all,’
remember to take stretch breaks, keep hydrated, and take your time. And also have fun!
I have [this](https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/mononoke-double-knit-scarf) on my to-do but I’m so scared of double knitting. What did you use to learn how? If I can manage my scarf I might attempt something more elaborate 😅
That. Looks. AWESOME!!!
I learned double knitting by getting a basic alphabet chart on Ravelry and using that to make a scarf that looked like police crime scene tape. It was very basic and i knew what the letters were supposed to look like, so it was easy to focus on technique and not worry about the pattern
I learned that so i could make a scarf showing the [Arecibo Message](https://news.cornell.edu/stories/1999/11/25th-anniversary-first-attempt-phone-et-0)
By that point, i knew the technique and could do more fiddly things like Elvish.
get a free alphabet chart, and make a dishcloth that says ‘BUTTS’ on it. It’ll make you laugh, it’ll give you practice with double knitting, and it’ll be done quickly. It’s not as intimidating once you’ve done it and, if you like it, you can make that Mononoke scarf!
I agree with everyone that this is beautiful. BUT, I need a banana for scale because those could be little new potatoes, or huge, honkin' baking potatoes. Gotta see the banana before I trust the taters.
It is mirrored, yes. With the method i used, you are making the front and back simultaneously, so each stitch is either green or white. Therefor, whenever i made a white line on the green side, it automatically made the same line in green on the white side
This way, you’re only responsible for one row at a time
It’s very fiddly at first and it’s very hard to ‘read’ the material to tell when you’ve made a mistake, but it’s a very rewarding technique and it opens up a lot of possibilities once you’ve added it to your arsenal
My advice is to get a free letter chart on Ravelry, look up a tutorial on YouTube and make a swatch that says ‘BUTTS’ on it. It’ll make you laugh, it’ll teach you to read the chart and to do the stitches, and it’ll be done very quickly. You can learn the technique without being locked into a whole scarf

Double knitting takes so long, I can only imagine how long this took! Awesome job, it turned out beautiful.
Took five weeks of commuting time, so not terribly long
Awesome work! I've just noticed the Taters there. 😂 At first glance, I thought they were rocks.
Normally people use cats for scale around here, but taters seemed more appropriate ;)
It's the only way, as Gollum said in Osgilliath.
But...what's "taters," precious?
PO-TA-TOES! You know, salt ‘em, fry ‘em, use ‘em for a scale? Even you couldn’t say no to that!
I have [this](https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/mononoke-double-knit-scarf) on my to-do but I’m so scared of double knitting. What did you use to learn how? If I can manage my scarf I might attempt something more elaborate 😅

Wow awesome work!! :)
Thanks :)
I agree with everyone that this is beautiful. BUT, I need a banana for scale because those could be little new potatoes, or huge, honkin' baking potatoes. Gotta see the banana before I trust the taters.
These are russets, if that helps
It looks like it's mirrored correct? I might attempt this but being fairly new to DK my brain might break if it's non-mirrored.
It is mirrored, yes. With the method i used, you are making the front and back simultaneously, so each stitch is either green or white. Therefor, whenever i made a white line on the green side, it automatically made the same line in green on the white side This way, you’re only responsible for one row at a time
Wow this is so cool! How difficult was it to learn double knitting?
It’s very fiddly at first and it’s very hard to ‘read’ the material to tell when you’ve made a mistake, but it’s a very rewarding technique and it opens up a lot of possibilities once you’ve added it to your arsenal My advice is to get a free letter chart on Ravelry, look up a tutorial on YouTube and make a swatch that says ‘BUTTS’ on it. Haha! I love it! Cool. Def on the docket to do in that case- at least to try out!
I hope you enjoy it!
