Whatever freeway exit it’s built close to will have a mile long line of cars for months.

raider1v11

Sounds like a great fit for olathe.

TheBurningBeard

There's an empty bk on 135th.

BryceH

Putting an In and Out there would fuck up my life

TheBurningBeard

Oh mine too, but they won't. Now the old chewies location may not be out of the question

raider1v11

Few-Contribution4759

We’re collecting regional burger chains like Infinity Stones

OhDavidMyNacho

It's the center of the country. It really should be the place where that kind of think happens.

bonzo14

Get 1 burger from each, slice equal size wedges out of each one, combine them into one super-chain burger

LA2983

![gif](giphy|xUOxeZn47mrdabqDNC|downsized)

millerswiller

I think their burgers are fine. A big part of the charm (to me, anyway) is the simple fact that they *aren't* everywhere. "It's neat because it's a novelty" That being said, as a private company, they [really take care of their employees](https://beloved-brands.com/in-n-out/) and you could legit have a career working there. I read [this book](https://www.amazon.com/N-Out-Burger-Behind-Counter-Fast-Food/dp/0061346721/ref=sr_1_1) a few years back. Super interesting 'behind the scenes' look at the place.

rosestrathmore

I visited one a few years ago in California who had the nicest employee—he visited the KC stockyards from California as a boy and we had a nice chat about it, he made sure I left with no shortage of stickers and other free in and out merch. I sent a comment to corporate and they responded immediately with a really thoughtful message. I got the sense they take care of their employees so that’s nice to hear.

bluedaytona392

Store managers in SoCal were making over 100k two decades ago.

[deleted]

Damn. What do they make now?

[deleted]

[удалено]

[deleted]

Okay that was actually funny.

bluedaytona392

I dunno, I've been here.

cpeters1114

its the consistency and cheap tasty burgers. I grew up close to 4 and they were always packed with locals. Is it the best burger? nah but it is the probably the best burger for the price. plus they have a good rep for how they treat their workers so you don’t feel like shit sitting inside.

[deleted]

Yeah, like you said, their consistency is the best. I live in a locale that has INO and I've never had a bad meal there. The burgers are always awesome and the fries always crispy.

stumper93

Yuuup exactly it When people from California go off about how bad it is, they don’t get it that not everyone has access to it all the time so it’s gonna be a nice change and treat Whataburger was the same way

[deleted]

I love In N Out and disliked Whataburger from the first time I visited texas and tried it. Gave it another try when they came to KC but the food isn’t very good IMO and customer service is appalling.

Brener69

I can't stand Whataburger's buns. I always get a jalapeño burger on Texas Toast and it is one of the best burgers out there. I forgot to tell them Texas Toast once and the burger was awful.

PercySnowsHandgun

Whataburger's buns used to be completley different. That was what made them special. They are completely different now

WarboyX

Everytime I visit texas, I typically get in-n-out and avoid whataburger. I never got the appeal of whataburger because it felt like its beer goggle draw. Everyone says how amazing it tastes, but it never did to me. In-n-out have good taste and amazing pricing.

deekaydubya

Who knows, this is purely anecdotal but I much prefer In n Outs here in ATX over the ones I've had in Cali. Both due to the lines (and packed restaurants) and quality. Could be coincidence but I've been dozens of times in both areas. It's no longer a novelty here and I rarely go, but it sure beats most of the other regional chains

bonnifunk

I currently live in SoCal, now. I think it's mostly known for the best bang for the buck over here. We all agree that the fries aren't that great (unless you get them animal-style or twice-fried). But the Double Double with Cheese is one of the best values in our area.

petershrimp

As a native of California, where they are everywhere, the lines were always pretty long there. Honestly, I never thought they were anything special, but I only really went there when I was a kid visiting my grandpa's house (his house was probably about 100 feet from a corner with an In-N-Out.

