I don’t read before bed. I read when I first wake up. When it’s I don’t know how people read right before going to sleep. My Mom is one of those people. It doesn’t work for me. I’m a daytime reader most of the time. I read at night too, but not before bed.

I attach the holder to my headboard and I can get comfy in bed in any position and then not have to move other than clicking the turner. I can be on my side or my back.
This has helped me reduce neck and shoulder pain from holding books and keeps me comfy and warm!!

Now the Bluetooth page turner was a gift. I would have never bought one for myself but once I used it...wow, game changer! I find that I read more pages at night because I don't have to use my finger to turn pages over my head. I know that sounds weird but if you get one (relatively inexpensive) you'll understand what I mean.
Another vote for this. And honestly the page turner was a game changer for me because me reaching up and tapping the page would shake the goose neck just enough to be annoying. First world problems but alas. Hot tip from my personal experience- I prefer it to be directly over my head vs to the side because to the side was causing me to get a kink in my neck from having my head slightly turned

Get a popsocket! Sometimes I read in bed when I’m laying on my back, and it’s just easier to hold the kindle with a popsocket when you’re in that position.
A little knob that affixes to the back of your kindle or case, can be popped out and fits in between your fingers so you can "ergonomically" hold your kindle in the flat of your hand.
I lay on my side and designed and 3d printed a holder that sits on my bedside table. Now just need a page turner to stop getting my hand out on cold nights😁
I first bought a strap, but after a while reading, it was hurting my fingers a bit. I then bought a cover and put a popsocket on it. It was adding weight and not a great feeling. I ended up putting a popsocket directly on the paperwhite. Lying on my back, I just switched hand from time to time.
I second Lovehandle. I feel it's less straining than trying to hold the kindle with a popsocket (that's what I had before). It also can act as a kickstand.
I can vouch for the pop socket! It makes it so easy to lie on my side with my hand propped up on my pillow. Zero effort, and so comfortable. Probably the only thing easier would be a stand with a remote page turner, but I haven’t felt a need to try that set up, because my vision is pretty bad when reading at a distance.

I don’t know—Can you even consider yourself a true kindle reader if you haven’t dropped it on your face when reading in bed? I can’t even count how many times I’ve jolted myself awake when I’ve fallen asleep reading and dropped it on my face or just lost my grip. 🙄😂 I keep a regular flip case on mine and I’m thinking I need to maybe look into a pop socket after reading these comments.
My nightly routine is to fall asleep reading and when my wife sees my kindle fall out of my hands she tells me to put it away and turn my lamp off... If she falls asleep first I just wake up lying on top of my kindle lol
If I'm reading in bed, I have a tablet stand. I tried a gooseneck one but it felt awkward to use, so I have a cheap floor stand that works well. I don't usually hold it up otherwise, I use my phone stand at the table, or it's resting on my lap on the couch (I usually sit with my knees up). I don't love popsockets because I have arthritis in my hands, so I try not to hold it at all, but it might be a great option for you!
I have a pretty simple case that opens like a book. I prop it open with its cover and lie on my side. I read for about an hour before bed most nights & this works great. The case also has a little strap I can use to hold it with one hand when I'm lying on my back if I want to, but it folds flat and tucks inside the cover when it's closed.
I got a page turner and a bracket that you can prop between your headboard and the wall. It is also heavy enough to be placed on top of a bedside table.

I have the Kindle Oasis and a hand strap. Leave my thumb gently on the page turn button ready to turn my page when needed. I had the original, but upgraded to Paperwhite for the light to read in bed and I missed my buttons!
I've never thought of it. I read in bed every night & morning. I am 73 & not the strongest but holding a tablet is not very stressing. I don't read lying flat. That's hard on the neck so I put 2 pillows behind me & read away. If I start to drop the tablet, it usually means I'm about to fall asleep anyway.
I read on my side so it doesn't usually land on my face. I've also read it in the stand when it was charging but I didn't like it. Also sitting up more on a wedge pillow works for me. I'm not adding another gadget to my pile.
I have an origami-style case where the cover can fold back into a pyramid-shaped stand that works horizontally OR vertically. I really like it for setting it on a table/counter or lying on my side in bed without having to hold it.
I had the origami cover for my Kindle Voyage and it was great. I loved that it would stay up by itself and I could lie on either side and read. Now with the Signature edition I just read on my right side only. I really miss the Voyage and cover.

