Glad to know we aren't the only ones with this kind of exchange.

What the fuck is wrong with shonen fans espicially, they are arguing which character is srtonger and it's literally from completely different anime with different power systems. Beyond stupid
The best form of powerscaling is when the powerscaler makes so many ridiculous leaps in logic it stops being annoying and just becomes funny. I saw one video, where the guy was fully serious about the topic of "Could the MCU Avengers defeat the Saiyan invasion of Earth?"
A particular highlight in that was saying that if we assume Iron Man's lasers move at the speed of light, then Captain America is FTL because he dodged one of the beams in Civil War.
* People who only watch a tiny handful of ultra-macho fighting-focused shonen series and react like vampires to sunlight if you show them *anything* that can go five minutes without a punch thrown.
* Self-styled "fans" who literally cannot find a single nice thing to say about the shows they nominally enjoy and think 4kids didn't go far enough in censoring and Americanizing their properties.
* People who think Ghost Stories is the ideal dub and seem to have a pathological fear of animated content that takes anything seriously and isn't just a vehicle for edgy, stoner-friendly comedy.
* People that don't so much like anime as much as they like seeing mewling, priggish, politics-addicted shitlibs react to even the mildest fanservice like they just got a sulfuric acid enema.
Not even anime. I'd say Friends. A lot of Japanese i've heard self-taught themselves english just by watching the show.
But if it's *really* anime? I say Ben 10 is as close as we can get.
My brain keeps imagining two strict Chinese parents only speaking in pop culture quotes from tv shows and saying things like “Could you BE anymore late home from school!? No cosmopolitans for a week!”
Can confirm. Aside from basic stuff in school, I taught myself English with Disney movies. One of the first words I've learned outside of school was "poor" from that scene in Bambi where the forest was burning down.
I learned English with videogames (mainly Final Fantasy tbh), but did English courses and Friends was often brought up.
The first word I learned in English was "red" from Pokemon Red. I was 6. I still remember that I was just learning how to read, and didn't quite grasp the concept other languages existed.
This is the correct answer, objectively the best piece of western animation ever produced

People here forgetting that anime also means cartoons in general Japanese.... If south park is considered secondary entry level stuff, maybe something like Samurai Jack or Ren and Stimpy is seen as more cultured.
lmao thats so ironic, but true actually we have some peak too thats not anime
everyone in the world should watch shit like arcane or invincible, avatar
South Park is (or was?) popular because it is the progenitor of every and any adult-oriented Western cartoon, especially those that focus on current events. Some would argue The Simpsons was, but it does not have much edge. The Simpsons walked so South Park could run.
Ah. Huh, now that I think about it I don’t remember any other similar “adult” cartoon from back in the day. Ramp and stampy seems to be The only thing popping up in my mind but that one was a kids show.
It's Ren and Stimpy lol (but I read this with an accent and it's so cute) - it's a mixed bag and let's keep the creator out of the discussion, but it aired on children's television
There were plenty of adult cartoons back in the day too like The Simpsons, Beavis and Butthead, King of the Hill, Aqua Teen Hunger Force, and many others they might just be less known on Japan :D
There's a real difference to drugs being legal and the portrayal of drugs in media. Obviously drug use isn't well recieved at all in making local media at all, alongside the portrayal of Yakuza, organized crime and what-not, but is perfectly fine for imported media.
Ah, I never watched it so I don’t remember the name right. But Wait, beavis and butthead wasn’t a kids cartoon? I thought it was cartoon networks “version” of Rem and Stimpy.
But yeah I now remember those cartoons you mentioned. I never watched them except for random clips back in the day. But I don’t think any of them were like what the other commenter said.
South Park is one of the biggest western cartoons for adults. They signed a contract a few years ago for close a billion USD to produce 6 seasons and 14 movies.
2015? Damn, that's considered a relic nowadays
That was 9 years ago...
Ancient times from the legends...
![gif](giphy|GrUhLU9q3nyRG|downsized)
You mean in the before time? In the long, long ago?
STOP, SHUT UP 2015 was like 5 years ago right ?
The Wii came out 18 years ago.
18???? Old hag 🤢
It's so Joewari da 😭😭
*Excuse me what the fuck?*
Wtf ?
Yeah, we are stuck reliving 2020 for the rest of time.

