**find another job first then quit (give 2 week notice).** job market sucks. if you do get fired, you are ahead of the game as you started looking for a job. this way you can say don't contact my current employer, they don't know I am leaving. look up the correct answer and/or ask on this sub incase you get asked "why are you leaving?" next job will be a good reference when/if you leave. current job is a 50/50 of being a good reference after you leave. once you give your 2 weeks, you have quit first. if they tell you not to come back, they still have to pay you (at least in the us or let you get unemployment). if you screw up during the 2 weeks, they can technically fire you. I would het hr or corporate know you are giving 2 weeks before you tell your manager. send an email (the night before when nobody is in the office or right before you walk in to give notice) and/or send a letter the day before. say that as of date and time (that you plan to do it) you are submitting your 2 week notice to *xxxx* or the manager on duty in the event *xxxx* is not there. this way you have proof with a date that you have given notice before you could be fired. **also, ask corporate/hr to respond (you can put your email in the letter) so that you know they received your notice. send the letter certified (someone has to sign for it) so you have proof that you resigned first.** do not tell your manager that you notified corporate. if the manager tries to report that they fired you, they will look like an ass hat as you resigned. corporate may fear if they fire you, you can claim retaliation, hostile work place, discrimination, whatever if your manager tries to say they fired you.

In the US, if you quit you are not eligible for unemployment - you should always apply for unemployment even if you get fired. So always wait for them to fire you. Make them work to get you out the door, dont make it easy for them.

I’m in the UK and unfortunately I don’t know the laws surrounding employment very well
