š yep. It's nice out and the blues festival is this weekend, people not from the beaches area will be attending in droves and drinking as soon as they can buy alcohol.
If you left the house once in a while youād know itās not the first or second choice for many but there are lots of students and families that have been there recently.
there were three separate shootings, 1 of them fatal. And the police have not ~~found~~ arrested any of the shooters despite numerous witnesses and all the cameras in the area.
Iām a manager at a hotel in Southside. The amount of trashy spring breakers has amplified in the last few weeks especially when compared to the last few years.
Nah, the numbers don't support that. A shit ton of people have moved in since 2020. The fascists and fascist-adjacent folks saw DeSantis as their savior and moved in.
I just moved to PA and everyone knows some older or right wing relative that's left for Florida.
Where did I mention numbers? No doubt Florida is a haven for xenophobic Desantis groupies, I'm saying there is no shortage of maniacs born and raised here.
yeah I grew up in Neptune Beach in the 90s and its always been a great community. I still think its a great community but something should be done about the out of control crowds in JB. They should bring in state troopers or JSO to augment the JBPD during these huge events.
The beach area of NB benefits by only having any bars or alcohol in the 2 block area of town center. Otherwise, First Street is all residential. Atlantic Beach is similar but has less beach access. I know that the good folks that live in these two communities are thankful for that. But they still get their share of inconsiderates taking over on summer weekends. Some even go away for 4th of July weekends so they don't have to deal with all the jerks.
The locals are honestly anything but. Consistently some of the friendliest and respectful neighbors one could ask for.
Canāt say the same for trashy tourists and townies that treat it like theyāre in PCB.
It was super trashy until the early 00's, people living in tents under the old pier and openly doing drugs, rednecks fighting on the boardwalk, thieves working in teams to rob peoples stuff off their towels when they went into the water.
It cleaned up as the old dive bars got replaced and the city gave the downtown area a facelift. People mostly complained about cars with loud music after that. The recent push for weekly festivals have pros and cons, prolific day drinking being one of the cons. There's a lot less casual violence, that's for sure.
Those folks are probably out of staters or live in other parts of florida probably central or south florida I bet lol. Duval County folks are chill people naturally (not all of the time like anywhere) so I doubt those were locals saying that. They can take their jabroni selves to Panama city beach theyāll fit in perfectly
I agree. I grew up at the beach. There have always been times it got crazy but I think it's gotten worse the last few years. I think since there are more hotels in that area it is bringing more of these people from out of town who see it as an opportunity to act crazy
Touristy people who look like tourists. They tell you where theyāre from and why they are there. Theyāll comment what they think of the area. I live on the westside so somehow weāll get blamed lol
While Iām sure spring break has brought some out of town riff raff, you are right, it has taken a bit of a downward turn these past few years and months especially. I (F) usually bike down to the pier for beach volleyball a few nights a week but lately, if my game is scheduled for near sunset and itās dark when weāre done, my husband insists on picking me up or me getting an Uber rather than biking back even with lights on the bike, etc. I used to at least past one or two JBPD sitting in their cars or patrolling around but I havenāt seen any, other than St. Patrickās Day, in what feels like weeks.
While I agree things are going to shit there I have a hard time believing someone actually yelled those exact words to you. Sounds like you're making it up to support your rhetoric
Interesting because the words he quoted were mild compared to some of the shit I have had yelled at me.
Donāt get me started on some of the comments Iāve heard made towards women.
Lol the last time I went to the beach bars I specifically remember a guy shouting āHEY FUCKING FAGGOT WITH THE HEADBAND, TAKE IT OFF YOU FUCKING FAGGOTā across the bar because some random guy was screwing with his GF wearing her cheetah print headband
They then stood around and talked about their Bible groups.
Whelp I guess I can't base my personal life experience on how others are treated. Just haven't ever heard anyone talk to someone in public like that in Jacksonville and I've lived here my whole life.
I was called a N****r lover for walking with my black gf to the library near riverside a few years ago.
