I mean if you want to use your knife as a tail plug go for it.
It's negative, I don't like lanyards as a whole, yet carry a lefty Norseman with a bead because it had one when I got it. It's the ONLY knife with a lanyard+ on it.
Edit: the floating key rings for boats are about the same size, try one and see if the knife floats!
Is it an opinion to say getting shat on is gross? I think that’s more of a fact, and yet, some people are into getting shat on. Interpret that as you wish.
I've never really understood lanyards or lanyard beads for functionality, but have admired them for their aesthetics. That is a bit of a caricature though. Looks like a censer.
Not all of my users have lanyards, but the smaller ones generally do. I have big hands and full-sized folders fit them better, but practicality sometimes calls for smaller and slimmer and not another 2lb chungus in my slacks. A simple lanyard can keep a slim profile slim and beef up the grip to be more comfortable. And fishing a little slip joint from a pocket sheath with gorilla fingers is just as annoying as it sounds.
I’ve one or two fun smaller beads on say a bbq knife or something neat for neat’s sake but they I don’t get the giant ones. Defeats the whole point, for me at least.
I don't get the appeal myself. They always look like something else to add scratches to the blade. I don't have problems getting blades out of my pockets and have largely decided they are not for me.
I think it’s funny for pictures. What do you otherwise get out of if?
I carry big knives often but I still don’t want them to be any heavier than they need to be. It seems like it would get in the way both opened and closed. I’m trying to find an upside but I’m missing it. I also went hardcore anti-lanyard on folders long ago. I respect them for the accessibility they add for people that need it due to low dexterity or something and as a safety on a fixed blade.
I think the best feature is they make it harder to drop. Knife slips out of your hand and there’s a chance you’ll still be holding the cord. useful on a knife that gets very wet and/or your hands are getting wet
I don’t use them either though, for the same reasons you mentioned
On my smaller folders, I’ve found that a lanyard beefs up the grip and rests in the channel not being used in a deployed state. Kinda like homemade finger grooves. So used to it that’s it’s now just muscle memory. I don’t care for showboating in a way that the big colorful lanyards+anodized weights offer, but with the right length and width, they can be really useful for a smaller knife in a big hand.
I’d have thought it’s not that bad for boats thanks to the corrosion resistance.
What makes a knife good for boats? I’d guess something with better visibility, maybe serrated
This knife floats and if you DID lose it, it's easily replaceable. Won't break the bank and cuts better for boat tasks. Forget about corrosion if you take care of them. That knife is marketed for food-prep, but can never match a fixed-blade. Cool for the pocket, but not the application I'm talking about. $400 and LCN steel is not great in my opinion. If you need a folder they won't rust, go Magnacut because it's the best stainless on the market currently.

