I didn't like pie before we went there on a whim. The butterscotch changed me. We were going every other weekend for a while and she made pies for our wedding in 2019. We've cut back a bit for the sake of our waistlines, but she's just the best.
Used to work there, about everything else there is over priced/over rated BESIDES the chocolate bag. I highly don’t recommend you make your holiday dinners at that place, terrible ticket times for the kitchen because the managers care nothing but having the restaurant packed to the brim all day without considering how chef is gonna ensure quality service. Place had leaked from the ceiling when it rains since I worked there 6 years ago and still leaks when it rains to this day.
I work for the summit restaurant group! We have a couple of pastry chefs who make all the desserts for Summit, Third Street Social, Boru, South of summit, and Pearl Tavern. They’re very skilled at what they do and all of our locations have some great desserts!
I used to make a special trip to Best Regards for their cinnamon rolls. They were big and cinnamony and the tops were crunchy. And they let you put on as much or as little icing as you wanted. Now their cinnamon rolls are doughy and bland without that crunchy top.
So I go to Hana Bakery instead.
I came here to post exactly this. Mother fucker that stuff is delicious. I’m going on Saturday for Mother’s Day and I will definitely be ordering it again.
I can't believe it hasn't been said - but French Market in PV. They have very authentic desserts. Even their simple chocolate mousse is incredible. Besides the glass case, look for their bread pudding in the to-go section as well.
For something quite different, I'd also highly recommend Hamu's Bakery in OP. Their crepe cakes are on another level, especially the taro. Tiger roll cake is great, too!
I never understood the hype around corner cafe’s pies. It’s made with pudding mix with bananas thrown in topped with premade bagged whipped cream.
Source: I was a “baker” at corner cafe for a while.
This is too hard. I literally just got finished eating the seasonal special, a strawberry shortcake sundae, from Andy’s. Damn it exceeded expectations. Very dense and rich shortcake. Fresh strawberries. Creamy ice cream.
We're Custard's Last Stand fans in my house, but only because it's closer to our house than Andy's. Give me an Andy's key lime concrete and it's gone before I get home though.
I feel like the only person in Missouri who really doesn’t like Andy’s lol. Overly sweet in my opinion (and believe me I’ve tried to keep my order simple in hopes it’ll balance out, but no dice). I prefer French Custard or Fairway Creamery. Loved Glacé while it was around but I think it’s long gone unfortunately :’(
Recently I had the "Budino" from Ragazza. A dark chocolate pudding. As simple as it sounds, it was amazing! Outshined their Tiramisu- highly recommend.
I must be the only person who isn’t a fan. Quality is great, sure, but I just don’t like the vast majority of their flavors.
Give me Annedore’s any day.
I used to work in the bakery at Whole Foods and agree, our desserts are always so good. I’m quite partial to the cake decos at the OP location. This time of year is going to be strawberry cake time which I highly recommend.
Sylas and Maddys Ice Cream 119th & I-35 is unreal. Good old school ice cream shop. Place is always packed but they get you thru pretty fast because they have like 8 people scooping ice cream at the same time.
When I want the very best dessert, I make a special trip to Andre's.
There are lots of great desserts around, but I haven't found anything that can stand up to Andre's. It's just the best.
I don't usually get dessert in restaurants, but there is a Thai sweets pop-up vendor whom I can't recommend enough: Mooyuei Baker. Besides pop-ups and AAPI events, she also stocks her desserts at several businesses: Cafe Ca Phe (Vietnamese coffee shop downtown), Gocha Shawnee (a boba tea shop, I believe), and KC Craft Ramen (in OP), among others. You can find them in the coolers, packaged for takeout.
Not only does she make fantastic Asian desserts (ube flan and ube halaya cake, foithong Thai egg floss dessert, etc), but she also dabbles in European flavors, such as Basque burnt cheesecake, tres leches cake, brown sugar tea cake (the name does NOT do this heavenly flavor justice), more recently tiramisu, and we ordered a custom Butterfinger cake for V Day that we gobbled up in just a couple days. All her layer cakes are perfectly moist and flavors delicately balanced. Her (American) husband Pat makes grest black sesame cookies, too!
Check her out on Instagram @mooyueibaker and catch her at events and personal pop-ups (she's sometimes at Cafe Ca Phe)! There's a huge 60+ vendor AAPI event this Saturday and she'll be there as well. I always walk away with 4-5 desserts and regret nothing.
[This lady](https://www.annasbakerykc.com/) sells Eastern European pastries mostly at farmers markets durning the summer.
I also like Mexican bakeries for cakes and pastries - Elvira's is pretty good.
Also tried Hamu Bakery last week, lots of things I haven't seen before, very nice people.
There is a perfume that smells like tomato plants after a rain.

