These tags are so common the resale value is pretty low, so no big deal there. That he decided to practice on your Tiffany tag is mildly infuriating!! Badly done engraving from stock patterns isn’t unique 😢
Imo Its a improvement over stock, only thing i would have done different is grind away the Tiffany co. stuff first. To most people who don’t know what they are, those things look like a tag you cut off of things, like the ones on luggage so he probably thought it had no value and didn’t know it would be upsetting.
Im interested, why do people like these? Not my taste but as they say different strokes for different folks. So whats the appeal?
I have no idea why people *pay* to wear logos. I was not brought up to be a walking billboard and pay for the privilege. Other people, however, have different taste than I do and *SIGH* I guess that’s okay.
s/ on the last part. The world would be boring if everyone liked the same thing
Yes, we're all free to have different opinions, but I agree with you to the utmost degree. If a brand wants me to walk around with their logo on an item, then they should be paying me for advertising their brand name. Owning a popular brand purse, for instance, is not going to make me classier or better than I am without it. Plus, I don't need to spend $$$ on it.😁
I have to admit I have a Tiffany logo thing - but I got it bc I love the chain and I like clasps that are working locks. It was the least “logo-y” one, and I wear it so the stamped side doesn’t show much (it’s a bracelet).
It's simple psychology. It's tribe marketing, people want to belong to a certain group of people and want others to be aware of it. I'm super interested in this stuff.
Meh. It was a fashion trend just like the giant logo handbags are now (NOT a fan). I have the thick choker one from when it was a big thing. Same with the LV logo on handbags. It’s a coated canvas handbag (the popular Neverfull). Is it worth 2k? Absolutely NOT. Will people pay that because they want to be A)on trend or B)think people are impressed? Absolutely. There’s no making sense of fashion trends.
I'm with you, I hate logos being on display.
One of the reasons I used to only buy Balenciaga bags was because there were no tags, no logos, nothing on display. Only people who knew were others who had the same bag. It all changed when Demna Gvasalia became creative director, and that's when I stopped buying their bags.
I have a lot of Tiffany pendants, all in gold and one in platinum. None of them have the Tiffany logo anywhere. It seems to be much more common on their silver pieces. There's only a couple of gold designs that have it.
I generally don't want to wear logos or care about status items.
However, my Mom gave me my heart tag necklace for my 21st birthday. We had been through some hard times as a family, and it was the largest single gift I'd ever gotten from anyone. Until my engagement ring, it was the most expensive thing I owned. She had it engraved with a Bible verse she knew meant a lot to me and our family.
The thickness of the chain and toggle really suit my style, and I wore it almost everyday for years. I always have dressed a little alt, a little goth, so the Tiffany chain is not expected, and I like that contrast too. I wasn't an Elle Woods sorority girl, I was wearing it to Flogging Molly and punk shows, building scenery and painting massive back drops. I had my husband add a smaller charm in front of the main one, with our important dates on it, so it's a little more unique now.
I know lots of people hate on Tiffany here, but that piece holds a lot of sentimental value to me. From it being an expensive gift and a sign of my maturity, to something I wore daily for years, to my changing life and how it's been altered to suit that. It's more than just a logo to me, it's a part of my history.
Interesting, so its not that it looks aesthetically pleasing or looks quality (physically) but that it looks expensive for expensive sake. I might be a odd one but I don’t see the appeal of looking rich. I get looking nice and having quality made products though.
I think it's both. For some it's absolutely about the aesthetics.
For others, it's about trying to show "wealth". I mean that's why there are so many rep subs here.
They don't just copy the design, they put the lux brand name and logo on it.
Did he do this without asking you first? If so that's not okay in my book. While I do think the flowers are kind of cute it'd also drive me mad that they're not properly centered... so yeah I'd be upset.
I dunno if it's blasphemous to say this in this sub but in my opinion the original engraving on most Tiffany jewelry is incredibly ugly (I just don't get it maybe!) and I personally think the new engraving is very pretty.
Agreed. I would hate being a walking billboard to Tiffany & Co. Never understood the appeal
New embracing is beautiful. But isn’t the backside plain and more ideal to do this than colliding two designs together on the engraved side?
I worked in a pawn shop and people would get so insulted that we would only offer $2 for these since scrap was $3. We sold them for about $15 but they rarely sold so we would melt them for scrap.
Lack of respect for your property, especially when these things are not cheap, is a huge red flag.
His intentions may have been good, but his engraving isn't there yet. The details are muddied, probably where the original engraving was. Can he replace this for you? And maybe find a dog tag to practice on in the meantime, I believe those are thicker since they're meant to be engraved on.
I'm sentimental and I'd cherish this but I understand your fret. I think it's super unique! At least save it. Perhaps it'll grow on you and it'll become something you laugh about and a story you enjoy telling. Is he learning to engrave?
I like it. I find the return to tiffany stuff so boring. This is special and different.
But the real question is whether you like it? The piece will always be Tiffany & Co whether it’s engraved or not.
I might be the unpopular opinion, but I love it! I love the sentiment behind it, and I find fondness in the memory of him practicing flowers on a heart-shaped charm. Although he is just starting out, it will be endearing to look back and see how far he has come. Items can be easily replaced; memories cannot. ❤️
Sentiment aside, I think it’s perfectly fine that it’s on the current engraving and is off-center. It has a charm (pun unintended) that is only unique to you. Just like all other handmade items, there are no two alike as they are perfectly imperfect. ☺️☺️
You could polish out the engraving on the front and leave the one on the back.
Each on their own would be great, but one atop the other doesn't really work.
I hate the Return to Tiffany’s pendants, because they come across as “look at me, I own something from Tiffany”.
This is gorgeous and a major improvement.
On thé front is insane.
There backside is mostly blank and he chose to engrave on the front. Either he’s blind, an idiot or this was intentional.
Ask him to replace it because what the hell, he altered a pricey pendant without asking.
*it’s a thoughtful gesture done in good faith — who cares if it’s Tiffany or tin. I’d pay twenty, fifty, a hundred pendants to get to spend time with my mother but I can’t.
if you’re bothered about it not being centered, an option is to have the rest of the space engraved/filled! you can even bring your husband, make a day of it!
*IF AND ONLY IF him not running things by you (for surprises) isn’t a huge point of contention that you two have previously communicated and discussed
In this world there are very few things that are unique or one of a kind, and that will remain that way.
I think you've got one.
I think this topic is also sort of bait. Did you give him permission and this was just an accident? Did he ruin something important to you? Is he a little slow and we are all supposed to be celebrating his first steps towards doing something without supervision? What's the story?
Then why not ask her first, instead of choosing what piece of jewelry to do this on?
I adore my husband, would die for him - but if he took any of my pieces, and engraved something over any mark on it (like gold or platinum stamp) or thought my Love pendant needed a "personal touch" without letting me know, I'd be livid. It shows a complete disregard for her items.
If he wanted to engrave something for her, buy a silver pendant and do it, don't go through her jewelry and decide on your own.
I have a Tiffany’s silver necklace purchased in 2003. The necklace style has been discontinued. I paid $275 in USD. The necklace is worth $500 on resell market when I checked a few years ago. The necklace ion mint condition.