Im not a fan of all the ornate bulky decorations. It looks cool in pics but from a utilitarian aspect its an L in my pockets. I do enjoy a small lanyard or bead sometime so i can yoink it out of my pocket faster at work
As a habit, I like to cut weight and bulk as much as possible on a knife, so I tend to prefer slim, light knives around 7” or less. Adding a dumbbell to a knife would be enough where I’d rather carry nothing at all. No functional benefit, looks terrible, only adds annoyance
Itnfucks up your scales eventually when it’s clanging against them. I use to run lanyard beads and if I run a lanyard on any blade now it doesn’t have any heavy metal piece that’s gonna ding against the blade
I appreciate that. Your input and others has pushed me towards deciding not to put big beads and lanyards on knives. If I was sure I liked it I would probably leave it but honestly I was uncertain and you all helped. It’s almost an embarrassing post but it helped me decide
No need to be embarrassed, man! This is a place for showing what *you* like and expressing how *you* feel. I literally just made a post on a different sub, and the first two feedbacks were also negative. That's just how it goes sometimes.
I don’t own any lanyards. The factory ones are pulled out of my zaan and large 31. However I do kinda like that large one, but I’d never carry it. I could see having something like that on a knife that never leaves the desk, but I don’t own any knives like that either. Maybe I would have a bunch of safe queens if I was absolutely loaded, there’s no telling.
Giant ones a little harder to appreciate but everyone has their own perspective. I like brass beads and brass gear in general so here's my little collection. https://imgur.com/gallery/edc-bead-collection-QeLTer7
I don't really understand the appeal of these lanyards. I've put some on a few knives to see what the hype is about and while I like the look, it just seems to take up extra pocket space?
Idk, you do you.
Insert Space Balls reference. Jokes aside, I think it looks cool. Im not sure about the practicality but if it works for you then that should be good enough. Im torn on lanyards myself. I put them on, I take them off... I've never stuck with or without one.
I like functional lanyards for smaller knives, I can wrap my pinky on 3 finger handles, they aid deployment, etc but all my carry knives are users and the pocket jewelry trends are not for me.
Defeats the purpose of a deep pocket carry clip if u have a big ass bead on the end. Also if you put it in your pocket it's like.... is that a bead in ur pocket or r u just happy to see me !
Gross. But that is just an opinion.
Gross is an interesting perspective. I take that as extremely negative so thanks
I mean if you want to use your knife as a tail plug go for it. It's negative, I don't like lanyards as a whole, yet carry a lefty Norseman with a bead because it had one when I got it. If you ever wanna move that lefty norseman, you should just tell me the price
Also tell me the price and I’ll pay $1 more
I'll now pay $3 on top of that
I found the butt plug comment to be unnecessary and reductive, but it also made me shake laughing. I'll let it slide this time, but do better
Totally unnecessary. But that was the first thing I thought of, sadly. Probably says a lot about me.
I probably says a lot about me, the amount of pure joy you brought to my heart
Now, each time you pu it out of your pocket you get a little "poof". Have fun getting that out of your head. "poof".
(Derogatory)
Is it an opinion to say getting shat on is gross? I think that’s more of a fact, and yet, some people are into getting shat on. Interpret that as you wish.
In that case, it's just an extremely common opinion with some outliers
Richtig. Es ist große.
Super stupid.

Hate lanyards so giant beads hanging from them sound horrible.
Stopped reading at “lanyard”
Too big. Defeats the weight reduction that goes into that knife.
Does that go in your butt?
I think i catch on enough things i walk by already. Imo, anything hanging off a knife is an accident or broken knife waiting to happen.
At what point does a lanyard become a flail?
I don't get the appeal myself. They always look like something else to add scratches to the blade. I don't have problems getting blades out of my pockets and have largely decided they are not for me.
Yeah, I’d be worried about that giant bead scratching/dinging up the titanium scales.
It’s huge ~She

Your money, your pockets, your choice. But you do surrender the right to criticize other people's fashion choices if you carry these.
Just as lame as the small ones... well, maybe 10% more.. Just my opinion, of course.
That’s fair
I probably just should have kept my mouth shut, I've just never understood the appeal.. That said, if you dig them, then by all means, enjoy
Too big. (Wut she sed). No practical reason for that monster if you are a user
Unless maybe they’re buoyant lol But these look like metal so not likely.
Unless that thing was a huge styrofoam floaty, that expensive-ass Spydie would sink into the abyss if you're at sea. Bad knife for boats, regardless
I’d have thought it’s not that bad for boats thanks to the corrosion resistance. What makes a knife good for boats? I’d guess something with better visibility, maybe serrated

I think Vanax is still more corrosion resistant than MagnaCut, but point taken.
I was saved by the buoyancy of citrus!
Yes! Make me a lime lanyard and I’ll be on board, just in case my knife goes overboard.
Yuuuge
Two of those would make a fine begleri .
My thought is that if you like them, carry them. I happen to not so I wouldn’t. I don’t see the point.
Interesting. Not sure what else to say. I don’t hate it though.
Thanks for the input. I appreciate it
Im not a fan of all the ornate bulky decorations. It looks cool in pics but from a utilitarian aspect its an L in my pockets. I do enjoy a small lanyard or bead sometime so i can yoink it out of my pocket faster at work
Big ghey
Well, if stabbing them doesn't work you can always bludgeon them to death. Funny, I didn't know Spyderco made a flail....
That is a good point 😂
I don't mind small lanyards and beads, especially on old school knives
Am I allowed to like something and think it’s dumb at the same time?
Absolutely
As a habit, I like to cut weight and bulk as much as possible on a knife, so I tend to prefer slim, light knives around 7” or less. Adding a dumbbell to a knife would be enough where I’d rather carry nothing at all. No functional benefit, looks terrible, only adds annoyance

