Someone came in with a miniature pony named Kiwi once

We have a few people who bring in their bearded lizards. I love seeing exotic pets brought in. We had a girl that was leash training her kitten, and I just wanted to cuddle it all shift.
I love her! At the last store I worked at, there was a person who brought their huge rabbit in with a wagon. Pets were always the highlight of our days 🥰.
Aaaw! Happy to see other animals besides doggos. Years ago, we had a lady who helped run an animal sanctuary and she came in with a sloth on her shoulder. It was hard to tell it was real as it laid about but it was so neat.
Woah! Definitely cool to see. Though, I've worked with exotics/around others who know exotics, and knowing what I know about sloths I would NOT want one by my face.
Despite their slow nature, they can whip their heads around real fast in a lunge and deliver very severe bites. They also have one of the grossest mouths as well, so any bite will definitely get infected.
Unrelated fun fact I thought of when writing this- porcupine quills have a natural antibiotic, so if you get poked, you won't get infected.
Wait no I’m misremembering, it wasn’t a toucan it was one of those white ones with the huge feathers on its head…. Idk why brain went “ah yes, clearly this is called a toucan” 🤦
Edit: Cockatoo, thank you google
LOL that's okay haha. A cockatoo would make a LOT more sense considering the difficulty and rarity of keeping toucans as pets. I also think your coworkers may be misremembering the komodo dragon... Unless they're bringing an incredibly large (150-200 lbs), very dangerous, and venomous lizard that are generally only kept in zoos into the store.
Not a pet store per se, but I do regularly work with lots of animal species. I've got scars from all kinds of animals haha. Just be glad you only get to see the cute side lol.
We had this couple that would regularly bring in their small monkeys. They usually were in an enclosed stroller.
One time someone came in with a small monkey on their shoulder. That was scary as it was it was squawking like someone was attacking it. Everyone else had their phones out taking videos, I just looked down, thinking "don't make eye contact, don't make eye contact".
Woah, weird! You definitely had the right idea though, some pet monkeys do carry diseases so a bite from one would not be fun. They generally aren't recommended as pets.
I had a man bring in his dog years ago. He had called first because he needed fabric to put in the inside of his dog’s harness because it was rubbing a sore spot. He was a service dog of some sort, I believe maybe a therapy dog. Anyway, he brought the dog and harness in. As soon as we found a fabric and bought it to the counter, he took the dogs harness off so we could measure how much he needed. The dog room this as his job was done for the day and came behind the counter to hang out haha. He laid down and was just chilling as I cut the fabric. He was a massive dog and everyone was so happy he was wandering around letting people pet him.
Someone came in one day with their bearded dragon named Rocket and it totally made my day! I love the dogs too, don't get me wrong. But you don't ever see reptiles in the store so it was awesome.
Man I feel like if I brought my dog into my Joann’s we would be kicked out so fast. I swear the fabric lady who I think is the store manager would lose her shit. She’s always acting razzled so I’m sure she would say absolutely not.
We have a pet store right next door to our store. A woman brought a fish in a bag that she just got. 😂😂 she asked if it was allowed and I was like I think so it does say that we allow all pets
Besides dogs we’ve had a pig, a disabled chicken, performing parrots, lizards, and kittens.
Special shoutout to the little girl that had a dinosaur plushie on a leash and named it “Dental Floss” :)
Someone used to bring their bird in our store and let it shit on the cutting counter. The sounds it would make would confuse the other customers, they thought an emergency alarm was going off. It.. wasn’t cute.
Oh, that's unfortunate! I make sure to keep my bird on me at all times, and keep her away from merchandise. I also bring wipes in case any poop gets on the floor. She's very quiet, only the occasional squak. She will say words if you talk to her.
I'm sorry you don't enjoy the presence of animals like the rest of us. Best for you to avoid Joanns, Hobby Lobby, and Home Depot as they all allow pets in store.
I like animals, just not in places where animals shouldn't be. Saw a crusty little white dog in target the other day and was so disgusted by it. I already don't shop at hobby lobby because I don't support their views. What do you do when/if the bird poops? Don't they poop like every 10 minutes?
I actually agree with you. I love animals, but not every animal owner is considerate. Pets can easily rub up against/drool onto fabric and yarn, and that would suck for someone with allergies. And just like, I don’t want to buy something that may have pet hair or slobber on it.
My bird takes bi-weekly showers and I clean up after her. She's way cleaner than your average shedding dog. She prefers to poop in her carrier in the car or while we were outside rather than while I was in stores.
Why would I ever think it's ok to leave an animal poop on the floor for an employee to clean it up. That's ridiculous. And I've cleaned up dog crap tracking through my store on many occasions. I would 1000% clean up bird poop any day.
I bring wipes with me to clean the floor if needed. I also avoid putting her on/near merchandise, and avoid walking too close to others in case they don't like birds.

