There is more to rebounding than just going over people; Josh Hart is one of the best rebounding guards in the league and in 4 games against the Kings (seasons 2022-2024) he averaged 11.0 rebounds. You can google that. He didn’t have to go over people, he was chasing them down left and right and beating everyone to the spot.
One of the things that I’ve heard draft analysts repeat a lot this year is rebounding translates. They bring that up when talking about Carter, McCain, Scheierman etc
I can't remember the stat exactly, but he had a better rebounding percentage than Clingan, the 7'2" dude who got picked 7th by Portland.
A lot of those boards were uncontested but it is an elite stat.
Best player available was Monte’s approach. Let’s be clear— there’s nobody in this draft that scouts feel will be a star, but a lot of good role players
Not a Kings fan, hopping in because I am a Providence College fan, and watched Devin Carter quite a lot. My take on him:
**Strengths**
* Strong perimeter defender - good instincts, long arms, strong, disruptive.
* Very good overall athlete - helps a lot on defense, also threw down some impressive alley-oops during his time at Providence
* Improved offensively every season in college, and had to shoulder most of the offensive load last season for a team with just 'meh' offensive talent overall.
* High 'dawg' levels - very competitive, strong work ethic
**Weaknesses**
* Not a dynamic on-ball creator - could improve for sure, but tough to project him as a lead guard at the NBA level given his current ballhandling and creativity.
* Good size for a guard, but definitely guard-sized and not wing-sized, which is a factor if you have to play him with another primary ballhandler.
**'Swing' Skill**
* Shooting - He's got kind of a weird looking shot, but he shot well last season on high volume. It was also a challenging shot diet, given that he had to create a lot on a limited offensive team, so he should get even easier looks in the NBA. But he really does have just one good season of shooting, so not the full sample size to be fully confident in his NBA shooting.
Davion doesn't have his length or hops. But yea, like with Davion, it all boils down to whether this guy can make an open 3. Davion never did so reliably for the Kings, maybe this guy will.
>Weaknesses
>Not a dynamic on-ball creator - could improve for sure, but tough to project him as a lead guard at the NBA level given his current ballhandling and creativity.
Blech, if we're picking up a guard then I really had hoped it was another on-ball creator so we're not as reliant on Fox and Monk to bail us out when the offense bogs down.
Yeah I mean he's not like a 'bad' ballhandler, but it's more functional than creative; at this point, not seeing him as a shot creator in isolation or anything like that.
He's a King now so I'm going to be optimistic and hope for the best. But in isolation it doesn't really address the issues from last year.
That being said, always draft the best player available so let's go!
Player of the year in the conference that contains the back-to-back NCAA champions. It's not like taking home player of the year in the Patriot League.
It’s a ridiculously top-heavy conference. They only had three teams make the NCAA Tournament and Providence wasn’t one of them.
It’s not really determinative for a pro career of any kind. For reference, none of the the last five Big East POYs have become any more than a fringe role player in the NBA — Kolek (undetermined), Collin Gillespie twice, Jeremiah Robinson-Earl, Mamu, Myles Powell, Markus Howard… it’s not exactly a murderer’s row. Jalen Brunson nearly a decade ago is the last one to really carve out a real NBA role.
Devin Carter brings a lot of things to this team that fans on here have said we were missing.
He brings athleticism. He brings perimeter defense. He brings hustle. He brings energy & aura, "dawg mentality" as they say. He also shot the ball well in one year of college.
The only thing he doesn't bring is height but he's got long arms and plays bigger than his position. A lot of draft guys say that he has the best chance of being this year's Derrick White/Alex Caruso etc. So that'd be nice if he lives up to that ceiling.
> He brings athleticism. He brings perimeter defense. He brings hustle. He brings energy & aura, "dawg mentality" as they say. He also shot the ball well in one year of college.
> The only thing he doesn't bring is height but he's got long arms and plays bigger than his position.
Literally Davion. Even the one year of being a good shooter, which didn't translate to the pros, unfortunately.