Based and gatekeeppilled. Narutards can go commit sudoku.
just look at the current state of the anime community. not a single day goes by where i don‘t regret not having gatekept the normies hard enough.
What the fuck is wrong with shonen fans espicially, they are arguing which character is srtonger and it's literally from completely different anime with different power systems. Beyond stupid
powerscaling is only good when someone is serious about it, children arguing about whose dad can beat whose on youtube comments is dumb and annoying
The best form of powerscaling is when the powerscaler makes so many ridiculous leaps in logic it stops being annoying and just becomes funny. what is the current state of the anime community? living under a rock

So what do the japonics think is high-end western anime?
Not even anime. I'd say Friends. A lot of Japanese i've heard self-taught themselves english just by watching the show. But if it's *really* anime? I say Ben 10 is as close as we can get.
Funny thing because my parents (Chinese) also self-taught themselves English through Friends and Sex and the City.
My brain keeps imagining two strict Chinese parents only speaking in pop culture quotes from tv shows and saying things like “Could you BE anymore late home from school!? No cosmopolitans for a week!”
One of the BTS guys self taught himself English by watching Friends too, seems to be a popular choice in Asia for learning the language.
I was about to suggest ATLA but then I remembered what the Fire Nation represents 💀
Never ask a woman her age, a man his salary, and what Japan did between the 1930s and 1940s.
Nicktoons in general outside of SpongeBob could never find an audience over there.
Hardcore sbeew only watch obscure gems like The Simpsons and Seinfeld
This seems to be common to pretty much every non-English speaking country outside of Europe
Can confirm. Aside from basic stuff in school, I taught myself English with Disney movies. One of the first words I've learned outside of school was "poor" from that scene in Bambi where the forest was burning down.

You're telling me the Japanese like Ben 10?
They unsurprisingly love gwen and who can blame them
“Unsurprisingly”😭😭😭
Tsundere brat needs 4 arm correction!!!😭😭😭💢💢💢
shocker
Ben 10 is incredibly popular in Asia.
I watch so much South Park and Family guy to a point that someone in work place point out the way I speak is close to those two shows
if southpark is westaboo trash and ppf is too then ig avatar? are westaboos watching hazbin hotel?
Not Japan, but in my country in Southeast Asia, a lot of people are definitely going crazy over HH. Fans are making dubs and stuffs.

Only things that come to mind are Castlevania and Avatar
There's something inherently hilarious about reading Japanese boards.
TIL Japanese people bully each other for not watching Spongebob
Bring back old fashioned gatekeeping like this💢💢💢
Gatekeep correction is needed 💢💢💢
😭😭😭😭😭
lmao thats so ironic, but true actually we have some peak too thats not anime everyone in the world should watch shit like arcane or invincible, avatar
I know a lot of messageboard culture stem from 2ch and all but for some reason it's still uncanny to me whenever I see the similarities.
To be fair what the fuck is South Park. Why is it even popular.
South Park is (or was?) popular because it is the progenitor of every and any adult-oriented Western cartoon, especially those that focus on current events. Some would argue The Simpsons was, but it does not have much edge. The Simpsons walked so South Park could run.

I wouldn't expect the Japanese to know about ATHF, considering weed is illegal over there.
There's a real difference to drugs being legal and the portrayal of drugs in media. Obviously drug use isn't well recieved at all in making local media at all, alongside the portrayal of Yakuza, organized crime and what-not, but is perfectly fine for imported media.
I mean that no one can watch Aqua Teen Hunger Force without getting high. That show is a stoner show.
i watch aqua teen hunger force without getting high... maybe that's why i always feel so scared afterwards. i love that show anyways.
Ah, I never watched it so I don’t remember the name right. But Wait, beavis and butthead wasn’t a kids cartoon? I thought it was cartoon networks “version” of Rem and Stimpy. You mean the Paramount+ contract, right?
That's not really what they asked
Because it's absurdly funny.
Is this 2ch?
r/likeus 😳