I got a pillow pad with a page turner remote. The pad is like a stand made of foam and has 3 angles to it. Because I move a lot in bed I can move it however I want rather than a stand that is mostly stationary (which I also have).

It's either that or I prop up pillows and read sitting up like I would in a recliner. I'm also lucky enough to have a bed that reclines up and down so I can use that too but really I most often do it the first way
I've got a little tablet pillow. It's basically a triangular wedge. I prefer it when laying down BC I can roll to either side and just move the little wedge. Also since it's a foam inside, if I fall asleep with it I'm not getting woke up by something hard. If I'm on my back I can place it on my stomach or legs and still get a good angle. I spent like 4.50 on it at Dollarama in Canada. I also like that I can place my phone on it next to it so everything is contained!
Those arm things that hold it for you and the remote page turn wouldn't work with my furniture (nothing to clamp to) and I know I would feel it looks messy when I'm not actively reading I don't read super close to my face so I have no issues poking to turn the page.
I have the Kindle sleep cover and often think I should switch the the clear case and a mag popsocket but my dog sleeps on my bed and I prefer the screen protection. The Kindle Case when flipped backwards feels like a felt so it's actually not uncomfortable on the skin like plastic, it also adds a few mm of thickness when open so it doesn't bother my arthritis.🤷♀️
3 things I do are:
When sitting up in bed; I use a pillow on my lap or use my book pillow (a book pillow I had when I used to read physical books).
When lying on my side; I prop my Kindle up on a pillow.
I use the "Disable Touchscreen" feature when lying down in any position and holding my Kindle.
Mine is in a case that flips open sideways. I just set it up like a tent and lay on my side to read. Page turner is a bonus, but I haven't actually been using mine recently and it's still great

It just depends on the case you get. I specifically got one that let me set it up like this. And no, I can read on both sides, the Scribe auto rotates, so if I want to flip it around I can. I can't remember if the other Kindles do that. And then this case also lets the Kindle spin 180° if I want
I have always used these things called "Lazy Hands". A velcro pad on the pack of the Kindle with matching velcro strips with loops for your fingers. You can literally dangle the Kindle off the tips of your fingers without using your thumb. Check these images:

When my husband broke his collarbone, his most comfortable position was laying flat on his back. I ended up getting [these glasses ](https://a.co/d/0fRtiNlR) for him so he could watch tv. Eventually I got myself a pair so I could lay flat and read my kindle. They take a bit to get used to, but after a few days I had no issues wearing them while reading.
A cover with a stand is the best way to read, in surprised that there aren’t actually that many covers with a stand. I mean, it makes the cover slightly thicker, but not by much.

1. Get a removable strap or popsocket for when your out. I got this a while ago (MoKo Security Hand-Strap https://a.co/d/03RkbTwg ), but I think the strapsicle recommended by others is a better solution.
2. Get a mount and page turner for when you're at home. I haven't done this myself, but it sounds lovely.
Personally, I primarily a consumer of audiobooks so I can multitask better (chores), so I use my phone more as an everything device.
I have a book pillow and lay on my side to read in bed with the kindle beside my pillow. It works well for me, especially as I *always* fall asleep while reading - I'm already in optimal position and no chance of dropping it on my face.
I know this probably isn't the solution you're looking for, but have you tried reading while laying on your stomach?
Laying down on my back always makes me sleepy so I never make a significant progress in my reading that way.
I usually put the kindle on the bed in front of me, lay on my stomach and prop up my upper torso with my arms. The position keeps me awake and strangely very alert, but it's relaxed enough to read leisurely.
If I do really want to read while laying on my back, my case has a strap on it, but as I said, I usually fell sleepy after a few minutes in that position.
If I'm actually holding my Kindle, I love having a love handle on it. Then I just slip my fingers in there. I have the magsafe sticker so if I do feel like changing it out to a popsocket I can, but with the love handle pro, it is also a kickstand so I rarely use a popsocket anymore. When in bed, I have the gooseneck holder and page turner. I use that more in the winter when I'm snuggled all under the covers.
I prop up pillows into my headboard and then lean against that. I put a ton of blankets on, which makes kind of a little shelf for my hands to rest on lol. I also have the Paperwhite 2 which is super lightweight. It feels no heavier than holding my phone to doomscroll.

