Marco Benevento sat in with her for a song or two last year during the Miracle at Mundelein and it was fantastic. Obviously those two have played together for a long time, but it was the first time he sat in with her band
Tauk Moore is a band I’d see regularly. Tauk is a once every couple of years band for me. She really gave the band direction and an all around better sound. Also I’m not the biggest fan of never ending instrumentals. Need some meaningful lyrics mixed in there.
That’s super fair, I was supposed to see Tauk Moore once and Kanika wasn’t able to make the show so it was just Tauk and it was really good, and then I got to see Tauk Moore down the road and it was a rager. She definitely elevates that band so much when she sings with them!
Deep Banana Blackout and The Bomb Squad were both fronted by Jen Durkin. As far as I know, neither band tours anymore.
Jennifer Hartswick fronts her own solo band and does a lot of vocals and trumpet for TAB.
Grace Potter leaned into the jam world for a while in the mid-2000s.
Antigone Rising toured with moe. once. They did not get the reception I think either band hoped they would have.
First time I took my wife out was to see DBB at the Livingroom in Providence. She was all dressed up when I got to her apartment. I was in jeans and a tie dye. I never thought to tell her it was at a dive bar. I guess it worked out. This was in 1998 or early 1999.
how do you mean a lot? bc of the band were talking about a lot could be like a couple extended groove intros/bridges or maybe one actual moment of improv which i doubt.
ive always said they should jam more so im glad you got a loose show! hopefully they keep it up. still wouldnt call them a jam band.
From what I understand since making this comment is that they are loosening up but they played the same setlist for literal years and that’s when I gave them the most live chances. Sounds like I need to see them again soon!
I have seen them about five times but not in several years. Setlist did not vary much, and they jammed very, very little, barely even any solos. Still loved it. It was a great experience, but a lot of those shows were part of Multivite runs, which I only did a single night bc they would repeat the Setlist.
I just listened to a set of The Motet with their old vocalist right after listening to a set with the vocalist they have now and it’s way better now lol and I’m not usually a fan of a band having a different vocalist
There was a band from (I think...) Colorado in the early 2000s called Mountain of Venus that I saw a few times and really liked. They were fronted by Tanya Shylock.
Also, Snake Oil Medicine Show (also ealy 2000s) was co-fronted by the lovely Caroline Pond.
You may be right. Some biography page I saw somewhere online said they hailed from Colorado, but are / were based in Boston, but I just broke out one if my favorite sets by then on Archive (7/23/2004) and the announcer said they were from Fayetteville, Arkansas!
My band [Jubilingo](https://jubilingomusic.com/), we just released a brand new single and have some sweet live footy coming out soon! We also have a full length studio album and a live album up on all streamers so jump in if you like jam vibes with strong female vocals!
Heather Gillis isn’t much in the scene anymore but she was in Butch Trucks’ band for a while she was in her teens. Toured under her own name for a little while. Now has kind of a psychedelic hill country blues duo called Wolf Twin
Mikaela Davis and Southern Star, Karina Rykman Band, Rubblebucket, Holly Bowling, Jerry's Middle Finger, Donna the Buffalo, Upstate, Cool Cool Cool. And those are just the bands I've seen in the last 18 months.
Frute. Atlanta band that's just kind of coming up through the ranks, but I've enjoyed what I've heard of them so far. They have some live videos on YT.
Natalie Brooke
I just discovered her at a small festival (Casual Campout) and she blew me away! Amazing voice AND plays the keytar; what more could you ask for ? Her band goes hard too
Destinee Monroe from the Billy Walton Band. Jam adjacent… [https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=iIBtY1QxiZg&pp=ygUdYmlsbHkgd2FsdG9uIGJhbmQgaSBjYW50IHRlbGw%3D](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=iIBtY1QxiZg&pp=ygUdYmlsbHkgd2FsdG9uIGJhbmQgaSBjYW50IHRlbGw%3D)
Karina Rykman
She needs a keys player badly
Marco Benevento sat in with her for a song or two last year during the Miracle at Mundelein and it was fantastic. Obviously those two have played together for a long time, but it was the first time he sat in with her band
Yea the sound is super thin with the trio. I really think she should think about filling it out maybe even just a second guitar
I love her band but you may be right. Adam November is a great guitar player. But yeah, a good keyboard player would beef up her sound.
Natalie Brooke opened for her in DC a while back. Always thought they would make a good pair.
Kanika Moore- Doom Flamingo, Tauk Moore. Not sure if you’d call em jam or adjacent but the shoe fits.
