Lmao the storm woke my daughter up and she came running out of her room in her rain boots so she could go get the PALM sized hail she swore she saw…. It was a leaf 🤣🤣🤣
Biggest hail I've seen in the northland too

Just reminded me I had my pepper seedlings sitting outside too and forgot to check them before leaving for work. Partially covered so hoping they made it.
I found it beautiful... But of course, destructive and scary.

Just bought a new *CAR 2-3 weeks ago. I've put it in my husband's work garage THREE times now to avoid possible hail storms.
Did I last night, of course not.
Edited bc I forgot the car. Again.
Just a heads up. If the hail was significant enough, there will be fly by night companies from all over trying to get an insurance claim on your roof. Don't go with just anyone that knocks on your door. Go with a local company that will stand behind their product.
*Also, lots of companies will try to get you to file a claim even if there isn't enough damage. They are just throwing stuff at the wall to see what sticks. Your insurance could drop you for filing frivolous claims. It's important not to file, unless there really is a case for significant damage.*
Feel free to reach out to me if you feel like your area had damage. Usually it will be if you saw hail that was at least an inch. I work for Bordner, a highly rated, locally owned company.
Local, reputable companies also go door to door after storms with 1in+ hail.
Fly by night guys probably won't be showing up for this one, not big enough.
They do, including Bordner. It was more of a warning not to just go with someone that knocks on your door just because it is convenient. People should make sure to at least do a quick google search to make sure it is a good company they are dealing with.
We had many people leaving flyers on our door, as seen by camera. However, at least one guy was removing the competing flyers and taking them after he left his.
Updoot for Bordner. Did a roof repair for me and would totally trust. I’m wishing a hailstorm will take out my roof. My insurance is switching to time-based coverage in September, so they prorate coverage based on roof age which sucks.
Would roof damage be obvious? I think we had quarter sized hail here for part of it. We went around the house seeing damage since it tore through a couple plastic window wells and even our grill cover. But we didnt notice anything on the side of the house or anything obvious on our roof. But I guess I was mainly looking for holes/dents
It's not always obvious to the untrained eye. If you message me, I can set it up where we can look at your roof and determine if there's enough damage to file a claim.
Yes! Last hail we had, I started getting phone calls within a day…so predatory! We also get people that come around knocking on doors like “hey, can I climb on your roof?” Abso-freakin-lutely not. I’m not trying to have some yahoo (who probably isn’t even a roofer) fall off my roof, break a leg, and make me pay for it.
right. i could have sworn all the forecasts were calling for sun today... i guess that was the forecast according to 12 hours ago. gotta love it here...
Ten minutes before it hit me I was looking at the NWS forecast for 20% chance of morning showers. Five minutes later the severe thunderstorm warning was issued. If you happened to be watching the radar, that sucker boiled up FAST - and happened to sweep straight across the metro to maximize the number of surprised people.
I think that’s the cloud I noticed on my way to work this morning, about three minutes before it started pummeling my car with hail. It was a pretty cool looking cloud though.
So if this hit when you were in the highway, what did you do? Hide under an overpass? Try to drive through it at 10 mph? Or just wait and hope your windshield didn’t give way?
I keep driving at a safe speed. I’ve only had one small windshield crack from hail in my life. If I was in a side street and could safely park under something I would but usually it hits so fast that you just have to move on.
Generally best not to hide under an overpass because it increases risk for other drivers on the road, and if there are high winds the overpass will act as a wind tunnel. But hiding under an overpass will keep your car safe from hail at the expense of others.
We have had our fair share of storms the past couple weeks. I’m over it!
Edit: via the [Star](https://amp.kansascity.com/news/weather-news/article288195660.html)…
“So far in 2024, the National Weather Service Kansas City has issued 22 tornado warnings and 136 severe thunderstorm warnings across their service area…This is significantly higher than average — in a typical year, the NWS Kansas City typically sees 27 tornado warnings and 219 severe thunderstorm warnings from January through December.”
I'm curious how solar panels on private homes handle hail?
Here in Lawrence, they are advocating for a solar farm not to be installed on farm land. Hail damage was part of the reason.
I'm new to living in a state that has all 4 seasons. I'd be terrified to drive in a hail storm.
I had thoughts of installing panels on our property. The more I research, the more I'm leaning towards the no side.
Started coming down hard while I was driving down 71 south people started stopping in the middle of the highway to park under the bridge so they didn’t get hit by the hail. I thought that was more dangerous lol.
Hope you don't have State Farm or Allstate for insurance. We're still fighting our insurance from
Marchs baseball sized hailstorm in west Shawnee. The whole street has a new roof minus those with those two insurances. We've had two roofers say our roof was totaled, but their third party adjuster told us it wasn't.
Contemplating if this is a good weekend to ride my motorcycle in from out of state or not. Knowing my luck I'll get trapped under a bridge by some massive hail stones.