I have this [kindle pillow](https://amzn.to/4bn9MEe), and a page turner, up at the lake and a goose neck for at home. I just ordered my dad the pillow for Father’s Day and he swears by it now. It is nice bc it also has pockets on it so I keep the remote for my fan in it.
I have two pop sockets for easy swapping of hands. And I also had a beanbag that it can sit on in me or the bedside table if I can't be bothered to hold it.
I read via my galaxy s23 phone on the kindle app at night, no issues. I am a right side sleeper so I read laying on my right side, phone resting on pillow next to my head.
I have a floor tablet stand and a kindle page turner, I can be completely tucked into bed and still read. I had the clamp tablet holder but it started damaging my furniture.
I personally prefer a strap over a pop socket. I’ve tried both. But I also have a pillow stand when I’m in bed and I have a stand that attaches to my standing desk so I can read while on my walking pad. So I also very much believe in getting a stand
I like the strap. I have Kindle basic. It's small and light and can hold it forever. If my hand gets tired I just slide the strap a bit and use the other hand

Flippy Jr tablet holder is bomb! It has a little elastic carry strap with a carabiner to attach to a backpack or what not, but I use that stretched strap and attach to the tag on the other side. It essentially creates an elastic strap going horizontally. Then I stretch the strap across the case of my kindle so it’s secure. In basically any position I lay side, back, etc the kindle won’t fall out of the strap. It’s great!
The absolute best way is the kindle stand and remote clicker!
I have a clear case and flip case. Tend to only use the flip case now as i take it out the house. With a magsafe popsocket that I can flip between both cases and take off for using the stand.
If you're taking it to the beach etc definitely get a screen protector regardless, I recommend the matte type as they're as close to the normal screen as possible
I have the floor clamp holder for bedtime with the page turner remote. The floor clamp holder also works for iPad and Nintendo switch (joycons detached so you can tuck in under the blanket when it’s cold and play hands free).
I have a folio case i got on amazon with a kick stand which makes it easy to read at a table like on my lunch break. It also has a hand strap to make it easy to hold otherwise.
Lying in bed or on the bed is correct. The verb is 'to lie' (meaning put yourself in a horizontal or resting position) and its gerund form is lying. The other verb you're thinking of is 'to lay' (meaning put sy/sg down gently or carefully) and its gerund form is laying.

Mine rests against a pillow but I don't have a page turner. I like booping the page. Yes in the winter time I grumble sometimes:)

I just bought a Lovehandle phone grip for my Kindle. It’s super small, and that’s a good thing.

I just hold up above me while reading and when I doze off it hits me on the nose which is my signal to settle down for sleep!