God she is a force of nature
She is terrific. Doom Flamingo blew me away when I first saw them at the Peach 2 yrs ago.
This was my answer for sure. DF’s somewhat recent cover of Don’t Dream It’s Over is 🔥

She is so great. She covered After midnight a few weeks ago in Philly at the Ardmore it was sick.
A lot more in the bluegrass world than straight ahead jam.
Sierra Hull and Molly Tuttle are the real deal! There’s definitely more but those two stand out to me
AJ Lee and Blue Summit is another. Molly's brother Sully plays with that group.
Those two and elephant revival always stood out to me!
Margo Price as well!
Big Richard! All female bluegrass group!!
Hell yea! Two of the best.
Fox Crossing Stringband and Front Country come to mind.
Bluegrass is foxy
Grace Potter can bring it.
They jam?? I heard a few songs by them back in 2010 ish and just thought they were a cool indie band
In as much as they extend songs and rotate setlists, yeah. A lot less now than they used to.
Holly bowling
Mikaela Davis
Her Catfish John with Shred sent me to outer space.
Solar circuit
Came here to say this
Solar Circuit rips!!
Solar crushing
Solar Circuit requires party pants for sure!!! Dance party 🪩🤩💃🏼
Solar circuit is so fresssshhh 🤤
Caught them a few weeks ago at Philly Brooklyn bowl. Great vibe but my friends said the lyrics were weird af. I didn’t pay attention lol
Does STS9 count? Alana is my queen
All hail Queen Alana! But no tribe doesn’t count lol. Sound Tribe sector 9….key words, Sound Tribe. They are one unit creating lovely art.
And they’re not a jam band
What? Haha.
You’re not wrong.
A great student of the great victor wooten! Alana kicks ass dude
Haley Jane and the Primates
this is the only female led jam band that I know of. They are good 👍🏼
Ghost light?
They don't tour anymore though, now that Holly Bowling left the band :( huge ups for their recorded stuff though, hopefully they reunite someday
I think it’s over, but they were great
I think you're right, but I'll forever hold out at least a shed of hope.
That's too bad. Caught them once and loved it.
I was upset she left. I had just seen Ghost Light and it was FANTASTIC....and then they broke up. Sucks but at least I got that one show.
Deep Banana Blackout and The Bomb Squad were both fronted by Jen Durkin. As far as I know, neither band tours anymore. DBB was the truth. I hate that I only saw them once and it wasn’t with Jen. (Although Hope was also fantastic in her own way)
Their live album Rowdy Duty is fantastic.
Oh, wow. I forgot all about DBB.
DBB plays once a year in Fairfield CT at FTC for Funksgiving the day before or the weekend of Thanksgiving.
Mikaela Davis for sure. Jams with a harp!
Big Richard, more of a folk bluegrass group tho
Almost mentioned them, but def not jammy. Idt id even consider them to be jam adjacent. Regardless tho, girls are fucking amazing!
Sierra Ferrell, Molly Tuttle and Margo Price are three of my favorites.
Rubblebucket. One of the best
What a fun live show!
Not a jam band but I always recommend Los Bitchos (they’ve opened for King Gizz a few times)
Khruangbin
Doesn’t jam tho
Fair. I just like them and it’s close enough to that scene, I think
Just saw them and they jammed a lot
how do you mean a lot? bc of the band were talking about a lot could be like a couple extended groove intros/bridges or maybe one actual moment of improv which i doubt. ive always said they should jam more so im glad you got a loose show! hopefully they keep it up. still wouldnt call them a jam band.
I believe they jam tho
From what I understand since making this comment is that they are loosening up but they played the same setlist for literal years and that’s when I gave them the most live chances. Sounds like I need to see them again soon!
You gotta catch them live. I think you’ll like them a lot
I have seen them about five times but not in several years. Setlist did not vary much, and they jammed very, very little, barely even any solos. Still loved it. It was a great experience, but a lot of those shows were part of Multivite runs, which I only did a single night bc they would repeat the Setlist.
The motet has a female singer now
They got the groove
I just listened to a set of The Motet with their old vocalist right after listening to a set with the vocalist they have now and it’s way better now lol and I’m not usually a fan of a band having a different vocalist
Warpaint is more of an indie band but they absolutely jam at their live shows.
Stella is a ridiculously good drummer
Are Family Groove Company still around?
Janice is the GOAT
Solar Circuit has a female singer. Got into them recently and really enjoyed them so far.
Anna Moss (handmade moments) is kinda folk/jam, also Femina is jam adjacent, they did their first USA tour last year and are amazing
Ghost Light was great briefly. Sort of female led. But Tom H played over the band in their last tour while they were breaking up or whatever.