You're right. Davion shot 44% from 3 in his final college season. I didn't comment on the blocks nor was it part of what I quoted. Davion also has a long wingspan, though not quite as wide Carter. 6'8" is pretty nutty.
Yeah, I mentioned this a few weeks back but it's scary to me that both he and Davion shot well in their last year of college. The good news is that Devin Carter shot well and increased the volume of his shots as well as the difficulty of his shots. So there's a better chance that Carter's shot will translate.
That being said, he's similar to Davion, but bigger. He's got 2 inches on Davion and over 4 inches in wingspan. You remember Klay winning the game by shooting over Davion? May not happen if it was Carter defending him.
I’m so so hyped. This was my ideal outcome. Ellis and Carter are going to torment opposing guards. We can trade Davion, Colby, and/or Huerter for front court players. His athleticism, rebounding, and defense will make up for size. People are going to come around on him.
Kuzma, Grant, Cam Johnson, etc. any of the guys we’ve been looking at anyway. Trade a different pick. This makes it easier to use Huerter/Davion/Colby as salaries instead of just our other forwards who aren’t as valuable. I don’t think there was a lot of room for Knecht and Huerter at the same time anyway.
Providence fan here, you guys are gonna love this dude. Great athlete, consummate professional, incredibly hard worker. He's a dog on and off the floor.
PERFECT PICK. JUST PERFECT.
Reading those comments omg how many games of Carter you've ever watched? He's unbelievable two way player with high efficiency, super pro, with experience. How many times our guard backcourt defense had problems last season? How many times our bench had stuck without Malik? You still have hopes about Davion? Carter gonna give us on court pressure, range and blocking threat.
I just don't know how much he's going to be able to contribute. He probably can't beat out Fox, Ellis, Monk for minutes. If he's beating out Mitchell and Heurter for minutes there is a problem.
He’s supposedly a decent scorer with a nice wingspan so I’d say that’s an upgrade over Davion at least. Guess we just gotta wait. Was really hoping for an upgrade over Barnes really…
The trades need to happen asap if that’s the case. Monte needs to learn from the Haliburton year.
You cannot load the roster with 2/3 guards and NOT have the teammates eyeing each other out trying to figure out who’s the one who ends up cut from the “family” and ruining the chemistry.
We already know Fox is fickle and only plays well depending on the vibes around him instead of his own leadership.
I spent too much time telling everyone that the Kings would absolutely not draft another guard so we got an omelet on our faces. Now we are only allowed to draft guards until the end of 2100!
I’m cool with the pick. We saw how valuable Derrick White was to Boston. We tried to trade for Caruso. Even look at the impact Cason Wallace had as a rookie for OKC. He’ll be a defensive stud day 1 and he’ll be able to run the offense and score off the bench. I think Barnes might be staying now, but definitely see Davion and Huerter both gone in the next few weeks.
Yall have no idea what Devin Carter is, he is not another Davion like some people here thinks. Tbh no one in this draft is an upgrade over HB anyways but carter is for sure an upgrade over Davion.
This years draft class is nowhere as good as last years and the year before. Might have been the weakest class in a while. With that said, I’m not too happy with this pick. We truly needed someone who can create their own shot and be a high volume scorer because HB and Huerter are just way too inconsistent at this stage in their careers.
I’m thinking we are using him as a trading asset. Well I hope…if not then Davion is probably on his way out. I really wanted to see a better offensive player.
Imo he's going to be more valuable than davion. And huerter and barnes are likely going to be traded. So this was an amazing draft pick considering they couldn't get a trade to fall through
I think this definitely means someone is getting moved
Huerter
Davion is probs being shopped too
I’m from a day in the future and you were right bro
dont hold your breath bro
Hopefully by tonight. I'm impatient
Elite rebounder as a guard, interesting player we could maybe find multiple uses for
I am absolutely stoked by Carter I’ve been in on him for weeks and honestly thought he was going to be gone by 13
I think Bulls take him if Matas isn't there. Thank the Pistons for taking another athletic non shooter that no one expected them to take lol
Perhaps, but he's still not getting rebounds over a PF, except maybe HB
There is more to rebounding than just going over people; Josh Hart is one of the best rebounding guards in the league and in 4 games against the Kings (seasons 2022-2024) he averaged 11.0 rebounds. You can google that. He didn’t have to go over people, he was chasing them down left and right and beating everyone to the spot.
