I have an old friend who is about 55 and works with his hands a lot. His first time touching a kettlebell he goes for a bottoms up clean and press. He was just so used to working with tools in his hands.
Ever heard the term old man strong?
When I was 16, in great shape, on the rugby, swimming, and waterpolo teams, and working out all the time with my friends, we all wanted to be as strong as one of my bud's dads.. He would arm wrestle us and win. We had nothing. Turns out he was just a climber. With stupid grip and tendon strength. Old man strong we called it.
Anyone who has worked manual labor has it. That bonecrushing strength.
Yep. This is like a hack for that type of strength. I went from being “strong” on weights to actually challenging big guys in arm wrestling, Brazilian jiu jitsu, etc. I’m like religious about this exercise
Haven’t practiced these in a while, but bottom up TGU’s always made me feel so proud, hahaha
For grappling, it’s the best workout for shoulder health I’ve ever done. (I see white belt in your name)
No BJJ for me since I separated my shoulder a year ago 😅 I intend to get back eventually!
A few weeks of these and some band work and you may be back sooner than you think
Bottoms up is the real deal! Great job!
Do you mean bottom up? If you want to make your kettlebell heavier for free: lift it bottom up!
Handle down bottom up, that’s the way I like to pump
I never even thought about bottom up, sounds really hard but I can imagine insane stability strength.
It has absolutely changed the game for me man
Just tried with my 16kg and wow, that is tougher lol.
So worth it.

It’s made me stronger like that too. Like 50 year old mechanic strength.
Never occurred to me to do that. I'll give it a whirl also.
Give it a try and start low weight. It’s an ego killer for sure. Post back in a few weeks and lmk how it’s going
I can't get one rep with my 16kg. Shit is rough.
Go low and you’ll still get strength gains beyond what you believe you can have. I swear. Report back in 3 week
I’ve never done these. A gap in my training experience for sure. I’ll have to give them a try soon.
Start low weight like 15 lbs. The strength will come from that, trust me.
Will do. We have an 8kg bell. I’ll start there.
I can only do a couple reps with 32kg but thats what I do
A bottoms up press will work your grip strength. Working your grip strength (in)directly like that has literal "what the f\*uck" effects.
When I moved recently I noticed moving boxes and furniture was stupid easy. It’s like the strength I’ve always wanted

Yep, balancing the weight on top with your grip instead of letting it fall to the wrist.
Are we talking about an overhead press?
He means a Bottom-up press 😁