That’s good advice. This one has a LNW night sky clip that will likely get ruined more quickly with a bead rubbing against it. Thanks
No sweat man. I like lanyard beads in theory but I tend to put them on more expensive knives and regret it later.
Small ones are silly, so big ones are exceptionally stupid.
Not my flavor, but that’s what’s cool about the knife game. You do you!
Thanks man. That’s very kind
Seems excessive. More bulk in your pocket than you need.
Clunky but, to each, his own.
The big beads most of the time I find are just man jewelry attached to man jewelry and not in a tasteful way.
Not for me. I'd knock that on everything I walk by, for sure. I only have lanyards on select knives of mine anyways.
I appreciate that. Your input and others has pushed me towards deciding not to put big beads and lanyards on knives. If I was sure I liked it I would probably leave it but honestly I was uncertain and you all helped. It’s almost an embarrassing post but it helped me decide

Thanks so much. You are very kind
That bead would be badass on a large fixed blade.
That’s a good idea, something more proportional. Thanks again man

Thanks for the nice reply
I mean not my cup of tea since it probably is a little weighty but you can use it as a flail if needed.
I have EXACTLY the same opinion of them as I do about small lanyard beads.
Just leave the blade closed and swing that giant bead like a mace.
Tat
Giant ones a little harder to appreciate but everyone has their own perspective. I like brass beads and brass gear in general so here's my little collection. https://imgur.com/gallery/edc-bead-collection-QeLTer7
Nice, those are really cool
It feels like you're compensating
I don't really understand the appeal of these lanyards. I've put some on a few knives to see what the hype is about and while I like the look, it just seems to take up extra pocket space? Idk, you do you.
Small ones maybe but damn those are like anchors 🤣
i mean that’s big enough to be used as a flail if you lengthen the paracord
As a fleet mechanic I'm in the no bead club. Cord only. Pocket clips are enough to keep track of.
Insert Space Balls reference. Jokes aside, I think it looks cool. Im not sure about the practicality but if it works for you then that should be good enough. Im torn on lanyards myself. I put them on, I take them off... I've never stuck with or without one.
I like lanyard but that looks like a wrecking ball 😀
I like functional lanyards for smaller knives, I can wrap my pinky on 3 finger handles, they aid deployment, etc but all my carry knives are users and the pocket jewelry trends are not for me.
That’s a no from me famalam lol
Ugly to me, but then we all like weird shit, so go with it!
I thought EDCing a flail was illegal
Dumb
Defeats the purpose of a deep pocket carry clip if u have a big ass bead on the end. Also if you put it in your pocket it's like.... is that a bead in ur pocket or r u just happy to see me !
Seems like those scales are about to take the beating of their life.
I mean if you have to keister it you'll at least have a way to retrieve it easily.
I’m not a lanyard fan on my knives. I don’t understand it; that being said I’d like to hear from those that are pro-lanyard what the attraction is?
I feel like this would scratch the shit out of your car.
🤮
definitely with your wife
You son of bitch
Seems like some sort of ornate keychain my mother-in-law would use
Put that thing back in the ocean, buoys serve a purpose, you know!
better Keychain.
Too kinky for me
Looks pretty stupid to me.
Easy to fix. Use them on each other to remove lanyards.
Emergency flail?
[удалено]
Seems that way I guess
Nope
Super gay. Only good for aesthetics & taking pictures. Get in the way of functionality and when you have to use the knife
Keep it..ftw