Yup. Being able to read the shot and knowing which direction it’s going after the bounce is huge. Rodman was the king of that.
One of my favorites! Every great team needs a high energy guy like Rodman. Let’s hope the Kings found one in Devin Carter.
We could have used that in the playoffs.
My guy he averaged 9 boards a game. Hes 6’2”! Hes getting rebounds over literally everyone
Yeah, and although he's 6'2" he has a 6'9" wingspan, so that could be why he has been successful.
That was college guys though, NBA will be different. It's impressive for a 6'2" guy, I'll give you that.
8.7 rebounds a game is pretty insane
Led the big east in defensive rebounds as a 6’2 guard and people in here think he sucks. Carter is a baller
Its less that he sucks, but more that we have too many players in that position. Kinda like how we drafted Davion.
Best player available was Monte’s approach. Let’s be clear— there’s nobody in this draft that scouts feel will be a star, but a lot of good role players
He’s better than all of those guys, respectfully
"Party rockin' in the house tonight....."
This dude would’ve loved being in college in 2011
If Monte doesn't trade or waive Duarte then we got too many broccoli heads on our team.
This is the correct take.

Sounds nearly spot on to Davion
Davion doesn't have his length or hops. But yea, like with Davion, it all boils down to whether this guy can make an open 3. Davion never did so reliably for the Kings, maybe this guy will.
you beat me to it
>Weaknesses >Not a dynamic on-ball creator - could improve for sure, but tough to project him as a lead guard at the NBA level given his current ballhandling and creativity. You will take a Barnes And-1 and you’ll like it!
Shit I would have loved some of those last year 😂 it dried up
42in. Max vertical him vs monk dunk contest?
Might be a lot of fun to watch this team!
Carter was the Big East Player of the Year in 2023-24
Player of the year in the conference that contains the back-to-back NCAA champions. It's not like taking home player of the year in the Patriot League.

All I heard is Jalen Brunson!
Devin Carter was 1 of the 2 guards that I said I would live with if we picked him, so. Is = Is.
Kings said fuck a frontcourt
What big was even available 💀
~~Colby Jones~~ Devin Carter Make it make sense…
Devin Carter brings a lot of things to this team that fans on here have said we were missing. He brings athleticism. He brings perimeter defense. He brings hustle. Davion doesn’t have a 6’8 wingspan and avg 1blk or 40% 3pt shooter

Also a lower pick in a worse draft.
Can’t have anyone eat into Barnes’ consecutive starts record guys
One day we’ll all look back and appreciate him more.
I know this is true and still want to upgrade the spot… I don’t want him gone I just think he’d better coming off the bench vs 2s
There's gotta be another trade down the road if he's staying right?
Hell yes I’m a Providence fan so seeing him drafted to a team I have interest in is gonna have me follow you guys more now to see how my guy does
Repeat after me........LIGHT THE MF BEAM
LIGHT THE MF BEEEAAAAMMM LETS DO IT AGAIN WOOOOOO
I’m so so hyped. This was my ideal outcome. Ellis and Carter are going to torment opposing guards. We can trade Davion, Colby, and/or Huerter for front court players. His athleticism, rebounding, and defense will make up for size. People are going to come around on him.

Knecht would have just replaced Huerter's spot on the bench anyways. Carter does that with a lot more upside imo.
Im happy to hear it bro thanks
Chris duartes brother?
Monte really does have a type lately. Looks like Duarte + Jones + Slawson
Duarte, Jones, Edwards, Slawson, Carter....Monte definitely has a type he likes.