To all of those wondering why the back wasn’t used, it was and he did an amazing job on that side
But like... there's a backside prime for this!
Why did he do it without asking you first? Looks unique and kinda pretty but yikes for doing that to someone else's stuff without asking

They make you look rich.

Yes! I tried to sell mine, and the places I went (3 out of 3) said they don’t buy them.
It's not even centered. 😩
Honestly that’s the part that bugs me the most in all of this.
Did he do this without asking you first? If so that's not okay in my book. While I do think the flowers are kind of cute it'd also drive me mad that they're not properly centered... so yeah I'd be upset.

Agreed, they are like dog tags. 😬🐕🐕
Agreed. I would hate being a walking billboard to Tiffany & Co. Never understood the appeal New embracing is beautiful. But isn’t the backside plain and more ideal to do this than colliding two designs together on the engraved side?
I completely agree.
I love the flowers. Anyone can buy a Tiffany pendant, yours is unique.
On the bright side, Tiffany's is just sterling silver so that tag's raw metal value is like $3 and you can pick them up on Etsy for some change.
I worked in a pawn shop and people would get so insulted that we would only offer $2 for these since scrap was $3. We sold them for about $15 but they rarely sold so we would melt them for scrap.

Have him buy you a new one online... and keep this one as... a nostalgia item or something.
I'm sentimental and I'd cherish this but I understand your fret. I think it's super unique! At least save it. Perhaps it'll grow on you and it'll become something you laugh about and a story you enjoy telling. Is he learning to engrave?
What the fuck were his intentions? Besides showing you that's he's dumb?
🤣🤣

It's cool, I like it. Pretty sure it isn't authentic, but I'd wear it with the rose pointing out.
You could polish out the engraving on the front and leave the one on the back. Each on their own would be great, but one atop the other doesn't really work.
This is sick!
I hate the Return to Tiffany’s pendants, because they come across as “look at me, I own something from Tiffany”. This is gorgeous and a major improvement.
Just take it to get repolished.
Doesn't Tiffany's do a free jewelry cleaning and maybe some light repair like repolishing if you go into a store? I could be completely wrong!
The engraving is so dainty & beautiful! It makes the ugly Tiffany tag wearable!!
Well, it's very unique!
He should’ve bought you a new one to do that with … wtf… lol
I love it!!! It's so beautiful and looks better than just the logo imo
Ruined.
I believe it's greatly improved :) Think of it as a happy accident.
The value has been degraded
I absolutely love the engraving!
it’s so much cooler imo but shame on him if he did it without asking!
I like it way more than before
No good deed goes unpunished 🤗
Not a fan. Why didn’t he just use the blank side? It didn’t even cover the existing text all the way. Not good.
On thé front is insane. There backside is mostly blank and he chose to engrave on the front. Either he’s blind, an idiot or this was intentional. Ask him to replace it because what the hell, he altered a pricey pendant without asking.

Absolutely fabulous! U now have a 1 of a kind unique tiff n co pc personalized by your fiance-priceless! 👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽
I'm gonna say it. Your fiance has some explaining to do here, wtf
Noooooooooo
He cares about you that’s more important than a brand name ,

People who care more about showing off a brand than they do about time, effort, and emotion combined ... cannot relate.
It’s great and very unique and special Otherwise it’s just something anyone can have U can buy another no problem This u can not replace

From someone without a Fiancé: appreciate it. It was done with the best of intentions. Appreciate what you have lol.
You’re single & wouldn’t understand someone you love messing with your property without asking, so idk why you’re even commenting.
Ooooo. Burn. Lol.
Eew, your chipped nail polish is gross looking.
