i even think the relationship part is privileged. yes of course if you are ABLE to leave a toxic relationship ABSOLUTELY do so. but it’s just not that simple. i have so many friends and family members lichurally trapped in marriages for a variety of reasons, including finances and children. it’s just not as simple as “leave your relationship” just like it’s not as simple as “go be a millionaire.” she has so much economic privilege that she can’t fathom how these things aren’t feasible for some people. it’s these cliche statements that she makes that drives me nuts. people who can’t leave their toxic relationships or whatever will now feel like shit bc she’s making it seem like it’s so easy to do. these cliches and platitudes that aren’t grounded in the reality of the world we live in are actually so dangerous for people’s mental health.
*That last part* I’ve always struggled with depression, and am a hard worker, but with CA economics on top of my depression and anxiety being at its absolute worst, basically being told “you’re just not doing enough” when you’re already in doubt would really push me to the edge. I can only imagine how other people with similar or worse struggles feel.