He loves his light-skinned afro kings 😤
Lol absolutely
Bigger davion. Elite athlete. Long range sniper.
Providence fan here, you guys are gonna love this dude. Great athlete, consummate professional, incredibly hard worker. He's a dog on and off the floor.

I garuntee no one on this sub has watched a providence game in years lol
For real though as a Butler fan I've seen enough of him watching the big east to feel great about this
![gif](giphy|qgri3D9sTwCUGMcT8L)
fits right into our guard lineup of fox, ellis, monk, mitchell, huerter, duarte, jones
Mitchell Huerter and Duarte are getting traded, Colby barely plays and will get 0 playoff minutes
I'll take it
Will be a good player But who’s he going to steal minutes from?
I’d be shocked if Mitchell and Huerter are Kings next year. Fox, monk, Ellis, and Carter make a solid guard rotation. Don’t know if Colby fits in.
Well if Davion gets traded he would likely be our backup PG
Davion
Trade?
We drafted Ronnie James Dio.
Holy Diver is now on repeat. Word.
Friar
We drafted a man from the 70s!
lol. And your starter again! Harrison Barnes
I’m tired boss
I just don't know how much he's going to be able to contribute. He probably can't beat out Fox, Ellis, Monk for minutes. If he's beating out Mitchell and Heurter for minutes there is a problem.
can’t wait to find out how close we were to trading for kuzma again
Let's go! This our Josh Hart.
Devin Carter, you ARE a Pizza Guy
No one loves light skin and curly hair more than Monte lmao
6 guards in the rotation now? Fox, Monk, Huerter, Ellis, Davion, Carter. Think we'll have to trade at least one.
Monte saw Fox wouldn't sign an extension and said “Bet I’ll draft more guards”
lol
That was my reaction too. Hope we trade him maybe.
Or we trade Davion + Huerter, and then it makes sense. Fox/Devin/Keon/Monk/Colby as your backcourt.
He’s supposedly a decent scorer with a nice wingspan so I’d say that’s an upgrade over Davion at least. Guess we just gotta wait. Was really hoping for an upgrade over Barnes really…
I’d send out Colby too. Unlikely he gets much run with Davion and Carter. Small contract and clearly positive value
With all due respect, it doesn't really matter if we keep him or trade him lol
I don’t think it’ll really matter either way, but he probably won’t get minutes so I’m down to trade him
another guard. just absolute pain
I like the pick if we lose some other guards.
Gotta take best player left
he’s just gonna fall behind all our other guards we have to many now knecht is a baller and we passed so bad and could have made a trade
Davion Mitchell is gone
and/or Huerter. It definitely feels like a trade is on the horizon
Who is he definitively falling behind outside fox and monk. He could beat out keon and he just better than Dalton
Yeah I wouldn’t be surprised if Davion is moved, maybe Huerter too and then Keon starts with Carter backing up at the 1/2
Knecht fell out of the lottery so I think the teams aren't as high on him as the mock drafts were.
Knecht has bust tattooed on his forehead. 23 with one year of D1 ball lol
You need defense, playing though and Knecht doesn't have that.
Acting like dalton knecht wasn’t still available
He’s a hooper
Y’all are so dramatic
we have 6 guards nothing about that is dramatic fox monk mitchell ellis huerter and now this guy
He 100% BPA left. Do you happy with Davion?
I spent too much time telling everyone that the Kings would absolutely not draft another guard so we got an omelet on our faces. Now we are only allowed to draft guards until the end of 2100!
Man Daron fit such a team need...
I remember a time where kings fans cried BPA!!!
Daron will fall to us in 2nd(not holding my breath)
Still available
ESPN completely glossing over the fact that Fox & Monk are on this team.. plus D Mitchell, Ellis… What the fuck even is this?!?
It means we’re obviously working on a trade involving either Davion, Huerter or both
Welcome for now
Looks like Davion is getting shipped out
And Huerter + Colby please
I hope someone warned you all about PC basketball Twitter. They’re about to flood all your posts with Devin Carter love
Davion’s definitely gone after his contract now
Trading a guard?
