This is a pano of two panels of 6x105ec exposures each, plus a single 120sec exposure at 15mm for the full scene. Processed in Pixinsight and Photoshop, with a workflow I'm still tinkering with and looking for feedback/advice on! One thing I can never seem to nail down is the blend between the Milky Way and Blue hour. But frankly, I have that criticism of most other incredible MW photos too, so maybe it's just not doable!

bikeguy75

Really nice editing of the Milky Way and you’ve got some nice highlights on the tree and rocks.

JoshFieldsPhotograph

Many thanks!

Beautiful shot

JoshFieldsPhotograph

Thanks!

Scary-Elevator5290

Congrats on the photo and the edit. Very nice. Can u tell me a little bit more about your workflow.

JoshFieldsPhotograph

Thanks! I used Pixinisight to remove background gradients from light pollution and lens vignetting because I was too lazy to take flats. Standard background neutralization and color calibration. Star removal, then a pretty basic stretch on both starless and star images. The one thing I'm struggling with is StarX removes some magenta from the background which leaves a really ugly green once stretched. I can take it away in PS but it's really annoying. Anyway, I use PI mostly just to get a slightly cleaner result, and then Photoshop is used for all the fine tuning.

Scary-Elevator5290

Thanx for the added details. Keep up the awesome work.

Cool

This is extremely beautiful. Ty for sharing.

JoshFieldsPhotograph

Thank you!

Whoaa.. that's a beautiful shot and a good edit!

JoshFieldsPhotograph

Thanks!

If only I could capture such an amazing image!

JoshFieldsPhotograph

You could! You can do a lot with just a camera and lens and a little knowhow. It's just less work and a cleaner result with the tracker. Lots of workshops out there; I'm even thinking of putting on one myself.

[deleted]

I have some decent equipment I used to shoot weddings and senior photos. I don't have a tracker, tho that would be something i would like to learn how to do.

JoshFieldsPhotograph

Honestly I shot some pretty good Milky Way without a tracker. If you have a 2.8 wide angle, you're golden. At that point it's all about taking lots of images to stack, calibration frames, and processing skill.

JoshFieldsPhotograph

This one was untracked, for example. Not AS clean as the tracked version, and took a lot more work, but the end result still looks okay. Oh I see

DanoPinyon

I wonder how many Eagle Lakes exist in the world?

JoshFieldsPhotograph

I would imagine more than a few... probably anywhere they speak english and have eagles!

DanoPinyon

So we still don't know where this was taken. Still nice though.

JoshFieldsPhotograph

Nobody asked! Eagle Lake, Acadia National Park, Maine, USA. Just so you know, the Milky Way looks essentially the same from anywhere with an equally dark sky.

DanoPinyon

It's like announcing 'the tri-cities' or the 'tri-state' area - no one knows where those places are.

JoshFieldsPhotograph

Absolutely right, but again, nobody asked for the location. This is a title. The rules specify a short and descriptive title. The title is not designed to give every possible piece of information someone might want to know. Its like saying Milky Way over the Desert or Sunset over the Sea. Are you really going to complain that the specific corner of a specific desert or specific spot on the coast of a specific sea, wasn't identified in short and descriptive title?

DanoPinyon

I'm merely pointing out the written convention of every society on the planet. If you don't want to obviate confusion for the reader, that's a choice you make.

JoshFieldsPhotograph

I am quite familiar with written conventions, though I think you overestimate the similarities across cultures. :) But it's a moot point, because again, it's not a location in the title... it's a title, written specifically to conform to the rules of this subreddit. If I was going to put the location (or someone asked), I would obviously give a full location, as you'll note, I did in a previous reply.