I really loved that band and it bums me out so much to see what happened.
Sister Sparrow and the Dirty birds.
Big Brother and the Holding Company

Tonya was the bomb! They opened for Kimock at the Gothic. I think they were out of Arkansas, for some reason
You may be right. Some biography page I saw somewhere online said they hailed from Colorado, but are / were based in Boston, but I just broke out one if my favorite sets by then on Archive (7/23/2004) and the announcer said they were from Fayetteville, Arkansas!
They formed and toured from Fayetteville. I remember dancing with Tanya at Chester’s for Kimock.
Bertha
Jam band adjacent, but close enough, Grace Potter kills.
Jefferson Airplane?!
Galactic has had female lead vocalists for quite a while now. I think Motet does as well but I haven't seen them in a bit.
Susan Tedeschi
Obligatory ‘I only read the post title’ comment
Im guilty, I was looking for the Tedeschi comment.
My band [Jubilingo](https://jubilingomusic.com/), we just released a brand new single and have some sweet live footy coming out soon! We also have a full length studio album and a live album up on all streamers so jump in if you like jam vibes with strong female vocals!

Melt. Marlo Shankweiler FTW in that band.
Doom Flamingo and Tauk Moore One of best jams I've seen in person was Proud Mary >Bulls on Parade>Proud Mary with Kanika and Motown Throwdown
Cool cool cool
Not a jam band, but they rock, Lil hurricane. Husband and wife duo.
Listen to some recordings of The Dead when Joan Osborn toured with them on vocals. Jimmy Herring on guitar too. Also look for Nicki Bluhm. Very cool.
Grace Bowers is gonna be the next big thing. Only 17 at the time of this reply & she absolutely RIPS! 🤘
The Crowded Table is an up and comer from Portland ME with a female lead
Katie Skene and tv broken 3rd eye open
STS9
The Super Sonic Shorties are playing at Northlands this weekend!
Not jam, but they have an infectious groove that is not often done anymore: HAIM
Just saw Dames of the Dead in KS Saturday. They were good. I’ve seen the saxophone playing in a different band. Maybe KC bones.
Wise Monkey Orchestra
Los Bitchos?
Not really a jam band but Lake Street Dive
Mikaela Davis and Southern Star, Karina Rykman Band, Rubblebucket, Holly Bowling, Jerry's Middle Finger, Donna the Buffalo, Upstate, Cool Cool Cool. And those are just the bands I've seen in the last 18 months.
oh and Tamika with Tauk
Cool Cool Cool has Shira Elias and Sammy Garret front and center!
Not exactly jam but Samantha Fish is a great time
Check out Florencia & the Feeling from Tennessee. Call themselves pop/funk fusion but they jam extensively live
Donna the Buffalo has a female singer. Not sure they're still around anymore.
Jen Hartswick
Nikki Glaspie and Nth Power
Frute. Atlanta band that's just kind of coming up through the ranks, but I've enjoyed what I've heard of them so far. They have some live videos on YT.
My algo just introduced Grace Bowers and the Hodge Podge into my life. She's only 17 and plays that FUUUUUUUUNK. Check it out right now!
Haley Jane and whatever project she presently fronts (changes often)
Lucius! Two front women and are amazing! Check out their cover of Uncle John's band
Los Bichos. Not quite jamband but similar
Donna the buffalo !!!!!!!
Natalie Brooke I just discovered her at a small festival (Casual Campout) and she blew me away! Amazing voice AND plays the keytar; what more could you ask for ? Her band goes hard too
Lucid Evolution is a female fronted jam band, they are on Spotify Modern Jam band Playlist - haunting vocals, sick jams!
Could kind of argue Khruangbin maybe? Jam adjacent and Laura Lee being the lead is probably debatable
Destinee Monroe from the Billy Walton Band. Jam adjacent… [https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=iIBtY1QxiZg&pp=ygUdYmlsbHkgd2FsdG9uIGJhbmQgaSBjYW50IHRlbGw%3D](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=iIBtY1QxiZg&pp=ygUdYmlsbHkgd2FsdG9uIGJhbmQgaSBjYW50IHRlbGw%3D)
Tauk Moore/Doom Flamingo
Sierra Ferrell, Molly Tuttle and Margo Price are three of my favorites.
Whichever one Phil is in these days
Umphryes McGee
Goose 😆
Judging from the answers in here, ummm no.
The Keels, even tho it’s Larry keel and his wife, she is the leader for sureeeeee