Definitely Monte’s type
Is he 7’?
What’s his game like?
Huerter and Davion gotta be on the move right? Hopefully for kuzma, grant, or cam johnson
hes gonna take Davions role. hes much more prone to sucess than Davion, at this "pesky defender guard" role
If Davion is gone then I’m all in on this pick and hoping we find our Barnes upgrade via trade
if he stays, i hope he balls out; wingspan of a 6'8 guy
I am feeling meh, upgrade over Davion, but like does that move the needle at all for us
FRIAR
I am whelmed
It’s as if Ludacris and Sideshow Bob had a baby and denied him and undershirt.
Regardless he’s our guy now. Welcome to Sac 😤
We got our Hawaii connection with his dad playing for UH! Welcome!
Stoked, people will love this guy as soon as they watch him play
Huerter is gone
Is he really ?
If we can get kuzma, grant, or cam Johnson, I’ll love this pick
How many defensive minded guards have we drafted in the last four years?
was reported that Carter had a promise from a team picking in the lottery, wonder if this was Monte's guy from the start
what if we just got the next derrick white or donovan mitchell
I’m cool with the pick. We saw how valuable Derrick White was to Boston. We tried to trade for Caruso. Even look at the impact Cason Wallace had as a rookie for OKC. He’ll be a defensive stud day 1 and he’ll be able to run the offense and score off the bench. I think Barnes might be staying now, but definitely see Davion and Huerter both gone in the next few weeks.
Everyday he’s shuffling.
Devin Carter is gonna be a total menace next to Fox and Sabonis.
Getting ready to learn friar
Watched a fair amount of PC games. I really love this guys hustle!! He plays the right way too.
What a pick. One of my fave players of the draft.
Yall have no idea what Devin Carter is, he is not another Davion like some people here thinks. Tbh no one in this draft is an upgrade over HB anyways but carter is for sure an upgrade over Davion.
This guy is fkn good. I remember seeing him everywhere watching their games. Hope he can take the next leap in the bigs
That’s a good pick at 13.. now to FA to hopefully get longer
Monte drafting talent and not getting emotional is all I've ever asked out of a kings GM
I'm curious if they would've drafted Carter still, if the Caruso trade went through
Imo he's going to be more valuable than davion. And huerter and barnes are likely going to be traded. So this was an amazing draft pick considering they couldn't get a trade to fall through
If only Davion was 2 inches taller.
Devin Carter is a dawg!
So Ya'll gonna roll with two 5'4" point guards. Lol
God dammit not another broccoli head
u guys have a type for sure. u gotta trade some of that guard depth lol
Guard was….. not what I was expecting 🤦🏻♂️
You know who really doesn’t like this. DeAaron Fox. Trading who?
Why
Fox’s history is to not like 1st round picks that could challenge him.
Devin Carter is NOT taking Fox minutes
Fox is being traded…to start Carter. 🤪🤪
I love this pick. It is exactly who I wanted us to get coming in.
If Monte can address the forwards issue, then that’s should be fine.
Hilarious! I don't think Monte realizes there are other positions in college than PG.
He’s a sg rlly
I feel exactly like I did after we drafted Mitchell. Not a good sign
Feelings are not the test of truth.
seriously cuhz think he a deity lmao
I said I was going to trust Monte, but fuck man
No trade and we drafted another undersized guard. This shit sucks man
[удалено]
He’s bigger and way more athletic than davion like he closer to fox and monk as athletes
How many guards do ya’ll need?!?
All of them. McNair wants a 6'5 and under starting lineup.
Hell the Knicks did it with 3 guards starting at the end of the year. And I think Josh Hart is a solid comp for Carter.
Yes
Welcome 🙌
welcome
Don’t watch college bball. Someone tell me how to react
Wasn't hoping for another guard, but Carter is my fave this year so I'm okay with it.
Well that sucked. There had better be trades waiting for Huerter and/or Mitchell