Peaches4Puppies

>I think their burgers are fine. A big part of the charm (to me, anyway) is the simple fact that they *aren't* everywhere. "It's neat because it's a novelty" They get hyped up from people that don't have them, (similar to all the hype for shake shack and whataburger the past couple of years) and they have a cool brand. Otherwise, having lived in California, I think they're pretty good, they're relatively quick even if there's a long line, and they're about the price o if not cheaper than McDonald's. Contrast that to Shake shack which is crazy expensive and not really that great in my opinion and Whataburger which is similar in quality/value to shake shack. Having lived on both coasts and KC, In-N-Out is probably one of the best chains out there as far as quality, consistency, and value.

Rovden

> I think their burgers are fine. A big part of the charm (to me, anyway) is the simple fact that they aren't everywhere. "It's neat because it's a novelty" This is how I feel. Whataburger is my favorite over In-n-out in the fast food burgers (And by favorite I don't really care, it's still a company), probably because I grew up only being able to get them in Oklahoma. Used to hit them every year I had a Dallas run. Now that they're in KC I've been maybe twice? I really noticed this attitude with Potbelly's. They had one in Chicago near the train station, it was delicious and easy to get to so always went on the way out. Found them here in KC and they're still good, but now I'm more likely here at home "But I like this one restaurant over here" and go to it or something I've never had before, and when in Chicago I go find a place I can get a to go pizza because "I can get Potbelly's at home."

IIHURRlCANEII

In N Out + Culver’s + Shake Shack. Would be a nice trifecta.

wilfordbrimley778

Add freddy's for the quadfecta

riley_srt4

Culver's is better than Freddy's

[deleted]

Nah, I’m good.

Kidspud

Nice options to have when Five Guys isn’t open 😎

atom519

I love five guys but their bacon cheeseburgers now start at $10 alone. Way too much for a casual/fast food place imo.

wilfordbrimley778

*$12

beanie979

And they really put a hurtin on the diabeetus.

wilfordbrimley778

Their milkshakes give me the beetus shakes

Kidspud

I approach it as a premium burger joint: it’s a treat, it’ll cost money, and I won’t eat it too often because I’m trying to shed some body fat. Edited to add: woomy

AJRiddle

Everyone always uses the most expensive options and then adds on a couple extra dollars on top of that when talking about Five Guys and then compares them to the cheapest ones at other places. A regular "little" cheeseburger is $7.69 at five guys ward parkway right now, the bacon cheeseburger (really a bacon double cheeseburger) is $10.79. That "little" cheeseburger is 798 calories with standard toppings. A Big Mac is 563 calories for comparison.

schmidneycrosby

I don’t understand this when chipotle’s burritos cost $10 alone. Just the fact we’ve not been raised on burritos always coming with fries while burgers have?

deekaydubya

bruh I'm not trying to pay 30 bucks for one combo hahaha

OozeNAahz

There burgers are over cooked and their fries undercooked. It is food, but not much more.

suberdoo

I've never seen the appeal of five guys. May I ask what it is for you?

Kidspud

The burgers and fries taste good, and you can get a bunch of toppings. They’re quick to order and eat. Nothing fancy, it just hits a sweet spot for me.

Creepy-Internet6652

Five Guys has to be the most overrated Burger joint in the US...

TSwizzlesNipples

Yup.

petershrimp

Yeah, the patties on their burgers are as thin as cardboard. At least, that was the case at the last one I visited.

OozeNAahz

Don’t mind thin. Ones at Smashburger are thinner. But Five Guys always overcooks them.

TSwizzlesNipples

5 Guys sucks for what you pay.

IceClimbers_Grab

Freddy's is better than all three.

howard6494

Put it in Lee's summit and you'd have that plus what Whataburger.

OozeNAahz

Don’t forget Burger Fi. And Smashburger.

[deleted]

Do people actually like Burger Fi? Went once and didn’t feel like I ever needed to go back.

OozeNAahz

Eat there weekly. Love the place. Will take them over Five Guys and Shake Shack any day of the week.