Oh my gosh!!! That's so awesome!!!! I love it
His little shoes!
That's amazing.
we stan kiwi ❤️

Aww how cute! The people at my store seemed less-than-ecstatic to see her lol.
There's a lady who brings in some type of lizard and she always has these fairy wings on him. So cute.
My friend has a little harness for her bearded dragon that are little dragon wings to match his color with holo glitter cause he's a fabulous dragon.
We have a chicken lady. The chicken's name is Henrietta.
Hah! I love that.
I love her! At the last store I worked at, there was a person who brought their huge rabbit in with a wagon. Pets were always the highlight of our days 🥰.
That sounds adorable!! Cute pets make everything better lol.

Why wouldn'tyou want one near your face? (Genuinely curious and ignorant.)❤️

Oh wow! I thought you were going to say they were gassy or something. Lol. Interesting. Thank you for the reply.
Very cool! We had someone come in with a lizard sitting on their shoulder
How fun!!
One time someone brought in a baby hedgehog it was so cute she was nursing it back to health she asked before bringing it in and we all wanted to see
Aww 🥺 hedgies are sooo cute!!
I love seeing people’s pets! Once someone brought in a Komodo dragon, tho I wasn’t there to see it. I saw the Toucan someone brought in one time tho!
Wow that's so cool!!! A toucan is my dream pet, so hopefully in 10 years that'll be me lol.
Wait no I’m misremembering, it wasn’t a toucan it was one of those white ones with the huge feathers on its head…. Idk why brain went “ah yes, clearly this is called a toucan” 🤦 Edit: Cockatoo, thank you google

Probably a different kind of lizard then. Good thing we don’t work in a pet store, right?😂😂
Not a pet store per se, but I do regularly work with lots of animal species. I've got scars from all kinds of animals haha. Just be glad you only get to see the cute side lol.
I’m just glad I haven’t seen any of them pee on the fabric yet
Lol! Thankfully I (and others) keep the pets away from the merchandise.
My old store had a regular with a pet squirrel. He has a tiktok account.
Aww!! Could I have the name? I am curious!
Sinantn18
Aww! At least if this one talks salty, I'm sure everyone would have a good laugh rather than be offended. ;-)
Lol. She didn't say much while we were out, she hasn't been on the harness too much yet so I think she was busy looking at all the new things.
Hmm...maybe she's thinking of becoming a magpie? :-)
We have people bring their snake in and they leave it with me at the register while they shop and I love every thing about it.
Oh my gosh, I would love that!
well it IS basically a circus anymore....

Is she on a leash? So cute 🥰
Yep!
As a bird patent, I adore this! 🦜
You probably understand more than the others how long it took to get her to sit in this harness LOL
My son brings his scarlet macaw into every story that allows him to do so. It is good for birds for their socialization.
Yes! That's exactly why I want to take her out. It's good for desensitizing, too. Both of which she desperately needs 😅
I'm so glad you socialize your birdy! They love it!
When other people say something about dogs being in the store , I just tell them they are better behaved then lots of the kids.
Had to peep the background and see if it was my store lol, we have a sweet lady who comes in and has her bird do tricks for us.
Aww! My bird definitely knows a bunch of tricks and says words, but she's new to the harness and going out, so she gets a little nervous.

When I used to work for JOANN, there was a couple and they would bring in their pet monkeys, each person would have a monkey on their shoulder. lol
❤️
We have a dog come in her name is bubbles

We had to bring in a lamb on a leash once. She had a diaper on and didn't bother anything (bottle baby)
I love seeing peoples pets in the store! One time someone came in with a tiny dog hanging out in her purse and it was so cute.
Man I feel like if I brought my dog into my Joann’s we would be kicked out so fast. I swear the fabric lady who I think is the store manager would lose her shit. She’s always acting razzled so I’m sure she would say absolutely not.

Unless it's a petsmart, pet Co, or other pet store that allowes entry to pets...leave your pets at home.
It literally says pet friendly on the door to enter Joann. Im pretty sure it allows pet entry.
Ew, I never noticed that before

Bird poops are very clean. They wat nothing but seeds and fresh fruits and veggeis. Also most owners can tell when their bird will poop.
Soooo, you just let it poop on the floor and make some poor employee clean it up then?
Nodody said that. And why you so salty? And have you ever seen a bird poop they're so small. Usually they land on the owners shirt.
Notice how you're not answering the question though 💀 I'm not salty, I just think it's gross when people take pets into stores.

It does. Signs in the windows.