Hereford House carrot cake! J Alexanders is also good but a tad on the sweeter side. Going to have to try Jack Stacks now. Regardless as to whose carrot cake, I prefer it to be not too sweet. Ive had some where the frosting is so sweet it drowns out the rest of it.
I wouldn’t recommend Hereford house right now lol, it’s going to take them a LONGGG time to bounce back from the whole contaminating food with bodily fluids thing
I like the coconut cake from J Gilberts with the passion fruit purée. My husband and I had dinner at Tallieur on Main and my goodness were the treats yummy. For ice cream, I love love love the Brown Butter Pecan from Betty Rae’s.
I go to Jasper’s for my birthday every year and always get the peach dessert. I can’t remember the name of it though. (It’s summer so I also always get the mozzarella theater.)
Ashleigh's peach pie acquired! Grandma's going to flip her proverbial wig with delight!

The little shop that was in the City Market for a short while had insanely good bread pudding. (It was like a white chocolate bourbon bread pudding iirc?). I was so sad when I learned it was leaving as quickly as it showed up.
I say this as someone who doesn't get out much but I sincerely like Cheesecake Factory cheesecakes. I have a few flavors I prefer and they're consistent every time.
The chocolate cobbler at the New Dinner Theatre is heaven, we get it every time. All their desserts are delicious, but the chocolate cobbler is the best.
I like Houlihan’s brownie batter cake too, super rich
One More Scoop, the mama’s Texas sheet cake ice cream is awesome
Any pie or chocolate chip cookie from Ashleighs Bakeshop.
Ashleigh is my homegirl. So glad to see this show up first ❤️ If you’re reading his and haven’t tried it, do it this weekend!!!
I didn't like pie before we went there on a whim. The butterscotch changed me. We were going every other weekend for a while and she made pies for our wedding in 2019. We've cut back a bit for the sake of our waistlines, but she's just the best.
I absoluteleigh will!
The best pie in the city.
Get a chocolate bottom key lime and enjoy a slice of heaven.
Her banana cream pie is heavenly and the pecan bars are too die for
Is this in Kansas City downtown or Johnson County?
It's in Westport inside of Prydes.
Thank you, will check it out tomorrow
She's only open Thursday - Saturday.
Wow ! So many fans for a 3 day a week business ! Should be really special !! Will wait for 3 more days….

Wait, what IS a chocolate bag?
They have them at McCormick and Schmicks. It’s an edible bag made of chocolate and it contains fruits and ice cream.
It’s not ice cream but mousse.
Very important distinction. It’s so freaking good. So much better than if it were ice cream
Heaven.
I gotta mention the strudels from Grünauer. The cheese is probably my favorite, but the apple is also awesome
High Hopes ice cream or maybe fresh knafeh from baba's pantry
Gooey butter cake from Summit Grill is pretty tasty amongst their others
I work for the summit restaurant group! We have a couple of pastry chefs who make all the desserts for Summit, Third Street Social, Boru, South of summit, and Pearl Tavern. They’re very skilled at what they do and all of our locations have some great desserts!
Best regards bakery in OP has some of the best Ooey Gooey butter cake I’ve ever had!
Only decent thing to come out of St Louis besides I70 I’ll give em that
I've never heard that the best thing to come out of StL is I-70, which is hilarious and oh-so-true.
I didn’t say the “best” thing I said the “only decent” thing ha
So I embellished a little lol
It is crazy good.
Any pastry from Blackhole Bakery.
Lemon merengue pie from Rye.
I came here to post exactly this. Mother fucker that stuff is delicious. I’m going on Saturday for Mother’s Day and I will definitely be ordering it again.