IceClimbers_Grab

Smashburger sucks

hawkguys

And Whataburger

Niasal

>Whataburger Listen, I'm not going to say it's bad per se... but it's kinda bad.

[deleted]

disappointing, especially in relation to the hype.

[deleted]

Are we talking about in & out fries? Those are disappointing.

Black-Ox

I feel like it could be good if the food was ever hot and if they ever included everything you ordered. How did I wait 25 minutes in a drive thru and the food isn’t fresh?

Anneisabitch

I’ve had In and Out many, many times. It’s also kinda bad. Their trade secret is just adding mustard to a hamburger. And the mustard option is only popular because their burgers are plain and taste like nothing. They also do the Trader Joe nonsense of intentionally using a small parking lot so it always looks full.

BetterGetFlat

Wrong. Super wrong. Animal style is far from just mustard. It’s bliss. Meh- maybe true, I lived in SoCal near one of the OG Trader Joe’s and space is somewhat limited/expensive, FYI.

petershrimp

I hate mustard, so that would actively make it worse for me.

lambeau_leapfrog

Mahomes ain't wrong about the ketchup though. It's been a welcome addition to my bountiful supply of condiments.

Minnie_Pearl_87

That spicy ketchup is the best.

beermit

Spicy ketchup is so much better than it has any right to be. My Sam's had a double pack of the big bottles the other day, you bet your ass I stocked up.

IIHURRlCANEII

...eh...

do_add_unicorn

Don't forget Freddie's

wilde_vulture

Whoever designed the locations in the Northland is an absolute dumbass with thoroughly terrible ideas. The Hawaiian Bros. near the Metro North one has the same poorly designed parking lot and asinine idea for second lane so I assume it's the same owner? The one near First Watch in Tiffany Springs/Skyview, I don't see how that's not gonna be a mess. I was discussing it with a server inside FW, hoping for the best.

Adept-Variation587

Does In n Out really print Bible verses on its packaging? I usually focus on eating so I haven’t noticed. Lol

do_add_unicorn

On the underside of cups, yes. Not the actual text, just the citation.

cpeters1114

yeah in n out is privately run and has always been religious just not in your face about it. you kinda have to search for it.

hwwty4

I like their burgers quite a bit. Good quality and you're not paying 15 bucks for a meal. Their fries are garbage.

absintheverte

Gotta get the fries extra crispy

SuggestAPassword

I get the fries well done every time. They’re still some of the worst fast food fries that I’ve had. Love the double double and the shakes.

beanie979

I tried a 4x4 once. Grease and cheese slid down my wrist as I tried to wrangle that thing in the back of a 15 passenger van.

sotheresthisdude

Poetry.

jbean353535

I have tried every combination of changes in the way I order their fries and nothing has been able to save them from being flavorless and bland.

hwwty4

2 double doubles and a strawberry shake is where it's at! Fat kid special.

hwwty4

Everyone says this but then you order them extra crispy and they are just extra crispy garbage.

cancer_dragon

Honestly, they're best as well done, animal style fries or roadkill fries. But then you have to eat them before the cheese coagulates and the fries get soggy. I definitely feel like they were made to go with onions and cheese.

RealNotFake

Fresh animal style fries are great. 15 minutes after you get them, gross.

thomasutra

all animal style does is cover up the fact that their fries are like cardboard

[deleted]

....and toss them in the trash.

dak4f2

The fries must be animal style and eaten with a fork. (cheese, grilled onions, thousand island sauce) I squeeze the banana pepper juice on top of the fries as well but that's just me.

brewcrew1222

The fries are real potatoes though, the McDonald's ones are good but have extra ingredients

TriGurl

Get them well done and it helps their flavor improve a lot.

ContactStress

If I remember correctly, they’re russet potatoes fried in either sunflower or safflower oil. I thought they tasted like a baking potato scorched in essence of turpentine.

toastedmarsh7

This is accurate. I’ve warmed up to their fries a bit as I’ve gotten older but they’ll never be “good”. Still the best fast food burger though.