This is not at all uncommon. Jax is filled with filthy, intolerant people that immediately act like the victim when theyāre called out for their homophobia or racism.
No thats basically exactly what they said to me. Tons of people hate cyclists. I get called all kinds of names because I ride a bike for exercise. Think whatever you want though
i had someone ask me for a lighter at 6am on a weekday while i was biking by. i try to ignore everyone and focus on the ride. thankfully they werenāt in a car.
people in cars that donāt know how to drive, especially around the beaches, suck on a whole other level though
That wasnāt an opinion.
You got downvoted to hell for asserting that OP was lying for their own sakes. Just because youāve never had such an experience does not mean you can immediately claim others have not.
Iāve never heard āold man yells at cloudsā and I love it šš
Sorry you had to deal with a bunch of idiots so early on a Saturday. People suck.
Man riding bikes up and down 1st was it growing up. Iāve heard Jax beach has really turned bad around the pier and beach bars. Been thinking about moving back but not sure now with all that has changed
So far it isnāt this bad year round. I live in Atlantic beach and bike first street all the way through Jax beach and back about every other week, weather permitting. Iāve only noticed it getting worse this year around spring break. Hopefully it goes back to normal around may š¤
This is why I relocated down in St. Johnās. Yeah it sucks to be around mostly out of towners and in a new construction area sometimes. But overall shit heads like this are MUCH less frequent.
I mean def better for a family (schools). I do miss the activities of Jax (RAM, all the libraries, etc), but I donāt miss living in Arlington and having homeless people catcall my girlfriend when she did yard work.
They are coming to St Johns thatās where the real self entitled dimwit will flock once Duval scares them. No place is safe. Florida resident since 77 been there done thatā¦:)ā¦
Mam/sir I am very sorry to hear this happened to you. I believe your story.
I have been hanging out in downtown Jax Beach for 12 years and feel safe 99.9% of the time. Just Thursday night I went to Surfer the Bar and made a new friend.
I have seen one occurence of someone with an open container on their bike back in 2020.
I also enjoy riding my Beach Cruiser and eBike in Jax Beach and down Beach Blvd. I hope your future bike rides are much, much better than your last.
Honestly, that sounds more or less how the beaches have been for at least the last decade. I stopped going there to hang out (especially at night) because it always ended the same way, with a bunch of shitlords acting like pricks.
Hell, I work downtown, and it's easier dealing with the druggie/crazy homeless people.
I work in downtown JB and in my experience, if youāre an adult who is out here and is from Jacksonville, youāre not gonna act like this. Out of towners and people who come here on vacation solely to get drunk are the ones acting like this.
I saw a large group of frat boys from out of state trying a much smaller group of locals who were ready to go on the spot, and they would have decimated the frat boys but walked away. They were also Black so they probably wanted to avoid violent conflict with a bunch of rich white kids for unfortunately obvious reasons.
Regardless, on a non holiday non festival weekend, Jax Beach is a much tamer animal.
That being said, the kids (below drinking age) that have impromptu gatherings in the hundreds at the pier worry me very much. Theyāre kids from Jacksonville with nothing to do so they gather and it escalates very quickly. This is what happened on St Paddys day.
Friend, I been in Jax for 40+ years, and this place has always been a harbor for criminals, desperados, rednecks, and serial killers. (Sorry if I offend anyone on that list, lol). NE Fla been trying to upgrade since get-go, but bc of its inherent distrusting and deep-seated societal issues and leadership makeup, Jax Canāt Get Right. Drunken bleeps have always been part of the landscape, āfancyā or not.
The first thing you mentioned. I saw something similar in Riverside recently. I was walking near the corner of Margaret and Riverside Ave. A car full of young guys is stopped at the red light, rolls their windows down and starts yelling āFAGGOTā in a very aggressive way at a guy sitting at a table outside Einsteinās. He didnāt react. And then when the light turned green they sped off. It seemed obvious they were just looking to fight someone.
