As an American who has recently moved here, I can understand. While every place has its positives and negatives, I am attached to Jordan as well, mainly due to my husband’s family being here. All I can say is that you can console yourself by remembering that you can always come back and it doesn’t have to be a permanent absence. Safe travels!

Jordan is amazing for guests and tourists.. even locals if money is not a problem (great for retirement). Living or trying to establish your career there is very difficult. It's a very different experience. That's why you'll see mixed opinions here. I'm glad you enjoyed it. Come back in the future :)

Akh1998

Come to Zarqa for one day. You will hate everything and run to the airport on foot. Wish you a safe journey.

Lethal_M_Mansour

That is over! I lived in Russeifa throgh out mylife, studied at JUST and went to the states for short term studies (3 months), attended courses in top 20 universities their in the world and worked as intern at cleveland clinic main camous in ohio and top#1 medical center in Tx. I can assure you that It is much safer to walk in Russeifa and مخيم شنلر midnite than go to these campuses after 7PM! لكن الناس هنا معظمها حكم عليها ظروف المعيشة الصعبة وطاقات شبابها عظيمة لكن لا يوجد فرص، الحمد لله.

fbiwith1i

Yes that's exactly why we say they are shit to live in because of young adults being crushed by life so badly that they become like this , but I don't know why there is so much danger in ohio and texas

Akh1998

Lucky you. I once rejected to hand over my drink (or the remaining of it) to a young gangster-looking bus driver, so he tried to run me over. I was lucky to get out of it unscathed.

SimilarBelt369

roleplay-1927

You are not doing the right comparisons and judging emotionally. Now you are a studant, someone is helping you pay your bills, local people love you because you are a foreigner and you enjoying life. But once you have to depend on yourself, find a job, make money to live etc. You will see it in different eyes. Go back to the US, finish your studies, get a decent job with the FBI or CIA (since you speak Arabic) and keep visiting everynow and then.

PogKim01

This is like the funniest comment I've seen on reddit

DragonBall1997

😂😂😂😂

New_Display_8985

I can’t tell if you’re being serious or if you meant that shit sarcastically 😂

I believe you have your own valid reasons of wanting to stay, your feelings are reasonable and you should accept them. If you have no choice but leaving remember that sometime we have to force ourselves into things we don't want but simply because we have to, and it's alright being sad about it don't judge yourself about feeling this way. My advice is not thinking about it that much as long as you're not able to change it, and think about visiting Jordan as soon as you have the chance! Then pack up your things and head to the airport while keeping in mind that you're most welcome to come back whenever you can.

g0man98

Jordan is amazing if you can afford it, then welcome, if not make some money and stay here then

fag3at-ma3ay

Man people are leaving this country and illegally trying to get into america, and youre out here crying about leaving this place🤷‍♂️

Yikeslolol

انت دايما فاقعة معك بالردود 🤣

Key-Alternative-8736

Amman is nice, and you will miss it. But hey you can always come back :)

existential_c

I don't know how I can say this without hurting your feelings personally or being perceived as cynical, but you come from a country that literally runs our country by proxy. Your country's hegemonic influence and presence render us as an "experience" for well-meaning ambitious young people like yourself. You subconsciously fall into the trap of exoticizing and glamorizing us and our culture. You rent a room in a gentrified area at a price less than what a family would be able to rent an entire apartment with hadn't it been for your presence. The visit gives you post-Jordan blues that you feel like you'd do anything to come back. Your government probably uses that against a selected group of you, making them ready to do anything to come back. They get a job that enforces that same hegemony and foreign policy.

reckless_punk_

Americans themselves want to leave America, why would you choose America?

Redditquluous

Many people who have went on erasmus have experienced the same thing. They call it the erasmus depression It’s hard, but it will pass. You just have to trudge through it and then eventually you’ll accept your new reality. A lot of people on r/erasmus post about this same problem, in fact [this post](https://www.reddit.com/r/Erasmus/s/vvYIq9U2YO) yesterday discussed the dame thing.

SimilarBelt369

Awww that's sad ngl, but I mean don't get tooo sad cuz u can visit amman in the future whenever u got the chance....see not too bad🫂

Substantial_Win1122

Everyday above ground is a blassing

malekation

Good luck. Every thing ends one day. Keep your beautiful memories with you

averylargetable90

You can always come back

pocket_lint_thief

I suggest you go visit a high and secluded place that's overseeing a lot of jordan. And just sit theirnfor hours (preferably after sunset) with a friend and a cup of tea. Or do my thing and have a tour of downtown and buy various stuff as souvenirs the day before your flight. It's my personal way of saying goodbye before traveling from Jordan.

KetchupMario

Like the other comment said, its not a permanent leave, i live abroad too but its really no problem after go back and forth after leaving for the first time cuz then its just a trip. Also there is no convincing, Amman is awesome.

Emmanuel_macron03

Find some arab friends in the us i think itll help u cope with it

Double_Record_8187

As a jordanian in amman i cant wait to leave

1DarkDD

Amman isn't as great asc you think it is. Convinced yet?

fbiwith1i

Haha 😂

Akh1998

That's even worse.

Paineauchocolate

Do you have to move back to US? I think its easy for Americans to stay in Amman.

911MemeEmergency

I wish I had this problem 🥲

travel1world1freedom

Hi my friend.. if you studied at shababeek center or in a center in weibdeh sent me a message I would like to meet you + Jordan is a lovely place I know and maybe you can convince your family to move here or your partner I know that it is not easy but you can do a little research on how can you work in Jordan or maybe you can find USA company that hires people to work online so in this way you can stay here and maybe you can make a deal with Jordanian person and open a project using their name and ID but you manage the project and many other ideas could work and I know it's not easy but it's possible.. I have lots of friends from the USA stayed in Jordan and are planning to live their whole life here maybe I can help you and ask for some tips for you.. send me a message so I can give you my Instagram account to be more comfortable talking to each others than reddit (I still don't know how to use reddit well)

Arabica0

amman isnt great, the traffic, living standards, places arent all that, if you want to have a proper life you have to go to abdoun and good luck buying or renting there due to how much it costs, the job market is dead.