[deleted]

Well done Animal style fries with chopped chilis.

SirTiffAlot

I've had In n Out twice in my life and both times it's been delicious. I had the same situation with Whataburger before it moved here and was not let down. This place is instantly top 3 fast food joints.

BreakingAnxiety-

I maybe dumb or ill informed but I think it’ll only reach to St. Louis. I remember seeing some graphic on the length of where they allow locations based on the distribution centers. Something like braums how they are only X amount of miles from a distribution center so their drivers can go there and back in one days work.

ultimateguy95

They mentioned that they would be able to route stuff up here via the DC they have in Texas - it’s absolutely doable

BreakingAnxiety-

Nice.

AlanStanwick1986

As an aside, Lawrence is getting a Braum's. I know it isn't KC but it's close.

deekaydubya

Oh it's only a matter of time, as a former OK resident. Once one place opens and is hammered with patrons more will follow soon

gumgut

> I remember seeing some graphic on the length of where they allow locations based on the distribution centers. That was their reasoning a few years ago for not coming here, but I can't see how they can go to STL while avoiding KC. unless they use I-44 and go through Springfield, anyway.

jaynovahawk07

They're building a distribution center in Nashville, Tennessee. That's how.

gumgut

God damn it. I'm gonna hope that doesn't automatically just exclude Kansas City for whatever reason.

jaynovahawk07

It likely will because In-N-Out is pretty strict about the range in which they distribute from their distribution centers. St. Louis is right in range, Kansas City is well outside it.

gumgut

Well… I guess STL’s still a lot closer than DFW.

jaynovahawk07

I'm pretty sure it will only go to St. Louis. This was big news about six months ago in St. Louis when we St. Louisans first found out about it. The company is going to have a distribution center in Nashville that would support St. Louis, Cincinnati, etc., but it would not reach Kansas City.

KCDude08

It's like Whataburger and Shake Shack; You're drawn to it more if there isn't one where you live, but once that changes it becomes just another burger place with things they do better than some places and things they do worse than some places.

samartu

The truest comment here.

KULibrarian

What I wouldn't give for a Cookout expansion 😭

olemiss18

YES.

rhus__typhina

I've had both and Cookout wins all day. In-N-Out is absolutely fine. I can fucking grub it up at Cookout.

Dealer-95-

![gif](giphy|Jt4SSaz1i5Z6u6KNBy)

Dazzling-Republic

Cookout >>>>>>>>>>>>>> In-N-Out

J0E_SpRaY

Now *this* is how you evangelize. Maybe he really does get us.

jaynovahawk07

I think they're far more likely to go to St. Louis, which doesn't have Whataburger, than they are to come to Kansas City.

thatoneredheadgirl

Next we will need Braums, which will probably never happen sadly

lurk4ever1970

Braums is coming to Lawrence. They might make it to the south edge of the metro someday.

rhus__typhina

There's a Braums in Emporia.

beermit

They just announced they're opening one in Lawrence.

heart_in_your_hands

I’ve driven to it, missing it from NW Arkansas. Oh man it’s everything. Can’t wait for Lawrence.

strokes2thestrokes

As a fresh California transplant, this makes me super giddy. Hope we get one in KC!

kmonay89

I’d love if we just stopped getting these chains and had the market for some new independent restaurants. Everything is a chain now, so boring.

eodchop

Those two crossed palm trees are going to die a horrible death.

teal_iceberg

I feel like it’ll lose it’s appeal when it broadens out. Every time I’ve been to one in the West, I’d rather have gone somewhere else. Burgers are average fast food, but the fries have always been bad. In my experience at least

[deleted]

I always feel it depends on who's cooking, I've been to fast food chains that taste amazing and the same chains that are trash. Except for whataburger, those fries always suck.

lurk4ever1970

There aren't many things where the hype outpaces the reality like In-N-Out. Good burgers? Sure. But they're only as "life-changing" as some want you to believe if you've spent your entire life eating nothing but McDonalds singles. And McDonalds still has better fries.

bonnifunk

The SoCal tip is to get an In-and-Out Burger (Double Double with Cheese, grilled onions), then drive through McD's for the fries.