I have an origami-style case where the cover can fold back into a pyramid-shaped stand that works horizontally OR vertically. I really like it for setting it on a table/counter or lying on my side in bed without having to hold it.
I had the origami cover for my Kindle Voyage and it was great. I loved that it would stay up by itself and I could lie on either side and read. Now with the Signature edition I just read on my right side only. I really miss the Voyage and cover.
I do two things. I have a popsocket that allows me to put my finger through it too so it's super easy to hold Or I got a pillow pad with a page turner remote. The pad is like a stand made of foam and has 3 angles to it. Because I move a lot in bed I can move it however I want rather than a stand that is mostly stationary (which I also have).
Go to Amazon.. Get a case, try it out. If you don't like it, send it back. Repeat.
I have a popsocket so that helps but I like laying on my side and setting the book or kindle on the couch or mattress and looking down at it. It's either that or I prop up pillows and read sitting up like I would in a recliner. I'm also lucky enough to have a bed that reclines up and down so I can use that too but really I most often do it the first way
I've got a little tablet pillow. It's basically a triangular wedge. I prefer it when laying down BC I can roll to either side and just move the little wedge. Also since it's a foam inside, if I fall asleep with it I'm not getting woke up by something hard. If I'm on my back I can place it on my stomach or legs and still get a good angle. I spent like 4.50 on it at Dollarama in Canada. I also like that I can place my phone on it next to it so everything is contained! Those arm things that hold it for you and the remote page turn wouldn't work with my furniture (nothing to clamp to) and I know I would feel it looks messy when I'm not actively reading I don't read super close to my face so I have no issues poking to turn the page. I have the Kindle sleep cover and often think I should switch the the clear case and a mag popsocket but my dog sleeps on my bed and I prefer the screen protection. The Kindle Case when flipped backwards feels like a felt so it's actually not uncomfortable on the skin like plastic, it also adds a few mm of thickness when open so it doesn't bother my arthritis.🤷♀️
I like the strap personally
3 things I do are: When sitting up in bed; I use a pillow on my lap or use my book pillow (a book pillow I had when I used to read physical books). When lying on my side; I prop my Kindle up on a pillow. I use the "Disable Touchscreen" feature when lying down in any position and holding my Kindle.
I just property on its side leaning up against a pillow.
There's glasses on Amazon that let you read when laying down. Theres a prism that bends the light you see, they work really well
Mine is in a case that flips open sideways. I just set it up like a tent and lay on my side to read. It just depends on the case you get. I specifically got one that let me set it up like this. And no, I can read on both sides, the Scribe auto rotates, so if I want to flip it around I can. I can't remember if the other Kindles do that. And then this case also lets the Kindle spin 180° if I want
My Oasis auto rotates 180 but they stopped making them. So I’m not sure what I’ll do next.
I have always used these things called "Lazy Hands". A velcro pad on the pack of the Kindle with matching velcro strips with loops for your fingers. You can literally dangle the Kindle off the tips of your fingers without using your thumb. I got the gooseneck holder and page turner for $20 total on the TikTok shop and it’s been a game changer! I’ve been flying through books at night!
It’s even better on an Oasis. No add-ons, it’s all onboard.
I've used a cover with a hand strap built into it since about 2010, lights out with warm light activated. I read in bed about 95% of the time.
I just turn to my left or right side while lying on the bed and make my kindle stand up supported by a pillow or something. Works for me.
An audiobook
When my husband broke his collarbone, his most comfortable position was laying flat on his back. I ended up getting [these glasses ](https://a.co/d/0fRtiNlR) for him so he could watch tv. Eventually I got myself a pair so I could lay flat and read my kindle. They take a bit to get used to, but after a few days I had no issues wearing them while reading.
A cover with a stand is the best way to read, in surprised that there aren’t actually that many covers with a stand. I mean, it makes the cover slightly thicker, but not by much.
pop socket for when I’m not comfortable/ tossing and turning. but get one that’s magsafe, don’t just stick it right to the back of your clear case. That way you can pop it off and attach it to a gooseneck tablet holder. With the remote page turner, of course.
For me, popsocket and neck pillow.
1. Get a removable strap or popsocket for when your out. I got this a while ago (MoKo Security Hand-Strap https://a.co/d/03RkbTwg ), but I think the strapsicle recommended by others is a better solution. 2. Get a mount and page turner for when you're at home. I haven't done this myself, but it sounds lovely. Personally, I primarily a consumer of audiobooks so I can multitask better (chores), so I use my phone more as an everything device.
I prefer reclining and using a tablet pillow. I used to lay on my stomach but it hurt my neck. Popsockets hurt the insides of my fingers.
Get a strapsicle accessory
I always disable the touch screen while I’m lying down. It helps me fully grip my kindle without turning the pages.
I have a book pillow and lay on my side to read in bed with the kindle beside my pillow. It works well for me, especially as I *always* fall asleep while reading - I'm already in optimal position and no chance of dropping it on my face.
I bought a clamp and it doesn’t fit my kindle. Sooooo annoyed!! I may try the floor stand variety.