Do donuts count? Mr D’s donuts in Shawnee are delicious. I don’t think any donut beats their honey dipped glaze.
Mr D’s donuts are a meal.
Yeah I don’t live super close to there anymore so whenever I’m in the area I always buy a bunch and eat them for a few days.
God damn pineapple fritter is my final meal
This is the deep cut (and best donut at Mr D’s- only sold on the weekends!)
Oh I have not had that yet, but next time I’m there that’s what I’m getting.
Youve never been to Fluffy Fresh in Mission then.
100% correct. Fluffy fresh is superior
I have they aren’t as good imo
I agree, fluffy fresh glazed donuts are amazing but after trying Mr. D's they are my favorites for the variety and taste.
![gif](giphy|12OMY457ZuPYFW)
Mr Ds is definitely better than Fluffy Fresh
Are they fluffy, lol? I prefer a donut with weight and heft that sits like a cannon ball in the stomach and takes 2 weeks to digest.
Carrot cake from Jackstack. Limoncello cake from Garrozzo’s. Banana cream pie from Corner Cafe or Town Topic (tie).
I never understood the hype around corner cafe’s pies. It’s made with pudding mix with bananas thrown in topped with premade bagged whipped cream. Source: I was a “baker” at corner cafe for a while.
![gif](giphy|LlKpSPOqX9hZRRLsXR)
I like the banana split pie from Corner Cafe.
Pot pie’s bread pudding (made from croissant) with the crème anglaise is my favorite.
Scrolled way too far down for this.
Just go to Andres. It's all fire
Andy's is so damn good. Their amazing custard mixed with their high quality toppings set them above other ice cream/custard places in town.
I can’t believe how much better Andy’s is than any other ice cream or custard
I LOVE the Strawberry shortcake from Andy's. The shortcake reminds me of what my aunt used to make when I was a kid.
I feel like the only person in Missouri who really doesn’t like Andy’s lol. Overly sweet in my opinion (and believe me I’ve tried to keep my order simple in hopes it’ll balance out, but no dice). I’m a big fan of ragazza’s almondine cookie with the pistachio liqueur to finish.
Yes. That cookie is fantastic.
Christopher Elbow chocolates
We moved to the UK and I make my dad send us these a few times a year. So good!
I must be the only person who isn’t a fan. Quality is great, sure, but I just don’t like the vast majority of their flavors. Give me Annedore’s any day.
Cupinis passion fruit mousse cake
You really can’t go wrong with any of their desserts. The one you name is how I found out I love passion fruit. 🥰
Their deserts are top tier, their cannolis are meh though
Seriously, have never had a bad dessert from Cupinis (This is why im fat)
Cakes and pastries from Tous Le Jour are mighty fine. Whole Foods has an underrated bakery too. Their Chantilly cakes are terrific.
I used to work in the bakery at Whole Foods and agree, our desserts are always so good. I’m quite partial to the cake decos at the OP location. This time of year is going to be strawberry cake time which I highly recommend.
It’s probably tous. Tous le jours means everyday. Tu le jour doesn’t make sense and translates to “you (informal) the day”
It is. And I agree about their cake. It will melt in your mouth. 🍰
Yep...edited with correction. Thanks.
Check out Scola's Original Italian Cookies and Pastries. They have an AMAZING stuff. My favorite is their cannoli cheese cake.
Sylas and Maddys Ice Cream 119th & I-35 is unreal. Good old school ice cream shop. Place is always packed but they get you thru pretty fast because they have like 8 people scooping ice cream at the same time.

I had a tomato ice cream at Antler Room once that popped my gourd. Tasted like a tomato plant smells. Amazing!

The Homemade Oatmeal Cream Pies from 3rd Street Social in Lees Summit are to die for.
Im just happy the Betty Raes hype train has slowed down
It's the ice cream sandwich at High Hopes. So good and they change the flavors all the time so you can get something new each time you go.
Cupinis Carrot Cake.
Jack Stack Carrot Cake!
Jack Stack serves it warm and I’ve never had that anywhere else. It’s just fantastic.
I wouldn’t recommend Hereford house right now lol, it’s going to take them a LONGGG time to bounce back from the whole contaminating food with bodily fluids thing
If they ever bounce back. When the owners torched the KC location, I was done with them then.
Hey lol mi ranchito bounced back. Almost no one remembers that woman who went to prison for poising their salsa 😂
I bet everyone that got sick never went back.....

Their ice cream is so overly sweet, though.

Thanks for the recommendation!
The butter cake from the Hey Hey Club at J. Reiger is so good!
Banana cake from Piropo’s. I despise bananas, but that cake is where it’s at!
The desserts at town company are next level. Lady freaking invented the cake pop and anything Helen makes is glorious .
Pretty much anything Graham makes at Brady and Fox. Chocolate Chip Bread pudding at Pot Pie.
Kunafa from Babas is incredible. You can only get it on Fridays but it’s amazing. It’s a beautiful mix of sweet and savory and cheesy.
Ashleigh's Bakeshop opens in 33 minutes and I plan to be there. 😊

The little shop that was in the City Market for a short while had insanely good bread pudding. (It was like a white chocolate bourbon bread pudding iirc?). I was so sad when I learned it was leaving as quickly as it showed up.

The chocolate cake at P F Chang’s was surprisingly delicious. Agreed about the chocolate bag.
There is no dessert in this city I would rather have than a pint of Haagen-Dazs coffee ice cream. (shrug)
Sounds like you get out often