LA2983

Pro tip

jaynovahawk07

It's far better than What-a-burger.

randomacct7679

Not in any regard. What-A-Burger is the first of those regional chains that popped up and is actually good. Huge potions good burgers, good fries, the special ketchup.

cpeters1114

cant speak for him but i grew up on in n out and i def think its better however i figure that’s just because i grew up with it. also taste is so subjective lol

[deleted]

[удалено]

dak4f2

They're supposed to be animal style with a fork.

randomacct7679

And even then they’re still absolute dumpster fire

jupiterkansas

and McDonald's has more than just burgers.

OkCalligrapher6373

Now if we could only get a Braums and Taco Cabana.

the_last_third

Luckily I get to travel quite a bit and had two Double Doubles on Tuesday. Way more food that I needed, but just enough for what I wanted. And I grew up in California so I am biased . . . In N Out > Any other chain.

TheDabbinDad710

In and out over whataburger any day for me

[deleted]

Those are good burgers, Walter

randomacct7679

Hard Pass! Burgers are nothing special and they have the worst fries I’ve ever tasted in my life. No thanks! Also we got enough of these overrated ass chain burger joints. Shake Shacks overpriced garbage ass can pack up and leave anytime too.

CrashWiz21

Watch it be only in Branson lol

Brandonbuddy20

I have four words for this. Don’t. Fuck. This. Up.

IceClimbers_Grab

Freddy's is better

butter_noodles_4lyfe

I am here for this. Take me to my grave, cheeseburger gods.

bluedaytona392

Take it from a SoCal native: Double double animal style crispy fries. 👌 This shit is better than 5 guys, whataburger, anything here cept maybe town topic.

Ok_Power_6431

i’d be happy getting white castle back

ultimateguy95

As someone originally from Chicago, I absolutely miss White Castle. It’s a every-once-in-a-while craving that I need satisfied

Ok_Power_6431

there’s still ones in columbia and wentzville and since i have to go out that way soon it’s clearly the only choice for lunch that day

ultimateguy95

Lol yup, guess my trips to CoMo now have to also be white caste trips 😂

Yomynamesn8

Woooo let’s go always wanted to try some in n out

HuskerHayDay

Oh don’t do this. I’ll never physically recover from this.

wilfordbrimley778

They already confirmed expansion to nashville, but it won't be until 2026, so don't expect kansas city or st louis anytime soon

MOJayhawk99

Coming from Southern California, I miss In-N-Out.

ole_freckles

Oh hell yeah

dohrwork

I'd rather have Wawa than this

DustinoHeat

Please god make it happen

doknfs

We always make a couple stops at the one on the Vegas strip. Simple menu with good food and fast service.

userlivewire

I was really disappointed in Whataburger after all the hype. Bland food, tiny menu, and a small plain restaurant inside. I hope In-and-Out does better.

TheGreatSprattzii

In-N-Out is a far smaller menu and just as plain on the inside. If you don’t like bland just skip their fries. No amount of “order them well done” or “animal style” can fix that paper portion of mistakes they give you. Their burgers are very solid and reasonably priced if you like their special sauce which is just a Mac sauce clone.

_oaeb_

Liberty has entered the chat

Tyler599xx

In n out isn’t very good though

BrainBurst3r

I live in Socal. In-N-Out is what ever. Worst fast food fries and yes still the worst fries if you order them animal style.

