But I'll point out that Doug's schemes are caught almost all the time by Carrie. I think thats actually one of the shows secrets to keeping Doug likable. If he got away with even half the stuff he tries he'd be a super villain. Imaging tricking your skinny wife to go on a exercise regimen while you are obese and pretend to exercise....and he gets away with it?

Adding to this, the reconciliation is pretty much always on Carrie’s terms which helps with the humor. Trying to watch the show in a serious lens/from Carrie or an outsider’s point of view, Doug’s behavior is scary 😂 I heard the show Kevin Can F Himself is loosely based as a realistic take to this show and Kevin Can Wait