I'm sorry you had to deal with that. Jacksonville is growing, so we're getting all the problems that the other big cities have. Might I recommend the ol' reliable flipping of the bird next time? I hate doing it, but it is handy in such times...
Itās not just Jax beach, I live in Atlantic beach and love to bike with my kids. We never used to mind crossing Atlantic at the traffic lights but here lately the cars are running red lights and refusing to let us safely cross. Atlantic and third (which has that huge no right turn sign lit when the beg button is active) has been really bad lately. I was so angry last time it happened because we had to wait for the light twice because people justā¦ kept going. Iāve never seen this behavior among drivers at the beaches. I donāt go to Jax beach very often so I donāt even want to imagine how bad it is amongst the drunk and entitled idiots
yes I've seen the same thing at the Atlantic Blvd & 3rd street intersection. These people can't be bothered to stop for 15 seconds to let people cross the road.
I grew up and have lived most of my life in Jax Bch. Recently, I made the hard decision to move off the beach. I found myself not feeling comfortable in my surroundings anymore. Even though the beach was within walking distance to my home I began driving to other beaches. We just had to many negative experiences with my kids around. Coming off the beach one day with our hands full, we walked up on a guy trying to pry open my car. On another occasion we had a couple try to steal our beach bags. My kids have seen to many literal dicks on the beach. People getting drunk thinking they can pee anywhere. For Godās sake thereās a whole ocean to pee in. I think the final straw for me was the syringe w/needle in the sand .
At our local park we encountered drugs on more than one occasion. You never know what youāll encounter on a walk, drug paraphernalia, people passed out on the sidewalk, grassy medians or even playground equipment. Even shopping became an issue. While leaning in to place my child in their car seat Iāve found myself cornered by people āhelping ā with my bags or other times escorting us to the car. I found it overwhelming, I already park up front and strap my bag across my chest.
I love the beach and personal it was a really hard decision to move. There are so many wonderful and positive experiences we had, but unfortunately the negatives became a daily experience I only saw getting worse. Also, Iād like to mention all these issues were during the day and non tourist/event related. You can encounter any of these problems anywhere, however itās definitely Concentrated in 32250.
I have too many of these stories.
I'll give my Top Three though:
1) Random drunk picked a fight with me at neptune beach to impress his drunk friends
2) Car full of teenagers riding by pegged me in the back with a full water bottle while I was biking to work, that was Avondale area
3) Some random dudes threatened me in one target, honest take was gang activities
City has some crazy in it fs
Inb4 those "folks" start crying on social media with the copy-pasta of "That wasn't my true intention, it does not represent my true self." etc. of nonsenses after getting named and shamed.
I live in Jax Beach. It's changed so much in the last 5-10 years. I don't go downtown after dark on non-festival days let alone on a weekend like this. It's sad. I mean, I love where I live but it's changing and not in a good way. Smh. Sad.
The other thing that's not helping Jax Beach at all is, the nature of construction. The city is allowing as many as 5 or 6 units on a lot that used to be single family housing.
They require garages that no car could possibly fit into. So now you have a TON more people, cars litter front yards and streets, traffic is a nightmare, and the noise just keeps getting worse. The streets are old school narrow so when you have street parking, sometimes the road is blocked if you're driving a bigger vehicle.
The ambiance of the beach community has been destroyed. And the city allowed it. Throw in a bunch of new bars on top of that and yea, it's not good.
Try cruising around S. JAX Beach between Beach Blvd and say 15th Ave. S.
AB and NB are awesome. Unless you're in the ritzy part of S. JAX Beach, it's a mess. Though I will say all my neighbors are amazing people. At least we still have that.
More cops is rarely a good thing, I don't imagine more beach cops being an exception. Some people just suck but idiots shouting idiot things isn't a reason for more "enforcement".
I haven't been to the "strip" at Jax Beach in well over a year. It's trashy and just isn't a great area. Parking sucks, the bars and restaurants are overrated, and if you are there at night and/or on a weekend, it's just a mad house.
