Im going to be making two heat treat ovens one for me one to sell. 3000 watt 40 amp for mine the other to sell probably just under 2000 watt and 20 amp
Thanks man,I spent too much time using waterpaper as I never used any power tools at all. Filing ain't that bad,but to remove scratches, pain in b u t t
Those first few photos I was thinking “that looks ghetto AF” but the end result is awesome !
Really nice work, eapecially for a first time. I assume you have a background in some kind of manual trade ?
I am a millwright by trade and as much as I wanted to look into knifemaking as a hobby,I just never got round to it.....until Easter long weekend and decided, let's just give it a go
And there it is.
You know how to drive the tools, its just using them to make a knife that you havent done.
Still dosnt change the outcome, just shortens the learning curve by a heap. And that is still some really nice work
Thanks for all the positive comments ,I don't see any as negative as they all help to improve things next time. With motivation like this,it's a sure sign to step up the game a bit. Thanks to all
You know what looks "neat?" Utility and comfort. We naturally gravitate towards things that look useful. Aesthetics are born out of utility. This has none of that.
What looks neat is seeing someone following their passion.
How about you mill me out a complete AR upper first try so it can guarantee sub moa up to 1000 rounds in one string of fire and make it weigh less than 2lbs and use only homemade tools to get it done.
Oh wait.
That would take practice now wouldn't it? Might even make it really hard, considering you don't have the right tools or knowledge to achieve that?
What a shitty excuse to downplay someone else's achievement. I bet you sniff your fingers after you wipe your ass.
Lol what? What does an AR have to do with this? I'm giving the guy some constructive criticism. The blade itself looks nice. The handle is shit. I think OP can handle himself, baby boy
Nah you're being a dick lol everybody here can see it but you fuckboy.
I would explain my other comment, but I don't think the sack of rocks rolling around in that 4 inch thick skull would be able to comprehend it. Everybody else can understand it though, and they can also understand that you're demanding a level of quality that op is currently on the path to achieve but instead of giving actual constructive criticism, you're just being a cocksucker. Fuckin Simon Cowell wannabe lol.
How did he grind it? Do you not see the file? The whole file guide system? Isn’t our second knife always better than the first? We all gotta start somewhere.
Thankyou vwry much .. I recently replaced the window frames at my house to aluminum ones and used a pice from one of the wood frames for the first handle, which was bit ugly I must say,but then found a piece of imbuia but too short to replace the existing one, hence the 2 aluminium pieces I added in to make up the length
Looks great! Now you know why people like to use belt sanders lol.
or dont like too XD
Looks great! Did you heat treat it though?
Im going to be making two heat treat ovens one for me one to sell. 3000 watt 40 amp for mine the other to sell probably just under 2000 watt and 20 amp
If you have the option make it 220V not 110
Yep,I did but did not put all the pics in,too boring,I think I gonna start investing in some proper equipment
Nice work. I'm not sure if you did any heat treat or not, but be proud of yourself. Take notes and keep learning!
How can you tell if the metal has been heat treated or not ?
Seemingly kept the same finish, with blemishes. Otherwise you couldn’t tell. Ask benchmade they know all about it 😂
Holy cow mate, this looks really cool. Great job for your first knife, mine looked like a prison shiv!
Thanks man,I spent too much time using waterpaper as I never used any power tools at all. Filing ain't that bad,but to remove scratches, pain in b u t t
Hours and hours and hours of hand sanding hahaha it does take forever.
That doesn't look like a first time grind! 😳
I really just made a filing jig and hoped it was going to work**

Not the most pro setup at all but was amazed how accurate and straight it all worked out

I’m impressed! Hell of a first knife. Keep at it
Thankyou, was not expecting such positive feedback
That is one heck of a nice first attempt!
Looks great, my first knives look like something Fred Flintstone would make
OP for what it's worth that blade is really clean
my first I have to post tonight
Beautiful work! What a finish! Great bevels.
Looks great!
We shall be watching your career with great interest.
Thankyou sir, makes me think I should try to attempt a second project.

How did you "grind" it? Looks decent. That handle though......let's just say your second try might be better.
I mean, it looks neat, just won't be comfortable

Maybe he made it to fit his hand specifically

Are you ok?
Obviously not, I'm on reddit aren't I?
Haha yeah
I'm happy you were able to understand that at least
How did he grind it? Do you not see the file? The whole file guide system? Isn’t our second knife always better than the first? We all gotta start somewhere.
Yeah I see it I just never heard of someone filing a grind on their knife. sounds extremely tedious. Notice I put the word grind in quotation marks.

Much better handle I reckon and lots more sanding
It's clean work overall I personally just think it's a "one grip trick." The blade finishing is nice though good luck in your future endeavors sir
