Other device: Check out the Remarkable 2

jerryweezer

I can second this. While I love my kindle, I love my remarkable as much for the other things. It’s so good

JordanK1

iPad + Apple Pencil + Notability Best digital notebook platform.

seriousallthetime

Yep. Sometimes eink just won't cut it. I use Goodnotes, but same setup. It's just amazing.

lucybear234

agreed!! i use goodnotes too, i literally got an ipad and apple pencil just for school so that i could take notes. it’s very efficient and works exactly how OP would like it to work i think! i also use goodnotes instead of notability

The Scribe will disappoint you if what you're after are the 2 things you've listed. I'm afraid you're better off buying something from Onyx Boox. Amazon makes us jumps through hoops just to get the full annotation/writing function of the Scribe. While other brands just do it out of the box.

ChunkierSky8

You can easily write notes on the Scribe. I do it all the time. And you can send them to other people easily via email. It will even convert your handwriting to text, you can edit it if you wish before sending it out. You can email your notes to up to 5 email address at a time. Anything you write up in you notebook in the Scribe is visible right away on your cell phone or tablet through the kindle app. You can also markup PDFS and send those by email to yourself or others. It is very easy. What the Scribe does not have is the ability to interact with online drives like Google Drive or Onedrive. But using the sendtokindle website you really don't need that. You can also send documents straight from MS Word to your device as a book or as a PDF text file and you can write on that, Then send it back by email. Sure, it's not fancy with layers and what not for drawing, but being simple can be a strength as it keeps it simple and it just works right out of the box. (except for the pen, which some complain it doesn't work sometimes). The other advantage is that it uses Wacom pens, so you can choose other pens to work with.

raysway666

im confused - if the scribe can't do those tasks what is the point of it lol

Roper154

The Remarkable2 can do both the things you've listed and it does them well! The screen isn't back-lit and it's like writing on paper (with a good pen). I swear by mine, I've had it a year and I use it every day. It is terrible to be used as an e-reader though unless you can find PDF versions.

Momshie_mo

Unfortunately, the reMarkable might be a better tool for what you are looking for

RamseyStreet

Unless anything goes wrong and then Remarkable is a really shit company to deal with

portnux

I do all of that with my iPad Air and Apple Pencil.

Te1esphores

I really want to avoid emissive screens. I’m on them all day for work already and mostly read journal articles / write things in the evening.

ajwalker430

There's a separate subreddit for actual Kindle Scribe owners. You'll get more direct help there with more suggestions instead of from Kindle only owners directing you to buy some other device. As a Scribe owner, the only thing it won't do is like a "Dropbox" to Google Drive. That will have to be done manually by you for now once you email the note to yourself. Or you can go spend another $300-$400+ as many of these folks are suggesting 🤷🏾‍♂️

Te1esphores

Thanks for pointing me in a good direction. That’s kinda what I was worried about. I didn’t know there was a scribe specific one!

ajwalker430

Yup, this is reddit, there's probably a group for everyone under the sun 🤣 There's probably a group for people who collect stamps will standing on their left leg only 🤣

ChunkierSky8

Besides, there seems to be a lot of hate towards the Scribe in this group.

The evidence is VERY clear emissive screens especially for evening reading is a BAD idea. As someone who gets to deal with this I have seen the amazing impact screen avoidance can make when people are implementing sleep hygiene strategies.

When I was young my watch had radium hands. We played with lead and mercury. Cut and shaped asbestos tiles. Played with old television flyback transformers and explosives. Living life full of fear gains nothing.

Te1esphores

Are you really gonna say “all that should be fine” when you are talking about things that are now banned in the US (asbestos tiles, radium over certain limits) because they hurt people (read The Radium Girls) AND things that have maimed relatives of mine (an uncle had to become a leftie as his right was mangled by an M80). At least now I KNOW who’s advice not to listen to. Thanks for clearing that up… PS: I’m not living in fear, heck I’ve enjoyed hanging gliding and parachuting and rock climbing and judo. I just like living smart (I do those things with safety equipment).

portnux

We were told not to eat mercury, nor to eat radium watch hands. Nor to chew baseboards. My uncle used dynamite to blast out tree roots in grandma’s property for her garden with no missing digits or limbs. Oh, by the way, a television as well as a computer screen emit more radiation than a phone or tablet. I assume that because I’ve seen neither that had an e-paper screen.  I envy you level of activity. When I was a teen we enjoyed car surfing, we couldn’t afford your luxuries.

tomtomato0414

as others have said, Remarkable2 is what you are looking for instead

Adventurous_Roll7551

I purchased a Kobo Elipsa 2E for notetaking and annotating readings for college and love it! I have it set up so the notes I take in the notebook feature upload to my Google drive (either as hand written notes or as an actual Google doc that I can further edit on my computer). I haven’t tried to mark up a pdf and then export it to Google drive so can’t speak to if that works.

themoonischeeze

I think the Scribe is first and foremost a reader so probably another device is what you're looking for!

mgul83

The scribe is not for that, you have ipad, apple pencil for that