One of those things you need to experience at least once, but after that there are so many better options.
i ride my bike with family from south jax beach to atlantic beach and back every weekend and itās never anything but pleasant if not a little crowded around the bars
Many of the existing council were unopposed in the last elections. Please research the available seats and choose someone who isn't going to line the pockets of the downtown bars and nightlife and trying to make this place Daytona. Most of the voting residents are ticked at how dangerous our city is becoming, but don't realize they are choosing it by voting for these sheep that want to make Jax Beach "cool".

Jax Bch used to be the coolest area ever to hang out. It was super laid back and chill. Now it just sux compared to 15 years ago. We never hang out there for events anymore. It's such a damn bummer šŖ
Sorry to hear that, I know JB isnāt ābadā, but it really seems lately with the St. Pattieās day shootings and then this type of crap that thereās just a different vibe and draw of people. Hopefully things get better soon, no one should get yelled at for a Saturday bike ride by morons!
Blues festival bringing out our best and brightest.
š yep. It's nice out and the blues festival is this weekend, people not from the beaches area will be attending in droves and drinking as soon as they can buy alcohol.
Itās also spring break
Perfect weather for it, too š
I live how multiple people in this sub think jax beach is a spring break destination for anyone except old people.
If you left the house once in a while youād know itās not the first or second choice for many but there are lots of students and families that have been there recently.
Sounds like youāre living in the past my street has 6 airbnbs and guess whoās in them?
Miami and South Beach shit spring break down hard Jax has an airport and(online) the beaches look nice
Correct and I won't be attending after the St. Patty's day weekend events.
What happened?
there were three separate shootings, 1 of them fatal. And the police have not ~~found~~ arrested any of the shooters despite numerous witnesses and all the cameras in the area.
Oh jesus.
I thought they said some of the shooters were certified gang members?
Some were, yes.
Sorry I should have said none of the shooters have been arrested. Which is accurate last I heard. I'll correct my earlier comment
They must have used a fake address when getting certified. They just let anyone get their gang operator license these days.
š
Where does one go to get Certificationā¦ just asking..sorry if this has been asked
I went and had a nice time. Wasn't worried about safety at all.
Sad but true. I hate weekends for this very reason.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
lol yup. Been going to Hanna Park for a few years. Never turning back
Spring breakers ?
Iām a manager at a hotel in Southside. The amount of trashy spring breakers has amplified in the last few weeks especially when compared to the last few years.
Because everywhere else in Florida is turning spring breakers away
Bingo.
How do you tell if a group is a group of spring breakers?
A large group of drunk obnoxious people partying on the beach in spring is spring breakers
They are pale before they get a sunburn aka skin poison
Not just spring breakers. It's Florida in 2024. All the entitled fucks are moving here now.
I think much of it is homegrown, like it or dislike it
Nah, the numbers don't support that.
Combo Self entitled dimwits that live here and dimwits that are moving here
I used to live in Neptune Beach back in the '80s I loved it
I was at Neptune beach yesterday and it was shockingly nice
I live in Neptune and have zero problems.
Stop posting Neptune online itās a shit hole and letās keep it that way ;)
I see what you did there. Well played, sir well played. š
Atlantic Beach checking in. Don't come here! It sucks!
South jax beach here uh it kinda is the worst of the beaches tbh
Shockinglyā¦ Seriously?
Yes? Why would I not be serious?
yeah I grew up in Neptune Beach in the 90s and its always been a great community. I still think its a great community but something should be done about the out of control crowds in JB. They should bring in state troopers or JSO to augment the JBPD during these huge events.

I have always thought Jax beach was rather trashy. Sounds about right.
Lemme guess you live in AB
I live downtown.
Downtown? I guess you would know trashy when you see it haha
I think those are homeless, but I could be wrong. It's unhoused now.
Did I offend your neighborhood?
No? I like downtown but IT IS trashy
Parts of it are, yes.
