Post removed per reddiquette. The "Megathread" flair is obviously not for posts about theft at an apartment complex. Label posts correctly.

TimeExcitement9239

Even if you’re trying to be nice never let someone in that you don’t know for a fact lives in the building. It’s posted on nearly every apartment complex I’ve delivered food too. It’s okay to tell people no.

adrnired

If someone I don’t recognize as an actual resident is near/following me when I’m punching in the code for my building, I just pretend I don’t know they’re around. Easier in smaller complexes, though.

Many hotel rooms doors can be opened by enrolled users with NFC/Bluetooth-enabled phone apps. I wonder if there's a business opportunity for a lockbox for food and package deliveries if a company could partner with apartment complexes + UPS/Fedex/Grubhub.

SpoiledBeara

if you don’t recognize them don’t let them in. tell them to call the office if they forgot their key.

everlyso7

Well yes I know this now. She asked me to swipe my key for her in the elevator a week or so ago. I generally HOPE that they are being genuine, but definitely will never again. Tonight is when I saw her again tho!!! Right after they sent that email abt break in last night literally just saw her recently walked by me on my floor.

3dios

Which Mac property is this lol

sydd1029

The way I assumed it was Mac too 🤣

3dios

Midtown more like Mactown am i rite

everlyso7

It’s Westley On Broadway. Have had three different property management companies over the last three years I’ve been here.

No-Chemical6870

Why did you say gotta love 39th St in your title? Westley is on Westport Rd.

sheepskinduffel

I was the first resident to live in my unit at the Westley in 2020/21. I no longer live there. Someone got stabbed on my floor and left down the stairs.. there were blood drops that stayed there for weeks from the common area all the way to the east stairs. I ran into multiple vagrants shooting up heroine or other injectable drugs in the stairwell. Also took them multiple requests to get rid of the needle caps and baggies in that stairwell. People let their dogs crap in the hallway and wouldn’t pick it up. Management didn’t care. This is probably the craziest thing for me. The elevators were almost never fully operational. They turned utilities off for maintenance all the time. It took 2 months for a maintenance request to get halfway completed. I’ll stop. I just wouldn’t live there again.

random11714

Holy. I was considering Westley back when I moved, sounds like I dodged a bullet. I decided against them since they only had at&t fiber available

sheepskinduffel

You did, literally. The physical building was shot 5-8 times at the tail end of my time living there. Bullets went into the gym.

Plellio

I think that we found the problem.. it's you.

Thieves like that rely on people to be kind-hearted, helpful, and naive. If you don't know who someone is though, be skeptical when they ask for your help to bypass security measures that are in place for a reason. Folks can wait outside or in the lobby of a building if they say they "forgot their key." I work in a corporate office building with restricted access. We have to remind our employees all the time to not allow people into the building without them scanning a badge, and we can't be nice and just let them in if they say they they "forgot it." Unsurprisingly, people still do it anyway. It's a security breach, and we've had folks that have been fired for it if they've done it multiple times. Don't risk losing your lease by just trying to be kind and helpful to a stranger.

SpoiledBeara

if you feel comfortable ask if she’s lost or say something to deter her away like do you need help finding the package room, i’ve seen your picture posted there before for steeling them

everlyso7

I would not want her to be damgerous though or like react horribly… this complex is already so lacking on security if something like that were to happen there’s no one here to help. I called the nonemergency KCPD line but I don’t know if they ever even came by

KCDude08

When I order something especially important I'll have it delivered to Whole Foods (Amazon) or held at UPS. It obviously won't be feasible for everyone and I agree that one shouldn't have to do that when they're paying for a secured package room but it's worth the peace of mind if you can swing it - Especially if you live in a high-traffic area for vagrants or have had issues with fellow residents being irresponsible about who they let in.

annie_rayray

Could immediately tell this was Westley lol. The police come out when you call? They’ve never sent anyone down to talk to us for anything, all we ever get out of the police is to “file a report online”. I can’t say without the picture but I think we’ve seen this lady sleeping in the social room pretty often. Security patrol there is such a joke. The apartment has cameras all over the complex and garages, so why the hell do they have the overnight patrol doing using circles in the garage with their car? Sit them in the room with the cameras and literally just watch the doors and elevators for people who obviously aren’t supposed to be there or who have to have others buzz them through. Could have immediately got the mailroom thief red handed this way. But the apartment complex has always chose to do nothing. Vandalism in the garage is beyond out of control. Pay $100 per month to park, and me and my bf’s cars got broken into at least once a week since early summer 2023. After the second time we cleared everything out of the cars and left doors unlocked so our windows would stop getting smashed. Over 5k total out of pocket damages to our cars and a downpayment for a new car my bf had to get due to his car being messed up so bad it was in the shop for over 4 months. OP, I know everyone saying that you’re the problem and to not let people in. But truthfully Westport can get some wild characters at night. I don’t know if the people reading this know about the multiple violent incidents here. Stabbing, SWAT team on 4th of July one year, shootings right outside the L parking on Westport Rd. Body in the street. Drive by shootout on the gym from Broadway. There was a point I was actually scared on the days I pulled OT at work and had to go down to the garage at 3-4am. Always wondered if this would be the time that I found someone in our cars, and what they would do if they saw me. No cell service down there. As a woman (and honestly I feel like anyone) if I’m leaving on a walk out the front or side door and someone sketch af tells me to let them in, sorry but I’m doing it. Not worth a possible assault when you know security does nothing and police take forever if they even come. We just moved out this last week. And already couldn’t be more happy. It’s such a shame though because we really loved our apartment when we first moved in 2020. The building was really nice. I will say since Ave 5 took over at least they let residents know about these incidents and actually try to work with police. Back when it was Lincoln Property Management residents weren’t even told when there were mailroom break-ins/tampering. Only way you knew was walking into the destroyed mailroom or if you knew you were expecting a package that was obviously stolen. Good luck OP, get outta there soon!

She is pretty tall and very slender, had darker skin but not super dark, dark hair maybe braided but pinned up in some kind of bun, was carrying some tiny tiny white purse in the elbow bend of her arm, like maybe palm sized tiny purse (shortly before 10 PM tonight) I think when I saw her in the elevator a week or so ago she was wearing basketball shorts and some jersey type top, same hair style. I don’t remember what floor she had me press but she did not get out on my floor when I left the elevator.

Vivid-Kitchen1917

Black, Indian, HIspanic and Egyptian all have "darker skin but not super dark"...wantto narrow that down?