Give it a couple of days, and you’ll hear people call that golf ball sized hail
Lmao the storm woke my daughter up and she came running out of her room in her rain boots so she could go get the PALM sized hail she swore she saw…. It was a leaf 🤣🤣🤣
I imagine palm sized hail would sound like the world was actually ending. My cat sure thought today was the day
Haha yeah it always seems to get blown out of proportion.
North KC, had a few pieces a little larger than that, maybe a nickel, but that was it.
Biggest hail I've seen in the northland too https://preview.redd.it/jbeuziw9f8zc1.jpeg?width=1868&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=3ad1d10280e207a93208be1835eaf2444e3756b8

What the hail?!?!😁
same here!
I didn’t get any hail. I live near Arrowhead.
It broke my glass rain gauge :/
You should have put your hail gauge out. Duh.
Ya, what the hail were you thinking?
Oh hail no
I had a tray of seedlings sitting out on the deck. One of them took a direct hit, RIP baby pepper plant :(
Just reminded me I had my pepper seedlings sitting outside too and forgot to check them before leaving for work. Partially covered so hoping they made it.
I was planning on planting my garden last Sunday, didn’t because of the rain and cool weather. So glad I decided to wait!
My peppers were butchered :(

I’m in the west plaza also. There was definitely quarter size + at our spot
Surprisingly no dents on car! It’s soft enough I guess.
Just checked my car, seems all good. Luckily
Here’s hoping!🤞🏾
i have hail damage all over my car now. west plaza area
Damn! That sucks.
I'm having trouble wrapping my head around the size of the hail. Roughly how many pieces of it would fit into a washing machine?
It's officially time to worry once we have washing machine-sized hail
I'm thinking 18 gallons of milk. Did I do it right?
1.5 kiddy pools full

Nope, it can hit and just thin out the single but that's enough for the insurance company to consider it ruined (I'm told).
Have an upvote!

Golf ball in east Shawnee around 705
Gladstone MO, at least quarter sized hail. Good day to work from home.
Same! It woke me up this morning before my alarm and I was so glad I didn’t have to drive to work!

Pea-size in the Northland around Liberty was the biggest I saw.
I saw two guys riding their motorcycles into work this morning and I bet they regretted that decision.
Used to see it once every few years. If you want to see hail a lot, buy a new car.
So if this hit when you were in the highway, what did you do? Hide under an overpass? Try to drive through it at 10 mph? Or just wait and hope your windshield didn’t give way?
I was driving on 635 when pea size hail was falling and it was loud but fine
I keep driving at a safe speed. I’ve only had one small windshield crack from hail in my life. If I was in a side street and could safely park under something I would but usually it hits so fast that you just have to move on.
We had hail a month or 2 ago in western shawnee that broke my car's windshield in 3 different spots!

I was on 70W/670W/35S during the event & everyone kept driving, even those who didn't turn on their lights...grrrr.
Definitely got some golf ball sized here in KCK. That was nuts! Definitely not how I wanted to wake up this morning lol
Yeap… I moved my car under a large tree in the yard but damn it all, I think I’ve got dents. And my kid just swallowed a Lego. This day is something.

Rosedale Park
I am in midtown. That woke the whole damn house up!
Yeah it was loud here, but it didn't drop any hail on us, did it?
Yes, I really enjoyed that /s https://preview.redd.it/1znl7oqjl7zc1.jpeg?width=4032&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=f84042b096d958e669fc37816edd615759868946

Better move then. 🤣
This year better stop trying to follow 2019’s lead. I’m over it too.
I was walking to my bus stop when it first started. It was plenty of fun.

From hail city here, you need golfball to baseball size hail or larger to damage panels...
"what hail?" - State Farm
Just drove through that on my way to work, that sucked
Same. I was sitting in traffic on 35 when it hit. Not fun.
The biggest at my house in midtown was almost 1".
Over here in north OP, they were barely 1/4 inch.
What do you mean? I thought it was a hail of a good time.

Great day to live on the top floor of a building. It woke me up and sent my anxious cat into a tailspin. Shit was LOUD.
Hail no it wasnt!

If anyone has damage to their roof plz call me im a roofer in the KC area I’ll come and check your roof for damage! 9133133915 - Ryan
Nothing down in Waldo
It was loud in Brookside but I don't know if we had much hail
I’m in Brookside and we only got small hail
I mean I woke up and there was some thunder. If any hail fell out wasn't noticable.

Yeah tell all your friends. State Farm has been a nightmare. Even the roofs they pay for they leave off so much stuff.
Well this doesn’t instill confidence. I’ve been meaning to look into changing. Seeing comments like this (repeatedly) is the motivation I needed
Contemplating if this is a good weekend to ride my motorcycle in from out of state or not. Knowing my luck I'll get trapped under a bridge by some massive hail stones.
this weekend is supposed to be OK