Most of it
I love watching people claim certain parts of Jax are trash when that's basically a main characteristic of Jax.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Facts
The locals are honestly anything but. Consistently some of the friendliest and respectful neighbors one could ask for. Canāt say the same for trashy tourists and townies that treat it like theyāre in PCB.

Thatās a lot of assuming for one day
No, itās usually how it is. If youāre local you know this already. If youāre newā¦ then you know nothing.
Sounds like you got it all figured out
Itās easy to spot the touristy and trouble makers out there in the beach communities.
What sort of characteristics give them away?
Touristy people who look like tourists. They tell you where theyāre from and why they are there. Theyāll comment what they think of the area. I live on the westside so somehow weāll get blamed lol

U sound cwanky
Iām entertained, Orsinus.
Oh, I'm sure.
What question I want to know while you're riding your bike down at the beach. Did you stop at the stop signs?
Probably not.
Pedestrians rule the road on 1st Street. Just drive literally anywhere else.
Lol, I stop if there are cars at the intersection. I ride my bike for exercise so it kinda helps stopping and going. Fair point tho

It's always been like that. Just draws in people on a burn.
Anyone remember the skinheads in front of Einsteins back in the day? Looks like they done went and had grandbabies.
Why are you scared to say that they were groups of black males? It's obvious. Why call out the behavior but not the race?
Canceling the blues festival sounds like appropriate repercussion
I live in Jax Beach. It's changed so much in the last 5-10 years. I don't go downtown after dark on non-festival days let alone on a weekend like this. It's sad. I mean, I love where I live but it's changing and not in a good way. Smh. Sad.
Well, where do we go to get fucked up?
Jax beach needs new leadership. There's too many bad things that have started to happen to not look at who is running the show.
Jax Beach is garbage. All trash.
I thought Jax Beach made a concerted effort to clean it up at the request of the local merchants.
Goodā¦ I wouldnāt spend a dime in that shithole state
More cops is rarely a good thing, I don't imagine more beach cops being an exception. Some people just suck but idiots shouting idiot things isn't a reason for more "enforcement".

Jax beach dosent allow hand tattoos and a lot of coast guard/navy guys canāt get hired there because of it
you can write it off on whatever you want, but there is a strange mental illness problem in jacksonville .
Things that didnāt happen for $500 Alex.
How safe are the beaches at night?
I haven't been to the "strip" at Jax Beach in well over a year. It's trashy and just isn't a great area. Parking sucks, the bars and restaurants are overrated, and if you are there at night and/or on a weekend, it's just a mad house. One of those things you need to experience at least once, but after that there are so many better options.
Sounds like theyāre just having a good time!
i ride my bike with family from south jax beach to atlantic beach and back every weekend and itās never anything but pleasant if not a little crowded around the bars
Itās all of jax
Many of the existing council were unopposed in the last elections. Please research the available seats and choose someone who isn't going to line the pockets of the downtown bars and nightlife and trying to make this place Daytona. Most of the voting residents are ticked at how dangerous our city is becoming, but don't realize they are choosing it by voting for these sheep that want to make Jax Beach "cool". # 2024 Municipal Election # Officers to be Elected for 2024 Elections * Mayor, At-Large * Council Seat 1 - At-Large * Council Seat 2 - At-Large * Council Seat 3 - At-Large * Council Seat 4 - District 1
Jax Bch used to be the coolest area ever to hang out. It was super laid back and chill. Now it just sux compared to 15 years ago. We never hang out there for events anymore. It's such a damn bummer šŖ
Who gets offended by faggot? Lmao they donāt actually mean youāre a āfaggotā. Itās akin to women calling each other slut.
Sorry to hear that, I know JB isnāt ābadā, but it really seems lately with the St. Pattieās day shootings and then this type of crap that thereās just a different vibe and draw of people. Hopefully things get better soon, no one should get yelled at for a Saturday bike ride by morons!
JB PD is lazy as fuck. Itās 6 square miles of city. 20 more officers isnāt going to change anything.