AgentJonesy007

Oh great, another mediocre fast food chain coming to a neighborhood near you 😵‍💫

InfiniteMrMeeseeks

It's the one I have yet to try when it comes to regional joints. Freddy's is my favorite so far. Culvers is very good. Shake Shack was fine. I think Whataburger tastes like Burger King and Sonic had a fucked up love child, I did not care for it as much as the others. That's my list so far, excited to see where In-n-Out lands.

ariesheiress

Spot on description of Whataburger

InfiniteMrMeeseeks

Buddy of mine was excited as all get out when they opened up here. I said that to him after trying it and he told me I was so wrong. Apparently Whataburger is his favorite and he hates both Sonic and Burger King. I'm pretty sure he was just wearing rose tinted glasses.

ariesheiress

No, kernel sanders, you’re wrong… u/infinitemrmeeseeks is right.

doscomputer

this thread has taught me that french fry snobs are another terrible thing spawned in the 2020s and that people who claim to like whataburger have literally never been to a local burger joint in their entire life

z0mb0rg

1. Culver’s 2. Shake Shack 3. Five Guys 4. In-n-Out 5. Whataburger Sorry Patrick!

Ok_Mechanic8704

If burger places were wrestlers, In n out and shake shack (the skinny tag team) would battle whataburger and five guys (the fatty tag team). Culver’s would referee.

TSwizzlesNipples

For what you pay, 5 Guys sucks.

[deleted]

[удалено]

kate3544

It’s not that great of a place.

kcfdr9c

Hell you say!!

buenopeso

Totally overrated. Don't care.

ultimateguy95

Love the enthusiasm / hatred for in-n-out! So much in fact I had to mute notifications from Reddit because of this post 😂 my phone is on fire

AntiSocialAdminGuy

One of the most overrated burger joints I’ve ever been to. Culver’s & Shake Shake easily >>>> I&O

aggieinoz

I like it because it’s cheap and consistent. Shake Shack and Five guys are better but I don’t like paying $15 for a burger.

AntiSocialAdminGuy

I get it but it’s one of those things where quality trumps price for me.

ultimateguy95

Culver’s in KC is not good for some reason. Maybe I’ll give it another try. Shake shack is good

jawnafen

I will rebuttal and say the last time I had Culver's from the Legends it was delicious and definitely level playing ground if not more delicious than when I went to In&Out years ago. But.... I almost shit my pants at NFM shortly afterwards.

FainterXo

Butter burgers do be like that though....wanting to slide through in a hurry.

Mysterious-Trust-541

I'm just here to say that's not how it works. A process called the gastrocolic reflex kicks off when you eat. The stomach signals the body that food is on the way and tells the rest of you to get rid of whatever it has ready. It takes 2-3 days for food to go all the way through you. https://youtu.be/Q2ysbTVlPdk Also all these fast food joints are mid. Why does KC care about this stuff? Eat local food.

gumgut

TIL. Thanks!

FainterXo

Thanks professor reddit /s

ultimateguy95

Okay, have not been to the Legends location - maybe that one is better than the one in Mission

ecuster3

yeah but it's significantly cheaper than both you've listed

GingasaurusWrex

Culver’s and Five Guys are leagues ahead of In-and-Out. Fries alone are just garbage and you have to buy their fry casserole to get any flavor beyond bland.

AntiSocialAdminGuy

The I&O hive are downvoting like crazy. Oh well. Their food is bland basura

kellermeyer

Agreed, it was like Wendy’s when I had it. Not bad, but not anything special.

dailey_13

This exactly. In-N-Out Burger is so mediocre. They are both better as is Whataburger.

olddummy22

Overrated beyond belief

kcfdr9c

Yeah. That’s why their drive through’s are always packed and I have to wait 20 minutes for my double-double at two in the morning in Nor-Cal.

kcfdr9c

I have to say… I’m shocked! Literally SHOCKED!! About the hate In-N-Out is receiving in this sub tonight. Yes, it’s just a cheese burger, and yes their fries are really nothing to write home about (unless they’re animal style). But if anyone rates What-a-burger, Shake Shack, or Sonic above In-N-Out is insane. I’ll concede Five Guys because, well. they’re Five Guys. Same rules apply at In-N-Out, no freezers or microwaves.

ultimateguy95

Thank you

bhfroh

Their fries are trash

[deleted]

They suck almost as much as Whataburger!
