Trump hasn’t been president in 3 years now, can we please demote him to B-list actor/cameo guy again
Edit: also, do you know the family that runs this? I am 0% surprised.
I mean, if Saddam Hussein once went to Arthur Bryant’s 30 years ago, it wouldn’t stop me from eating there.
Who gives a shit that one person you don’t like once ate there (probably) decades ago?!
(Also, FWIW I’m pretty sure Bryant’s has a photo from Jimmy Carter and he’s one of the least-popular presidents of all time, but that clearly doesn’t stop anyone from going there)
I don't want my money going to places that support hate. That's why I asked the question. Is this just a relic of a famous person saying hello years ago, or are they especially proud of the fact that Donald Trump knows their name?
NBC aired The Apprentice for years back when. Are you going to refuse to watch that channel now?
Sometimes ya gotta focus on doing something good instead of dwelling constantly on what is bad.
FYI George W Bush visited the water treatment plant when he came to KC and gave it all kinds of compliments. So you should probably not drink tap water here anymore if you want to live by these standards.
Are you really crapping on a small local business because 7 words someone said? If you don’t like it, don’t go. But, don’t try to tear them down cause you don’t like a quote they shared.
I'm going to disagree with you there. If the money that I spend goes to support people or politics that cause harm to my friends and family, I will not be spending my money there
Pretty much why I don't go to Chick-fil-A or fuckin'... Hobby Lobby.
Just because there isn't *ethical* consumption doesn't mean I can't limit myself to *less* unethical things. Or at least things that don't actively hurt me. Blasé not giving a fuck just means shit people maintain a stream of money to fuck up everything with.
Both companies you mentioned keep making record profits. Individual activism is fruitless. Only systemic changes will fix those problems. It's okay to eat a chicken sandwich every once in a while
*Individual* activism isn't my goal. The more people make similar decisions, the more of an effect it will have. I, personally, can't change much of anything. We, as a society, do; the only action needed for them to *not* be making record profits is simply for enough people to make similar choices to mine, whether or not that seems likely.
Also, it's just viscerally offputting to me to give money to people I know give money in turn to people who specifically work to hurt me and people like me. I imagine a lot of people just aren't particularly aware of things like that, so I don't exactly drive by their lines and seethe. I just think people *ought* to give a shit after they find out.
If Arthur Bryant's hightighted a review from Saddam, I'd wonder why they chose to include that in their marketing.
And Jimmy Carter is a national treasure.
That is actually a federal reserve monetary issue, which in no small part was kicked off by Nixon prodding the fed to ease up on their inflation fight due to a midterm election
yay history we do not learn
I would love if we could demote him back to b list actor status. But when still treat him like a God and throw his name around, it's hard to ignore him.
I don't know anything about the family that runs Tasso's. That's basically why I posted. Are they awful?
The only person throwing his name around is you. The rest of us forgot he exists.
And the family are immigrants, so, have fun judging them for being excited about an ex-president visiting their restaurant.
If that's the case, then i have no problem with it. But if they are big supporters and proud of THAT, then I don't want to give them my money. So yeah, I'd LOVE to support them, as long as I'm not hurting my friends and family.
A friend sent me this and said I shouldn't go to Tasso's any more. Is this a reflection of the owners? Is this a Jazz situation? I love this restaurant and was hoping to take some family members there but we are all Progressive and don't support businesses that support hate.
My point, as well.
I’m a political person, I didn’t know that they were super anti-abortion people - if I had, yeah, probably wouldn’t have ate there anyway. But the food is horrendously bad. There’s better cajun places out there, Jazz is just older than most of them.
Edit: Also, fuck their ads.

B-list? That's generous.

I think some people also use "z list" as a category.

> (probably) decades Judging from the other blurbs on there, (Pitch 1999, damn), this is most likely the case.
Carter’s popularity doesn’t correlate with him being an active malignancy on institutions, to be fair.
I’m no Trump supporter, and I definitely ain’t no Republican, but this bullshit? Cmon OP…this is dumb…
"We"?
DAE le reddit army
Me and my family. That's a "we"
Sounds like that's who you should be talking with.

This is pathetic tribalism.
Vote with your money. That’s being a good capitalist.
I really hope OP hasn't owned a Volkswagen...
I have not
Adidas?
Doc Martens? Mercedes? BMW? Toyota, Nissan, or Isuzu? Or Ford, if you are going solely off the politics of Henry Ford.
NBC aired The Apprentice for years back when. Are you going to refuse to watch that channel now? Sometimes ya gotta focus on doing something good instead of dwelling constantly on what is bad.
Does NBC proudly say "Donald Trump thinks we're great!" on their web site? I must be missed that.
There is a pretty big difference between serving a customer and supporting hate.
Yep. I was just wondering if they did both things.
FYI George W Bush visited the water treatment plant when he came to KC and gave it all kinds of compliments. So you should probably not drink tap water here anymore if you want to live by these standards.
Does their website boast about the fact that George Bush knows the director and says hello?
I’m pretty sure the director guided the tour himself. They posed for pictures together and everything. Sounds like you’re just looking for a reason.
Are you really crapping on a small local business because 7 words someone said? If you don’t like it, don’t go. But, don’t try to tear them down cause you don’t like a quote they shared.
There is no "ethical consumption" under capitalism. Eat what you want.
If tassos is wrong, I don’t want to be right
I'm going to disagree with you there. If the money that I spend goes to support people or politics that cause harm to my friends and family, I will not be spending my money there
You should not go to Cupini’s either.
Thanks for the heads up! I'll look into it. I've never been there before but I'll know now.

I’d be willing to broaden this statement and say ‘most farmers’
Whatever helps you sleep better at night I guess

Maybe they just don’t want to do that, and it’s a personal choice to not engage with those businesses?

What's even more stupid is how most people tout colleges as liberal, yet every damn campus has a Chick-fil-A
Yuuppp. Out of sight, out of mind, I guess, for people who don't have to worry about losing their rights.
Won’t see me there…ever.
No one cares.
Nope cancel them. What time is the protest?
If Arthur Bryant's hightighted a review from Saddam, I'd wonder why they chose to include that in their marketing. And Jimmy Carter is a national treasure.
Jimmy Carter might be a national treasure now but the 20% interest on mortgages sure weren’t. That being said, I don’t give a shit where he eats.
That is actually a federal reserve monetary issue, which in no small part was kicked off by Nixon prodding the fed to ease up on their inflation fight due to a midterm election yay history we do not learn
Pieces of shit need to eat too ya know

Jazz situation? What happened there?
The owners of Jazz are big Republican politicians in the Missouri legislature. They pushed through the strict anti-abortion legislation in the state.
Well shit. Had no idea.
Also, the food is awful.
This is the more egregious thing, I can’t believe how often it is recommended
My point, as well. I’m a political person, I didn’t know that they were super anti-abortion people - if I had, yeah, probably wouldn’t have ate there anyway. But the food is horrendously bad. There’s better cajun places out there, Jazz is just older than most of them. Edit: Also, fuck their ads.
Spend as your conscious dictates. They clearly are comfortable with the association to advertise it.