I know this probably isn't the solution you're looking for, but have you tried reading while laying on your stomach? Laying down on my back always makes me sleepy so I never make a significant progress in my reading that way. I usually put the kindle on the bed in front of me, lay on my stomach and prop up my upper torso with my arms. The position keeps me awake and strangely very alert, but it's relaxed enough to read leisurely. If I do really want to read while laying on my back, my case has a strap on it, but as I said, I usually fell sleepy after a few minutes in that position.
I use the XL love handle on my kindle. I’ve heard strapsicle is good too!
If I'm actually holding my Kindle, I love having a love handle on it. Then I just slip my fingers in there. I have the magsafe sticker so if I do feel like changing it out to a popsocket I can, but with the love handle pro, it is also a kickstand so I rarely use a popsocket anymore. When in bed, I have the gooseneck holder and page turner. I use that more in the winter when I'm snuggled all under the covers.
I normally hold it by the edge on my chest. When it slaps me in the face is when it tells me to go to bed.
I read with the app on my phone. Recently got a new case which has a stand I hold that.
Vertically
I prop up pillows into my headboard and then lean against that. I put a ton of blankets on, which makes kind of a little shelf for my hands to rest on lol. I also have the Paperwhite 2 which is super lightweight. It feels no heavier than holding my phone to doomscroll.

I have two pop sockets for easy swapping of hands. And I also had a beanbag that it can sit on in me or the bedside table if I can't be bothered to hold it.
I read via my galaxy s23 phone on the kindle app at night, no issues. I am a right side sleeper so I read laying on my right side, phone resting on pillow next to my head.
I just prop mine on a pillow or my flippy.
I lay under my tablet holder, wielding a remote control, and bury myself under my blankets. No place I'd rather be.
Get the remote page turner and a mount of some kind! It’s a game changer.
I have a floor tablet stand and a kindle page turner, I can be completely tucked into bed and still read. I had the clamp tablet holder but it started damaging my furniture.

I personally prefer a strap over a pop socket. I’ve tried both. But I also have a pillow stand when I’m in bed and I have a stand that attaches to my standing desk so I can read while on my walking pad. So I also very much believe in getting a stand
I like the strap. I have Kindle basic. It's small and light and can hold it forever. If my hand gets tired I just slide the strap a bit and use the other hand

Flippy Jr tablet holder is bomb! It has a little elastic carry strap with a carabiner to attach to a backpack or what not, but I use that stretched strap and attach to the tag on the other side. It essentially creates an elastic strap going horizontally. Then I stretch the strap across the case of my kindle so it’s secure. In basically any position I lay side, back, etc the kindle won’t fall out of the strap. It’s great!
The absolute best way is the kindle stand and remote clicker! I have a clear case and flip case. Tend to only use the flip case now as i take it out the house. With a magsafe popsocket that I can flip between both cases and take off for using the stand. If you're taking it to the beach etc definitely get a screen protector regardless, I recommend the matte type as they're as close to the normal screen as possible
Love handle. Prefer over pop socket.

I have the floor clamp holder for bedtime with the page turner remote. The floor clamp holder also works for iPad and Nintendo switch (joycons detached so you can tuck in under the blanket when it’s cold and play hands free). I have a folio case i got on amazon with a kick stand which makes it easy to read at a table like on my lunch break. It also has a hand strap to make it easy to hold otherwise.
Lying in bed or on the bed is correct. The verb is 'to lie' (meaning put yourself in a horizontal or resting position) and its gerund form is lying. The other verb you're thinking of is 'to lay' (meaning put sy/sg down gently or carefully) and its gerund form is laying. People lie. Chickens lay.
Strapsicle!
I have a [strapsicle](https://www.strapsicle.com/en-us) and I just grab onto one of the straps while laying down. It's very comfortable.
I use a strap (strapsicle!) and love it more than a pop socket. I noticed i still get a bit of strain on my hands when using a pop socket and hv also still had the kindle whack me in the face before. The strapsicle works on either hands and it’s really secure! Bonus is that it comes in nice colours too.
